151. How can I repay?
By telling which one I will praise you
By thinking which one I will glorify you?
Not knowing about me I was at the lowest level
Without having dharma I collapsed
My thinking was very mean
Not knowing the way to emancipation I was bewildered
I never afraid to commit sin
I never hesitate to be blamed
There was no truth in the life which I lived
Oh charitable one, I never sought you!
How much I stumbled in my mind
How much struggles I faced in my actions
There was no connection between by deeds and words
Discouragement is the only thing I experienced in life
Yet you never abandoned me
You never rejected even though I never knew you
You alone voluntarily came and redeemed me
You protected me every day!
How am I going to repay this?
What can I pay back for this debt
Even if I give myself, will it be equal to that (what you have done?)
Which can be compared to that unparalleled love?
Yet I know to do one thing?
And I took courage to do it
In the rest of this life in which I will live
I gave myself for you to live within me!

According to Hindu worldview everyone one is born with some debt towards others. And no one can escape from repaying it. Carrying the family legacy through progeny is the payment of the debt to the parents and also to the ancestors. Also doing funeral rites and annual rites (antiyeshti and sraddha and tarpana) is part of repaying the debt of ancestors. Not bringing shame to the family is part of that debt. However when it comes to repaying the debt to Gods, worshiping them and pleasing them are considered the most important way of paying debt to gods (deva yajna). However in the Muktiveda, no such concept of repaying any debt to the Lord for what He has done is mentioned. For me ‘No more I but Muktinath who lives in me’ could be the only way that we can repay our debt to Him. As a Hindu bhakta of the Lord, not throwing away certain concepts which are not explicitly mentioned in Muktiveda, I can still implement them by careful reading and understanding the Word of God. Of course we can never pay our debt to the Lord. I often said in my sat-sangs that by making sandals by our skin we can never repay the debt to our mother for the pain that she underwent to beget us. In the same way we too cannot repay our debt to the Lord by serving in any way. But to think in a humorous way, at least by allowing Him to live in us we can pay some interest to the debt.

Sitting in the outside veranda when I was making hot water to take a bath, I was thinking deeply about God. That time I wrote this song.
152 A transcending stage
Is there any time to think about you?
Which is the time to think about your Grace?
When I offered myself to you
What is the need for me to pray to you?
(Why should I ask anything in prayer?)
Did you ever ask me before redeeming me?
Did you ever ask me before you gave yourself?
Even though I lived without knowing you
You came seeking after me because of your love!
There was no eagerness to know God
I don’t have sharp intellect to articulate
There was no enthusiasm to know you deeply
Yet you lord over me yourself!
Why should I pray by uttering (in many) words?
What is there to think through?
When I reached a stage transcending
Words and thoughts?

This is a deeply philosophical one. When a bhakta is deeply drowned in the Lord there is no need for words, feelings, emotions, understanding, meditation, etc. etc. either to experience or express it. ‘Going beyond’ of everything—even beyond oneself in which she will stand still. Such experience can remain, maybe for a fraction of a few seconds or could prolong for a few minutes and more. But when one comes out of it, then she won’t be in a position even to understand or express it. It is like going to a coma stage and coming back. But when one comes back from coma one may not realize that she was in a coma stage. There is a place for such an experience in our sadhana too—but it will suddenly dawn to us—when we are not even prepared for that. But one who constantly has the experience of ‘we are living, moving and our being is in Him’, that stillness, transcending everything will happen. Every bhakta is qualified for it and no special grace or special sadhana or call is required for it. But only a deep longing for it is a prerequisite to prepare oneself to receive it.

153. No other refuge
I should come seeking your feet
That should give joy within me
Oh un-parallel Master
I should bow at your feet
Morning, afternoon and evening
When I run after the feet of the Lord
He will never abandon me even for a moment
He will protect me as the eyelids (protecting the eyes)
Which one He didn’t bestow to me?
He never abandoned me
Is there any other refuge other than Him?
I don’t require any other thing.
13-02-2013 2.45, pm. Gurukulam.
As I said before, I don’t keep any personal discipline for prayer. Whenever I feel, I will pray. Several times, (because of my life as a single person and the solitude at the ashram) I will simply sit and deeply think about the Lord or on Muktiveda or any other issue, view, topic and that will become a kind of prayer for me. On this day in the afternoon after reading some book, when I gave a short break and closed my eyes to remain quiet to enjoy the peace around you, I wrote this song.
On 15-02-2013 11.30, before going to bed, I put on the mosquito net. That time, thinking about my past life I said in Tamil (’என்னமோ ஒரு வாழ்க்கை வாழ்ந்தேன்’) what kind of life I lived came automatically from my mouth. Then taking a paper I wrote this song within 15 minutes.
154. Life
What kind of life I lived
How many times I went lower in it
I acted in a childish way
Confused in my mind I almost collapsed
My life went as I wished
Keeping words and deeds apart
Without having any idea or aim
I lived as my heart desired
I struggled both in my heart and mind
I contested with others also
Yet I never get victory in one thing
I never found peace
I calculated as it is
All the mistakes that I have done
I shrink within myself thinking them
As they went beyond all calculations
One day I came to you by running
I sought you by crying ‘redeem me’
Not thinking about my mistakes
You saved me by accepting me (as I am)
By taking my mistakes you become a sinner
You become a sacrifice to remove my sin
By the blood which you shed you redeemed me
You paid the cost for that on the Cross!
By redeeming me you gave a life to me
To know your greatness you gave me a heart
You gave your grace to live as your bhakta
Therefore I live again
15-02-2013. Gurukulam, 11.45 pm
‘Born again’ is not some experience, concept or any other thing but a new position/status in the Lord. Those who never received that position cannot understand it. It is beyond human comprehension. We cannot even communicate. It cannot even be transmitted. It is to be lived individually. However we insist on the community aspect of our bhakti, when it comes to this position, we have to live it out individually.

155. Help me
Help me to keep peace
Help me to have love
Help me to have (your) grace
Help me to remove darkness
Help me to come to your feet
Help me to have compassion in my heart
Help me to have bhakti
Help me to bow at your feet
Help me to enhance my thought
Help me to forget myself
Help me to worship you
Help me to walk after you
Help me to live as a servant
Help me to serve others
Help me to uplift you
Help me to sing your praise.
22-02-2013. Gurukulam, 2.15. p.m. When we seek help from others, we have to do our part and others can co-operate and do their best. When it comes to seeking any help from God, He is not going to do only His best but will involve totally, by preparing us and arranging help through others. And His help will be holistic and not limited to the immediate context but bring change in us to make progress. Others help is like doing first aid and God’s help is doing treatment for permanent cure
