Though there are thousands struggles outside

No one is there without worries

Anyhow we have to live in this world
Need to overcome it by fighting
There are many to support us
They will do their best by helping us
But even after that if I am defeated
No one is responsible for that
This struggle will never come to an end
I cannot overcome me
You should not hesitate to help me
That one thing is not acceptable to me
‘All who suffer by carrying the burden?

Lost battle
Though the final war is won, there will always be lost battles in life. And most of us have lost several battles in life—and live with the hope of winning the final War along with the Lord. Whether others have lost battles or not, I am the one who has many lost battles in my life. So when I manage some big challenges easily, small things often irritate me and I lose my battle that time. Then when I analyzed the defeat, I realized that others are not the reason for that but I am responsible for that lost battle. So this morning when I was going to the dhyana mandapam for my prayer and meditation while climbing the steps thinking on this subject then one word came to my mind was ‘என்னை சரிசெய்ய என்ன செய்வேன்—what shall I do to correct me. And after I went to dhyana mandapam, I continued to meditate about it and as the inspiration came, I wrote this song as my prayer.
My translation of the song may not communicate my thoughts and I know many don’t even read the translation but only the short comments. I complain to the Lord as He is able to carry the burden of the whole world, why He hesitates to carry my burden. And though I went to unload my burden, I don’t have the strength (or desire) to unload it. So either He has to unload by force or has to carry the load along with me. But He is already doing that and not knowing that I am sitting on His shoulder with my burden I am lamenting as if I am still carrying my burden. This being the scenario, nobody can help me.

Shall I remain not seeking your divine feet?
Shall I remain not coming to your presence?
Shall I not remain not sharing my complaints?
Can I let you go if you don’t listen to me?
You are the one who said ‘ask I will give’
You are the one who said ‘if you search you will find’!
As you said ‘I will open if you knock’
Can I let you go hereafter (if you don’t do these things)?
I have done at my best
I asked others as much as possible
Yet when the work went beyond my hand
Where else can I go without coming unto you?
Before beginning the work, I came to you
I requested you to help me
But for some reason you delayed
You refused to give the reason for that
If you do like this, what can I do?

Kunti says to Krishna that it is good that she suffered as it helped her to come close to Him. Psalmist says that it is good that he suffered as it helped him to learn the dharma of God. (Ps. 119:71). Meerabai sang, ‘Rana (king) sent the poison, but Meera drank it with a smile’. (Vishakka pyaala Rana beja; Meera pibatu haansi re). Though God disciplines us, yet He never allows that to become mere legalism in his mind but like a loving parent he does it.

What kind of debt you owe me

A famous Tamil verb is, ‘loan will spoil the love’. But we incur debt to many which cannot be paid back by any of our act. Though I say that the Lord died because of His debt of creating me, yet I cannot pay back my debt to Him and I am unwilling to pay it back as I want to remain His permanent slave. According to Hindu worldview everyone born with a debt to his ancestors, family, god, and society. By following his dharma he can pay it back. But there are some debts which cannot be paid back through any means—like that we owe to our parents, particularly to our mothers. The same is the case with a bhakta. I like the concept found in the Purva Veda that a slave unwilling to go back can remain a permanent slave to a household. A bhakta does the same to the Lord.

என்னால் முயன்றதை செய்து பார்த்தேன்
இயன்றவரை பிறரிடம் கேட்டுப் பார்த்தேன்
ஆயினும் காரியம் கை மீறியதால்
உன்னிடம் வராமல் எங்கு செல்வேன்
காரியம் தொடங்குமுன் உன்னிடம் வந்தேனே
’கைக்கொடுப்பாய்’ என்று வேண்டி நின்றேனே
ஆயினும் ஏனோ நீ தாமதித்தாய்
அதற்குக் காரணம் கூறவும் மறுத்தாய்
இவ்விதம் நீ செய்தால் நான் என்ன செய்வேன்
வேறெங்கு சென்று முறையீடு செய்வேன்
உன் சித்தம் அறியக் காத்திருப்பேன் நாளும்
இதுவன்றி வேறென்ன செய்வது நானும்

207. Will I remain not seeking?
Shall I remain not seeking your divine feet?
Shall I remain not coming to your presence?
Shall I not remain not sharing my complaints?
Can I let you go if you don’t listen to me?
You are the one who said ‘ask I will give’
You are the one who said ‘if you search you will find’!
As you said ‘I will open if you knock’
Can I let you go hereafter (if you don’t do these things)?
I have done at my best
I asked others as much as possible
Yet when the work went beyond my hand
Where else can I go without coming unto you?
Before beginning the work, I came to you
I requested you to help me
But for some reason you delayed
You refused to give the reason for that
If you do like this, what can I do?
To whom shall I go and share my complaints?
I will wait to know your will
Other than this, what can I do?

As there are no unanswered prayers, waiting upon the Lord for His time and means is the only option left with us, when things don’t move as we expected through our prayers.

208 Forsake confusion
Is your way my way?
Is your thought my thought?
Is your deed my deed?
Don’t you know this?
You said that
‘not you but I live
In you permanently’
But now you forgot it?
Until my will
Accomplished in your life
I will test you
As I have decided
Yet I won’t
Abandon you to be alone
I will come with you
Every day
Let you realize this, that
In order to correct you
I allowed some trials
In your life
Undisciplined son
Will become a rowdy
Without trial
Bhakti also will become husk
Is your sorrow my pleasure?
If you fall, my glory?
Is your pain my joy?
Don’t you know this?
Nothing will separate
You and me
Which will overcome you?
When I come with you?
You are the apple of my eye
You are the property in my hand
You are my only bhakta
You become my own
Therefore don’t be disturbed
Don’t lament unnecessarily
I will be with you till the end

Kunti says to Krishna that it is good that she suffered as it helped her to come close to Him. Psalmist says that it is good that he suffered as it helped him to learn the dharma of God. (Ps. 119:71). Meerabai sang, ‘Rana (king) sent the poison, but Meera drank it with a smile’. (Vishakka pyaala Rana beja; Meera pibatu haansi re). Though God disciplines us, yet He never allows that to become mere legalism in his mind but like a loving parent he does it.

இரக்கம் ஒன்றே உனது குணமே
கருணை ஒன்றே உனது வடிவே
தாழ்மை ஒன்றே உனது செயலே
பொறுமை ஒன்றே உனது இயல்பே
அன்பு மட்டும் உனது வழியே
அருள மட்டும் அறிந்தாய் நீயே
உருக்கம் மட்டும் கொண்டாய் நீயே
உன்னை அளித்தாய் எனக்காய் நீயே
கனிவு கொண்டு காத்து வந்தாய்
காதல் கொண்டு சேர வந்தாய்
கண்ணின் இமைபோல் காத்து வந்தாய்
கைவிடாது என்னை ஆதரித்தாய்
என்ன கடனும் நீ பட்டாயோ
என்னை படைத்து அதை பெற்றாயோ
உன் கடன் தீர்க்க உயிரைத் தந்து

BT Song 209. I am in debt
Mercy only is your nature
Compassion alone is your form
Humility is your action
Patient is your character
Love alone your path
You know only to bestow grace
You have only a kind heart
You gave yourself to me
With kindness you protected me
With love you came to unite with me
You protected me as the apple of your eye
You supported not giving up me
What kind of debt you owe me
By creating me did you incurred it
In order to pay back your debt
you gave your life to redeem me
This truth I understood
I also received your grace
Yet my debt still remains
How I am going to pay it back?
I received a debt which cannot be paid back
I agreed to pay it back
But I hesitate to return it by thinking that
if I pay it back your debt, our relationship will be terminated
Could your debt be cleared (by me?)
Will that account come to an end if I pay back?
Once everything belongs to you
By giving which I will pay it back
Till the end I won’t pay it back
I will never close it by giving anything
Unwilling to return your debt
I will live as your slave forever

A famous Tamil verb is, ‘loan will spoil the love’. But we incur debt to many which cannot be paid back by any of our act. Though I say that the Lord died because of His debt of creating me, yet I cannot pay back my debt to Him and I am unwilling to pay it back as I want to remain His permanent slave. According to Hindu worldview everyone born with a debt to his ancestors, family, god, and society. By following his dharma he can pay it back. But there are some debts which cannot be paid back through any means—like that we owe to our parents, particularly to our mothers. The same is the case with a bhakta. I like the concept found in the Purva Veda that a slave unwilling to go back can remain a permanent slave to a household. A bhakta does the same to the Lord.

எத்தனை முறை மறந்தேனே
நீயே என் தாபரம் இதை
பலமுறை எண்ண மறந்தேனே

என இனி வாழ்வதில்லை
என்றுனக்கு நான்தந்த
வாக்கையும் மறந்தேனே
வந்திடுவேன் உந்தன்னடி
வேண்டுவேன் உன் எண்ணப்படி

210. How many times I forgot
You are my support
How many times I forgot this
You are my refuge
I forget to think about this
I forgot the promise
Which I gave to you that
I won’t live anymore
Both in my thought and desire
I used to come to your feet
I will pray as per your will
But in all my deeds
I completely forgot you.
‘You fulfill your will
You accomplish your desire’
Though I said like this
Somehow, I forgot it
Just for the name sake
I played several roles
Once the drama ended
I realized my true nature
Yet where can I go
Where I will find support
Without you I don’t have any refuge
That I know very well
I don’t need to tell it to you
As I know well about that
Therefore as usual
Become my support
22-10-2013, 8.15 am. In this poem I expressed my desire to do as per the will of God but doing things as per my wish. We often say that ‘we kneel down to know the will of God and we rise up to do it’. But in my life, several times I have done the opposite and try to justify it.
