We had our year end bhaktas sammelan at Chakravarthy’s house in Bangalore. When a serious discussion was going on based on Ephesians, one thought struck me. While the discussion was going on, I began to write the first few lines and later completed the entire song. One profound truth with our Lord is that He won only by losing Himself and not fighting back. Similarly He never wrestles with us to win for Him. That He does by losing Himself. This unique concept is that only by losing we can gain. We gain the Lord by losing ourselves and He gains us by losing Himself. In real life one person’s loss is another person’s gain. But in our bhakti the loss of both the Lord and ours is victory for everyone. When it comes to the Lord, rationalistic logic fails.

There is no incomplete, imperfect, half-done work on the part of God. But when it comes to my growth in Him, more than me He has to work hard. My hope is that as He never left any work undone, He will accomplish the work which He began with me too.

Another song based on one Tamil son in Carnatic music, in which the poet laments to Murugan why he didn’t come to him even after he sings with so many songs. He complains about his poverty as other deities didn’t notice his condition. But changing the theme I wrote this song is why He came to redeem me even though I do not deserve to be saved.

This song is very difficult to translate in English. This is based on one film song wrote by Kannadasan. He is my favorite poet. He was a ‘varakavi’, which means he can write any poem on the spot once a scene is explained to him. In this song he played a pun on the word ‘kaai’ with has various meaning like ‘unripe fruit, direction, anger’ etc. Of course Kannadasan was not the first poet to write such songs. We can find several such songs by various poets in Tamil poetic literature, where a single letter or word is used to write a poem. Let me give one example by Kalamegam@:

In this song the lady asks the bee as it goes after flower after flower let it tell which one is the sweetest one. When Kannan comes to the ashram, several times we discussed about such beautiful songs. So this morning when I sat for my meditation, I too attempted to write one such song and the result is this one. In my song also I keep the word ‘kaai’ almost in every word. I highlighted those words in Tamil.
In this song I said that I want to sing for all the benefits that I received from the Lord as well for what He has done for us; also requesting Him to come and dwell in my heart for His glory.
