BT Song 236
As there was enough light, after writing this song, I continued to keep my silence. After nearly 45 minutes, I said, ‘as you come and talk with me in silence, I feel some kind of bliss within me’. Then inspired by that thought, I put the light and took the paper and within five minutes wrote the following song (236)

Song 236 When you talk silently
When you come and talk silently with me
I feel some kind of bliss in my body
When I seek you in solitude
As you hug me, I rejoice in my spirit
I cannot understand what you have done to me
You are doing something which I cannot understand
How can I explain this experience of mine?
How can I tell it to others?
Is this time for you to talk and for me to listen?
Is it proper to pass the time like this?
As you touched me silently I lost my consciousness
Falling on you I completely forgot about myself
Whatever you tell nothing will go inside me
None of your words will enter in my ears
I cannot say beyond this
It is good for us to keep quiet
There is no greater langue than silence
Nothing is equal to it on this world
No word is required to experience the relationship with you
Once I realized this, nothing will come between us
I just told what I know
Whatever you do I will give my consent to it
Nothing is there which you don’t know about me
I will never disobey your will
You have your relationship with me as you like
As I belong to you nothing will stop it
I cannot say beyond this
There is no need for me to tell this even to you

This is a kind of romantic song in which a girl completely surrenders herself to her lover to have any kind of relationship with her. But this ‘kanta/rati’ (romantic) bhava cannot be reflected in English translation. In Tamil one can easily find it in this song. Particularly the last two stanzas talk explicitly about his right to have any kind of relationship with her. In the past I never dared to write this kind of song, because of the fear of being misunderstood. But now I have no such fear and I express my feelings, emotions, experience and thoughts as they come in my life.

BT Song 237

After this (writing song 236) I had a quick 15 minutes dinner break, as I don’t want to waste my time on that. As I brought enough food, I quickly finished my dinner and did not even wash the vessels. I eagerly returned back to the living room again to sit in the darkness to be alone with the Lord. Then I began to pray for others. In between I began to reflect on my life in the past where several times I hurt and humiliated the Lord throughout my life. Suddenly I felt very ashamed and thought about the Grace of God which sought after me repeatedly in spite of my failures, not leading a successful life, as I continue to hurt the Lord. Then I broke the silence and said this in Tamil, ‘What more can you do’? Then inspired by that one sentence I wrote this song within ten minutes by putting the light:
BT Song 237. What more can you do?
What more can you do for me?
For whom have you done like this?
You protected me as the apple of the eyes
And walked with me not leaving even for a moment
I didn’t understand what sin is
I lived keeping sin as my principle
Because of your mercy you came after me
You owned as your own by redeeming me
Yet I backslide several times even after you redeemed me
I lived pretending as if I am your bhakta
There was no real change within me
I never followed you in truth
Yet you never forsake me
You never violated your ‘dharma’
Even if I ever called you only once
You forgave my sins several times and tolerated my mistakes
Seeing your nobleness of protecting and
Tolerating those who do error@
I struck down with much disturbance on seeing your ‘dharma’
I cried unto you to forgive me (once again)
As you saw me returning back unto you
You ran towards me and hugged me
With much humiliation when I fell down at your feet
You took me and hugged me on your shoulder
Not one time and two times
I run away from you thousands of times
Yet you remained steadfast in your promise
And never forsake me
What more can you do for me
How many times you will accept me (back)
You know that my nature is not going to change
But as your ‘dharma’ will never change, save me once again.

@When I wrote this line, I remembered the line from Tirumandiram by Tirumular:
God shows His grace even to them who do not want receive it.—Tirumandiram, song 22, line 4. A. Manikkam, Tirumandiram, commentary with the text, Vardaman Publishers, Chennai (2001) Six impression, 2003, Vol. 1, p. 20
I wrote similar songs in the past. Ever since I became the bhakta of the Lord, this feeling constantly is chasing me. Some time I found the God of the Purvaveda (OT) is easy to live with. Follow the Ten Commandments and you are a righteous person. Whereas the God of the Uttaraveda is very difficult to live with. Each time He raises the bar, whereas I change the goal post. I know that till the end of my life I cannot escape from this reality in my pilgrimage. This is a unique aspect for me in my bhakti with Bhagavan Mukti Nath.
25-5-14
I switched off the light and stopped even my prayer but began to immerse myself in the silence. I don’t know how much time went by as I cannot see the watch. But again I felt some kind of bliss within me. Then I began to smile and thought how could I express this experience in words? Suddenly the first line of the song came to mind. Then I put the light and wrote this song:
BT Song 238

238. You provoked me
Silently you came and touched my heart
Gently laughing you provoked me
By whispering something you induced me
When I was longing for you with much passion, suddenly you disappeared
What kind of drama is this and what do you think?
How long will this crooked drama of yours go?
You think I will never make it public as I don’t want others to talk ill of you
But that is not the real reason for it
I know the reason for your inner thought
You too know my anger@ towards you
None will know the love between us
Who can understand this love that we have for each other?
I came and mingled with you without others knowledge
And sought you in solitude without eating or drinking
I spent much time talking with you deep from my heart
I was longing again to have the same experience
That is why you asked me to come again ‘ALONE’
You asked me to receive that bliss again
Without knowing this when I was much disturbed
You came and touched me silently
Now I understood your drama
I came unto you with joy within me
To remove my anger you laughed gently
You hugged me so that I can have that pleasure
I mingled with you forgetting myself
I surrendered unto your feet by renouncing this world
I too realized that you too longed like me
Therefore there won’t be any more separation.
23-5-14 11.15 p.m.
This is again a song with ‘rati/kanta’ bhava (romantic feeling). The word ‘Oodal’ is not anger@ exactly. I don’t know what is the word for it in English (indignant sulking?). It is a kind of false anger both the girl and lover have towards each other. Similarly the word ‘mella nahaitu’ is not ‘laughing gently’. It is a kind of teasing laugh to provoke each other to increase their anger and make them long for each other. Don’t ask whether I have this experience in real life. Sorry to disappoint you. I have never fallen in love with any girl in my life. There was no time for that and that kind of thought never came in my life as I was living in a different kind of world within me. Yes like others I too have the need of the body but it is different from really falling in love with the opposite sex. This is not the place for me to discuss this further here. In one of my dialogues with Chaturvedi Badrinath after reading his book (Chaturvedi Badrinath, The Mahabharata: An Inquiry in the human condition, New Delhi, Orient Longman, 2007.) I shared a bit about it. This may be soon posted in my blog. But I have read enough Tamil literature and seen a few movies about this ‘oodal’. So I wrote this song expressing the same kind of ‘oodal’ and ‘gentle laugh’ in this song. After writing this song I began to laugh loudly thinking what others will think about such a song coming from a sannyasi? But this kind of song is quite common in Hindu bhakti literature. Even Jayadeva’s Gita Govindam is more erotic than a mere romantic one. In India, in bhakti tradition the relationship with the Lord is celebrated in all kinds of human feelings and emotions. Then with that happy mood I retired to bed. But I don’t know when I actually slept. As there was pin drop silence and complete darkness around me without any street light, I enjoyed that silence very much. Almost from evening 5.30 and till 12.00 midnight I sat with a short break of 15 minutes for dinner and put on the light only to write the songs, rest of the time I sat silently—meditation, praying, and enjoying my time alone with the Lord.
I don’t know how many of you have this experience to remain silently doing nothing and to be alone with the Lord surrounded by nature. Sannyasis have that privilege. Of course I won’t say that this is the best sadhana, but this could be one among other sadhanas. And if you have that opportunity to do it, you will have a different experience. That I can assure.

BT Song 239

BT Song 239. Do I lack anything?
Not thinking any other thing
Not seeking any other things
Seeking only your feet
I came unto you
Not seeing my nature (guan)
Not thinking about my dharma
Seeking after me
You came unto me
Yet many times
Forgetting them all
By making thousands of complaints
I came at your feet
Not seeing my unstable heart
Taking me with concern
Teaching me with patience
You protected me by your teaching
My nature won’t change
My dharma won’t disappear
If you know this
Save me each day
Do I need to tell you?
Am I acting less?
Is it possible for me?
To hide from you
Is there is a mother
Who does not know the needs of her baby?
Once I became your child
Do I lack anything?
24-5-14, 7.30 a.m. Gurukulam
As I had to leave the ashram that day, after staying one evening in solitude, I went for my early morning walk. That time I said, ‘my dharma to serve my mother won’t go. I am bound and committed to it. Therefore I am not going to ask anything from you as my nature and dharma won’t change.’ That time I wrote this song.
BT Song 240

BT Song 240 let me leave (Leave me alone)
Sitting at your feet
To be with you
Only to think about you
Rejoicing in you
Forgetting myself
Losing my own
When I am going to live
I am longing for this
With un-stable heart
Disturbed each day
Time is fleeing
With various thoughts
Unnecessary thoughts
Give pain
Though I try to escape from them
They chase me again
It is enough let me leave
Where else is other refuge
Can you understand this?
When you are going to save me
This is not correct
To test me like this
I don’t have energy within me
Do you understand this?
(Better) you know this
You take pity on this mean one
To worship you with pure heart
Give your grace.
31-5-2014, Chennai 11.45 am.
Alter travelled the whole night from Hosur when I reached Rama’s house at Chennai, I became extremely tired. They too just returned back from the USA, after their family holiday and they were too busy cleaning the entire house. I became dead tired as I travelled by Govt. ordinary bus. So after breakfast and rest when I was thinking about the meeting to be held this evening, I began to pray. But as I became too tired and various thoughts began to attack my mind (what questions they will ask, how to answer them etc.) with much irritation I said in Tamil: it is impossible no more. Leave me alone ’. I said to the Lord and lay down to catch my sleep. But as I cannot sleep, again I got up and wrote this song.
When I got too irritated, I used to fight with the Lord and said many times, ‘leave me alone’. Even the tune I set for this song reflected my irritation explicitly. In India ragas also reflect the mood. For example ‘Mukari’ reflects sadness, vasanta joy etc. Each raga has its own time to sing reflecting a particular mood. Unless the singer catches that mood, she cannot do justice both to the song and tune.### 27-08-2014
