Secular Songs 246 to 250

Secular Song 246

Song 246 If it becomes a burden?

Pity indeed is not aware of the loss

And living without understanding is sad indeed

Like a senseless part of the body

That itself becomes a burden

They won’t understand their own situation

And won’t accept if others point that also

We cannot abandon them completely

At the same time, it is difficult to accept them

If it is a senseless part

we can give some treatment (to restore it)

if needed we can replace it

with an artificial limb

But if they are our close relatives

There is no alternative for them

Till the end accepting them (as they are)

We can live with them with adjustment

But how to treat those who came in our life

Neither as a relative or as a friend

If they became such a person, what to do with them?

And what kind of relationship that would be for us

This question is not new

And we don’t have proper answer for this

There is no other alternative thinking that

Time alone will be the correct answer.

Mathirigi, 4-10-16, 4.00 am.

We are born with relatives and some others become our relatives (through the marriage alliance that will happen in our family). Friendship needs to be cultivated as it can never remain as a one way traffic.  And true friendship will never break, as a friend is one to whom you don’t need to explain yourself.  But we get some acquaintances in our lives, who will neither remain as relatives nor as true friends. And how to keep our relationship with them, particularly their new relationship now becoming a burden to us.  At the same time, the situation and their need if didn’t allow us to keep away from them, we have to learn to live with them as part of life to which time alone can give some kind of answer.

Song 247

247 Kindly you tell me

This is my own world who else knows about it

And who can enter into it other than me

Once I go inside and bolt inside

There is no place for others in it

That world belongs to me

And that is my own sweet kingdom

How much peace is in it?

And none understand it truly

I will talk with myself with much humour

And I will weep alone with me

Comforting myself again

I will live again in it (happily)

Though I will come out several times from it

I don’t like to share much about it to others

And I won’t try to communicate

The secret of this world with many words

Though I like to live in it

As a recluse

Someone often come and

Knocks at the door

When I opened to see who it is

I cannot see anyone there

Thinking ‘who it could be’

When I enter back in it

I stand still with shock

As someone was sitting there

When I asked him

“How you managed to come in”

He said that, “I am here already

And you are the one who came now”

Thinking that I came to a wrong place

And when I try to go out

Going ahead of me

He went out and bolted the door outside

Thinking that fortunately he left

When I returned back inside

I couldn’t find me there

And I don’t know the reason for that

As the door is locked outside

I don’t know the way to escape

Though I called many times

Others cannot listen to my voice

And they don’t know

That I am inside

Unless I, who went out

Come back and opened the door

There is no point

In calling anyone

I don’t know to whom I shall ask

And how to put this question:

If I am the one who is inside

Who is the one who went outside?

If someone understood this

Kindly come and tell it to me

And inform me

Where actually am I at present?

Mathirigi, 5-10-16, 11.00 pm.

For me this life as a recluse is the best one that I enjoy.  I have my own world in which I can live freely without much disturbance. I have my right to choose when to come out and when to go inside.  But often I get disturbed as I have to live with others.  So, when I go out and engage with them, I can still live alone simultaneously within me.  But sometimes the confusion comes from who is the one who goes out and engages with others and who is inside. And here I cannot get the answer, unless others point it out. But this kind of life is not exclusive to me alone as I found another companion Al-Hallaj who wrote his experience in four lines.

I am he whom I desire, whom I desire is I;

We are two spirits dwelling in a single body.

If you see me, you have seen him,

And if you see him, you have seen us.– Husayn Ibn-Mansur Al-Hallaj, Frederick M. Smith, Deity and Spirit Possession in South Asia, New Delhi, Motilal Banarsidass Pub. Pvt. Ltd., 2009, quoting from Ernst, Carl W. The Shambhala Guide to Suffism, Boston: Shambhala,1997),

Song 248

Song 248 No solution

How long they will support

And will carry our burden

Looking around

They will unload it and go

First, they will try to make us to understand

And do their best to communicate

But if we remain adamant

Silently they will walk away

They will tell diligently

And give much advice

But if we stand on our own ground

What else can they do?

Once we openly talk

The burden of the heart will go away

But if we keep within us silently

The burden will further increase

First deciding

With whom shall we share?

Then we should tell

When they are willing to listen

At the same time there is no point

Lamenting with everyone unnecessarily

At the same time if I refuse to share with anyone

There is no solution for this

Mathirigi, 10-10-16, 5.45 pm.

Most of the burden that we carry within us is our own problem as we refuse to share with others to unload. At the same time there is no point of lamenting about it with everyone not telling the whole story in proper context.  Both these extremes of refusing to share and sharing with everyone (but not completely) have no solution and others will walk away unable to help us in such a situation.

Song 249

Song 249 Saradha is the reason

By mistake I have scribbled something

Kindly bear with my mistake

If you say, ‘nothing is clear’

Think that fortunately you escaped

Though you have said many times that

There are so many spelling mistakes

Add with it there are mistakes in the thought

Yet I scribbled something like this

Not minding about the mistakes in thought

At least to correct the spelling mistakes

I asked my friend to do that

But she gives so many excuses.

“Once you correct the mistakes in thought

I will do the correction in spelling’

She says with adamant

And I don’t know what to do?

Her husband is my friend

And he too tried to recommend

But she become upset even with him

And gives reason for that to him

“You two cracks joining together

All that you babble in the name of poem

If I began to correct them

Then I too will become a crack (like you both)”

“As she began to react and rebuke

There is nothing that we can do”

Even my friend too

Says like this (and washed his hand from his responsibility)

“When the thought itself is wrong

What if there are mistakes in spelling”

Comforting myself saying this

I scribbled even this poem

There is no point of

Further blaming me

My friend is the reason for this

And you better ask her

Her name is Saradha

She lives at Erode

Her husband is Kannan

But kindly spare him from blaming

Mathirigi, 12.30, 10-10-16 (11-10-16)

Several times I reminded Saradha that she needs to correct the typing errors and spelling mistakes in my Tamil poems. Each time she was giving one excuse or the other.  When I called her again this evening and reminded her, she again began to give some excuse. As I became upset and knew that I cannot do anything further, I retired to bed. Then as the inspiration came, I got up from my bed and wrote this song within five minutes and sent it to Kannan in his Whatsapp number and went to bed knowing that this poem will make her do the job.  And to my surprise she resumed the work the very next day, as she does not want me to write any more poem like this about her.

Song 250

250 Man and Woman

Once the immoral activities

Are commercialized

Morality will become

Invalid

In the name of modernity

If immorality is promoted

Ethics also will become

Unnecessary entity

Many are the relationship

Between man and woman

But we cannot measure them

In one single scale

Many are the differences

Between man and woman

If we accept them

Live will become meaningful

If we imagine a world

Without them together

This truth will become clear

If we cross the limit

While we live together

This world will become

More cruel one

Mathirigi, 11.00, 12-10-16

In the name of modernity what is promoted as freedom, particularly between married couples allowing them to cross their morality, then life on this earth will become very cruel. Though man and woman have various kinds of relationships, the limit and freedom should be guided by some normative ethics.  But what we watch on T.V. about all the immodest activities among them, particularly among the married people, though not new, yes gets new approval in the name of modernity, which needs to be addressed collectively and individually. Otherwise life on earth will become cruel for everyone.  When I watched on program in one TV program in a famous channel about a woman sharing that she will go and stay with another person just for a change with the consent of her husband, who does the same as they have clearly understood their need, I wrote this song
