BT Song 246.

BT Song 246. The boat will reach the shore
Did all the blessings that you bestowed to me
Become mere lies
It became a truth that the boat which is my heart
Is going to drown by hitting in the rock of chanchal (frustration)
As I loaded so many luggage
The boat also titled to one side
As the waves also tossed the boat@
I don’t know how to keep the balance
Which one to keep which one to threw away
Once everything become my duty
But I don’t have time to come
And tell them to you and this is the reality
Amidst this I do one thing
I lament without ceasing each day
Did the voice of my lament drowned in the
Noise of the roaring waves?
Like us, could you tell us the same?
Is it possible for you to say that ‘I didn’t hear’?
Once knowing my situation is it correct on your part
To stand on the shore and give signals
You come walking on the water
You accept your responsibility with understanding
Once taking to the shore becomes your job
Will I get disturbed thinking about my situation?
You never become a lie
O holy one, you never denied your part
As you are there, why should I worry?
The boat will reach the shore safely this is sure.

@There is a Tamil proverb: even if the rain stops, the drizzling continues. When any big events happen, I find it easy to prepare and entertain guests. But once they left, cleaning and re-arranging everything always remained a big challenge. In the past I managed it relatively easily as I was staying here. But now as I have to move back to Mathigiri within a limited period I have to complete the work. And if the worker fails, then that is not possible. Added to it along with my health issue (sudden knee pain on my left leg) and lack of cooperation from others add more burden. Of course I persuaded Kannan to stay back to help me to take care of my mother (which means listening to her. Talking is a woman’s right and listening is man’s dharma). Due to his physical ailment he cannot do much physical work, but that too he did his best (evening he will cook and morning is my duty). As the helper didn’t come for more than four days properly, I couldn’t do much work. As she has four children and the little ones are 15 months old, she too has to struggle. However one day I made it clear that either she has to come in time or I have to get some other help.
So when I tried to spend more time with the Lord and also enjoy my (quiet?!?!) time here, all the pending work, absence of workers, lack of cooperation (don’t read too much here) etc. etc. deprived my sadhana with the Lord. Whether I went for my walk or sat at dhyana mandapam for meditating or waking up at midnight without much sleep—I couldn’t enjoy my time with the Lord.
So on 3rd morning when I got up at 3.00 am (Kannan left on 1st September) I tried my best to immerse myself in the silence around me and also to be with the Lord. But as I am leaving on 5th, all the pending work pushed me and I gave up. Though I tried from 3.00 to 4.00 am to remain quiet and failed then out of frustration I took the paper and with dim light (if I put powerful light my mother will get up and come to rebuke to go to bed by saying ‘don’t sit and think or read like a demon in the mid night’.) I wrote this song.

Notes
This reminds me the song by Appar:
When one life’s angry waves I launch,
My heart’s the raft I take to me
My mind’s the pole I lean upon,
Vexation’s freight I bear to sea.
I strike upon the rock of lust!
O then, though witless quite I be,
Grant, King of holy Ottiyur,
Such wisdom that I think of Thee.

BT Song 247.

BT Song 247. It is your responsibility
You alone gave a stable life
You alone gave an unstable heart (mind)
In this stable life due to unstable heart
Every day becomes a struggle
Tough I have intellect I don’t have the strength
Though I have bhakti I don’t get release/deliverance (from burden)
Though become a sannyasi responsibilities are not coming down
I become weak and there is no response from you
I don’t know which one to renounce
Once accepted the responsibility denying is not correct
But I don’t understand my dharma (of a sannyasi) properly
And it is not correct on your part not to make it clear
You alone showed this is my duty/dharma
You also told the way to accomplish it
Instead of standby you came along with me and helped
Through your grace you also upheld me
Yet I cannot do it any more
O Lord beyond this it is not possible for me
I neither have strength in my body or courage in my heart
I cannot struggle continuously
I cannot run away from my responsibility
I cannot also deny it from my heart
I do as much as I could do
Rest I hand over to you
This very life is given only by you
This very heart is given only by you
Either it is a stable life or unstable heart
It is your responsibility to take care of it.
03-09-2014. Gurukulam. 4.30 a.m.
As I wrote the previous song, I thought, what is my dharma as a sannyasi? Though others may rightly say that as a sannyasi I need not take care of my mother. Likewise I need not go beyond my limitation to take care of this building and property. But my bhakti in the Lord introduces new values which may not be in my (Hindu) worldview. It is God who gave this new life, a stable life in Him and also my unstable mind—which tries to justify running away from responsibility in the name of my dharma as a sannyasi. Then I wrote this song immediately.

BT Song 248

BT Song 248 He will come with us
In this sweet morning time
When we bow at God’s feet
Our thoughts will become pure
All things will be accomplished pleasantly
He will be with us the entire day
He will complete everything properly
When we sit at His feet for few seconds
We too will get ready to walk with Him
Who does not have suffering on this earth?
Who does not have a burden in their heart?
When He is there to bear them
Where comes any depression to us
To do things for God
I don’t have anything with me
But to do things with God
I have everything as He is there to provide
Let us not have any other thought
Let us not troubled by suffering
Taking courage let us go with enthusiasm
As He is there to come along with us.
04-09-2014, Gurukulam, 5.50 a.m.
In the economy of God the sinless has to die for the sinful. And our Lord has done it on the Cross. The cross became a symbol of suffering and also sacrifices. However, though the Lord hesitates to accept the cup of suffering, finally He surrendered to the will of God. Then the cross, for me, remains a mere symbol of suffering and sacrifice but triumphant. When the Lord came to the earth, He came not merely to suffer ‘for’ us but suffer along with us. When He obeyed the will of God He has not done it ‘for’ God but with God. In the same way when Sevanand said that he is suffering in his body for the sake of the mandali. But he never did it with any attitude of suffering ‘for’ others but along with the Lord and mandali.
But in secular life (or even in our Hindu worldview) we have the view that we live, suffer and work ‘for’ others sake. To keep one person happy several have to toil and even suffer. But as a bhakta of the Lord He changed this view for me. I never do anything ‘for’ others but ‘with’ them. So this morning when I was thinking that by tomorrow I will be gone back to a busy and noisy world, I felt some kind of peace and joy in me and no grudge. Two days before, when I lay down in the evening after dinner (generally I never do that); my mother came and asked, ‘are you not happy to go back to Mathigiri’. But I said ‘no’ but due to tiredness I want to take some rest. I never wanted to give the impression that I do this not ‘for’ her sake but ‘with’ her.
Then as I immersed myself in the silence around me and saw the beautiful dawn I said to myself, ‘as He is with me wherever I go each day is a blessed day for me. I am not doing anything for the Lord or others but with the Lord and others.’ I often said that ‘no place is heaven or hell. Only people living there alone make it heaven or hell’. With the Lord every place is heaven for us. That time I wrote this song.

BT Song 249.

BT Song 249. You made relationship
What are things that you have done for me!
You became all kinds of relationship (to me)
In order to over lord me
You gave yourself with much humility
By becoming human
You redeemed me by dying
Again to over lord me
What kind of relationship you have with me
By becoming mother and father
You protected me (so far)
By becoming a brother and friend
You walk with me all through my life
By becoming a thief you have
Stolen my heart to love me
By becoming a servant
You served me everyday
By becoming the teacher
You removed all kinds of fetters
By becoming my guru
You removed the darkness of my heart
However you come to me
By becoming many other relationship
You help me only to live
As your bhakta throughout my life
4-9-2014, Gurukulam, 11.00, p.m.
Night when I was thinking about the concept of bhakti in which the deity takes various kinds of roles to have a relationship with his bhakta, I wrote this song. In Indian bhakti tradition, the deity is also called as a thief as he steals the heart of the devotee as a lover steals the heart of his lady love. Thirugnana Sambandar in his very first song1 calls Siva as a ‘thief’ who has stolen his heart. This demonstrates how in Indian bhakti tradition is not viewed at distance from the reality of life.

BT Song 250

BT Song 250 did I lack anything
I don’t need to think any other thing
I don’t need to tell anything (to you)
It is enough for me to give
As I am to you
You too need not tell anything to me
You don’t need to do anything for me
It is enough you give yourself
To me as you are
For you to give and for me to receive
Is there any (limitation of) time or place
Are there any stumbling blogs for us?
To live together
Wherever I go you will come
As my own
In whichever condition I live
You will uphold me
After knowing this truth
Will I be disturbed in my heart?
Once you came unto me
Do I lack anything else?
4-09-2014 Gurukulam, 11.30 pm.
After writing the previous song (249), I was thinking about my life back at Mathigiri as I have to move back tomorrow. Initially I was bit disturbed and disappointed and sat quietly digesting the reality of life. Though I tried to pray I could not do. Then I said to myself ‘I need not tell anything to the Lord or ask anything from Him. Once He becomes mine I don’t miss anything in life.’ Then as a prayer I wrote this song.
