BT Song 326 Let your will be accomplished
This poor heart is
Longing
And why do you
Continue to mock me?
What I need to achieve
By living further?
Every day I am longing
To come to you.
The life on earth become a burden
Time is merely going in waste
Somehow I live each day
And my heart is longing (to come)
When I have enough health
Won’t you take me to the further shore?
Before I fall on a bed
Won’t you call me back?
Did you create me by asking my permission?
Will you consult me before taking me?
You gave me a few words.
Only to lament
Somehow this day is gone
In the same way another day will go
Somehow let the days go
And let your will be accomplished.
28-8-15, 8.50 pm. Mathigiri.
One constant longing for everyone is that without falling on bed with much sickness, we should depart from this earth. At least this is part of the Indian worldview. Often my mother will say, ‘like your father, I too should go’, which means she should die without lying down on bed with sickness. I am no exception to this crowd and I express this longing to the Lord, though I resign that also to his will.
BT Song 327

BT Song 327 This is the right time
This is the right time—oh my Lord
This is the right time!
To take me along with you
And to call me to go with you.
There are no words to express the longing of my inner being
There is none on this earth who will understand this other than you
I don’t have words to communicate this (longing)
To whom shall I tell as I don’t have anyone to call as my relative!
There are human beings on this world to call as my relatives
Yet who is there among them like you?
Like me they too long in several ways
What is the use of telling this to them?
I don’t say this out of frustration
I don’t tell this as I don’t have any other means
When I live on this earth with true contentment
It is better for me to go with you before I begin to babble losing my words.
Anyhow I just uttered something what I know
Somehow I know that I will come unto you
If that will be now it is better for me
What is the need to tell more, if you understand this that is enough for me?
Mathirigiri, 28-8-15, 9.15 pm.
As I miss my walking a lot here at Mathigiri, I bought one equipment to do some exercise. My neighbour joked to me this morning that ‘so you too want to build your body with a six pack and live long’. In response I said that, ‘now itself I am ready to go and eagerly waiting for a call from God. I have neither any work nor any purpose to live anymore. My only concern is about Patti (my mother) and I would like to live to take care of her till she passes away and then I am ready to go’. For this he said, ‘then don’t eat for three days and see what happens?’ With a laugh I said, ‘mortification of the body is against human value and as long as we live, we need to take care of it also’.
And tonight, as I don’t have much work on my Computer which broke, I was reading a book. Suddenly I said to the Lord in Tamil, ‘how I long to go but why you are mocking at me’. (see the first four lines in Tamil in song 326). Then stop reading the book I wrote the first song 326. After completing the song within five minutes, I continued my reading, but again as the same thought prevailed then I said to the Lord, ‘this is the right time for you to take me with you’. Then I wrote the next song. 327
As I said in song 327 (stanza three) this longing is not because of frustration or depression but with real contentment and with an eagerness to go away when I am relatively enjoying a healthy life. As every person desires, I too die without giving trouble to others.
One thing that I learned about life because of my bhakti in the Lord is that there is no need for pessimism, though often frustration will come (mostly because of our temperament). So this longing to go away from this world is a positive hope of our mukti more than any frustration in life on this earth.
At the same time we should not form any theology or even ideology based upon any poem. They are more emotional outlets and in a sense ecstatic than even philosophical. When some words come as inspiration, I will write them and if inspiration continues then I will write them as poems. When I begin I don’t know how the next stanza will come and how it will end. Few times I have to reflect on my thoughts before I complete the poems. In a few, I have to change a few words not extremely contradicting the Muktivedic principle, though not get complete endorsement.
For example see below the way I changed the tone of the song completely only changing very few words. Now this points more about my longing to walk everyday with Him. I only changed one word in the Saranam and the last line in stanza three.
I like the comments by Gutting as he said: …Poetry, at its most profound, need not observe consistency— Howard Wettstein, a professor of philosophy at the University of California, Riverside, and the author of “The Significance of Religious Experience.”—in interview conducted by Gary Gutting for The Stone, p. 13

BT Song 328

BT Song 328 Few days’ life
The few days’ life
Too will soon come to an end
You remember this
Oh my heart!
Not disciplining the mind
By taming it
Don’t be spoiled
By wavering.
The one who said that He will come
Will come soon
But will He tell
The time of His arrival?
Tying the towel
Around your waist
You be prepared
To serve Him.
You long for the
Needs of the body
And to satisfy the heart
You do many things
But you ignore
The atman
As it won’t
Complaint to you!
But you should
Give account
To the one
Who created it?
Stopping karmas
For some time
And keeping the mind
Under your control
Abiding the atman
In Him
You meditate
Every day in Him.

As my computer broke I don’t have much work in it. This helped me to relax myself. Some urgent work that demanded the need of the computer to send some text for printing etc. forced me to think how to arrange for another one. So even in their broken state the gadgets can control us. This brought a smile when I was enjoying my morning quiet time with a cup of tea. Then I said to myself in Tamil, ‘the fleeting life of a few days will soon come to an end. But instead of thinking about it, how I am worried about the work that both my body and mind demand.’ Then I wrote this song.
BT Song 329

BT Spong 329 What kind of nature is this?
Show some mercy
And listen to our mourning
Bestow abundantly
Who come to begs to you
If you give bit rain
The dying crops
Will praise you
By getting life again
But if they dried up
Our hearts will be troubled
Won’t you show your mercy?
By seeing through the corner of your eyes
The farmers are troubled
And the people on this earth are bewildered
But you remain indifferent
Though you are the creator
What kind of nature is this?
From where it came
Which never was with you?
Before ever?
Will you understand?
Only if I sing a song of ‘aram’
Can I go?
To that extreme?
Do whatever you want
What can we do?
We only know
To come and complain to you
Mathigiri, 1-9-15, 2.45 p.m.
This morning my neighbour came and with much sorrow said, ‘please pray for rain. The crops are drying. We spent a lot of money to sow’. I understood his frustration, as again a dry spell is drying the crops. There is a Tamil proverb which says that only if the farmers kept their hand in mud, we can put our hand in the plate So, this afternoon when I was praying, I said the first line in Tamil as it is and then I wrote this song. As I really became upset with God, I even went to the extent of warning Him that ‘do I need to write a song of aram’. I don’t know if there is any equivalent to this tradition in any other culture in the world.
Poverty is born with the poets. So, they always depended upon the patterns, particularly the kings for their survival. However, when they saw that the king was violating dharma, they never hesitated to warn him. The kings also had a subtle fear that if a poet wrote a song of ‘aram’ against him that it would destroy his kingdom. So more than his powerful enemies a king always had an inner fear towards the poets who lived an upright life. That is why I said in the last but one stanza that I need to sing a song of ‘aram’ against God (though I never lived an upright life). Of course, I know that His righteousness (dharma) never changes. But both my bhakti and poem give this kind of freedom of expression to plead to God.
Here I give one such song written by Kamban when the Chola king asked him to leave his kingdom, in which Kamban says, ‘are you the king and your kingdom is the only rich land? Do I write in Tamil only depending upon you? Is there no other king who won’t receive me eagerly? Is there any tree which won’t receive monkeys?
In the next song Kamban also glorifies the farmers praising their hand as: the one which upholds the furrow; which is looked upon by the kings, which bestows mercy to the people (by producing food), which removes poverty, the one which sustains life for a long time. Valluvar even went to the extent of saying that, ‘Though laborious, farming is the best; All trades in the world rely on it.—Kural 1031. See few more Kural glorifying farmers. @

BT Song 330 He will listen
How could God remain blind not seeing our need
and remain indifferent after knowing our suffering?
Where else the baby will go when the mother spanks
Other than falling back on the lap of her mother to cry?
Compassion alone as His nature
He bears much with all our mistakes
Will he remain indifferent?
And reject us as sinners?
Is He a human being to remain like this?
Is He a fool to get irritated?
Once Compassion becomes the nature of God
Will He close his ear for our wailing?
He knows our (present) condition
He only waits for us to ask
Once He is ready to give even before we ask
His ears always remain opened to listen to our prayers.
In His own time He will give everything
He will give rain (grace) not allowing us to long for it
Will the One who planted the tree forgot about it?
Will He remain a witness for the pang (suffering) of His own creation?
3-9-2015 Mathigiri, 3.55 pm.
As the standing crops are almost dying, with much frustration I wrote the previous song (329). Then yesterday a little bit of rain came. But it
was not enough. However it helped the crops to survive a bit. Then I wrote this song that how God could remain indifferent after seeing the
need of the people. Even if the mother gives a spank to the baby it will go back to her again and again as it does know any other
security. Similarly however God allows trials and suffering a true bhakta will seek the lap of God to fall back and cry. I like this illustration of the baby falling back to the lap of its mother, though she gives spanks when the child does some mischief, as it does not know any other protection other than the mother.
