BT Song 356 I will enjoy my bhakti
You redeemed the sinner
Gave me this life because of bhakti
You gave mind (buddhi)
To do bhakti (to you)
Like a mother you hugged me
Like a father you carried me on your shoulder
Like a brother you gave support
Like a friend you walked with me
You kept me in the world
You gave the nobleness to proclaim you
You gave the boon to sing about you
You gave yourself to live in me
You gave Veda to know you
You gave the heart to worship you
And you gave the company of bhaktas
To increase your glory
I will write new songs
And rejoice all the day
will live as a bhakta
And immersed in my bhakti.
10-12-2015, Mathigiri, 2.40 pm.
After writing the above song (355), I again try to read. But again I closed the book and continued my silence. Some kind of joy overflowed in my heart. Then enjoying that blissful movement I wrote this song within a few minutes and closed this day’s reading and meditation.

BT Song 357 I should stop scribbling
Thinking only about you
Living only with you
My heart should melt
Contemplating your greatness
Thousands works are there
Too many responsibilities are there
Yet not drowning in them
You should protect me
So many needs are there
In order to live each day
But you should save me
Not only seeking them
Mind is there
In order to evaluate
But it (mind) should not become confused
As it analyzes too much
As trains of thought continuous come
And words are following freely
I should not write
To present my view
In order to writing something
Without having any meaning
By joining letter by making words
I should not make a mess
When I think only about you
And worship at your feet
I should not scribble something
Even writing it as a poem.
11-12-2015, Mathigiri, 2.30 pm.
Apart from my regular Muktivedic reading every day, I am reading a few books simultaneously. As I completed one book two days before, I took another book to read after the one which at present I am reading. But when I finished reading two pages, my mind refused to move further and I cannot understand even one page properly. As I continue to reflect on the subject of the book which I completed (as I cannot agree with the author on many points), I cannot concentrate on the present reading. Happily I closed the book and said, ‘good. Now I can spend more time with the Lord in prayer and meditation’. Then I said to the Lord, ‘no reading, no thinking, and no reflection just talking only with you. How happy I am at this.’ And I continue to say, ‘I should think only of you; talk only with you; live only with you and dissolve my whole being within you’. But when I said this, automatically some inspiration came to write a poem on this. But I resisted that temptation and inspiration and even said, ‘I am not going to write a poem even on this experience. What kind of hurdle is this?’ But I miserably failed and as the words continue to flow in my mind one after the other, I justified myself by saying, ‘ok. Let me write the first stanza alone’. Because sometimes if we miss that inspiration, we cannot recall the words or sentences which we got. So quickly I wrote the first stanza. But as the words continued to flow, I said, ‘Ok, let me finish this poem so that I can, with some peace of mind, continue to talk with the Lord’. And within five minutes I completed the song except the last one. As I want to rebuke myself for such a tendency to write even on my personal time with the Lord, criticising me I wrote the last stanza.
BT Song 358

BT Song 358 No other way
Nothing new in anything
I don’t see any change in others
But if I need to change myself
How is it possible then?
Time and season have not changed
Our worries and needs need not change
Human beings do not change,
Then can I change my nature alone?
Circumstance didn’t change
Relatives and friends remain the same
Nature also didn’t change
But is it possible only with me?
Temperament didn’t change
Ideals also didn’t change
Crime and shortcomings didn’t come down
Will my nature alone will get changed
You too didn’t change
You nature didn’t go
Taking courage on this
I come as I am
You too accept me as I am
There is no way for you
Because you alone asked me
To come as I am
11-12-2015, Mathigiri, 2.55 pm.
After writing the previous song (357), with some peace of mind I said, ‘Ok. Now I can spend some quality time with the Lord. But the last stanza of the previous poem made me laugh and I said ‘I am not going to change’. Then I said, ‘I don’t see any change in others too; everything goes as usual; all continue to live and do work as per their nature; even the creation continues to go as usual; so why should I alone change’. But it was already 2.55 pm, and I have to prepare some Tiffin for my mother by 3.00 pm. So I quickly wrote this song within three minutes and close my ‘TIME WITH THE LORD’ with a smile and satisfaction that as He too is not going to change His nature, He will accept me as I am’.
BT Song 359

BT Song 359 Simple bhakti
How great is it to live as a bhakta
We can over lord our mind through our bhakti
It is an established truth that Bhakti remains an anchor
In this world where so many philosophies float.
If we see the history of our ancestors
If we read the philosophy of the wise
If we search a noble path
By swearing we can say that it is only bhakti
Each one said as per her thought
And placed so many arguments
If we research all of them
Thousands of questions alone will remain
But they don’t have the maturity which bhakti gives
As analysing and research continues
When they are going to find the result
And will I show the path to the simple one like me?
Let them continue to try for the impossible
And try to resolve all the contradictions
Meanwhile living as a simple bhakta
Let people like me attain mukti

These days I am reading ‘Debating Vivekananda: A Reader’, ed. A. Raghuramaraju, New Delhi, Oxford University Press, 2014.
The way Swami Vivekananda was analyzed, appraised, appreciated, condemned, critiqued, criticized, reviewed, viewed, glorified, etc. etc. I feel sorry for him. Whether he himself would understand about him now is the way he is analyzed with contemporary views super imposed on him. Sometimes I think it is better to live and die as an unknown person than to live and die as a celebrity. The cost that they pay after their death is much higher than what they paid when they were alive.
Several of Swami Vivekananda’s thoughts and statements cannot be stretched beyond a particular context. By keeping one topic and pulling all his statements which he made on various occasions in different contexts to analyze him, we rather get a gloomy picture about him than any clarity. At the same time I appreciate the ability of these scholars who can bring some structural understanding about Vivekananda and his legacy. But for me, it is better to let him remain as he was like any other typical Hindu—a pluralist. Systemization will help us to present and understand some thoughts or people but it will never give the real picture about them. But the interesting point for me is that such a debate will continue without any end or arriving at any conclusion. And I thought: better be a simple bhakta with a childlike faith than a pundit with all kinds of mind blowing analysis. Then I wrote this song.
BT Song 360

BT Song 360. “A Request to Forget Me”
With folded hands I request you
And plead with you to do me a favor
Please don’t do
Any kind of study of me
In the race of life
I run with much pain and strain
So that by some means
I too will reach the Further Shore
Though born as a human being
I never remained like a ‘human’
Though I have a mind,
I never completely understood myself
Reason (intellect) refuses to accept many things
But bhakti accepts a few things
And my mind swings
In between reason/rationalism and bhakti
Neither I have grown in my intellect
Nor shine in my bhakti
Somehow the grace of God
Sustains me each day
Who can understand that grace
Unless one owns it as her/his own
And they unnecessarily debate over it
Without actually receiving it
When we are born
The world gives an identity to us
And when we will pass away
It asks us to go with that identity
Whatever that might be
And whoever bestows it to us
I with humility request to give
the identity of “Bhakta” for me
I lived as a sinner
He redeemed me and made me a “bhakta”
That one identity is
Enough for this slave
Therefore I request you one thing
And plead with you to forget me
And please bury me in Him
To increase Him and decrease me
Will you exhume a buried body
And do the post mortem?
Don’t do that cruel act
I plead with much humility
13.12.2015, Mathigiri, 2.00 pm
This is a bit autobiographical; if you get irritated please ignore this poem.
I read two rebuttals1 today that overwhelmed me in showing how Swami Vivekananda was more of a victim than an ideal case study for scholars.
Then I thought about myself. Whether I like it or not, there will be some debate about me in the future. Already two people have done that already in their books. It was amusing to think how they will interpret me against their ideologies and agendas.
But if I was asked, “How would you like to be remembered?” my humble response would be, “Please forget me completely.” I don’t say this with any pseudo-humility but a real commitment. Frankly, I want to be erased from people’s memory. If that is not possible, the only way I want to be interpreted is as “a bhakta of Muktinath” – nothing more and nothing less.
I don’t believe the myth that we have no identity when we are born and we have none when we die. According to my understanding, we are all born and die with an identity (cultural, social, religious, etc.). No matter how you change that identity (changing religion, culture, nationality, gender, etc.) we must carry some identity when we die. For me, I want that identity to be as ‘a bhakta of Muktinath’.
My rational mind refuses to understand or accept so many things related to the life and mission of the Lord. At the same time, my bhakti is happy to remain His bhakta because I don’t need any proof other than my own life. I never lived an extremely immoral life, but knowing my nature, I have always thought of myself as a sinner saved by the Grace of the Lord.
Many other (Hindu) saints had similar experiences2 and claimed to be saved by the same grace of God. But I find the doctrine of prayaschitta (atonement) done by the Lord more convincing as it addresses my psychological and moral (spiritual) needs. Until the end of my life, I have to swing between rationality and my bhakti.
Therefore, as a sinner saved by the grace of Bhagavan Muktinath, I would prefer to be forgotten by all. If that won’t happen, let my life ‘increase His glory’ and decrease my identity and let me be buried in Him. As a final request, please don’t unearth my life after I die to conduct some post-mortem to give a report to others according to your ideology or agenda.
Anxiety is inevitable when you worry about how people will think of you after you are gone. When I was at Mahari (Rewa, M.P. with Shashi Kant Dube 11-11-1994) I wrote a poem about it.3 I never consciously planned my life. Several things happened on their own, decided by the invisible Hands of God. Only those who receive that grace alone can understand my life. Those who try to analyze my life with their agenda will only end up presenting a picture about me which I myself never understood or intended to live.

“Autobiography”
Once I pass away
what all people will talk about me?
no one will ask about my mind
when I am still alive!
Many stories will be told about me that
“he renounced everything
as he does not have courage to live
all are mere outward drama and
We cannot see any great change in him!
What could be the reason for him to do it?
Run away from a life like this?
Maybe it could be love failure”.
But I didn’t renounced the life
And not get defeated in any other thing
I too live a good life
Like you all
Wealth, love, wife and children
Are they mere outward appearances in this world?
Won’t come when we go away
As they won’t come along with me when I go away
I don’t need them when I live too!
