BT Song 361

BT Song 361 One who bestows
He will do only good
to His bhaktas who have faith in Him
He bestows grace to the simple
who seek it from Him
He will give company
Who is depressed because of suffering?
And will give bhakti to those
Who praise and hail His name
He will give fame to those
Who thinks about others’ welfare?
And provides wealth
For those who do charity
He will take His abode among those
Who removes the hunger of others?
And will be pleased
When we sing Him in sweet Tamil.

Those who don’t believe in God think that by our prayers asking several things from Him make us weak and force us to depend upon Him rather than have faith in us. But true bhakti never has such a notion. Belief in God and seeking His help is not a sign of weakness but declares our need for ethical and moral support to encourage our inner man.
BT Song 362.

BT Song 362. I will run the race
I need to have the aim to complete my race
By living each day with you by ‘One day at a Time’
Thousands of constraints are in the world
And amidst them I need your peace
Life is fleeing, the body also worn out
Therefore, the race becomes bit slow
Somehow by completing my race
If I manage to reach you, that is enough for me.
The desire also get changed according to the age
The position also get changed according to the comforts
The heart is also get changed according to the circumstance
Yet amidst all these my relationship will continue with you as the same
Not living always thinking about this body
Which is created out of dust?
I come unto you longing to have
That ‘heavenly’ body as early as possible
Yet I will run the ‘race’ which you gave me
I will experience the encouragement that you provide
I will realize your strength which you give
To accomplish your seva each day.

I went to the ashram two days before our annual meeting; I enjoyed my time alone with the Lord. But the forthcoming meeting and several responsibilities with it bit discouraged me as I recently got severe lower back pain. Though others are there to help, yet I know that I need to work with this new ailment. When I was thinking about this, I wrote this song as my prayer.
BT Song 363

BT Sog 363 Unknown Grace
Who will understand this Compassion?
Who will understand your grace?
Unless experienced in the heart
How can others understand by proclaiming it?
We need not talk any philosophy
We need not engaged in many debate
We need not even analyse with our buddhi
Bhakti is enough for it (to understand)
We need not understand many Sastras (code of contacts)
We need not do many rituals
We need not consider the position and status
Realizing one’s shortcomings (to understand it) is enough
We need not reciprocate it by giving something
We need not even dance to worship Him
We need not even Praise Him in many ways
Reaching (Saranagati) His feet is enough for that
We need not communicate by any writings
We need not compose songs and sing
We need not even try to explain it
Which is beyond the reach of comprehension?
Joining with those who understood it
And bowing at His feet and singing His praise
And living for others to understand who didn’t understand it
Many will understand that Grace.
27-12-2015, Gurukulam, 6.00 pm
As I was reflecting on my recent study on Vivekananda (see song 360), I realized that the concept of Grace, according to my understanding and experience dwarfs all other philosophical and theological discussion. One may have all kinds of understanding and approach to metaphysics, but once touched by the Grace of God, rest looks immaterial and meaningless. This unique foundation of bhakti helps me to rejoice in the Lord all the time. As I was staying in the ashram alone, I reflected upon the grace of God and wrote this song.
In the fourth stanza I saw that we need not even sing and praise Him. But in the final stanza I say that we will sing and praise Him. This is not a contradiction. The first is a means to communicate that Grace to others, which we try to do. On the other hand, the final one is the natural and spontaneous expression when we join with other bhaktas who understand it. The former is a method to communicate and the latter is the result of that experience.
BT Song 364

BT Song 364 Is this Tapasya? (penance)
Is this real tapasya?
All these days I never understood this—is this…
Not speaking anything
And only thinking about you
Worshipping you in my mind
And bowing at your feet—is this….
Doing many things thinking that
Time is not passing
Not becoming tired
And worshiping you with concentration—is this…
Reading whatever I could grab
In order to improve my knowledge
Not confusing my mind
And thinking only your feet—is this…
In order to expand my wisdom
And others to think that I am a wise man
Not babbling many things
And keeping quiet—is this…
Coming unto your feet
Meditating only about your grace
Giving up myself completely
And living only with you—is this…
27-12-2015, Gurukulam, 7.15 pm.
As I again enjoyed my time alone in the ashram, after my evening walk I sat quietly—not reading, no TV, or carnatic music, or not even prayer, but sat quietly just to relax in the Lord. To my surprise the time went quickly. I never realized that I feel lonely or bored without having any kind of physical or mental activities. Then I said to myself, ‘is it the real tapasya (austerity) which I never understood so far. Then I wrote this song.
BT Song 365

BT Song 365 There is some reason
Love is there
Grace is also there
Along with this
Your companionship is there for me.
Yet I have
Some contention (with you)
And I feel shy
To utter it.
Why should
Even I tell it to you
Why this unnecessary
Drama is essential for you?
You have the responsibility
To heed me
Before I
Make complaints.
Yet I have
Hesitation to tell it
When I come
To share with you
I have the desire
To renounce
And I have your support
To do that
Yet why you
Gave responsibility to me
To do seva
And to bear this burden?
There are people
To share my burden
Yet I find it
Very heavy
I find it
Difficult to give it up
At the same time
I hesitate to carry it.
I have the right
To share with you
Whatever I
Feel like sharing
Yet you have
More responsibility
To give me
Deliverance from this
There is some
Reason for you
To close this
Case for ever.
But why you hesitate
To tell it
That you have your own time
To do that?
31-12-2015, Mathirigi, 6.00. am.
As I went to the ashram for the yearly meeting, my brother came to take care of my mother. He tried his best to persuade her to come and stay with him, at least for a few months so that I will have some time to travel or go to the ashram. But my mother refuses to concede. She said, ‘if Kumar (that is my family pet name) wants to go to the ashram, let him go. But I won’t go anywhere.’ She knows that I won’t do that. Sometimes when my mother pesters me too much, I will tell my neighbour that I want to become a real sannyasi and go away without having any kind of responsibility (including the ashram). And in response with a smile he used to say, ‘so your were not yet become a sannyasi’? ‘How is it possible unless my mother allows me to become one? And others relieve me from so many responsibilities related to a building and property in the name of Ashram?’, I said in response.
But God has His own reason and time to do certain things which expect Him to do for us.
So this morning as I got up early, after having my tea, and spending some time in prayer, as I was thinking about this, I wrote this song.
