BT Song 371

BT Song 371 Mukti

I am a fool who does not understand the nobleness of Mukti

I am a little boy who does not understand the deepness of bhakti

I am an innocent one who does not understand anything through buddhi

O holy one I took refuge at your feet!

I don’t know the place where I will go after death

I don’t know whether it will be dark or light

The Mukti which I cannot experience while I am living

I won’t like to have after my death to enjoy it

The struggle is there in this flesh

Mind also stumbles on so many issues

So many longings are there when think about the future

I need deliverance from all these

By removing hunger and sickness

Giving peace to the troublesome mind

Removing the anxiety about the future

And beginning mukti from the deliverance of these things

You will take me with you eternally

And will bestow an unending life

And keeping me along with other bhaktas

Give that noble mukti now itself

I experience that Mukti in everyday life

Rejoice in the bliss that it gives

And others to receive this kind of deliverance

I came unto you seeking your mercy for all.

15-1-16, 2.30 Pm, Mathigiri

As we were doing a Muktivedic study, to a question on Mukti, I began to share my thoughts.  Then this afternoon as I was reflecting on what I shared, I wrote this poem.  For me if I cannot have a glimpse of that mukti while I live in my flesh amidst all kinds of struggle, there is no point of having it after death.  Of course there won’t be any completely carefree life on this earth.  But amidst these entire struggles the joy that I receive from Him is the beginning of that Mukti.  Otherwise it is merely a utopian dream.

BT Song 372 A riddle

Somehow the days are running here

And my heart is longing for something

Unable to utter or to understand

Life too goes in its own way.

Time is going as if it is planned

Life is going as if it is unplanned

Whichever plan I make

Finally, only His plan is gets accomplished

What is there to plan in this?

When He alone ends as He began it

Apart from playing the role assigned by Him

What else is there for us to do in the middle?

Yet what is happening is not merely a drama

The role that we play is not imaginary character

Everyday life is not merely a dream

And His plan is also remains un-comprehensible

What clarity will we get even if we understand it?

And fear will come when we began to understand it

Continue to remain as a riddle

Alone will give meaning to the life on earth

Whichever might remain as a riddle?

Whatever might be the life on this earth?

Once we understand His Will

There will be meaning in this life on earth

But how to understand His will which remain un-comprehensible

How to understand one which remains a riddle?

To know that to remain as un-comprehensible

Is the only means to understand it?

18-1-16, Mathigiri, 11.30 pm.

As I retired to bed, I was sitting silently holding my head in my hand. Some kind depression came and I began to cry.  Every day my life goes as if programmed without any change.  At the same time, I realize that without anything that I plan, life goes as per the Plan of God.  This paradox of life has confused me.  After remaining silent for a long time, I said, ‘it is good that I don’t understand this riddle.  What a tragedy it would be if I clearly understood it.  Then I wrote this song.  The best way to understand the riddle about life is to understand that it will remain a riddle all the time.

But some questions that often come to my mind are:

What is the so-called Will of God which no one clearly understood or uttered so far?

What is the jnana (knowledge) which we often say is essential for various things in life?

For me certain words like ‘Will of God’ ‘Jnana’ remain mere objective jargon without having any clear understanding by anyone—at least to me.

BT Song 372

BT Song 373 No emissary is required

I need not observe time and season

And I don’t need to observe rituals and vows

It is enough to think Him only in my heart—O Parrot

The entire thought becomes sweet

He is like the cloud

And has charity as His nature

He bestows the boon—O Parrot

To His devotees who desire them.

He has merciful heart

And came to the world to take care of us

By keeping us on His hands—O Parrot

He will tell ‘don’t be troubled’.

In order to fulfil the will of Father

And to redeem us by giving Himself

Having much humility—O Parrot

He died on the cross

He lord over by redeeming us

He came only to save us

And when we plead with penitence—O Parrot

He will receive us by forgiving.

You don’t need to go anymore as a messenger

And you don’t need to convey my sorrow

Once He become my companion—O Parrot

Why do I need your emissary anymore?

19-1-16, Mathigiri, 6.10 am.

This morning from the movement I got up, I began to think again and again about the Lord.  That thought continued when I went to the bathroom to brush my teeth. Then I experienced that my mind/heart began to sing automatically using the first line. That time almost before I came out from the bathroom, I wrote this song in my mind which I recorded later.

These kinds of songs in which sending parrot, flower, cloud (Megdut) etc. as messenger is a kind of poetic genre in Indian literature.

BT Song 374

BT Song 374 What he recalled?

When he was sobbing; recalling

With heavy burden in his heart

How he lamented confessing all

And how he felt very sad?

‘Even the entire world denies you

I won’t do that

I will give myself to protect you’

Did he remember this?

When the guru came carrying the water

To wash the feet (of the disciples)

‘I won’t allow you to do this to me’

Did he remember these words?

‘We left everything to follow you

What we will gain’ as he asked

‘You will receive the eternal life’

Did he remember this promise (by the Lord)

I am also in the same situation

And walk everyday denying you

‘do you have love for me’

as I heard the Lord was asking this

Bowing my head silently

And afraid to lift up my face to see Him

I took refuge at His feet by saying:

‘You know that too O my Lord’.

Mathigiri, 21-1-2016, 11.30 p.m.

As per my regular sadhana, I was reading from Muktiveda, (Mark 14: 66-72).  After reading this section, I turned to the Pura Veda to read a chapter in it.  But before I could begin to read it, again and again the one line ‘நினைவு கூர்ந்து அழுதான்’ (he wept remembering) began to echo in my mind. As I couldn’t read further, I stopped reading and began to reflect on it. Then I thought what were the other things Paras (Peter) might have recalled when he was bitterly wept remembering Lord’s word that he will deny Him?  Then as a meditation I wrote this song. But at the end I thought that I too am doing the same.  Then recalling Lord’s final question to Paras ‘do you love me’, I step in Paras position and completed the song as He knows about it well.

BT Song 375

BT Song 375  Wont’ I sing?

Won’t I sing you; won’t I sing unto you?

When I am still living on this earth—won’t I sing…?

Unnecessary thoughts and unwanted worries

Not able to drown by pushing me down—won’t I…

The new blessings which you give each day in my life

And unable to count them—won’t I….

By lifting me up the mean one like me

The way you redeemed me—Wont’ I sing…

Not allowing me to perish with desires of the flesh

The way you gave the seal of the Holy Spirit and over lord me—won’t I sing…

Though I sing and praise you by words and language

Still the way you dwell within me in silence—won’t I sing…?

Making me your own and becoming my own

And singing each day with a joyful heart—won’t I sing…

Joining with other bhaktas to praise you

By writing new songs each day—wont’ I sing….

22-1-16, (23-1-16) 12.05 am. Mathigiri

Gopalakrishna Bharatiyar’s one of the poems ‘Kaana vendaamo’ is one of my favourite songs.  As I often listen to it this night based on the same raga and format I wrote this song praising the Lord.
