Secular Songs 351 to 400
Secular Song 351

Secular Song 351 Relationship and fire
Seeking after us
When need has comes
Once it is fulfilled
Going away
Is quite common
For the human
We too one among them
Believe this
Not coming often
To disturb
It is better to come
When there is a need
One way this
Is better
The green in distance
Is good for the eye
Is quite common
Both for the fire and relationship
To become cold after leaving
And become hot when come very close
Knowing this
And behaving accordingly
We should guard
Both fire and relationship
If we kindle the fire
Unnecessarily
Soon it will die down
And become ash
If we rub too much
Without any need
Some kind of irritation
Will also come in relationship
If we blow air
In that dying fire
Only ash will blow up
And will fall in the eyes
When we try to mend
The broken relationship
Some kind of friction
Will be there always
Blowing gently
We should try to
Revive the fire
Which is about to die
And we need
More maturity
To mend any
Broken relationship
Mathigiri, 5-8-2017, 2.10 pm.
Human relationship is one way of maintaining a fire, which present generation with gas and electric stove won’t understand. But still they can experience the similarity between the fire and relationship. Both need to be nurtured to enjoy them. So maturity is the only need of the hour in maintaining and celebrating human relationships. Those who use firewood know the art of reviving a dying fire. Careful handling is required to revive it. Otherwise one will end up getting a sore eye affected by ash or smoke.
Secular Song 352 The beauty of life
When we think
About some people’s life
We are ending up
Only laughing at them
When relatives
Are come seeking after them
They ignore them
What can I do about it?
Thinking all that
Went in the past
And blaming
Many things about it
Digging again
All that went in the past
They ask so many questions
Recalling them all of them back
Forgetting the past
Thinking only about the future
Relatives joining again
And celebrating it
Living together
In the rest of the life
Is not the
Only beauty in life!
Mathigiri, 7-8-2017, 11.10 pm.
Though history cannot be rewritten, understanding it depends upon how we interpret and present it to the new generation. This is very true in mending broken relationships. When others seek reconciliation, those who reject it by digging out all the past and fighting over it again will make life more tragic one. Particularly keeping the interest of the new generation which does not know all the past history the old generation should not unnecessarily dig all the past and in the name of telling the ‘whole past history’ need not explain every point that created some friction in the relationship. Because all those explanations are nothing but our present interpretation of the past and not the real facts, which cannot be understood divorced from that given context. But we can only pity those old generations who reject any reconciliation by digging the past alone.
Secular Song 352

Secular Song 353

Secular Song 353 What kind of worry do you have?
You have some worry
And there is no means to get rid of them
You preached to the world
But where is the sermon for you now?
There is no point
In lamenting all that went in the past
And even if you began to think what is going to come
There is no hope to change them
The world is not functioning
For you separately
There is no time
To think about others
You have too many
Unnecessary dreams
And what is the need
For you to carry them unnecessarily
Just carry
Other’s burden
Then you will realize
How pitiable are they
They even run
Carrying you too
Not realizing this
You are murmuring
Many don’t have
The comfort that you have
Forgetting that
You are getting agitated much
Giving up what you have
And longing which is not you have
Taking deep sigh
You are lamenting unnecessarily
What kind of worry
You have? Think that first.
You sit and eat
Not toiling much
Think that first
And then tell me
Now shut up your mouth
And first listen this
Mathigiri, 10-8-2017, 4.30 am.
Self-centeredness often makes one focus on her personal issues rather than to think about her relationship which one way affects others—and also her own life. Only when we begin to think about others, their issues, problems and worries can we soberly realize about so many advantages that we enjoy relatively more easily than others. Often in my life, I keep myself at the centre of my life and approach every other thing. Though I need to overcome this self-centeredness, yet this is a reality. So this morning when I began to think about various issues that I have to handle in everyday life (and also in future), I realized that more than others I have an easy and relatively comfortable life. As I began to reflect about it, I wrote this song rebuking my self-centeredness.
Secular Song 354

Secular Song 354 A sorrow
Where can we find
A sorrow more than this
And who will have
Sorrow like this as they have.
When others come
Seeking relationship
They keep away
It is very sad indeed
Who has not?
Did I make any mistakes?
Who does not have it?
Any shortcomings?
Once we have
The nature of fault finding
There is none good
Other than us
They will
Throw away others easily
And very clearly
Point out others’ mistakes
But when we say
That this is not correct
Then they will
Become upset with us
Patience has
Gone away from them
And they don’t
Have the ability to tolerate
For everything
They know only to mock
They never repented
Pity indeed is their condition
This too is
Wrong in one way
Writing like this
Even become a mistake
I do the same mistake
Which others are doing
And this too
Become my habit
At the same time
I will say that this is not a mistake
Unable to keep within me
I shared this
And forgive
This my mistake
I bow before you
Folding both my hands
Mathigiri, 17-8-2017, 3.00 am.
Still I cannot understand why the first line of the song came to mind when I got up around 3.00 to go to the bathroom. That time the first line automatically, even without any reason, echoed in my mind. When I returned back to my bed, the second line followed. Then I realized that unless I record them in the notebook, my mind won’t let me go to sleep and continue to echo them. So I took the note and wrote the first two lines. Before I could finish the next six lines came one after one. And after recording them, knowing the pestering nature of my mind, I took the note and pencil and specs and went to bed. As I predicted, the second stanza also began to flow in my mind. At the same time as I became very tired, I don’t want to get up and go to the table to sit and write. So keeping the light on, turning on one side of the bed, keeping the note on the wall, I began to write the second stanza. That’s all. One by one as the lines continue to flow in my mind, I completed the song.
The one reason for the first line to come in my mind could be that my unconscious mind was reflecting about the recent family event held on 13th when one of our closest relatives came to meet us nearly after 40 years of separation. At the same time another close relative in our own family, refusing to accept that reconciliation, kept away. But the tragedy in it is that we all are blood relatives. The person who refuses to accept the others began to dig into the past and made so many complaints. Though that event happened four days before, yet my unconscious mind was thinking deeply about it and that is the reason why that first line came in my mind. However when I wrote the first four stanzas I realized that I am also doing the same thing that I complained others are doing—fault finding. However I am ready to seek forgiveness and reconciliation rather than justifying my fault for finding nature.

Secular Song 355 O my mind
It has no
Time or day
And it won’t
Understand my difficulties
Thinking something
My mind will lament
It won’t have
Any kind of rest
Even while I sleep
It will wake me up
It will say something
Again and again
Even if I
Refuse to listen
Laughing at me
It will ask me to write it down
Not allowing me to live
It will torture me each day
Even if I feel sad
It will argue with me
Sharing its own burden
And lamenting about it
It will convert it
As our burden
There is no hope
To keep away from it
And there is no place
To run and hide
Wherever I go
As my shadow follows me
There is no change
In this truth also
None should have
This kind of trouble
And none should lament
As I do
O blessed one
You should not have
This kind of torture
As I have
Just tell me
What is my mistake?
And where is the means
To escape from this
Leaving this
Giving unnecessary advice
Don’t provoke me
Unnecessarily further
It is enough now
And go to sleep
How much you write
What is the use?
When there is
None to read
Don’t lament
But try to catch your sleep
Mathigiri, 17-8-2017,3.15 am.
There is a flock song by Awaiyar, a famous Tamil poetess that it is very difficult to live with one’s stomach as it never understands the problem which it creates. I can easily replace my mind for the stomach and say the same that it is very difficult to live with my mind. After writing the previous song (355), though I switch off the light and try to catch my sleep, as usual my mind was very busy in reflecting the song which just I wrote. In general I don’t forget the song which I wrote and several times in the day I will recite the lines silently within me. So as I tried to catch my sleep, as I began to recite the song, I become very upset as I deliberately went to sleep. But no use and I couldn’t sleep. Then to rebuking my mind I said, ‘you don’t see time and place and always disturb’. Then to rebuke it further I again put the light and began to write that line as a song. And I need not say further, as the inspiration continued and also as I enjoyed scolding my mind, I wrote this song. But I wrote only six stanzas and was about to switch of the light. Then in response to the sixth stanza I wrote the final one and then switched of the light and tried to catch sleep, but miserably failed. Yes as I cannot sleep, I got up around 4.00 am and continued my work and after meal went to bed at 11.00 am. You are fortunate if you don’t have a mind like that I have.
