BT Song 411

BT Song 411 A secret
This is wonderful one
And a secret which others don’t know
Which came within me and dwells:
A divine bliss
If I sing with tune
He dances taking steps accordingly
If I run towards Him
He hugs me gently
He talks with me gentle laughing
And tease me by touching my body
When I falsely pretend that I become upset
Knowing my intention, He too enjoys it
I don’t want to go away
And there is no means to avoid Him
Once I became His own
Why should I have this false drama? (as if I want to go)
Time is not enough for us
And we cannot finish talking about our love
Once our eyes meet each other
We don’t know how the time has passed
Who will understand my situation?
How much they gossiped
Without understanding the bliss of my bhakti
They are babbling so many things
Can I afraid of the world
Will the world understand this?
Will their foolish talk
Change me accordingly?
16-4-16, 8.05 pm, Mathigiri
This evening when I went for my walk, I was recalling the song which I posted today (Song 373). Then I began to reflect on other such poems in Tamil bhakti traditions in which a bhakta has a variety of options to express her bhakti, as the mythologies help them to relate their bhakti with any one divine leela of the deity. For example, in Uttukaadu Krishnan’s songs one can see varieties of songs in which he will be the Yasoda rebuking child Krishna for all his pranks with gopis. At the same time like Radha he will sing expressing his viraha-bhakti (love in separation). This we can see in Surdas and many other bhakti saints poems. The same one can see all other bhakti saints poems (in all traditions). But when it comes to my bhakti in the Lord, our Scripture puts a great limitation on expressing it spontaneously and naturally using all kinds of genres in Indian tradition. But my spirit refuses to be bound within that ‘Scriptural Limitation’ and soars in its own way to express my bhakti in the Lord. That time, still walking and reflecting on these thoughts, the first few lines spontaneously came in my mind. And when I began to work on my computer after dinner, again these lines which I almost forgot again began to echo in my mind, I wrote this song. Of course this is not the first song that I use this kind of romantic expression of bhakti and won’t be the last one. But as I concluded the poem, I need not fear others’ opinions and change myself accordingly. Let me live what I am and celebrate my bhakti in the Lord as I enjoy it.
But one problem in writing such songs by a single person who claims as a sannyasi will leave lots of speculation in future giving various kinds of interpretation to it. They might even say, as a single person, in order to give expression to his desire for sex he might have written such songs. This is the problem of interpreting about other’s lives without knowing about it completely. Anyhow as I am not the only single person to write such songs of viraha-bhakti I need not worry what others might say about me in some future (if at all anyone reads and tries to interpret in this way. See the song by St John of the Cross quoted in Bhakti Theology Song 393. If they ignore me that will be the greatest seva that they would do for me.)
BT Song 412

BT Song 412 Worship you everyday
Keeping my hands on my head@ (doing Namaskara)
Keeping you in my mind
Celebrating you O Lord
I will rejoice in you
Joy overflowing within me
And body also melting
With abundant bliss
I will sing and dance
What tapasya have I done?
What kind of dharma I followed
Having mercy on me
You redeemed me
I never realized the grace
And I never understood (your) love
Still you came
Seeking after me
What is there for me to do further?
How pay back to you
Realizing my emptiness
I came with much humility
Folding my empty hands
And keeping tears in my ears
I will praise you everyday
Till my tongue get scar
18-4-16, Chennai, 11.40 pm.
As I reached Chennai safely for my nephew’s marriage, lying down on the cot I kept both my hands on my head like doing namaskar (vanakkam) thanking for the safe drive, as I brought my mother with me. Above all we are the only two from my sister’s side to participate in the marriage and also the most senior members of the family. Even a small incident or accident would have spoiled the joy of his marriage. At the same time, unable to bear the heat of Chennai, I become very tired and unable to sleep. I was lying on the coat. That time I began to pray and thank God for all His mercy in my life and wrote this song.
I like the final stanza which came spontaneously when I tried to close the poem. That is the only way we can go to the Lord to express our bhakti.
@ In our Hindu tradition, when we go to the presence of God, we have to keep both our palms together above our head. Each sampradaya will give various explanations to this. When we salute others we can keep our palms together in front of our face or chest.
BT Song 413

BT Song 413 beyond the senses
My eyes have never seen
Your wounded body
My hand never felt
Your rib with scar
My head never touched
The nail pierced feet
My mind never understood
The trouble which you underwent
Yet I understood
The meaning for love
And also learnt
The definition for grace
Along with them realized your
Unparallel dharma
And kept within me
Your noble nature
I need not touch Your wounded body
By my fingers
I need not lament
Understanding your trouble
I need not understand through my intellect
The definition of your love
It is enough for this slave to come unto your feet
To worship only you.
Chennai 12.40 am, 18-4-16 (19-4-16)
Due to extreme heat and also the sound of the train (just behind the house is West Mambalam railway station) I couldn’t sleep for a long time. When I become extremely tired, then I cannot sleep. After wandering on various thoughts I began to concentrate on the Lord. Then I said to Him in Tamil that I have never seen Him through my eyes or felt through my senses. Then continuing on the same theme I wrote this song.
BT Song 414

BT Song 414 Desire
The desire that I have for you
remaining within me
And the desire to have your darshan
Filling me
And to dwell only
In your love
I bow at your feet
To follow your will
I sought too much
For my need
How much I get, still as I have
The maya of desiring more
At the same time
I hesitate to run after them
Therefore I sought
Your mercy
Which one is permanent
In the life which always moves
Which thought remains permanent?
As they constantly changes
Which is the desire?
Which really fulfilled me?
Though I understood this
Which one is going to redeem me?
I should cling to your
Feet which are beyond desires?
I need deliverance
From this fleeting life
You should
Protect me through my bhakti
So that I will never let your feet
Slip away from me
27-4-16, Mathigiri, 2.00 pm
As I bought a few furniture and brought other vessels for our ashram I began to arrange them and plan where to put which cot etc. This thought disturbed my reading. Then I said to myself how my desire and need for material things often becomes a snare to have my regular sadhana and bhakti. That time I wrote this song expressing that feeling to the Lord.

BT Song 415 I should live in you
I don’t know (poetic) grammar
I never studied (poetic) literature much
I don’t know to write down
The thoughts of my heart
I have never seen your face
I never understood you completely
I never worshiped you
With my whole heart
I never come unto your feet with humility
I don’t know how to love you
My bones never melt
Thinking silently about you
I don’t know to do bhakti
My sins are not completely gone
I cannot fathom your nature
That redeemed this sinner?
I become a poor man not having (these) qualities
I become a fool not knowing about you
Not knowing the way for emancipation
I lived as I wished
You forgave me
When I don’t know you
When I sought you
You redeemed me
You encourage me
To come as I am
Once I reached your feet
You enlightened my heart
What else I need to know
Why should I be troubled thinking about other things?
I should live in you
By giving myself to you
