Secular Song 401
Sometimes I become upset on small issues for which others are not responsible. Not knowing the reason, why it comes, I will turn it against others. Then I will imagine so many reasons against them which will make no sense even to me. Though initially they face my wrath, as they manage to escape (hurt or unhurt), then the anger will turn against me and beat me thoroughly. Then like a beaten snake I will remain silent keeping the anger within me.
Secular Sog 401

Secular Song 401beaten snake
I often get
Some kind of anger within me
As my mind is much confused
As I don’t know why it is coming
When I analyzed
On whom I got anger
Finally, it is only on me
Now it is very clear to me.
But it will begin
Only with others
For that, my mind will
Give so many reasons.
Then unnecessary thoughts
Will come following it
Imagining so many things (against them)
It will fly high in the sky
Not realizing this when
Others come before me
My heart will become devilish
And their condition will become poor one
Somehow, they managed to escape
As there is no alternative
The anger will turn back against me
And will beat me thoroughly.
Unable to do anything
Thoroughly beaten by it
I will keep quite like a beaten snake
Unable to bear the pain.

Secular Song 402
I don’t know whether it is my temperament or longing or mere imagination. I am a chattering box, though I long to have a life of recluse. Of course, I don’t go much outside and never interact with many people, but as I read and think a lot, I constantly feel that I engage with many people. And when I sit quietly before retiring to bed, the few seconds that I try to spend to remain calm gives some kind of immense bliss and I always want to have this kind of life where I can go back into my own world and live there silently. As I enjoyed these blissful moments for a few seconds, I wrote this song expressing that longing.
Secular Song 402 தனிமையைத் தேடி
ஒருவித அமைதி
உள்ளம் தேடுது
ஒதுங்கி வாழ்ந்திட
மனமே தூண்டுது
இடையிலே வந்து
இடையிலே போகும்
பிறரோடு போராட
மனதுமே தயங்குது
பிறரோடு பிறந்தும்
பலரோடு வாழ்ந்தும்
ஒருவிதத் தனிமை
அனைவருக்கும் உண்டு
எவரெதை நாடுவார்
என்பதில் இருந்து
அவரவர் தேவை
தெளிவாகத் தோன்றும்
கூட்டத்தின் மத்தியில்
கூடியே நின்றால்
நாட்டமெல்லாம் மனதில்
தனிமையை நோக்கும்
ஏற்ற நேரம்
வருகின்றபோது
ஓட்டமாய் ஓடி
ஒதுங்கி கொள்ளும்
பேச்சைக் குறைத்து
புலம்பலை தவிர்த்து
ஆழ்ந்த மனதினுள்
அமைதியைத் தேடும்
எப்போது எவ்விதம்
அது கிடைத்தாலும்
அதனுள்ளே மூழ்கி
ஆனந்தம் கொள்ளும்

Secular Song 402 Longing for solitude
My heart is longing for
Some kind of calmness
And the mind also
Urges me to live a life of recluse
And the heart hesitates
To struggle with others
Who comes in between?
And leaves in the middle
Though we born with others
And live with others
Some kind of loneliness is
Common for all
Who is longing
For which
Clearly will show
Each person’s need
When stand amidst
In a crowd
The heart will always
Long to be alone
When the right
Opportunity comes
It will run and
Keep away from others.
Reducing the talking
And stopping lamenting
It will seek deep within
That peace
When it is available
In whichever form
It will drown in it
And rejoice

Secular Song 403
The best time for me in a day is a few minutes (sometimes only a few seconds) that I try to remain quiet either contemplating something or reflecting on the activities of the day or even try to calm my mind, not allowing myself to think anything (but that itself becomes another activity). Of course as long as we remain conscious it is impossible for us to remain inactive.@ But the inner calmness which the Siddha tradition calls as ‘Sombar’ (idleness, which is a wrong translation of this Tamil word in that context). But once we try to create a world within us where we try to remain calm, then that few seconds is a joyful experience from which we don’t want to come out or don’t allow others to enter. To understand this, I often point out the few seconds or minutes one loves to lie down after waking up after a good sleep. More than a good rest, the few seconds of that laziness and longing to remain on the bed to relax is the best luxury for many. And naturally one gets irritated if she has to get up from the bed or disturbed by others.
@ It has been rightly observed by Stuart Hampshire that action is attributable to a human being only as long as and throughout the period that he is conscious. It is a necessary truth—and one of the most important truisms about human beings—that if a man has been fully conscious for some time, there must be some verbs of action that truthfully summarise what he has been doing during that time. The verbs of action may represent him as doing something desultory, purposeless and inactive. The mode of performance may vary through many degrees: but if conscious, then necessarily performing, and if unconscious, necessarily not performing, in the sense that no action is attributable to an unconscious man as its agent….A more decisive difference between consciousness and unconsciousness lies between the necessity of intended action in the one case and of a mere natural movement without intention in the other.{Stuart Hampshire, Thought and Action, London, Chatto and Windus, 1959, pp. 93-94}—quoted by S. Paul Kashap, in ‘REFLECTIONS ON THE CONCEPT OF ACTION IN THE GITA’, in Bimal Krishna Matilal, ed, Moral Dilemmas in the Mahabharata, Indian Institute of Advanced Study Rashtrapati Niwas, Shimla, in association with Motilal Banarsidass Publishers, Delhi, (1989) 2nd Reprint, 2014, Pp. 116-128, p. 125. In fact the entire chapter by Kashap is worth reading to understand this point relating to Gita about Action.
Secular Song 403 என் உலகம்
எனக்கொரு உலகம்
எனக்குள்ளே படைத்தேன்
என்னோடு அதனுள்
தனித்தே இருந்தேன்
ஆதியில் வாழ்ந்த
மனிதனைப் போல
அதனுள் தனித்து
அமைதியாய் இருந்தேன்
சிந்தைக்கு அங்கே
வேலையே இல்லை
சிந்திக்கத் தேவை
ஏதுமே இல்லை
சிந்திக்கத் தேவை
வந்தும் கூட
சிந்திக்க மனதுக்கு
விருப்பமே இல்லை
சும்மா இருக்கும்
சுகத்தை அடைந்தேன்
சுற்றி உள்ள
சூழ்நிலை மறந்தேன்
மற்றவர் வந்து
எட்டியே பார்க்க
சட்டென எனக்குள்
நானே மறைந்தேன்
சொன்னால் அந்த
சுகம் புரியாது
பிறர்அதை நமக்குத்
தர இயலாது
நாமே அதனை
விரும்பியே படைக்க
தடுக்க எவருக்கும்
திறன் கிடையாது
ஒருமுறை அந்த
உலகைப் படைத்தால்
வெளியே வர
மனமிருக்காது
ஒருமுறை நீயும்
முயன்று பாரு
பின்னால் அதுபற்றி
பிறருக்குக் கூறு

Secular Song 403 My World
I created my own world
Within me
And I lived in it
All alone
Like the first man
Who lived alone?
I too remained in it
Peacefully
There is need
For us to think there
And no opportunity
Comes to think there
Even when
Opportunity came to think
The heart never
Desires to think
I enjoyed the joy
Of remaining calm
And I forgot
My own surrounding
When others
Came to see
I hide suddenly
Within me
You won’t understand
That joy
And others cannot
Give it to us
Once we have
Decided to create it
None has the
Capacity to stop it.
Once that
World is created
The heart will
Never desire to come out from it
You too
Try to create that world
Then you proclaim
About it to others

Secular Song 404
Again, my favourite topic is carrying the burden and not running away from our responsibilities. Based on my life’s experience, I realized that till the end of life we cannot run away both from responsibility and burden. But if we do it with clear understanding and accepting it, then the burden won’t become hard to carry. On the other hand, if we carry it with a grudging spirit the burden will increase. Anyhow there are some unnecessary responsibilities which are imposed on us, which we have accepted in a particular context. But when the time goes and other responsibilities become a priority, then those unnecessary responsibilities really become a burden. Then we have to act wisely giving priority considering our present context in life (age, health etc.) Anyhow as I want to end this serious topic with a light note, I added the last two stanzas as joke—to carry this responsibility with a light spirit
Secular Song 404 என் பாரம்
எதுதான் பாரமாய்
உலகினில் இல்லை
எவர்தான் தொல்லை
தருவது இல்லை
நாமே நமக்கு
பாரமாய் இல்லையா
நமக்கு நாமே
தொல்லையாய் இல்லையா
பிறந்தது முதலே
பூமிக்குப் பாரம்
வளரும் போதும்
சோத்துக்கு பாரம்
வாழும் போதும்
உலகிற்குப் பாரம்
போன பின்னாலும்
பிறருக்கு பாரம்
இதற்கு இடையில்
வாழும் போது
பலவித சுமைகள்
தன்போல் வருது
விரும்பியே சுமக்கினும்
வெறுத்தே மறுக்கினும்
தப்பிக்கும் வழிதான்
இங்கே காணோம்
அலுப்புடன் சுமந்தால்
அதிகமாய்ப் போகும்
அமைதியாய்ச் சுமந்தால்
இலகுவாய் மாறும்
எப்படி சுமப்பது
என்பதுன் பொறுப்பு
எனமட்டும் சொல்வது
எனக்குள்ள பாரம்
எப்படியோ இந்த
பாரத்தை இறக்கி
எளிதாய்த் தூக்கிப்
பிறர்மேல் வைத்தேன்
அடுத்தவர் படித்தால்
அவருக்குப் போகும்
அதுவரை என்மேல்
தொடர்ந்தே இருக்கும்
ஒருமுறை படித்து
உதவியும் செய்தால்
இனியொரு பாடல்
இதுபோல் எழுதி
வீணாய் உமது
கோபத்தை கிளறேன்
மறுத்தால் மீண்டும்
இதுபோல் எழுதுவேன்

Secular Song 404 My burden
Which one is
Not remain a burden (to us)
Who is not there?
Not troubling us?
Are we not
Become a burden unto us
Are we not giving?
Trouble to us
Since we born
Become a burden to the earth
When we grow up
Become a burden to food
When we live
Become a burden to the world
Once we have gone
Become a burden to others
Meanwhile
When we live
So many burdens are
Coming on their own
Whether we carry them
Voluntarily or with much hate
There is no means
To escape from them
If we carry it with much hesitation
Only the burden gets increased
And if we carry it calmly
The burden comes light
To tell how you are going to carry it
Is my responsibility
How you are going to carry
Is your responsibility
Somehow, I
Managed to unload
This burden
Upon others easily
If others read this
The burden will go them
Till that time
It will be on me alone
If you read it once
And help me
Then I won’t write
Another song like this
If you refuse (to read)
To provoke
Your anger
I will write one like this again.

Secular Song 505
As a sannyasi I want to hide from the world. But my mind and heart are the culprits which disclose to others. As long as we have a mind and heart it is impossible to hide from anyone—even from ourselves.
Secular Song 405

Secular Song 405 No chance
Though we try to escape to hide
The world is not ready to allow us to do so
It won’t let us live in peace till
It search to find us to give trouble
We may have thousands of reasons to hide
But where is the time for others to understand it
As their own needs press them
They might come searching after us
Even if we manage to find a place to hide
Our own mind will betray us
As it have thousands of needs of its own
What is the use of hiding physically?
As long as we have a mind
There is no point in hiding physically
Even though the mind would like to hide
There is no place for it to do so
Before others come and find us
Our mind will go ahead of them
By its own activity it will show our hiding place
And will laugh at us joining others
Once we came to this world
There is no place to hide anywhere
As long as we have a mind
There is no chance for that
