BT Song 461
These days I began to go for a fifteen or twenty minutes walk around 11.00 pm in the hall. That time I tried to not think much. Even if any thought begins to flow, I will try to control it and begin to concentrate on the Lord to think and worship Him. As I was doing this night also, again and again the same thought came to me about how much time I take to analyse my life regularly. Then I said to myself, ‘what is the use? Even if it takes time to analyse, within a few seconds my mind began to wander everywhere, not allowing me to analyse my life properly. So, there is no point in doing that too.’ Then time as inspiration came, I began to write this poem in my mind, resisting the temptation not to write one more poem again, lamenting about me. Finally, I have to give up as the words continue to flow in my mind and begin to pressure me to write them down. But after writing three stanzas I really became upset with the Lord and began to blame Him. That time my mood completely changed and quickly I wrote the next three stanzas (4-6) to vent out my anger against the Lord. After writing them, I sat quietly for a few more seconds. Then tears began to come and I silently cried. Then with tears I wrote the next stanza. (7). After writing that stanza (7), I felt my burden went away and I felt very light in my heart. Then I thought, is it possible for me to convey this experience in words or is there any need to share it with others. As this thought came, I closed this poem with stanza 8.
BT Song 461

BT Song 461 I sob
Where to spare some time for me
To analyse myself properly
Even though I assign few minutes for that
Thousands of thoughts arise amidst it
Encouraging myself that
There is no point in it
Finally, I came unto you
To ask you about me
I sat silently thinking
From where can I begin?
As so many questions began to arise
Again, I become tired with much confusion
Even though you know well about my condition
Yet you also remained silence
Unable to understand the reason for your silence
I become upset even with you
“Why you created me unnecessarily
What do you expect by redeeming me
How far it can be justified
As you remain in silence like this
Don’t laugh at me seeing my anger
And don’t provoke me more and more
Does my condition become a thamasha for you?
And has it become a routine for you”?
As words refuse to come further
I fall at His feet sobbing much
And He too kept quiet till I complete my crying
And He sat silently with me
What then happened?
I don’t have words to share that
And there came no need for me
Further to analyse me again

BT Song 462
As I read the following Surdas song@, as the inspiration came, I wrote this song immediately. I wonder what if someone reads some of my songs like these. They might think that, ‘being a single man, that too calling as a sannyasi, why did he write such songs? Does he really miss romance in his life? Could it be another reason for writing such songs?’
But the reason for writing such songs with romantic notes is not that I miss romance in my life. Those who write poems will agree with me that we don’t know when the inspiration will come and which form. If we forget to note down the first sentence or words, soon that inspiration also will disappear. So, when I read such songs or thought, if I get inspiration then I immediately write these kinds of songs.
Every inspiration need not be part of our experience or life. Others’ life and thoughts (including their experience) can give such inspiration. So many of my songs, including this one, are part of that inspiration and not part of my life.
@ I thought, my friend, that Hari had come,
but then I awoke and lamented, my friend.
Believe me, since then my body has been tossing
Like a fish out of water—on the shore, my friend.
Friend, my fine frame burns with the fever of longing.
It takes many tries to bring it to life, my friend.
What am I to do? I’ve gone down the wrong road.
My sorrows are rising; my trouble, doubled, friend.
So I’ve written all this news and sent it with a traveller—
The tortured mutterings of longing, my friend:
“Lord of Surdas, unless I somehow see you,
how will this harshness end?”—my friend.—Sur’s Ocean, eds. Kenneth E Bryant, trs. By John Stratton Hawley, Massachusetts, Murty Classical Library of India, Harvard University Press, song 367-68, pp. 367-68
BT Song 462

BT Song 462 He also is the remedy/medicine
I am troubled as I cannot see him any more
I am deluded with deep sore in my eyes
I expected his arrival keeping a watch on the way
I lament as the love-in-separation (viraham) increases
Is there any other remedy/medicine other than him for my sickness?
Will my passion go away without him?
Who will go and tell about me to him
Does nobody have pity on me anymore?
From the day I was redeemed I belong to him
I forgot about me as I gave myself to him
I don’t know any other relationship other than him
I constantly thinking only about him not minding about my needs
Knowing my bhakti alone he accepted me
He rejoiced in my seva to him
But he become upset with me
Because of the small small fights (udal) that we had
I have no one to send as my messenger to him
I don’t have any words to convey my sorrows
My pain won’t go without him
And other than him, others won’t understand this

BT Song 463
After writing the previous song (462), I continued my reading. After completing the reading, when I recalled that song (462), I thought how the same thought can be communicated as a bhakti bhava. As I began to think about it, as the inspiration came, I wrote this song.
BT Song 463 I will wait for him
What kind of defects He has seen in my love
Did I ever make any complaint against Him?
Though He dwells within me completely
What is the reason for the delay in His arrival when I thought about Him?
There is no reason for Him not knowing my heart
He also knows about my sorrow
Yet it is not correct on His part to delay like this
There is no other refuge other than Him to this slave
Is there any mother who does not have compassion when listening to the cry of her baby?
Is there any king who does not protect his subjects?
Is there any God who does not have mercy upon His Bhaktas?
Did you ever hear about a redeemer who never has compassion upon a sinner?
Taking pity on me alone He redeemed me
Knowing my heart alone He came to over lord me
He accept me tolerating all my shortcomings
There is no point of accusing me, He knows that too
Yet He stands away from me
He refuses to come even though I lament
He knows that I don’t have a life without Him
Yet He makes delay to come unto me
Though I lament saying so many things
He has His own reason for that
As I know that I am comforted
And waited for His coming
Mathigiri, 7-7-16, 2.50 pm.
Actually I wrote the first stanza of this song on 7th night, as I was thinking about the two songs which I wrote that afternoon. The two kinds of expressions of bhakti made me think more about the grace and love of God in my life. Then I wrote the first four lines. As further words refused to flow, I closed it and went to bed. Then this night after my night walk, I recalled about it, then I completed this poem. But I struggled a lot to close the song. Then I closed the song without completing it. But when I was about to retire to bed, then I thought ‘how nice it will be if the Lord takes me now with such thought on Him’. As the inspiration suddenly came, I closed this song with it as the final stanza.
BT Song 464

BT Song 464 It is acceptable to me
Tears came when I thought about His compassion
Feel good when think about His love
The entire body melted thinking about His mercy
And I rejoiced thinking about His grace
Once He came and began to dwell within me
My entire thought is occupied thinking about Him
As the very thought of ‘mine’ has gone
He also got an opportunity to live through me
As His holy feet touched this slave’s head
I got the interest to do His seva
When His holy hands touched my body
Some divine bliss began to flow within me
His Veda become the foundation for my bhakti
And I got the wisdom to know His will
As He helped me to join with other bhaktas
My spirit filled as I got the opportunity to sing His praise (along with them)
Where else is the bliss other than this
And this poor one’s life is filled with His grace
And my tongue also got the blessed opportunity to talk about this
And I got the boon to write and sing this
Though my life might come to an end this very day
It is enough for me if He receives me with Him
But if He asks me to live continuously after this
That too is acceptable to me if that is His will
Mathigiri, 8-7-16, 11.20 pm.
BT Song 465
I wrote this song thinking about all that the Lord gave in our lives.
BT Song 465

BT Song 465 What is there to ask?
He created this word
For me to rule
He gave me a life
For Him to rule
He came and redeemed me
For me to be emancipated
He choose me
For me to serve
He gave thoughts
For me to think
He gave me a heart
For me to worship
He gave me bhakti
For me to get mukti
He gave me mind
For me to sing His glory
He gave love
For Him to rule
He gave grace
For me to live
He had mercy
To protect me
He gave character
For me to obey
After giving
All these
He gave Himself
To live within me
The One who
Never requires anything
Once become my God
What is there for me to ask (further)?
