BT Song 481 to 485

BT Song 481

I felt some kind of emptiness within me. This is not depression but some kind of dryness.  I cannot even read or pray. Then stopping my writing, I sat silently trying to think of nothing.  Then my mind began to wander on various thoughts.  Finally, I thanked God for giving me this opportunity to sit alone with Him and pour out my heart. That time tears came and I wrote this song. For some it looks like I have some psychological problem; for some it might be mere emotional feeling; others might consider this a mystic experience and for others it is nothing but my nature (prakriti).  But I don’t know what it is.

BT Song 481

BT Song481 Leave me alone

Until I rest in you

My heart won’t realize the peace

Until I tell this

I cannot find comfort within me

Something is disturbing my heart

I am bewildered unable to understand that

How many times I try to analyze it

Something is missing from my hand

I tried to remain in silent

Stopped even analysing

I postponed coming unto you

And locked my heart within me

Thinking that it is better to remain like this

I immersed within me

But as I found an emptiness even there

Seeking peace, I came at your feet

I want to ask something to you

Unable to understand I come unto you

Unable to utter I sob within me

And fall at your feet unable to do anything

It is better, kindly leave me alone

And stop wrestling with me unnecessarily

More than this how I can say to you

And kindly do this help now

BT Song 482

This song is actually a continuation of the previous song.  I began to type that song (481) in which in the last stanza I begged the Lord to leave me alone and not to disturb me anymore.  As I completed typing that stanza, further said to Him what my present requirement is. As inspiration continues to flow, I immediately wrote this song in the morning which I completed in the afternoon.  Recalling not only the past life but the way He redeemed me makes me cry several times in my life.  I find some comfort in it rather than brushing aside whether it is mere emotional or psychological one.

BT Song 482

BT Song 482 I should cry

I should cry by remaining alone

I should sob forgetting me

I should come and find rest in you

And I need your grace to share all about me

Though I born and grew up for you

I lived without knowing you in my heart

I wandered searching for the need of the body

And I lived a vain life without you

Though I ran for material things and fame

I lost my peace in this meaningless life

Both the lust and desire began to attack me forcefully

I lost my mind in this worldly life

A kind of emptiness troubled my heart

I ran finding answer in so many ways

And I was strandared thinking that

Till the end I won’t get it

My mind was frozen along with my body

My life stood still along with them

Once I went to the end of depression

I was bewildered not finding any answer

I should recall those days again

Should remember the pain of them

And thinking the way you redeemed me

I should cry with a melted heart.

BT Song 483

As I was reflecting on my response to bhakti and romance, I wrote this song.

Emotion is a beautiful gift from God. Without emotion life becomes meaningless. Of course, there is always a danger in going overboard in anything. But not giving any importance to emotion that is expressed through various forms and art, life becomes meaningless.

…Narada’s Sangitamakaranda (between 700 and 1100) introduced a classification into male, female and neuter ragas.  This classification is based on the attribution of the ragas to the rasas.  Those producing the vira, adbhuta and raudra rasas are male, those producing the srngara, hasya and karuna rasas are female, and those producing the bibhatsa, bhayanaka and santa rasas are neuter (Koch, Lars-Christian, Zur Bedeutung der Rasa-Lehre fur die zeitgenossische nordindische Kunstmusik.  Mit einem Vergleich mit der Affektenlehre des 17. & 18.  Jahrhunderts.  Bonn: Holos Verlag. 1995:30-31).  In the same text the ragas are also assigned to different seasons and times of the day (Koch 1995:32, n. 15)….— Early Tamil poetics between Natyasastra and Ragamala.  Herman Tieken. Pp.69-91, in, Whitney Cox and Vincenzo Vergiani, (ed)Bilingual Discourse and Cross-Cultural Fertilisation: Sanskrti and Tamil in Medieval India,  Pondichery, Institut Francais De Pondichery Ecole Francaise D’extreme-Orient, 2013,  p. 81

…There are nine kinds of emotions: wonder adbhuta), terror (bhaya), disgust (bibhatsa), humour (sasya),  pathos (karuna), anger (rudra), love (shringara), heroism (vira) and peace (shanta)….– Pavan K Varma,Being Indian, New Delhi, Penguin Books, 2004. p.109

BT Song 483

BT Song 483 Relationship and emotion

There is no life in any relationship without emotion

Without relationship emotion has no meaning

What is the use of living like a dead body?

What is the use of having a relationship without any emotion?

He created us with body and life with emotion

He gave a heart to experience it

He arranged so many rasas (mood) with it

And He gave them all for us to live in this world

He kept an order in nature

For the creation to multiply

Those who realized and lived naturally

Enjoyed their life on earth

They created many arts to

Make this life more colourful

And celebrating it with nine kinds of rasas (tastes)

They gave a form to the emotion through them

Is there any meaning in this life without having any rasas (tastes?)

Is there any life which does not experience these rasas?

Is there any life to these rasas without emotion?

And is there any purpose in living without knowing this?

BT Song 484

As I continue to reflect on my recent response on Bhakti and romance, I wrote this song in the night.

BT Song 484

BT Song 484 Without you I am no more

Becoming the sense in my heart

And core to my thought

And becoming fullness of my life

You live with me

There is no lack of grace

And no end to your love

There is no other protection

Other than your compassion

There is no separation between us

And no shortage in our relationship

Once I lived with you

I don’t have a life without you

Nothing to say more

I don’t need anything more

I don’t have joy

Other than singing about you

I don’t have nobleness

Other than bhakti

There is no protection other than you

For the bhaktas

You are the final resort

For mukti

O Muktesa

Without you I am no more

BT Song 485

As I was listening to a Purandaradasa song (in Kannada), which I cannot follow completely, but understood the word, what kind of merit that we have done.  Then inspired by that song I wrote this.

BT Song 485

BT 485 Who will receive

What kind of punya (merit) we have done

You came down having pity upon us

We try to live not realizing this

Kindly forgive our (this) error

Will we say that this is because of our past karma?

Or the three snares@ are come and attack us

Will we hesitate once we come near to you?

Will we lose your grace once we receive it?

Lord forgive the past in which we never know you

Accept us by forgiving as we have done so many things knowingly

Give us wisdom as we live without understanding

Removing all kinds of karmas and take us with you

We will receive only your merit which you have earned for us

We know only the forgiveness which you gave

We will wear only your righteousness (dharma)

And we will rejoice by saying that we are your bhaktas

Those who received this noble status will realize this

Who else can receive your grace other than us?

Only those who humble themselves alone

Will receive your merit (punya) O noble one!
