The importance of human touch, which Dr. Brand explained beautifully using his medical knowledge and experience, impressed me. He writes:
I have sometimes wondered why Jesus so frequently touched the people he healed, many of whom must have been unattractive, obviously diseased, unsanitary, smelly. With his power, he easily could have waved a magic wand. In fact, a wand would have reached more people than a touch. He could have divided the crowd into affinity groups and organized his miracles – paralyzed people over there, feverish people here, people with leprosy there – raising his hands to heal each group efficiently, en masse. But he chose not to. Jesus’ mission was not chiefly a crusade against disease (if so, why did he leave so many unhealed in the world and tell followers to hush up details of healings?), but rather a ministry to individual people, some of whom happened to have a disease. He wanted those people, one by one, to feel his love and warmth and his full identification with them. We cannot rule others through our intellect
We cannot win only through authority
If we remain adamant there is no use

You touched the blind and gave vision
You showed mercy to the lepers
Allowing touching your cloth

The lack of proper sleep made me feel very tired. I couldn’t concentrate on any work properly. So this afternoon when I cannot concentrate much on my reading, I wrote this song expressing my thoughts as prayer.

He asks to be His hands and legs
And asked us to show God to this world
He asked us to get united (in Him)
And He expected us to do it with a spirit of unity
Fortunately He is not here (on this earth)
And He is not living amidst as an Icon
He changed us as His icon
And He showed His darshan (vision) to this world
We need not perform any tapasya (austerity)
In order to get this blessed status
It is enough for us to live
Each day as a member of His body
We need not count our shortcomings
And we need not say that it is not possible for us
Once we do our part (as the member of His body)
Rest He will do as his share
And if we think that
Who are those who got this privilege?
Only those true bhaktas who can tell that
“It is no more I but He lives in me”

The beauty of bhakti is that it helps a bhakta to feel at home with the Lord. We need not absorb any formality. As we have our inherited freedom in our home, we can have access with the Lord that too in our own terms. I celebrate that kind of bhakti in the Lord each day of my life.
