Secular song 531
Let me make it very clear. I am not against any celebration. In fact I also celebrate several festivals and events in life, particularly in order to make others happy. But still I cannot understand the so-called “New Year Celebration”. Of course one New Calendar year has come which we cannot deny. But it is only to count the days and time for official and personal use. There is nothing to celebrate in it. At the same time if others want to celebrate, I am not against it. But I never celebrate this so-called Calendar year as New Year. If some send me their New Year greetings, in response I write: Happy Calendar New Year. And when one person asked, “Which is the actual New Year? I wrote: Ugadi for Kanadiga and Telugu people, Chittirai for Tamilians, Visu for Malayali etc. In India, even these so-called New Years are the mark of changing seasons and movement of the Sun from one orbit to another. In the west and other westernized countries as it becomes part of their (recent) tradition, I understand it. I am not sure whether it is related to any change of season, for example from winter to Spring? But the cold continues even after New Year shows that this is not true. But in spite of the forest fires in Australia, the way they created more pollution in Sydney by celebrating the New Year with lots of fireworks is a bit too much for me. They will say that as resilient Sydnians they want to show to the world that no tragedy can stop them celebrating such events. This reminds me of an old proverb that when the Roam was burning Nero played his harp. There are many other ways to celebrate the same New Year without adding more pollution to the environment. Well, all have their right to do anything and I have my right to register my view as well.

Secular Song 531 Time won’t change
One year has gone
Another year has come
But the beauty in this is that
We don’t find any change in this
They welcomed it by giving greetings
As usual they played crackers
Joining together they conducted parties
And wasted their time in vain
In this we cannot blame them
As they become tired of the routine life
They celebrated like this
Thinking how they can bring some change in it
When we change the dates
Which we created only to calculate the days
Which one has gone—I cannot understand
Which one has come as NEW—still it is not clear to me
Not thinking about them
Those simple and poor people
Who lives their life as usual?
Alone know how to live the life properly
This New Year
Which never came before the white people came (to India)
Still continue to come (to us)
Even though he has gone (from our country)
Mornings and evenings won’t change
Time also won’t move
They will remain as before
They will continue even after we have gone
Realizing this clearly
Understanding the nature of Time
Celebrating which are essential
We should try to live meaningfully in life

Secular Song 532
One young man arranged a victory procession to welcome his father as he won in the recently held Panchayat (local body) elections in his area ward. Due to over excitement as he was dancing with much vigour he collapsed in the procession and died on the spot because of a heart attack. In another place one candidate who won the election, unable to accept his victory, died the next day. When such news came, I felt very sorry for them. Then I told the Tamil proverb: கைக்கு எட்டியும் வாய்க்கு எட்டல which is: There is a slip between the cup and lips. That night when I was thinking about them, I wrote this song.
Secular Song 532 கைக்கு எட்டியது
என்னதான் கைக்கு
எட்டிய போதும்
இறுதியில் வாய்க்குள்
போகத்தான் காணோம்
இதுபோல் வாழ்வில்
நடந்திடும் பலவும்
ஆயினும் நாமதை
ஏற்கத்தான் காணோம்
நிரந்தரம் என்றும்
நினத்திட்ட எதுவும்
ஒருநாள் கைவிட்டு
சென்றுதான் தீரும்
இந்த உண்மை
புரிந்த போதும்
ஏற்கின்ற மனதுதான்
வந்திடக் காணோம்
நிலையில்லா உலகில்
நிரந்தரம் என்று
ஏதுமே இல்லை
புரிய வேண்டும்
அதனை ஏற்று
அமைந்திடும் வாழ்வை
அமைதியாக நாம்
ஏற்றிட வேண்டும்
அந்த வாழ்வை
அனுதினம் வாழ்ந்து
அதில் நிறைவு
கண்டிட வேண்டும்
போனதை எண்ணி
புலம்பி விடாமல்
வருவதை எண்ணி
கலங்கி விடாமல்
அனுதின வாழப்
பழகிடும் போது
கைக்குள் வந்தது
வாய்க்குள் போகும்

Secular Song 532 A slip between the cup and the lips
In which way the food
Reached on our hand
Finally, it
Does not go in our mouth
Like this many things
Will happen in our life
But only we are
Not ready to accept them
All that we thought
Are permanent
Will go one day
From our hands
Though we understood
This truth well
Only we lack the heart
To accept it
We should know that
In this unstable world
There is nothing
That will remain permanently
Accepting that
Whichever life we got
We should
Accept that peacefully
Living that life
In everyday life
We should see
Satisfaction in it
Not lamenting
That went in the past
And not troubled
Thinking which might come
When we learn
To live each day as it comes
Food that reached on our hand
Will also go in our mouth

Secular Song 533
I once read somewhere that there are four sections in our life about self-understanding. The first part is that we know about ourselves; second, we know and others also know about us; third we don’t know but others know about us and the fourth—nobody knows about us. So there is no use in telling people that ‘others do not understand me’. When we do not understand 50% understood about us, how others are going to understand us? All our attempts to help others to understand us are not going to help them to understand us. Better to live with peace that it is good that nobody understands us—including us.
Secular Song 533 நீ புரிந்திடு
புரியாமல் இருந்தால்
புரிய வைத்து
புரிய மறுத்தால்
ஒதுங்கி நின்றுடு
எல்லோரும் புரிய
அவசியம் இல்லை
என்பதை உணர்ந்து
அமைதியும் காத்திடு
எப்படி முயன்றாலும்
முழுவதும் புரிவது
எவருக்கும் இயலாது
என்பதை உணர்ந்திடு
தன்னை முழுதாய்
புரிந்தவர் இல்லையே
என்கிற உண்மையை
நீயும் ஏற்றிடு
தன்னை முழுதாய்
புரியா மனிதன்
மற்றவர் புரிந்திட
உதவிட முடியாது
ஆகவே மற்றவர்
புரிந்தது எல்லாம்
அரைகுறை என்பதை
நீயும் புரிந்திடு
அதற்கு காரணம்
அவரும் இல்லை
அதையே நீயும்
முதலில் அறிந்திடு
புரியாத நீயும்
புரிந்திட வைத்தால்
எப்படிப் புரிவார்
என்பதை உணர்ந்து
புரியாத வரையில்
நலமென எண்ணி
புரிந்ததை மறந்தது
புரியாமல் வாழ்ந்திடு

Secular Song 533 You better understand
If others do not understand you
Try to help them to understand
If they refuse to understand
Better keep away from them
There is no need
For everyone to understand
Realizing this
You better keep silent
How much one tries
Complete understanding
Is not possible for all
Remember this well
There is none
Who has understood oneself completely?
You better
Accept this truth
A person
Who does not understand himself completely?
Cannot help
Others to understand him
Therefore, realize that
All that others understood about you
Is only
Incomplete one
You first
Realize that
They are not
Responsible for this
Realizing that
Help others to understand you
As you yourself have
Not understood you properly
It is good that
Others don’t understand you
Forgetting what you have understood about you so far
Continue to live without any understanding

Secular Song 534
Suddenly I became very lazy. At the same time, I cannot avoid certain essential works to survive. My time with the computer came down drastically. Hardly had I spent an hour with my computer and I am very happy about it. Similarly, I rarely open my smart phone and I spend only 10 minute with it each day. Similarly my reading time has also come down. Even if I cannot sleep, I lay down on my bed in the afternoon unable to get up to either read or to do any work on the computer. Then I excuse by saying that even this laziness is another kind of therapy to give rest both to the body and mind. Body takes its own rest, refusing to cooperate with us. But the way our mind takes rest is through laziness. That is why the word ‘sombar’ in Tamil Siddha tradition is not mere laziness but going to the stage beyond ‘turiyata’ the fourth stage of our conscious life. As I already shared about it in Secular Song 403, I don’t want to repeat it here.
Secular Song 534

Secular Song 534 Lazy therapy
Some kind of laziness
Has come in my mind
My body also
Joined t
My heart also
Seeks some kind of solace in it
It seeks some reason
For that
How many reasons
We might seek
We cannot find
For it
Even all the reasons
Which we try to give
Is not remain
Correct even for us
Should we say that?
It is a kind of therapy
Or is it the means
The body seeks rest
Or should we say that
It is the symptom of old age
Or is it the symptom
About the tiredness of our mind
Whichever one it might be
Once we become old
We don’t need any kind of
Explanation for that
Whether it is tiredness or laziness
Or the tiredness of old age
There is no alternative
For that
Giving rest to
Both to the body and mind
Remaining silent
And spending the life
Thinking that
Enough we have toiled
Laziness is the symptom
Seeking rest

Secular Song 535 எப்படி வாழ்வது
எல்லோர்க்கும் ஏற்கும்
வாழ்க்கை வாழ்வது
இயலாது என்பதை
நீயுமே உணர்ந்து
உனக்குள்ள வாழ்வினை
நீயுமே வாழ்ந்திடு
முடிந்தால் பிறருக்கு
உதவியும் செய்திடு
வாழ்வினை எப்படி
வாழணும் என்பதில்
ஆயிரம் கருத்து
அவனியில் உள்ளது
தன் வாழ்வைப்பற்றி
தனக்குள்ள கருத்தில்
வாழ முடியாது
தாவித்திடும் போது
பிறர்வாழ்வு எப்படி
இருக்கணும் என்று
எவர்தான் இங்கு
தீர்மானம் செய்வது
ஆயினும் பிறர்கூறும்
அறிவுரை ஏற்காமல்
தன்போக்கில் வாழ்வது
என்பதும் இயலாது
பிறர்கூறும் அறிவுரை
எதற்காக என்பதை
சரியாக நாமும்
ஆராய்ந்து பார்த்து
எவருக்கும் பாதிப்பு
இலாத ஒன்றாக
இருந்தால் அதையும்
ஏற்றுமே வாழ்வது
நமக்கும் நல்லது
நம்மோடு வாழும்
பிறருக்கும் நல்லது
என்பதை ஏற்று
முடிந்த வரையில்
பிறருக்கு பாதிப்பு
இல்லாமல் வாழ்வதே
அனைவர்க்கும் நல்லது

Secular Song 535 How can we live?
Realizing that
One can live
A life which is
Acceptable to everyone
You live
Your life
If possible
Help others
There are thousands of
Opinions about
How to live
The life on this earth
When one struggles
Unable to live
The life
Which one lives?
Who can decide?
About other’s life
That how they
Should live it
At the same time
It is not possible
One to live
Not listening to other’s advice
Why others are
Giving advice to us
Analysing it
Properly
If it is not
Affecting anyone
Then accepting it
And living
Is good for us
Also for
Those who live with us
And accepting this decision
As much as possible
Live the life
That is not giving trouble to others
Is good for all
