As I sat for my meditation and prayer, I reflected the relationship that a bhakta has with the Lord. Though we often use human terms to express our relationship with the Lord as He is our Father, Mother, Brother, Friend, Companion and even Lover, yet real mysticism defies all these terms and goes beyond it to enjoy a particular divine relationship which cannot be expressed by any human terms. All the mystics attempted and failed in it. At the same time mysticism is not a secret and esoteric experience but it is within the reach of every bhakta, provided if she is ready to go beyond the human terms to enjoy it.

நானிதைச் சொலிட அவசியம் ஏது
நமக்குள்ளே வேறு ரகசியம் ஏது
உனதென ஆனபின் எனக்கினி இங்கு
உள்ளமும் தனியாக வேறொன்றும் ஏது
இதுவென்ன புரிகின்ற உறவா கூற
எவ்வித மொழி கொண்டு எடுத்துச் சொல்ல
மானிட உறவுகள் ஆயிரம் இருந்தும்

இதுபோன்ற உறவு தேவையா நமக்கு
அகத்தினுள் நாமிங்கு உறவாடும் போது
ரகசியம் இதில் ஏதும் இல்லை
இரசிப்பது அன்றி புரிவதும் இல்லை
பக்தியில் பரவசம் ஓங்கிடும் போது
பக்தியின் மூலம் உறவாடும் போது
புத்திக்கு எட்டாத பேரருள் நீ தர
பக்தியின் ரகசியம் நானும் அறிந்தேன்
நானிதைச் சொல்லிட அவசியம் இல்லை
நம்மிந்த உறவைப் புரிந்தவர் இல்லை
ஆயினும் இதில் எந்த ரகசியமும் இல்லை

BT Song 661 No secret
What is the need to tell this?
Where is any secret between us?
Once I belong to you
Where do I have a separate mind of my own?
Is this a relationship which could be explained by me?
How can I explain this by using any kinds of words
Though many relationships are in this world
Will our relationship be one among them?
I never had any physical relationship with you
I never touched your physical body also
But there is no relationship among humans without having a physical body
But I never had that kind of relationship with you
Do we need that kind of relationship?
When we have fellowship within our heart
There is no secret in it
We cannot understand it expect enjoying it
When bliss overflows in bhakti
When I have fellowship with you through my bhakti
As you bestow a marvelous grace which stands beyond reason
I understood the secret of bhakti
There is no need for me to say this
There is none who understood this relationship
Yet there is no secret in it
Nothing stops for other try to understand this

In every act, particularly when I claim that I am serving others, I see some hidden selfishness in it. Keeping me at the centre of my life I do many things. But when the Lord gently points this out, I get more irritated with Him and begin to argue. But He waits patiently for me to realize this and come back to him with a broken spirit and penitent heart to get healing and restoration.

எவ்வித குறையும் பிறர்மீது இல்லை
என்னையே நானின்னும் அறியவும் இல்லை
என்னையே முன்வைத்து பார்க்கின்ற வரையில்
பிறரை அறிந்திட திறனும் இல்லை
சுயநலம் கொண்டு வாழ்கிறேன் நாளும்

இதை நீ எடுத்துக் காட்டும் போது
உன்மீது எரிச்சலும் அதிகமாய் ஓங்கும்
ஆயினும் நானிதை உணரும் போது
என்னுளம் எனக்குள்ளே உடைந்து போகும்
இதற்கென பொறுமையாய் நீ காத்திருந்து
ஏற்ற விதமாக எடுத்துச் சொல்லி
நொறுங்குண்ட மனதை நீயே தந்து
நருங்குண்ட ஆவி மீண்டும் அளிக்கிறாய் (சங்கீதம் 34:18)

BT Song 662 Selfishness
Nothing is wrong with others
Still I didn’t understand about me properly
As long as I keep me ahead of others
I never have the ability to understand others
Each day I live with selfishness
Each day I worship my own ego
Thinking that I am living for others
I appreciate myself a lot
Though I do something for others
Still selfishness will be forefront in it also
When something goes wrong in it
Then I will try to run away from fulfilling even that responsibility
When you point out this to me
The irritation with you will increase
But when I realize this
I will break within me
Therefore you waiting patiently for me
In a proper way teaching me about it
Giving a penitent spirit
You again give me a spirit of repentance (Ps. 34:18)

As I went for my evening walk, as usual I began to meditate on my bhakti which is anchored only in the Lord. But for His guidance and having Word of God as the foundation and having fellowship with others bhaktas, reaching the Further shore won’t be that difficult task.

As I sat for my meditation and worship, I was overwhelmed by thinking of the opportunity to live in this mortal body to worship Him all the time. Of course human life has so many purposes. But the few minutes or even seconds that we spend with the Lord alone with Him, seeking Him only for His own sake gives some kind of immense joy to the spirit. Though this experience lasts only a few seconds, the after effects are great. As I enjoyed such a moment again, overwhelmed by it I wrote this song.

As I recalled yesterday’s experience in which I had some kind of immense blissful experience, again caught up with the same spirit, thinking more about the Lord I wrote this song to worship Him.
