BT Song 751

BT Song 751 I will ask again

Oh my Lord

I came to know about my call

I beg you

To declare it to me.

I want to spend

Rest of my life

As you have

Led it so far.

I have done

So many things

Thinking that

That was my call.

But in them

Many times

My personal interest

Also got mingled.

There were

Some reasons

For you to keep quiet

Even after knowing that.

As you can

Work only

Through my

Weakness alone

You overlooked

All my shortcomings

Even after

Knowing them.

There is

No limitation for you

You don’t need

Anybody’s help (to accomplish)

But when you

Work through us

You too are bound

By our limitations.

I understood this

Truth well

You know

That I know about it.

That is

My greatest burden

I become

Discouraged because of it

What is the

Reason for this silence

Why you

Further delay

I will ask

What I already knew

Knowing that

You give the same answer

Gurukulam. 27-9-2017, 7.15

As I went for my morning walk, I thought about my shortcomings which become impediments for God to accomplish so many things through me. But the problem is that I know that God has to work only through my weakness and he has no other option, provided he wants to continue to use me.  At the same time this also becomes my burden.  So what is my call?  Continue to remain a hurdle for God or to seek his will and permission to give room for him to release me from so many things so that he can do his work in a better way?  I know the answer to this, but asking the same old question to get the same answer also becomes a problem for me. [If this song or this comment makes no sense, never mind.  As usual, ignore this one also].

BT Song 751

BT Song 752

As I was typing the Surdas songs both in Hindi and the English translations, there were few songs in which Sur expressed his bhakti through viraha bhakti (love in separation). Even while I was typing them, I was thinking how this kind of bhakti comes very close to the Indian better to a Hindu mind, as we have so many songs like this almost in every bhakti tradition.  So when I thought about it, again I wrote this song having the same spirit of Viraha bhakti.  Though fish will suffer without water, water cannot understand it. But the Lord cannot do the same with his bhakta.

BT Song 752

752 You too cannot understand?

I only ask you with much request

I come unto you with this desire

But you asked me to have patience

That I cannot do any more.

I am become over agitated

I lament with much pain

If you further delay

After promising to come, I am troubled.

You might have your own time to come,

You might have some good reason for that.

But I don’t have time to think about it

I cannot keep quiet.

You better declare about the time of your arrival

Come and knock at the door

Don’t further delay unnecessarily

But whatever you do, I agree with it.

My eyes are sore looking for you

Now tears also become dry

I have stopped talking for long time

Now I even stopped lamenting.

I am longing without having your darshan

Unable to cling your feet I become tired

I cannot bear even if I get separated for few seconds

If you abandon me I won’t live any more.

I am suffering like a fish

Which is deprived of its water (to survive)

But the water cannot understand the condition of the fish

But cannot you too understand my condition?

BT Song 753

When sat for my worship time as the inspiration to come to write another song, as usual I resisted. This also troubling me not allowing sitting quietly to talk with the Lord.  After initial resistance, get irritated. I took the paper and began to write this song justifying that as I don’t know how to talk properly, it is better for me to give in writing.

But this is true in one way. I prefer to put my thoughts in black and white than sit and talk about it.  In talking there will be so many inconsistencies and contradictions, but when I write, as I read it again and also refer to other sources, relatively I can present my views with some clarity than when talking about it.

BT Song 753

753 This alone I know

I know only

To do this

I can plead

Only this way

When you gave

So many talents to others

You gave this

Shortcoming to me–….I know only this

I don’t know

To talk clearly

I don’t have

Anyone to plead for me

Therefore

In order to I share

I put in words

What I know–….I know only this

If I talk

You may not listen to me

I may not

Even plead properly

But once I gave to you

In written

As you cannot

Ignore it–….I know only this

How much you have

Who knows?

Only those who listened to you

Alone know about it

Fortunately for us to know

As the disciples

Recorded them

And gave us–….I know only this

You don’t have

Time to sit and listen to me

Am I the only

Concern for you

Therefore once I gave

You in writing

As you can read

When you have time–….I know only this

BT Song 754

After writing the previous poem (753), as my mind calmed down, I again sat silently completely immersed in the calmness around me.  I immensely enjoyed and tried to tune my spirit to go along with it to worship the Lord.  I don’t know how many seconds this calmness lasted.  Maybe only a few seconds, but the joy which I received through such silent worship remains for a long time, even throughout the day.  After that silent meditation and worship, thanking God for giving such an opportunity, I wrote this song to Praise him.   As I was sitting in the swing in the library facing the banyan tree, green grass in front of me, slight drizzling, the way birds make noise, the creepers and branches of the tree swing gently—you need to be in such place and time and also alone without anyone around you to experience and enjoy it.  Even if you want, you won’t talk but only get immersed in that silence to worship the Lord joining with nature.  As I got this opportunity after a long gap, like a blind person regaining his sight, I rejoiced again.

BT Song 754

BT Song 754 I came to worship you

You give

Grace immensely

For me to come and

Sit at your feet calmly

What kind of tapasya (penance)

I have done to receive this

It is nothing but

Your mercy that I know well.

Knowing my nature

Understanding my need

You arrange circumstances

Accordingly.

Knowing this

Folding both my hands

Tears flowing from eyes

I bowed at your feet

Who can understand its true nature?

Other than me

How they are going to understand it

Even if I try to share it?

There is no

Need for this

Yet I share

So that they too can have that experience!

How much calmness

Surrounds me

It also fills

Me within.

As the blind person

Received back his sight

As you gave this again

I praise you with many thanks.

The green grass

Has spread its carpet everywhere

Birds also joining

Singing your praises

Trees and creepers

Joining, began to dance

The thunder

Also began to play the drum

Get drowned in this

Sweetness of nature

I came unto you

With fullness of my heart to bow at your feet.

BT Song 755

For me Muktiveda introduces new value in the life of a bhakta, which may not be in her worldview or not very explicit.  As a sannyasi I am not expected to serve others through my body and life, though it is not prohibited in our Hindu Worldview.  But for me, according to Muktiveda, the more one goes near to God, the more she has to go among the people to serve in whatever possible way. So as I was reflecting about my life as a sannyasi and perfectly enjoying it here, without any responsibility and burden (in fact it is bit luxurious considering the comforts here, the expenses involved in maintenance of this ashram, which is not serving any purpose etc.), my conscience pricked me as I am enjoying a luxurious life here than living as a sannyasi.  Then I wrote this song.

@ According to my understanding if one renounces to gain something, then it is not renunciation. So a sannyasi should even renounce the purpose of renunciation itself.

755 Should demonstrate in practical life

I should demonstrate in practical life

I should apply the mercy that I received in my life

Not living for me within me as a recluse

I should do seva to others as much as possible

The goal of sannyasa is not in renouncing

Unless one does not know the very nature of sannyasa?

As we too renounce only to get something

Unless we are ready to renounce what we received there is no true renunciation. @

Whatever might be the reason for creation?

Even if we do not know who created us

Only through the life which we live now

We should understand the reason for our coming

Living with others in both in body and mind

Understanding the need of body and mind (of others)

We should accomplish the purpose of our coming

By serving only through them.

You alone taught this truth to me

You came and demonstrated this on this earth

The truth which I learnt from you

Should accomplish it through my body and mind.
