BT Song 946

A self-portrayal. First, I wrote this as a secular song. After writing it, I began to meditate on the song and prayed to God to help me overcome this nature in me. Then I wrote stanzas 10 and 11 as my prayers and read the poem as my prayer. After praying, I thought about it and wrote another two stanzas (12 and 13) and bracketed 10 and 11 so I could easily switch between two worlds. However, I finally decided to keep it under Bhakti Theology Songs and retained stanzas 10 and 11.

BT Song 946: I Ignore Others

I often ignore

Those around,

Then feel regret

In my heart, profound. (1)

I chose to distance

From their space,

But only to find

Self-deceit in place. (2)

I quickly declare,

“No more, no more.”

Yet when they speak,

I shut the door. (3)

In pondering why

This came to be,

Peace eludes,

I’m filled with agony. (4)

I let dark thoughts

Take root and grow,

Their shadow spreads,

Eclipsing all I know. (5)

Imagining woes

Without cause or end,

Fury flames within,

From which I can’t defend. (6)

Fueling the fire

With every thought,

‘Til the blaze consumes

All I’ve got. (7)

At last, I am

By flames undone,

My strength consumed,

No battles won. (8)

Yet in mercy,

Seeing my plight,

You redeemed me,

Bringing back the light. (9)

Grace restored

My will to live,

From death’s grasp,

A life to give. (10)

Still, victory

Is not complete,

For my nature’s war

Is hard to beat. (11)

Thus, I must

This nature bear,

No escape,

Just constant care. (12)

BT Song 947

BT Song 947: Human Religions

So easily they fashioned,

Faiths to bind,

With boundaries set,

To divide mankind.

At birth, upon us

Creeds were pressed,

Shaping souls

By doctrines dressed.

Young minds taught

What they could not grasp,

Led to live

In a belief’s clasp.

We grew up

Without much thought,

Certain our faith

Was true and wrought.

In this zeal,

We scorned the rest,

Claiming our path

To be the best.

This madness bred

A vile terror,

Humanity’s cost,

A grievous error.

Faith that should unite,

Turns to divide,

Human nature lost,

On this earthly ride.

Mathigiri, 22-8-2018, 2.30 p.m.

BT Song 948

As I was posting my Bhakti Songs (Bhakti Theology Songs) on my blog with comments and reading a Commentary on Psalms, confusion arose in my mind about my conversations with the Lord. Are they really true, or are they only a projection of my brain? Am I imposing my own imagination in the name of God talking to me and giving answers to my questions? Several times such questions arose as my rationality refused to accept my own songs and statements in such a way. That night, as I was doing my night walk (10:30 to 11:00), I began to think about it again and started talking to the Lord about it.

After my regular reading, as I sat for my meditation and prayer, the same thought came to me, and I began to think about it deeply. Then I wrote this song. After completing the 10th stanza, I closed the poem and read it as my prayer. Tears began to flow, and I was overwhelmed by some experience. Then I wrote stanzas 11 and 12. I read the whole poem again as my prayer. After closing the notebook, as the inspiration came again, I wrote stanza 13 and read the entire poem once more. Closing my eyes, I silently prayed. A sense of calmness came over me. I won’t say that God really spoke to me, but I realized that even this inspiration is from God and is His response to my question. Finally, I wrote two stanzas (14 and 15) and closed my prayer.

BT Song 948: Is It True?

To you I come,

Without delay,

My needs and woes,

To you I convey. (1)

Now, as before,

I plead and pray,

For you to join,

To light my way. (2)

In fellowship,

My heart to share,

Questions abound,

In my silent prayer. (3)

Is this bond

A truth divine,

Or but a figment

Of my mind? (4)

Such doubts arise,

Answers I seek,

Is this your voice,

Or my own speak? (5)

Can my discourse

Be yours indeed,

Or is it self

I hearken and heed? (6)

Whatever answer

You may give,

I’ll take it, Lord,

By your will I live. (7)

With tearful eyes

And folded hand,

Your answers, Lord,

I understand. (8)

Words fail to grasp

The depth you share,

Through your Spirit’s

Tender care. (9)

To others, I speak

Of this divine,

But all are echoes

Of your line. (10)

In this clarity,

Doubt departs,

I bow, my Lord,

With grateful heart. (11)

BT Song 949

As I got up very early, after a cup of tea, I began to work on the computer. When the day dawned, the birds began to sing with their beautiful voices. At first, I didn’t pay much attention as I was busy with my computer work. But as another bird joined in and responded to the first, I couldn’t continue my work. Stopping my work, I sat silently, enjoying the singing of the birds and the coolness and calmness of the early morning. Then, as inspiration came, I wrote this song to worship the Lord, closing my computer work. No doubt, God first created nature and then human beings not only to inspire His spirit but also to remind them of their purpose.

BT Song 949: Call of Nature

The coals cry out

In cuckoo’s song,

Cool breezes join,

Their notes prolong.

The peacock dances,

Feathers wide,

My heart in worship,

By their side.

Can we resist

Nature’s call,

Though duties beckon,

One and all?

For hearts in longing,

Join the praise,

Of God in nature’s

Wondrous ways.

For this, we’re made,

To praise and sing,

With nature’s chorus,

Heavenward ring.

In grace’s rain,

We wet our soul,

With music sweet,

And praises whole.

Accept this call,

To worship true,

In heart and spirit,

Sing anew.

In praise, no time

Can hinder be,

For obstacles fall

In this jubilee.

Nature’s praise,

Without delay,

Invites us all

To join and stay.

BT Song 950

Every religious doctrine stands or falls based on personal faith, not on reason. Atonement is one such doctrine. The same is true for the karma theory. At least the karma theory says that one has to work out their own salvation, as another person cannot contribute much. At the same time, the karma theory also says that one’s karma can be transferred to another person through proper ritual. In fact, another person’s karma can also affect one’s course of life. For example, if a person incurs some loss in business, it is not due to their own karma, but also because of their spouse or (newborn) children or the influence of planets in their life. But a normal Hindu never thinks about these seeming contradictions. They live by using the theory (or ritual) according to the need of that particular time. In a sense, a Hindu can live happily and freely without carrying the burden of any doctrine. Whereas a professing bhakta of the Lord, whether they like it or not, their bhakti is often dictated by the demands of the doctrine, preventing them from living a normal bhakti life enjoying their relationship with the Lord.

So, when I was seriously thinking about understanding the doctrine of atonement, which once and for all removed the burden of sin, yet the reality of the power of sin which dominates my life, after thinking seriously (and recording a lot about this conflict in a brainstorm), I wrote this song.

BT Song 950: Have No Authority

No time for regrets,

Nor sorrow’s weight,

For in redemption,

There’s no such fate.

Sin’s power broken,

Death’s sting undone,

No fear remains,

The battle’s won.

Though mistakes may come,

Punishment is sure,

Yet none are flawless,

Of this be sure.

Your purpose clear,

To redeem and save,

To give us strength,

In trials we brave.

Defeated by sin,

Yet fear not we,

For your Spirit revives,

And sets us free.

Once penance made,

Sin has no claim,

Weakness may come,

But not remain.

BT Song 946: I Ignore Others

I easily ignore

Others

Then become

Upset with myself. (1)

I decided to

Keep them away

But I remain away

And deceive myself. (2)

I tell immediately

That it is

Not possible

Anymore. (3)

However, others

Try to talk

I refuse

To listen to them. (4)

However, thinking

What has happened?

I lost my peace

As I become upset. (5)

I allow

Negative thoughts

To grow in me and

Let them take over. (6)

Imagining several

Things unnecessarily

And growing

Anger within me. (7)

Pouring more

Oil on the fire

And increasing

The flames more and more. (8)

Finally allowing

It to annihilate me,

I am

Finished in the end. (9)

{Knowing this,

My condition,

Taking pity

In order to redeem me. (10)

You redeemed me

Because of your grace,

Reviving me again to live,

Who was dead.} (11)

But there is

No final victory

So far

Over this nature. (12)

Till the end,

I have to live with this nature,

There is no

Alternative to this. (13)

Mathigiri, 21-8-2018, 11.55 p.m.

BT Song 947: Human Religions

How easily

They arranged religions,

How easily they

Set boundaries to them.

They separated humans

Based on them,

They created so many

Blind doctrines.

When we were formed

And came out of the womb,

Imposing a

Religion on the child,

Creating several

Identities for that

And shaping it

Accordingly.

At an age

When it cannot understand,

Teaching those doctrines

Which they never understood,

Unable to think

On its own when

That child grows,

They made it to live.

As we too

Grew like this,

We too never thought

Which one is correct?

Thinking that

Only our religion is the best,

We thrashed

Other religions under our feet.

As that madness

Went to our head,

We allowed

(Religious) terrorism to grow,

Paying a cost

For that,

We annihilate

Humanity slowly.

Growing religion

Which needs to perish,

In that name,

Annihilating ourselves,

Losing humanity

Completely,

Living on this earth,

We lost human nature.

Mathigiri, 22-8-2018, 2.30 p.m.

BT Song 948: Is It True?

I will always come to you

Without failing.

I will tell you about

All my needs. (1)

Now also I am

Doing the same

And request you to

Come and join me! (2)

When I talk and

Have fellowship with you,

I will share

What I feel. (3)

As so many questions

Are coming to my mind,

I will seek answers to them

In you. (4)

Is this fellowship with you

Really true,

Or only my own

Imagination? (5)

As similar

Questions are coming,

What kind of

Answer should I give? (6)

Can I impose

My own talk with myself

As your response

To me? (7)

Whatever answer

You might give,

Can I take it

As my own response? (8)

When I struggle like this

Without understanding,

You should not

Remain as a riddle to me. (9)

That is why

I am calling you.

Knowing this,

You give me the response! (10)

Whatever it might be,

I will accept it.

However you say,

I will listen. (11)

With tears in my eyes,

By folding my hands,

I thank you

For the answer you gave. (12)

I know that

I don’t have words to communicate

What you share

By dwelling within me. (13)

All that I share

Outwardly with others

Are nothing but your words,

Given by your Spirit. (14)

Thereby as my

Doubts are removed,

Oh my Lord,

I again bow at your feet! (15)

Mathigiri, 23-8-2018, 11.30 p.m.

BT Song 949: Call of Nature

The coals called with their cuckoo sound,

The cool breeze joined them.

The peacock danced, spreading its feathers,

Heart began to worship, joining them.

Can we deny this call of nature

Though we might have so many tasks?

As our hearts long to join them,

Can we remain not worshiping God?

God created us for this purpose,

He kept nature as our companion for this.

He came and dwelt in our hearts,

He will bestow grace enchanted by such music.

Let us get wet in that rain of grace,

Let us praise him with sweet music.

Accepting the call of nature,

Let us worship him wholeheartedly.

When we begin to praise him,

Time never brings any hurdles to it.

Even if some hurdles come,

Once we begin to praise God, they won’t withstand.

Nature, which praises God without any hurdle,

Will give such opportunities to us.

Realizing this, let us also join in

And worship God with melted hearts.

Mathigiri, 25-8-2018, 5.50 a.m.

BT Song 950: Have No Authority

There is no time to regret,

There is no need to carry the burden of sorrow.

Once you came and redeemed me,

There is no more opportunity for this.

You removed the strength of sin,

You broke the sting of death.

Therefore, they don’t have strength anymore,

I need not fear them.

Punishment will come

When I make mistakes.

There is no one who has never done them,

But I need not give up because of that.

The reason for your coming is to redeem us

And to give us victory over them.

But when we are defeated by them,

We need not be afraid of them.

The Spirit you gave within us

Will revive us and lead us.

When we make mistakes,

He will warn us without fail.

Once you have done penance for sin,

Sin has no authority over me.

But when weakness attacks me,

It does not have victory over me.

Mathigiri, 27-8-2018, 10.30 p.m.

BT Song 946 அலட்சியம் செய்கிறேன்

BT Song 947

மத்திகிரி, 25-8-2018, காலை, 5.50 a.m.

BT Song 950
