BT Song 1621
Unspoken communication with the Lord has become my most cherished sadhana. Sometimes, I murmur or whisper a few words to Him. But more often, I prefer to sit quietly, pouring out my heart without uttering a single word. I have experienced that He understands all forms of communication, and so, I find myself gravitating toward this silent form of communion with Him.
BT Song 1621: Speaking Without Speaking
1
When there’s nothing to say
Why would I need
To say anything
At all?
2
When you understand
Without me speaking,
Why would there be
A need to explain?
3
After silently speaking to you,
When you understand,
I too find peace
In understanding.
4
Just as a mother knows
The nature of her child,
You, who created me,
Know my heart.
5
So, I too
Will have nothing
Left to say
And remain silent.
6
Recalling all
That I’ve said so far,
I stand here in silence,
Ashamed.
7
You came to me
In silence, sat with me,
Spoke without words,
And formed a bond.
8
After feeling the closeness,
I did not seek
Another way
To find it.
9
Without wasting words
As I did before,
I think of remaining
As I am now.
10
Without saying anything,
Without asking for anything,
I only asked for the gift
To live like this.

BT Song 1621: Uttering Without Utterance
in Classical English:
1
When naught there is to speak,
Wherefore should I need
To utter aught
At all?
2
When thou dost comprehend
Without my speech,
Wherefore should there be
Need of explanation?
3
Once I silently did tell thee,
And thou didst perceive,
I, too, in understanding
Did find my peace.
4
As a mother doth know
Her child’s nature,
Thou, who hast made me,
Dost know my heart.
5
Thus, I, too,
Shall have naught to say
And shall in silence
Abide.
6
Reflecting on all
That I have spoken,
In shame, I stand here
Silent.
7
Thou didst seek me,
In silence thou didst sit with me,
Spoke without words,
And wove a bond.
8
Upon sensing that nearness,
I sought not another path
To find it
Elsewhere.
9
No more, as in the past,
Shall I waste my words;
I ponder to remain
Thus as I am.
10
Not uttering a word,
Nor asking for aught,
I only did request
This grace to live thus.

BT Song 1622
I am exhausted from reading, thinking, and writing. Yet, despite my repeated efforts in the past to stop these activities, I have consistently failed. I cannot keep away from reading or writing. However, I often feel as if I’m a deer chasing a mirage. Although God has quenched the thirst of my atman, I wonder when He will do the same for my intellect. Why has He refrained from bestowing that boon upon me so far?
BT Song 1622: The Impact Won’t Cease
in Simple English:
1
Reading and pondering,
Then writing,
But until now,
I’ve seen no results.
2
I read something,
Think of many things,
Write a few,
But what’s the benefit?
3
Everything appears
Like a mirage,
I run seeking
To quench my thirst.
4
But even until the end,
I find no water,
Yet, my running
Has not ceased.
5
The deer, too,
Runs for the mirage,
Collapses in exhaustion
And falls.
6
But that end
Never comes;
It continues to run—
What will my fate be?
7
Like the mirage,
I cannot stop,
But to keep running,
I lack strength.
8
Yet, you watch
This spectacle—
What you’re doing
Is not right.
9
Why should I
Keep running?
What am I chasing
That I must continue?
10
Even after coming
To your life-giving spring,
Why do I still
Run after the mirage?
11
Though I drink
The living water,
This impact
Has not yet faded.
12
The way to remove it
Is still unknown
Even to me,
It’s unclear.
13
The intellect hungers,
You feed it,
The mind thirsts,
You give it water.
14
The spiritual impact
Is full in you—
When will the impact
Of other things fade?
15
I suppress my desires
And stay silent,
Yet the philosophy
You do not grant.
16
There is no other way,
O Guru,
Only if you give,
Will I be saved.

BT Song 1622: The Impact Lingers
in Classical English:
1
Reading and pondering,
Then writing,
But unto this day,
I’ve seen no fruit.
2
I read some text,
Reflect on much,
Write down some thoughts,
Yet what gain is there?
3
All appears
As a mirage,
I chase, seeking
To quench my thirst.
4
Yet even at the end,
No water is found,
Still, my running
Has not ceased.
5
The deer, too,
Chases the mirage,
Falls in exhaustion,
And perishes.
6
But that end
Doth not come;
The chase continues—
What shall my fate be?
7
Like the mirage,
I cannot halt,
But the strength to run
Fails me.
8
Yet, thou dost watch
This spectacle—
Thy deeds,
They are not right.
9
Why should I
Keep running?
What dost thou seek
That I must pursue?
10
Even after finding
Thy life-giving spring,
Why do I still
Chase after the mirage?
11
Though I drink
Of thy living waters,
This impact
Yet lingers.
12
The way to remove it
Remains unknown
Even to me,
It is veiled.
13
The intellect hungers,
Thou dost feed it,
The mind thirsts,
Thou dost quench it.
14
The spiritual impact
Is full in thee—
When shall the impact
Of all else fade?
15
I subdue my will
And remain silent,
Yet the philosophy
Thou dost withhold.
16
No other way
Is there for me;
O Guru,
Save me, if thou canst.

BT Song 1623
Modern gadgets and apps have become both a blessing and a snare. To survive, one cannot completely avoid them. Fortunately, many seniors living with their children don’t have to worry too much about tasks like banking. But living alone, I struggle with managing so many things on my own. Following instructions is not an option for me—they only confuse me further. I often seek help from others. While many are willing to help, not everyone can due to time constraints. People are busy. After several failed attempts to install apps, I grew frustrated and decided to give up. Now, I must wait upon the Lord for His help, perhaps in the form of someone who can teach or assist me when they have the time.
BT Song 1623: My Duty
Simple English:
1
What do you ask me
To do, without
Giving any clear
Instructions at all?
2
If there’s no way
To do it, then
Show me by
Your actions.
3
When confusion arises
In my mind,
Whether to act
Or let it go,
4
Give me the clarity
To know
What to do
And what to let go.
5
I don’t know
How to make decisions
For myself,
And no one is here to help.
6
I need to explain
My situation to others
And they too
Need to understand.
7
But no one
Has the time
And no one
Seems to care.
8
Telling them
Is of no use
When they don’t
Understand my situation.
9
Even you,
Who know everything,
Fail to make it clear,
So how can I ask others?
10
So I’ve come
To a decision:
I’ll do nothing
And just remain still.
11
If things must happen,
Let them happen
As they should,
Or let your will be done.
12
So I’ll speak
No more of this
And ask
Nothing of you.
13
There’s nothing else
For me to do now,
This is
My current state.
14
Leaving everything else
In your hands,
I’ll hold on to patience—
That is my duty.

BT Song 1623: My Duty
Classical English:
1
What dost thou bid me
To do, without
Giving any clear
Command at all?
2
If there be no way
To fulfill it, then
Thou must show me
By thy deeds.
3
When confusion doth arise
Within my thoughts,
Whether to act
Or let go,
4
Bestow upon me
The clarity to discern
What must be done
And what should be released.
5
I know not
How to make decisions
For myself,
And none is here to aid.
6
I must present
My state to others,
And they too
Must comprehend.
7
But none
Have the time,
And none
Seem to care.
8
To tell them
Is futile,
For they comprehend not
My plight.
9
Even thou,
Who knowest all,
Leavest me in doubt,
So how can I seek others?
10
Thus have I arrived
At a decision:
I shall do nothing
And simply remain.
11
If things must unfold,
Let them transpire
As they will,
Or let thy will prevail.
12
Henceforth, I shall
Speak no more of this
And ask naught
Of thee.
13
There remains nothing
For me to accomplish,
This is
My present state.
14
Leaving all else
In thy hands,
Patience shall be
My sole duty.

BT Song 1624
My high school classmate, Sri Meenakshi Sundaram, hails from Vrudhachalam. He recently published a new book on this town, providing updated material that offers a fresh perspective on previously available information. Vrudhachalam is renowned for the ‘Virudhagreeswarar’ temple, constructed by Kandaraditya Sozhan. The town is also referred to as ‘Vrudha-Kasi,’ meaning older than Kasi, and is considered ‘more meritorious than Kasi’ [காசியிலும் வீசம் அதிகம்]. It is believed that if someone dies and their bones are immersed in the river here, the bones will turn to stone.
Interestingly, the deity’s name in Tamil is ‘One who is the Lord of the ancient hill’ (Pazha + Malai + Nadhar). However, his main consort’s name is ‘Vrudhamba,’ meaning ‘old lady.’ When the famous Saiva saint Sundarar visited this temple, he refused to sing about the Lord because his wife was an old lady. To ensure that Sundarar’s songs would bless their temple, the local people quickly created another consort named ‘Balambihai,’ meaning ‘Young Lady.’ Only then did Sundarar sing several songs. [this is not history but a myth]
We lived in Vrudhachalam for a long period after my parents returned from Trichy. I studied there from elementary school to high school. Our house was located near the river, so we would cross it to go to school, except during floods. In our time, the river flowed most of the year except in severe summers. But now, only a small ditch remains, and no one can step into the river anymore.
As I pondered how to write the history of this place, I decided to do so in poetic form, blending historical and mythological elements with ecological concerns. As usual, I added some humor to it, resulting in this song.
Some may wonder why I return to writing songs about other deities as I did before Muktinath became my Guru. My exclusive devotion to my Guru does not prohibit me from writing on other topics as part of my creative process. This has nothing to do with my bhakti; it’s simply a hobby. It is common for Hindus to write about deities from other faiths, and several Muslims have written songs about Hindu deities and still perform them today. As a Hindu, I do the same.
The Story of a Place – BT Song 1624
Pazhamalai Nathar (Lord of the Ancient Hill), Mudhumalai Nathar (Lord of the Old Hill),
Came seeking this place from the snow mountain.
When devotees asked for the reason,
He said, “Because it is more meritorious than Kasi.” 1
“I came seeking Virudha-Kasi,” he said,
And called his consort, who resides in his body,
She came and settled here with him.
Those who doubt this, come and see. 2
Bones immersed here will turn to stone,
Come see this miracle in person.
Revere the Lord and his consort daily,
And receive limitless grace. 3
The young Sundarar once came to this place,
When he saw the aged consort,
He was shocked and went to Lord Shiva,
Saying, “How can she be old if you remain youthful?” 4
To this, Shiva replied,
“Since she left her natal home and came here,
Her mind has been troubled,
Thus she too aged like me.” 5
Hearing this, Sundarar’s heart sank,
“The Lord who became old due to his wife’s curse,
The Thiruneelakandar temple is in Thillai,
You know this well, 6
Your devotees who regained their youth,
Thiru Neelakandar’s place is in Thillai.
He said, “It was you who made that,
Similarly, create the mother,” he said 7.
Not wanting to lose the devotee’s songs,
The Lord sought the consort’s permission,
And brought in a young consort,
Then the devotees came in groups. 8
Seeing the two consorts and the Lord,
They bathed in the sacred tank.
But the river has dried up now,
And the townspeople send their sewage there, 9
Turning the sacred tank into a cesspool.
Seeing the current state of his place,
Even Shiva was disheartened,
Thinking of returning to the snow mountain, 10
When he asked his consorts for permission,
The elder one said, “Moving frequently is not possible in old age.”
The younger one joined her, saying,
“My parental home is nearby, so I can’t come.” 11
Even as a Lord, he couldn’t defy his wives,
So Shiva thought, “Whatever happens, what can we do?”
He stood there disheartened.
Seeing his state, I felt some pity for him, 12
And suggested an alternative,
That would be easy for him:
“If Ganga and Kaveri are joined,
Along with other rivers, 13
Water will flow in the river again,
Purging the sewage and bringing back sanctity.”
When I said this, Shiva smiled at me,
“Ganga is already crying in agony over there, 14
How can I bring her for this?
There’s no place to keep her on my head,
With two consorts already struggling here,
What will happen if there are three?” 15
“When the Vedic era returns,
Indra might rescue her again,
If the epic era returns,
Bhagiratha might perform penance again.” 16
“If not, if kings rule again,
Perhaps they might connect the rivers,
But now it’s the Kali Yuga,
With no chance for that to happen.” 17
If Agastya goes north again,
He can bring the Ganges back
And join it with the Kaveri.
But now, there is no way for that. 18
“When monarchy ended and democracy came,
Politicians took control,
With no chance of connecting rivers,
Even I can’t do anything.” 19
“Destroying forests to increase carbon dioxide,
Even the snow mountain has melted,
Thus, there’s no place
For a life-giving river anymore.” 20
“Adyar river’s fate has become like a sewer,
Kaveri’s fate is now the same,
The time of destruction has returned.”
When he said this, I remained silent, 21
Unable to respond,
“If this is done quickly, it’s good,”
With that, I conclude this story of the place. 22

BT Song 1625
Once again, I am bedridden due to severe back pain, unable to stand, sit, or walk. Although our ashram helpers do their best to care for me, they cannot be here 24/7 as they have their own responsibilities at home. While they have arranged everything I need, I try my best to manage on my own to avoid troubling them too much. Leaving the ashram and living somewhere with 24/7 assistance is not an option for me right now. That could happen when I am entirely bedridden—God forbid that situation. After managing to recover and sit up, I spoke to the Lord, reminding Him that there’s no point in arranging other help. Either He should give me good health to manage on my own, or like a mother He should be with me 24 7.
BT Song 1625: Where is the Focus?
Simple English:
1
Don’t be
indifferent,
Don’t withdraw,
Wondering, “What happened to me?”
2
When ailments
Often attack the body,
Understand beforehand
That there is no strength to bear it.
3
Once, we may
Fall and rise again,
But if sickness continues,
What can we do?
4
I too try
To stay alert,
Not to pass
My troubles onto others.
5
So, you too
Must be mindful,
Consider the needs
Of body, soul, and mind.
6
Even if I’ve done
This many times,
You must show it
In your actions.
7
Your focus
Has wandered off somewhere,
And that itself
Has caught my attention.
8
You too have
A thousand responsibilities,
And I know
That very well.
9
But where is
The special attention
For the one
Who is left alone?
10
“How many messengers
Did I send for you?”
Don’t just say
That to me.
11
Even they
Take breaks often,
And you must not
Forget that.
12
You must
Always be with me,
Like a mother
To her child.
13
Send the messengers
To do other work,
But stay with me
Without wandering off.
14
Like the pupil
Of an eye,
You must protect me daily,
Healing my ailments.
15
Don’t remain
indifferent,
Stay attentive
And watch over me.
Gurukulam, 18-6-2024, 11.05 pm
BT Song 1625: Where Lies the Focus?
Classical English:
1
Do not be
indifferent,
Withdraw not,
Pondering, “What has befallen me?”
2
When ailments
Oft assail the body,
Know beforehand
That strength to bear them is lacking.
3
Once, we may
Fall and rise anew,
But if sickness persists,
What recourse remains?
4
I too strive
To be vigilant,
Not to impose
My burdens upon others.
5
Therefore, thou too
Must be mindful,
Reflect on the needs
Of body, soul, and mind.
6
Though I’ve done
Of this oftentimes,
In deeds, thou must
Show it forth.
7
Thy focus
Hath wandered elsewhere,
And that itself
Hath come to my notice.
8
Thou too hast
A thousand duties,
And this
I well perceive.
9
But where is
The special care
For the one
Who stands alone?
10
“How many messengers
Did I appoint for thee?”
Utter not
Such words to me.
11
Even they
Do take their leave,
And thou must not
Forget this truth.
12
Thou must
Ever be with me,
Like a mother
Beside her child.
13
Send forth the messengers
For other tasks,
But tarry with me,
Departing not.
14
Like the apple
Of thine eye,
Protect me each day,
Healing my afflictions.
15
Be not
indifferent,
Remain attentive,
And watch over me.

2

13
14
15
