Secular Song 631 to 635

Secular Song 631:

When I read Ramachandra Guha’s book about the lives of seven non-Indians (white people) who followed Mahatma Gandhi’s footsteps, dedicating their entire lives to the freedom struggle and becoming Indian both in letter and spirit, it deeply moved me. After completing the book and writing a review, I composed this song to pay my respects to such noble souls.

Secular Song 631 Noble Souls

1.

What all prices

And how much they gave,

When I think of it,

I feel ashamed.

2.

From somewhere far,

They came here,

And when I think of

The service they did.

3.

Leaving selfishness,

Forgetting their own,

With only others’ welfare

In their minds.

4.

Their body, wealth, and soul,

They gave everything,

And walked daily

In the noble path.

5.

In the principles they held,

They stood firm,

The work they started,

They finished with skill.

6.

With no desire

For name or fame,

In titles or records,

They had no interest.

7.

Till the end,

They lived simply,

This is my soil, they said,

And here they rested.

8.

The sacrifice they sowed

Grew like a banyan,

Taking root and spreading,

Giving many branches.

9.

Everyone could come,

Space was given,

Without any caste,

Religion, or race divisions.

10.

As true disciples

Of Gandhi,

They lived,

So they say.

11.

In the flow of time,

Without leaving a trace,

They melted away,

And became eternal.

12.

When I read again

The deeds

Of those noble

Martyrs.

13.

Tears welled up,

With folded hands,

I worshipped their feet,

And stood in silence.

Secular Song 632:

We all know the saying, “Speech is silver, but silence is gold.” This principle applies not only to speaking but also to writing. However, mastering this art is rare. What one can convey in a short poem or proverb often cannot be captured in prose. Whether in speaking or writing, unless one experiences inner peace, this art remains elusive.

Secular Song 632 Short form

1.

To speak a word,

One must wait,

For a word to come,

One must wait patiently.

2.

Like water falling

On a palm leaf,

Without noise,

Peace must be maintained.

3.

The strength of words

Lies in speaking,

The beauty of speech

Lies in the idea.

4.

The greatness of the idea

Lies in brevity,

That brevity

Is needed in speech.

5.

Any long, lengthy

Speech

Will never enter

The listener’s mind.

6.

If spoken concisely

And made clear,

The idea expressed

Won’t be wasted.

7.

For writing,

This is very necessary,

Like a short couplet,

It too must be.

8.

Like the small Kural

That penetrated seven seas,

Holding sharpness,

It must be like a couplet.

9.

That art

Does not come easily,

It doesn’t come

From writing or speaking much.

10.

In writing and speech,

Economy is needed,

For that,

The mind needs peace.

11.

That peaceful

Mind that knows,

Will speak briefly

And show in writing.

Secular Song 633:

Old age is indeed a blessing, and blessed is the person who has lived to see it. In old age, one witnesses many spectacles in life, causing both laughter and tears. However, the spectacle that an elderly person displays may evoke even more laughter and tears, and there is solace in knowing that when the end comes, they will no longer have to witness the drama that unfolds among relatives—some shedding tears, while others feel relieved.

Secular Song 633 Nothing but Thamasha

1.

After reaching

The end of life,

There is nothing more

To watch for fun.

2.

Having lived this far,

As a spectacle,

There is nothing new

Left to see.

3.

The shows we’ve seen,

Like some breeze,

How many spectacles

Can we describe?

4.

Some were entertained,

By others,

Many grew up,

Showing entertainment.

5.

We joined them,

Watching the fun,

And showed them

Our own entertainment.

6.

Realizing that life

Is just a show,

We lived and ended

In this same spectacle.

7.

Now there’s no need

To show or watch,

For there is

Nothing new in this.

8.

There is no one

To show or watch,

So there is

No need for it.

9.

We showed ourselves,

To ourselves,

And later when we

Look back.

10.

Showing is one thing,

Watching is another,

Realizing this change,

We saw the truth.

11.

What is this show?

We wondered,

And laughed at ourselves,

And we cried.

12.

So don’t laugh,

Or cry,

Don’t laugh

At the sight of tears.

13.

When the end

Finally comes,

We won’t be

Watching that show.

Secular Song 634:

My guiding principle in life is this: apart from myself, everyone else is a good person. As Corrie Ten Boom rightly said, “Unless you can count ten good things about a person, you don’t have the right to say even one bad thing against them.” The Muktiveda echoes this sentiment, instructing us to “consider others better than ourselves.” It’s easy to find faults in others and list their mistakes. But when we get to know them closely and start recognizing their good qualities, our attitude toward them changes. This shift in perspective brings about a transformation in our own lives.

Secular Song 634 – All are Good

1.

There is no place

In the world

Without good people,

We just don’t seek them.

2.

Not everyone

Is the same,

But still, we

Don’t trust anyone.

3.

No one exists

Without goodness,

But we

Don’t believe it.

4.

Thinking everyone

Should be like us,

We end up

Not trusting anyone.

5.

Is everyone

The same?

Is everyone

Like us?

6.

If there is

One good person,

Their goodness

Blesses everyone.

7.

Never forget

This ancient wisdom,

Don’t always think

Everyone is like you.

8.

When nature

Does this,

How did we

Get special justice?

9.

If we believe

Everyone is good,

We might join

Them someday.

10.

When we join them,

Our nature changes,

And then we too

Can become like them.

11.

Even if a small

Amount of goodness exists,

We should

Praise it.

12.

Big or small,

It’s all relative,

Depending on

Each person’s nature.

13.

Without a small axe,

Even a large

Cartwheel

Will fall off.

14.

If some good people

Are missing,

The world’s movement

Would stop.

15.

So let’s understand

Everyone is good,

Join them,

And change ourselves.

Secular Song 635 Water Fall

Though water fall fell with a roaring sound

Still there will remain a gentle silence

If we go close to it

It will give joy by springling water drops on us

If we dare to go inside and take a bath

It will give some healing comfort to our body

Then turning as a gentle river

It will flow silently on its way

By this way nature will teach about

The silence that it has with it

But when we think about

All the uproars in our life

We will long to live with that kind of peace

By mingling with nature

Secular Song 631 –

Secular Song 632 –

Secular Song 633 –

Secular Song 634 –

Secular Song 635
