Voice of the Heart: Song 646
At the beginning of August, I suddenly stopped writing poems. Even though inspiration struck, I resisted it and felt no interest in writing anymore. This decision didn’t stem from frustration but from a sense of contentment, as if I’d written enough and had no need or desire to share more. I found peace in remaining silent, living in solitude in my ashram, surrounded by nature in a remote place. To preserve this tranquility, I decided not to write further. However, as usual, I couldn’t uphold this resolution for long and began writing again in the last week of August. This love-hate relationship with writing has been a part of my life from the beginning.
Voice of the Heart: 646
Though I have a thousand thoughts,
Why is there no desire
To write them all?
Where has my eagerness gone? (1)
Even when a bit of eagerness
Comes to me,
I don’t see
The need to write. (2)
Thoughts, eagerness,
Reasons, necessity—
I’ve tried to write them all,
But none seem clear. (3)
There’s no need
To understand,
And no way
To write and comprehend. (4)
Though writing has its strength,
The strength of thoughts
Doesn’t match it—
There’s no balance. (5)
The thoughts I try to write
Don’t go deep enough—
They never reach
The true depth. (6)
So, even if eagerness
Comes,
Though I have a thousand thoughts,
It feels unnecessary to write. (7)
Even if I explain the reasons,
Sometimes,
Even writing
Needs a rest. (8)
Like a ship anchored
Yet gently swayed
By waves,
So does my tongue rest. (9)
Unceasing thoughts
Strike without rest—
In silence,
Anchors are found. (10)

Voice of the Mind: Song 647
In a Tamil magazine called Solai, someone wrote a short, thoughtful song about reading books, particularly old ones. It’s an encouraging idea, especially since reading habits are nearly extinct among today’s youth. However, the way they are captivated by social media concerns those of us raised in a culture of listening and learning from elders, both within the family and beyond. While this generation is smarter, more intellectually gifted, and talented in many ways, they allow themselves to be shaped by people who have no personal connection with them. Of course, there are two sides to learning—objectively from others without a personal relationship and subjectively with those we interact with daily. I prioritize the latter, though I don’t dismiss the former. As I contemplated this, I wrote this song as if a grandfather were giving advice to his grandchild, reflecting on my own stage in life, having reached the age of a grandfather.
Voice of the Heart: Song 647 – Stone [Action Word]
In the old, there’s new,
And in the new, there’s old—
This truth
Always exists in life. (1)
When flipping through old books,
The wisdom
Within the home
Sometimes shines. (2)
There are elders at home
Of close lessons to learn—
If only we
Put them into practice, it would be good. (3)
Both together give
A thousand lessons—
As we seek
And follow them. (4)
Don’t just stay with
Websites and the internet,
Would you do this
O my grandchild today? (5)

Secular Song 648
Different perspectives on an opinion shouldn’t be treated as ‘counter views.’ Everyone has their own outlook on life, and we must respect others’ freedom of expression. At the same time, we should remember that ‘our freedom ends at the beginning of another person’s nose,’ especially if our expression has a negative impact on society, particularly on the younger generation.
Voice of the Mind 648: Sharing Thoughts
There is no clash
Of thoughts here—
Between ideas,
There is no conflict. (1)
Each one expresses
Their own view,
And in my view,
I’ve spoken too. (2)
When we share,
Understanding comes—
But in clashing,
There is none. (3)
As we keep sharing,
Knowledge expands—
As we understand more,
Our minds open. (4)
Even the phrase
‘You or I’
Shows the skill
Of debating. (5)
Beyond winning or losing,
Seeing balance
Is the height
Of sharing. (6)
So, as I join
With others’ views,
Traveling along,
I move forward. (7)
When giving space
For differing views,
The journey continues
Sweetly forever. (8)

Voice of the Heart: Song 649
In Tamil, there is a genre called “Lavani,” where one side expresses its view through a poem, and the opposite side responds, usually with a counterargument, also in poetic form. In Lavani, the focus is on the talent to present an opposing view in poetry. However, offering alternative views through poems is not about confrontation; it’s like iron sharpening iron or diamond cutting diamond. I often do this to present my alternative perspective, not to counter someone else’s view for the sake of opposition.
Voice of the Heart: 649 – No Lavani
A counter-song
Doesn’t come to me—
There’s no time
To sing a Lavani. (1)
When my thoughts
Find a place,
I also give space
To opposing views. (2)
Like removing a thorn
With another thorn,
Like splitting a diamond
With another diamond. (3)
When the learned
Test the learned,
Where is the place
For a counter-song? (4)
If the two poles
Didn’t exist,
The spinning earth
Would come to a stop. (5)
Doesn’t the magnet
Attract iron?
That’s the reason, sir,
For my song. (6)

Voice of the Heart: Song 650
I believe in celebrating life at every stage, from childhood to old age. Each stage has its own meaning, purpose, and aesthetic experience that we cherish. Celebrating women and womanhood is a vital part of life, and every society does it in different ways. However, in male-dominated societies—almost everywhere—when women are treated merely as objects of pleasure to satisfy someone’s lust, it is unacceptable to me. Although I am single, I have immense respect for women, having learned a great deal about their nobility from my mother’s life. She allowed me to serve her until the end of her life, living with me. So, while I accept others’ freedom to celebrate the beauty of women, particularly their bodies, I have my own reservations about such celebrations, as expressed in this poem of mine.
In another Facebook group, someone wrote a beautiful short 4-line song celebrating the beauty of a woman’s tender and slim waist. While I respect his freedom of expression, I hold reservations about such open displays of a woman’s body, especially when it is reduced to an object of desire or lust. To counter this, I wrote a song that highlights the true greatness of that same waist—a waist that bears the weight of the entire responsibility of a home. As I do not wish to promote such portrayals of a woman’s body, I am sharing only my thoughts and my response in poetry, without including the image.
Voice of the Heart 650: Bearing the Burden
On such a small
Waist of mine,
How much burden
Have I carried? (1)
If you too
Fall seeing this,
Another burden
Will come, just like that. (2)
When you were enchanted
By the beauty of my waist,
Who bore the burden
That was given? (3)
Starting from the womb
To the grave,
Carrying the burden,
Womanhood lives on. (4)
If you see me
Only as an object,
You will realize
That I am a burden too. (5)
Yet, he made us
To carry the load,
And for that,
He shaped our waist. (6)
From nurturing in the womb
To carrying on the waist,
Holding close to the chest,
We nurtured humanity. (7)
Each part of our body
Tells so many,
So many stories,
Of what we’ve endured. (8)
Without saying a word,
My motherhood
Will always
Emerge victorious. (9)
Even if I fall,
I will lift you,
Carrying you on my waist,
And raise you again. (10)
Even if my loving husband
Becomes a child,
I will cradle and soothe you,
And raise you too. (11)
When youth’s desires
Fade away,
And old age comes,
Making you falter, (12)
Rest on your
Strong shoulder,
Hold me close
With your waist, and carry me. (13)
There, I will see
Your manliness,
And feel that
I am united with you. (14)
With no hiding,
Completely together,
We will live as one,
In perfect union. (15)
Walking together,
Even when our waists tire,
To lean on,
A shoulder is enough. (16)
One day, when we
Finally rest,
All the running
Will come to a stop. (17)
Only then will you know
The strength of the waist,
For there lies
The pride of womanhood. (18)
