This majestic drink has now been unanimously crowned as the official “Breakup Beverage” of February 15 — the grand festival of emotional freedom! While February 14 is busy with roses, heart balloons, and dramatic promises, February 15 belongs to clarity, confidence… and this glorious glass.
For years, broken hearts had no proper refreshment. The youth demanded something symbolic, something bold, something that says, “Thank you, next!” After intense unofficial research (conducted mostly in cafés and WhatsApp groups), this beverage emerged as the clear winner.
Gone are the days when one would sit in a corner, sighing poetically like Devdas, growing a philosophical beard and staring tragically at the moon. No, no! Today’s generation upgrades the status, orders breakfast, and celebrates rediscovered freedom — both boys and girls equally enlightened!
Some Tamil poet has surely written a powerful song suited perfectly as the anthem for this occasion. Sadly, the exact lines are missing at the moment — perhaps lost in a previous relationship. But trust me, the spirit is there.
One small tip: if you slightly deepen the colour of the drink… well… everybody understands the symbolism. I will maintain dignified silence on that matter. Let imagination do the rest.
So here’s to closure, confidence, and carbohydrates. Cheers to the Breakup Beverage — stronger, darker, and much wiser than yesterday! 🍹

If you truly, genuinely, from-the-bottom-of-your-heart want your guest to remember her visit for the rest of her natural life — and possibly mention it at every future family gathering — then brace yourself and prepare this royal masterpiece: Shahi Lussi.
Take one heroic piece of homemade paneer. Add one spoon of fresh malai (because we don’t do modesty here), one spoon of milk powder (for dramatic thickness), half a spoon of peanut butter (trust the process), a few nuts of your choice (almonds, cashews — let them feel important), one or two dates, a handful of raisins, one spoon of beetroot juice (for that “Is this safe?” royal pink glow — pomegranate juice also works if you prefer elegance over suspense), one or two pinches of elaichi, and of course, a full cup of fresh curd.
Important: Adjust the peanut butter and beetroot juice according to the desired consistency and colour. You want it rich and majestic — not something that looks like a science experiment.
Blend everything together until smooth. Then refrigerate for a few hours, so it gathers dignity and confidence. Finally, serve it with pride — and a slightly mysterious smile.
Now, some crucial household diplomacy rules:
- Never prepare this for your husband or mother-in-law. Some luxuries must remain classified.
- For your son-in-law, you may prepare it — but only for the first year after your daughter’s marriage. After that, normal gravity applies.
- Serve it regularly to your father-in-law. Let him bless you generously.
- Offer it rarely to obedient children. Character-building is important.
- And most importantly: you may indulge in it regularly when no one is at home. Self-care is sacred.
For those observing festival fasts, this Shahi Lussi can technically replace “a little fruit here, a few nuts there, some light khichdi in between” — the way a famous Marwari fasting joke goes: the husband keeps reminding his wife to keep eating during the fast so she doesn’t become weak by evening. (Yes, this is just a joke I once read. Please don’t start a domestic debate.)
Serve chilled. Serve boldly. And accept the compliments like royalty.
