When a Businessman Becomes President, Politics Becomes Business:When Diplomacy Turns Transactional and Values Begin to Blur

A curious spectacle unfolds when a figure like Donald steps onto the global stage as both businessman and president: the world begins to look less like a community of nations and more like a sprawling marketplace. Maps seem to turn into balance sheets, alliances into deals, and even distant lands flirt with being renamed—“Donnyland” echoing not as a tribute to history, but as a branding exercise of the moment. It is almost comic: diplomacy conducted like negotiation over property, recognition pursued like a coveted trophy, and praise gathered as though it were profit.

Yet beneath the humor lies a sharper unease. When leadership leans too heavily on transaction rather than vision, politics risks losing its moral depth. Global crises—whether in the Middle East or elsewhere—cannot be reduced to calculations of gain without eroding the very purpose of governance. Symbolism begins to replace substance, and the hunger for personal legacy quietly overshadows responsibility toward people and peace.

It is here that the old Tamil proverb finds its voice: “When devils rule, even the dead begin to speak of law, morality, and discipline.” The wisdom is timeless. It reminds us that when values are inverted at the top, truth does not disappear—it resurfaces in unexpected places. The deeper concern, then, is not merely about Donald or any one leader, but about a recurring human illusion: mistaking power for wisdom, and success for moral authority.
