Song 75

Varanasi, 7-9-96, 6-30 a.m.  This poem reflects my nature these days as I live alone at Varanasi.  I enjoy it, at the same time I become tired of ‘myself’—but not with this life as a Sing.  A contradiction? Yes!              

75. உறவா? துறவா?

இரு மனதிடை ஒரு போராட்டம்

இழு பறியாய் என்னுள் பேயாட்டம் 

ஒரு மனமோ என்னை உள் இழுக்க

மறுமனமோ தாவிவிடும் மாயைக்கே 

தனிமையில் இருக்கையில் வீண் சஞ்சலம்

தாறுமாறாய் ஓடிடுதே இம்மனம் 

மனிதருடன் வாழ்ந்திட என்னும் போதோ

சோர்வின் எல்லைக்கே அது சென்றுவிடும் 

உறவும் வேண்டும் இவ்வுலகினிலே

உள்ளான ஆன்மீக வாழ்விற்கே 

தனிமையும் வேண்டும் இம் மனதிற்கே

தன்னையே ஆராய்ந்து பார்த்திடவே 

உறவும்-துறவும் ஒரு வேடிக்கை

தொல்லைமிகு இவ்வாழ்வில் இது வாடிக்கை

ஆனாலும் அவை இன்றி இவாழ்க்கை

அறியாது என்றும் ஒரு நம்பிக்கை

75. Renunciation or Relationship?

There is a struggle

In between two minds

One mind draws me within in

The other mind jumps back to maya

When I am alone there is lot of frustrations

The mind wanders aimlessly

When I think to live among people

It goes to the extreme end of tiredness

Relationship is needed on this earth

For an inner spiritual life      

But solitude is also required

In order to analyze it properly

This renunciation and relationship is a thamasha (fun)

It becomes an unavoidable requirement in this life

But without them this life

Won’t see any hope
