I still remember that day in Trichy where we lived. As I got up and went to the back side of our house to brush my teeth, I saw both the full moon in the western sky and the rising son in the east. As we lived on Rock fort which is above from the other streets below, we can also see the river Cauvery from the backside of our house. Then as the inspiration came, I wrote this song imagining that both the Moon and Sun are going round and round the earth searching for each other.
In this poem I imagined that due to their regular fight in the previous night, the sun left the next morning with much anger and showed it to the people of the earth. Moon on her part, with the company of her friends (stars) went out searching for her husband. But not knowing their condition as the hill swallowed the home going sun in the evening, they couldn’t meet again that night. But taking pity on the waning moon, Mother Nature arranged them to meet again. As both the Sun and Moon mingled with each other, Moon completely disappeared in the Sun on New Moon day. As her sulking indignation had gone, she regained her glow from the next day and each day gaining more beauty began to entice the whole world through her beautiful rays and light. As I remembered the whole song, I recorded it again from my memory.
1. ஊடலும் கூடலும் [see below for English translation]
1. Love and Separation
When the Moon appeared
Spreading her beautiful rays
She along with her
Companion of stars began her journey
She went out
Searching her husband
Who left with anger because?
Of her sulking indignation in the previous night
The Sun on his part
Showing his anger on this earth
Hurried back to
Reach his home
But the hills like a demon
Not understanding his longing
Swallowed him
When he was rushing back to his home
However, as she searched whole night
Unable to find the Sun
The Moon also lost
Its glowing radiance
Like this both Moon and Sun
Searching for each other
Went around the world
So many times, regretting for their anger
Taking pity on their condition
The Mother Nature took the decision
To help them to
Meet each other again
The Sun who was
Burning within with longing
Immediately hugged
The Moon with him
The Moon on her part
Like a shying woman
As mingled with him
That day become New moon day
As her sulking indignation has gone
Regaining her beauty again
She began to grow day by day
In order to entice the world
