Song 141
141 Present
All that is past is gone
All that we have done came to an end
But we should try to make
The Present sweet one.
Lamenting on the past
Or boasting about our accomplishment
Won’t be useful
For our present
The lesson that we learnt is good
And the blessings that we received are great
But what is the use of them alone
For our present?
Learning through the lessons
Which we learnt through our experience
Correcting all the mistakes
We need to continue to work
Thinking about the future
However we plan for it
Only if we learn to live in the present
We can accomplish them in future
Not living in the past
Not disturbed thinking about the future
If we began to live in the present
Our life will become complete one.
8-2-16, Mathigiri 6.00 am.
This morning when I was thinking about the program which I conducted at Bangaluru yesterday (7-2-16), I was thinking that I could have done it better. Then I began to reflect on what are the things that I could have changed, what is the alternative way by which I could have conveyed my message etc. When I was thinking about this, I realized that there is no use of contemplating too much on the things that we have done. Though we can learn and ought to learn so many things from the past, we cannot plan our future only based on them, as they cannot be our best model. The best way to plan and face the future is to live in the present making it more meaningful for us and others. When this thought came I wrote this song.
Song 142
142. Pathetic beings
Among all the living beings on this earth
We human are most pathetic one
Unable to accept our condition
At the same time unable to renounce it—among….
Having a heart and also a mind
And confused with both heart and mind
Not knowing which is correct and which is not
Unable to accept even if we know it—among…
Having relationship and also rights with others
And seeing the struggle between the relationship and rights
Unable to give it up at the same time to continue it
Having a life with no answer—among…
Accumulating so many things, at the same time not satisfied
And running after something longing for it
And unable to know what that also
Even if we understand, unable to attain it—among…
Completing the life which is clear and unclear many times
And leaving the space for the coming generation
And disappearing not even leaving any trace about us
And not finding any meaning for the life that is lived–among
10, 11-2-16, Mathigiri, 11.30 pm.
As we have conscience and can make moral decisions, among all the creatures on earth, I think we humans are more pathetic creatures. We have many contradictions in life. AT the same time, we have to live with them as there is no escape from them. When we observe the animal world, relatively they have a blessed life; however, they are not aware of it. At the same time, even this blessedness that we find in them is our own projection and imagination based on our miserable life compared with them. As I was thinking on this subject, I wrote this song on 10th which I completed on 11th night.
Song 143
143. Disappointment
As we expect something
We all are disappointed ones
Somehow as others get cheated
All are here deceivers
As all have expectation
All are deceived ones
As all have disappointment
We all are cheated ones.
Either gets cheated or we cheat others
There is no life without expectation
Saying that, ‘I live without expectation’
Is the statement of the one who gets cheated.
However, we live either by cheating or get cheated
Final victor belongs to no one
And as we all run to receive that unattainable victory
There is no fool like human beings.
12-2-16, Mathigiri, 11.30 pm.
Expectations lead to disappointment. At the same time, we all have some expectations in life. So, getting cheated or feeling cheated is part of this game. Similarly, we too cheat others, though several times we are not aware of it or ready to recognize it. The interesting fact in this tussle of cheating and getting cheated is that none get success and this makes us fools. The way same Tamil words (ஏமாந்து, ஏமாற்றி) is used in different ways, it is difficult to translate in other language.
Song 144
144 I am a crazy fellow
I have scribbled
In words
Whichever thought?
That went in my mind
I have written
Something which
I myself
Don’t understand
When words are
Available free of cost
Anybody can write
Something
There is no
Need for anyone to read
And no one
Need to appreciate it
When I write
For my own need
I don’t be a poet
And I am a fake
When I write
Whichever comes to mind?
Why any need
For others to appreciate?
I am not a poet
Applauded by learned people
And I never become a
Popular poet too
As I scribble
Something
Which comes to my mind?
I am a crazy fellow.
12-2-16 (13-2-16), 12.30 am.
After writing the previous song (secular song 143), I get ready to go to bed. Then I said to myself, as I write all the thoughts that come to my mind, several times I look like a ‘Kirukkan’ (crazy fellow) to myself. Then, before going to bed, I wrote this song too.
Song 145
145 What we learnt is handful
There should be clarity in whatever we say
There should be a thought in all writings
Though words are there to write anything
There should be clarity of thought in our thinking
Thousands of thought will emerge in mind
Along with argument will arise in our heart
And using our buddhi in it
We should analyse which is correct and which is not
May wise (wo)men came and went
And they gave so many thoughts
Though we have all these
They compiled so many new thoughts to be shared
Though the final end will come
And many will disappear at the end (of their life)
The unceasing thoughts alone
Will continue without having any end.
How much is shared they are not enough for our mind
How much we read the buddhi will never become full
The mind which is deep and wide
How much we learn, won’t find the end.
17-2-16, Mathigiri, 2.30 pm
Reading (too) much is both a blessing and a peril. When we think that the author has done a better job by presenting her thoughts in a more cohesive and logical way, another reading will show the inconsistency in it. Next to the (all) physical need, one thing that drives human need is the mental hunger which seeks new thoughts and interpretation. As long as we have a reflecting mind, this hunger will remain unquenchable one.
