Secular Songs 146 to 150

Secular Song 146

History is the record of those who succeeded. This is not limited to who established great kingdoms by winning others. So many individuals become immortal through their contribution for the upliftment of humanity as a whole and individuals on a personal level. They stand unique among all other human beings. Who will fit this description is left to every individual to decide.

146  Who is their equal?

Many are there who won the world through their knowledge

But who is there who won the world through their love?

Many become great in this world through their noble character

But who is there who gave the very life for others to live?

There are many ways to become great in this world

There are many ways to become successful through toil

There are many chances to rule the world through buddhi

But who is there who came to redeem the world?

Many are the Kings who ruled the world

Many are the noble person who excelled through their learning

Many overcame themselves through their penance

But who is there who gave himself joyfully for others?

Only those who became great because of their uniqueness

And who showed the path others to become great like them

They alone become immortal by achieving great fame

And they showed the path for us to be redeemed.

Secular Song 147

Human life is an unending race.  Whoever created it or how it began, it will continue though individuals might disappear after running their part.  This is a never ending story like Mega TV serials, though somehow started by a director or producer not knowing how to end.

147 Unending Race

Though the race is finished

Yet we have to run

We have to dance

Though the program came to an end

We need to long continuously

Though we lost interest in longing

We continue to seek

Though the needs came to an end—we need to run

Impossibility is

The final say

Not the final one

As long as we have

The longing to attempt

Though we long to complete

Thinking that it came to an end

Yet we need to continue to run in the life

As the unceasing life continuous permanently—we need to run

We too join the race

To do our part in it

Those who joined with us in the middle

also ran as part of their share

as each one’s running came to an end

and to give room for others to run

like an unceasing race

in this life which runs without any end—we need to run

148. Get tossed

Who does not have suffering?

And who does not have sorrows?

Can I think only about me?

O my mind?

Living for oneself

And focusing on oneself

Will make us to become lonely

And we will stand alone

And we will be tossed

Like a dust on the wave

Without any one

To share our burden

Thinking about others’ welfare

And thinking about their life

If we cooperate with others

We too will be comforted

We never born on our own

And we never grew on our own

Without the help of others

We will never reach our destiny

Realizing this

And cooperating with others

Helping others as much as possible

We need to live naturally.

4.3.16, Mathirigi, 2.30 pm.

As I lay down, I was just recalling my own life in which I have to run the race on several levels. Then I thought: ‘now too I have to continue to run as there are no other options.  However, several physical limitations can slow the race,’ I said, the first line in Tamil that I have to run though I claim that my running came to an end.  Then I wrote this song reflecting life as a whole.  Like most of the songs, I find it difficult to convey what I have written in Tamil in English.  The way I use the same word with different meanings is difficult for me to translate in English.

Song 149

Another song out of frustration thinking about the issues and problems that stand in queue.  As there is no escape from any kind of responsibility.  For me, reflecting on them and pouring down my frustration through a poem is the best relief.

149. Burden

Who would like struggles in life

Who can tolerate carrying a burden?

The life on earth is very heavy one

Better to get escaped as we carried enough

If one is gone another will come

Each one will stand in line following each other

Whichever is accomplished, there is no peace

And there is no use living like this

But where to run leaving anything?

Frustration will spoil the game

We need courage to have patience

Those who have patience will rule.

First we need to accomplish which is possible one

Once we complete that work, we will get encouragement

Then through experience pulling up the sacks

With the help of others we need to carry the burden.

4-3-16, Mathigiri, 2.40 pm.

Self pity often forces one to think about oneself and concentrate more on the issue that she faces.  That time many try to play the victim card or lament that no one understands them.  Though we need not compare our life with others, yet the traditional wisdom is to compare the difficulties and challenges others face more than us and pull up the sacks to cope with the reality of life.  And the best way to overcome self pity and depression is to reach out to those who suffer more than us—not to feel some comfort that ‘I am better than others’ but to understand the unique principle that ‘human are social animal’. That life would be a natural one and remaining aloof from others is unnatural to human nature and need. This reaching out to others need not be limited only through physical act, but that is the best one as per my understanding.  At the same time, when other’s seek our help in any other form, we should give our time to them without giving any excuses that we don’t have time.

Song 150

150 Ideology (conviction)

They proclaim so many ideologies

And promote them by arranging meetings

Once the drama ends and the crowd get dispersed

They become an object of ‘thamasha’.

They refuse to understand that

The words which they babbled out of emotion won’t withstand

And those who gathered to shout slogans along with them

Also disappear in the same speed as they gathered

Not understanding what does it mean to have conviction?

And the methods to proclaim it also not proper

Just making tall claims

They unable to achieve anything

Having a clear understanding about the principle which they have

And remain firm in their call for others to follow

Though left alone till the end

They won’t make any compromise

Without thinking properly and act

Thinking that they are creating ‘history’

All the talks which they utter in passing

Will be gone along with the wind, once the crowd is gone

One should begin the ideal within oneself first

And ready to pay a cost for it

Once the emotion and commotion come to an end

Remaining calm they should try to implement it.

6-3-16, Mathigiri, 11.00 pm.

As the competition among the 24X7 media become intense to keep their TRP, now society is facing so many new problems.  One among such is the media hype.  One best example that comes to my mind is the famous fasting of Anna Hazari in 2014.  In the name of presenting the ‘TRUTH’ nothing but ‘TRUTH’ what all the medias present is their own version that suits their (idealistic) purpose.  In the recent past several such media hypes which promoted so many people either as heroes or victims (be it govt. versus others; or group versus groups; etc). Once they served their purpose, they too threw away those who helped them to create such hypes. And people who with initial zeal and enthusisam taking both the crowd and media as the true supporters for their cause, began to make big speeches and promise to fight till the end.  But without having personal conviction for which one need to pay a high cost, based on mere commotion and emotion, cannot withstand the test of the time. All cannot be Gandhji who LIVED UP TO HIS CREED’.  How many time we hear the TV anchors praising the resilient spirit of certain individuals or group promised to keep their struggle alive completely dumped them within few days.  The same is the case with many followers.  Those who have personal conviction alone can with stand till the end to fight for the cause to which they committed.
