BT Songs 516 to 520

BT Song 516

As I continue to read another topic in the book:  Indian Quest for Salvation between Emancipation and Unification’ by Andre Padoux in Andreas Bsthe (ed.), Hinduism questioning Christianity: Christian Faith in the Encounter with Hinduism, vol. 1, Modling, 2007, St Gabriedl Publications, originally first published in German: A. Bsteh (ed.,), Der Hinduismus als Anfrage an christliche Theologie und Philosophie (Studien Zur Religionstheologies; 3). Modling, 1997, Translation by Ingeborg Bogensberge, Vienna, in cooperation with John MMercer and Adrianne Nagy DaPonte, Boston, pp. 219-247, the only thought that came to my mind was, ‘nothing looks simple in life—either in mundane activities or in metaphysics.  Even the bhakti which I adopted in my sadhana is more challenging than any other paths.  Though God gives convincing answers to all my questions and inner struggle, He refuses to give the language for me to communicate with others.  And I find this alone is very simple and I am happy to accept and remain silent not sharing the answers that He gives to me.

BT Song 516

BT Song 516 Simple way

Nothing is so simple

As it looks

None has

Found that

Simple way

To attain it

Even though

God has come

And redeemed us

Still we cannot

Accept that too

As a very simple one.

Meanwhile

Many are the questions

That my mind asked

Refusing to accept it

How much it argued.

Though no proper

Conclusion has arrived

Yet the arguing  nature

Has never gone from me.

Though I was defeated

In all my intellectual debates

And accepted

The simple path of bhakti,

Even this bhakti too

Never came easy for me!

Finally I searched the

Answer for that too

And asked God

To show that to me.

Having pity on me

He showed that way

But refused to give

The language to communicate it!

As I found this also

Good one

Accepting it

I keep quiet.

BT Song 517

As I am reading again about the Indian worldview of ‘maya’ and the illusory nature of the world, I compared it with the Muktivedic view, which accepts the reality of the world in all its form.  Amidst all the suffering and pain, it encourages us to celebrate the material blessing that God has given us and rejoice in Him.  Though we  have ‘bliss’ as the climax of our spirituality/mukti in Hinduism too, for common people it presents a bleak picture about the world and life.  Even the mukti which it promotes is more a means to escape from the karma-samsara and all kinds of dhukkas [sufferings] .  A gloomy, pessimistic view of the world, life and mukti is an invisible inner current in our Indian worldview.  Though sin is projected as its counterpart in Muktiveda, yet the overall picture that we get is celebration of life, bhakti and mukti.  Rejoice always in the Lord; again I say rejoice—says the bhakta amidst all his suffering.

BT Song 517

BT Song 517 Not maya

Is it a dream or true or imagination

And all that we see are mere illusions?

Do the body along with senses

Which experience is false?

Is there any meaning in living

If life is considered as ‘maya’ (illusion)

This a philosophy of the defeated one

And  a philosophy which was defeated by the successful one

Will we remain crippled

By saying everything as maya

Come on and stand up

And march forward with much courage

The world which we see is not mere dream

Nothing in it is maya

The life that we live is not mere waste

And life is not without any meaning

We are not created vainly

And never sent with empty hands

He bestowed friends and relatives

Along with this earth as a gift

He asked us to be fruitful and multiply

And asked us to rule over the entire earth

And asked us to live by sharing

And told us to accept responsibility for that

And those who understood this, progressed in life

And lived a magnificent life

And taking others along with them

Helped them to understand the greatness of creation

Let us also join with them

And help everyone to live

And live happily knowing that

This is the will of God

BT Song 518

The way and reason for God to redeem me and make me His own still remains a mystery to me.  Maybe as He does not want to lose what belongs to him, he showed this extra grace in my life to make me His own. So there is a reason for me to go to His presence to celebrate this mystery with Him always.

BT Song 518

BT Song 518 Took saranagati (refuge)

Seeking peace of mind I came in your presence

Who else is there as the abode for lowly ones

You alone become the treasure for the poor one

And you bestowed that noble status even to me

I live because of you and praise you with whole heart

I get wetted each day in the rain of your grace

I bow at your holy feet by offering myself for you

And I rejoice as I do your seva

How much joy is there in praising you

And my heart melts as I sing your praise

When I think about your act my eyes are filled with tears

And living with you always is the merit (punya) that I attained

You gave the boon to live alone

And you gave me the right to live within you

How many concessions that you gave for me

Somehow you have a special concern for me

Why you have this much mercy upon me

And when I think about it I really wonder

There is some reason for this

And I am longing to know about it

Would it be the first love you had for me

Or is it your mercy as I lived without knowing you

Is it your right that I belong to you even before I was formed (in the womb)

Or is it your duty once I become yours

Whatever it might be, you become my own

Therefore you give everything in  full measure

How you will say ‘no’ once I ask whatever I want

Therefore you showed your grace with much responsibility

Therefore I came unto your holy presence

And received that noble status in you

Becoming a bhakta is your best gift

And I took refuge at your feet

BT Song 519

As I was reading about ‘The Path of Knowledge’ by Gerhard Oberhammer [in Andreas Bsthe (ed.), Hinduism questioning Christianity: Christian Faith in the Encounter with Hinduism, vol. 1, Modling, 2007, St Gabriedl Publications, originally first published in German: A. Bsteh (ed.,), Der Hinduismus als Anfrage an christliche Theologie und Philosophie (Studien Zur Religionstheologies; 3). Modling, 1997, Translation by Ingeborg Bogensberge, Vienna, in cooperation with John MMercer and Adrianne Nagy DaPonte, Boston,] and the following question and answer time in Hinduism Questioning Christianity, I wrote this song.

BT Song 519

BT Song 519 Simple means

‘This is the final end of mukti’

How can I say which one is that

What is required to attain mukti

And which one can I say definitely

Is it the true wisdom

Which will severe the cycle of rebirths?

Is it the noble status

To become one with God

Or is it that spiritual truth to know that

“I am god”

Or is it a discipline to found that

Emptiness (sunyata, nirvana) within me

Once all these paths remain unreachable

Where is a simple way to attain mukti

When I was get frustrated about it

He came as the guru to tell about it to me

He told in a way that I can understand

And not stopping once showing the way

He took my hands and walked along with me

Till I  reached that destiny

Those who will receive this simple path

Will receive mukti like me

And those who argue debating various philosophies

Will remain not receiving it

BT Song 520

As I went for my evening walk, some kind of worshipping spirit preoccupied my mind. While walking I began to sing some songs.  Then as inspiration came, I wrote this song in my mind and when I came down I wrote this song.

BT Song 520

BT Song 520 The blessed ones

Come to sing and rejoice in him

tell me what you are lacking in him

He is the one who came with us each day

and the one who bestowed without limitation

Think all the blessings

which He bestowed so far in your life

can you easily forget them

give me the answer for that.

though you asked very few things

He added more and gave you all

and praise him thinking what you have received

and receive more and more whichever he will give further

He is equal only unto him

and I say this knowing very well

once you too understood this, why you hesitate

and do you feel shy to sing the praise of that holy one

as we join together and praise

what kind of joy is over flowing

when we praise and hail him

the world is also celebrates understanding that

‘who is the one who received this ‘

only you ask about it to me

‘only those who worship him with bhakti

alone are the blessed one’, I will say this
