BT Songs 671 to 675

BT Song 671

I was in a joyful mood to sing and worship the Lord.  So when I sat for my quiet time as the inspiration immediately overflowed I wrote this song praising the Lord.

…In his mortality and weakness the human being stands in antithesis to God (cf. Num. 23:19f.; Isa. 31:3), but in his role of ruler he approximates a heavenly being.— Bruce K. Waltke and James M. Houston, with Erika Moore, The Psalms As Christian Worship: A Historical Commentary, Grand Rapids, Michigan, William B. Eerdmans Publishing Company, 2010. [Psalm 8: I Am Rules Through “Infants”] p. 268

BT Song 671

BT Song 671 The purpose of living

I should come unto you

I should receive by asking you

Worshiping your feet

I should receive your grace

I understood the purpose of the life

While I am living

When I worship you, O Charitable one

It becomes complete

Not living here thinking

That somehow we born on this earth

Thinking that we born only for this

We should worship your feet

Not knowing the goal in our lives

Without having any motivation

If we too live like animals

What is the use of this human birth?

You kept us as the crown of creation

You gave all the creation in our hands

You also gave the discerning spirit

To understand the purpose of your creation

Though all other living creatures

Live according to the law of nature

Setting a separate law for us

You created us in your own Image

Realizing its greatness

Knowing you through that greatness

Worshiping you each day

There is purpose for this life

Understanding this I come unto you

I am living only for this

In order to live like this always

I came seeking only this boon

BT Song 672

After writing the previous song (671) I began to pray.  Then I said in my prayer the first line as my prayer. Unable to continue, as the inspiration again put pressure, stopping prayer I wrote this song and sung it as my prayer for this night.  I know that this is a kind of emotion.  At the same time my mind (brain) refuses to put it under the category of mere sensation.  It goes beyond mere emotion but my body understands only through the normal experience and expression of emotion.

BT Song 672 Beyond emotion (sensation?)

When I worship you

Singing your praises

Some kind of

Bliss comes within me

When I live for you

On this earth

Your grace comes and

Automatically upholds me

But my inner sense

Assures me that

This is not because of

Mere emotion

Once you have

Mingled within me

Even language is hesitating

To share this

As I write new

Poem everyday

I come unto your feet

To bow you

You too accepting

My praises

Rejoice

Mingling with me

How can I communicate?

Unless my heart says

What kind of

Status is this?

Why should I

Even share with the world

About the relationship

Which stands even beyond mere emotion?

Once you come

And mingle with me

Let us dwell together

In that blissfulness forever

BT Song 673

Again a tragic story of a girl eloping with her boyfriend without the knowledge of her parents. But this is not a new thing. But the real tragedy was that when they saw the alliance for her with another boy, she gave her consent for that and even roamed with that boy for several months.  They talked for several hours over the phone. One time the girl even asked the boy to register for marriage as her parents delayed the engagement.  But the boy refused to do it.  Finally when the D-day came to finalize the engagement, the girl called the boy and said that she does not want to marry him as she has loved another boy for the past five years. Socked by that when he passed the information to the girl’s family, she threatened to commit suicide finally eloped with her old boy friend.   This shocked the girl’s family also. Finally unable to share this news with others and at the same time unable to swallow, the boy told his relatives that the girl side is unwilling to give the girl to him.  And he was a bit depressed as the previous girl with whom they almost arranged also ditched him, refusing to marry him.  Unable to share with others at the same time, unable to keep within him a few days he remains depressed.

Several such incidents happen to so many people. Unable to share at the same time, unable to swallow, many suffer silently.  Sometimes those who try to comfort those who are already depressed begin to share their own plights thinking that it will console the suffering person.  Thereby both unable to unload their burden, they have to live carrying it.

Though I first typed this song in Secular song, finally as I ended this poem that God alone can give comfort I brought it to Bhakti Theology, though it won’t fit neatly to this genre.

BT Song 673

BT Song 673 A pleasant pain

Some kind of sorrow is within

A kind of silence also press upon it

Putting a mask outside and suffocating within

Many live acting outwardly in life

They try to share but unable to do it

And hide their sorrow unable to digest

Suffering within the heart and silently bearing it

They live like a dead man walking

If it shared then they feel shy; if keep within then it becomes painful

Unable to bear they carry a heavy burden

As they cannot find means to unload it

They always carry this burden within them

Even if someone tries to comfort them

She on her part unloads her burden upon them

As they cannot find a clear answer

They both bewildered without finding an exit.

It is impossible for human to give answer to this

However they try they cannot find the answer

Hoping that one day time will resolve the crises

They somehow live suffering within

Taking even this kind of pain a kind of pleasure

not get standard but believing in God

repenting and mending one’s own mistake

It is better to live accepting what has come

BT Song 674

After reading the chapter ‘Ramayana Exegesis in Tenkalai Srivaisnavism, by Patricia Y. Mumme, in Paula Richman , ed. Many Ramayanas: The Diversity of a Narrative Tradition in South Asia, UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA PRESS, Berkeley · Los Angeles · Oxford, 1991, pp. 202-216, p. 207-08, I Wrote this song, first not agreeing that unless we cooperate even God cannot save but finally understanding the exegesis based on the parables explained by Mumme in this chapter, I wrote this song.  For a better understanding read the entire chapter:

…The story has it that Ravana’s demon army of raksasas used the Brahmastra, a divine weapon which binds its enemies and thus renders them helpless, against the monkey Hanuman, who was acting as Rama’s emissary. But the Brahmastra only works if the user has complete faith in it. When the raksasas decided to bring in a jute cord to further secure the bound Hanuman, just to be on the safe side, the Brahmastra slipped off. Manavalamamuni (p.207) explains: “The Brahmastra that had tied him slipped off by itself at the moment another cord was tied on. In the same way, if one who has resorted to this upaya [the Lord himself] engages in another upaya , [the first] will leave him” (JS 28). For the Tenkalai acaryas , the analogy between the Brahmastra and prapatti (surrender) is instructive: one might think that means such as devotion and ritual action will enhance the efficacy of one’s surrender to the Lord, but in fact these will cause one to lose the Lord. The path of surrender demands complete cessation of one’s own efforts and faith in the capacity of the Lord alone to bring about salvation.—pp. 207-08

BT Song 674

BT Song 674 an ignorant boy

Am I not supposed to do bhakti unto you

And fall at your holy feet

Am I not to surrender my mind unto you?

And not worship your feet?

I know that I cannot understand by my buddhi

Even someone try to teach still I cannot realize

Even if I do all kinds of karma and charity I won’t know

And there is none other than you to help me to reach the Further Shore

Yet when you come and give your grace

O my Lord should I not receive it

By clapping one hand we cannot make noise

Unless I come and ask you too cannot give

There is no use eating without feeling hungry

O my God, when I refuse you cannot give

When you come to save I should reach your feet

And give myself surrendering to you

But if I stand still unable to do even that

O my Lord, you should come (voluntarily) to give your grace

To this little boy who is unable even to ask

You should give even without being asked

Like a tinny baby which knows only to cry

When it feels hunger, I too

Unable to ask what should be sought

Realizing my need, you should bestow

BT Song 675

Another beautiful early morning.  As I sat to worship the Lord, looking around me as I am confined with the walls of a small room without having some open space with nice scenery surrounded by nature, I said to the Lord whatever might be the circumstance or situation as your grace is there surrounding me to protect, I will enjoy that blissfulness because of my bhakti.  Then as the inspiration came I wrote this song to worship him through these words.

BT Song 675 In all circumstances

Whatever might be the circumstance?

In whichever situation you keep me

Your wonderful grace will

Remain surrounding me to protect

Thinking each movement by folding my hands

As the tears flow, my heart melts

Experiencing that blissful state because of bhakti

I bow my head at your holy feet

Each part of nature singing your praise

By proclaiming that you are God

Bowing at you always singing your glory

My heart also join them thinking about you

Each day as I get this kind of moments

Waiting upon you longing only for this

As you too come towards me expecting only this

I offered myself to you for you to accept me

You created me so that I can know you

You gave yourself for me so that I can be saved

I will live on this earth for others to know about it

And will sing your praise to the content of my heart

As I have this kind of situation for me

As I praise you who bestowed it to me

Let it be any kind of circumstance

While your grace surrounds me to protect
