When I think about the plight in human life, with all its struggles to survive, I could not understand the meaning and purpose of it. When I go deep down within me, observing my own personal life and that of others, I consider that the very purpose of human life is meaningless. Where it started, how it is going to end? Faith; Trust; God—but Reason stumbles several times. This is the background of this poem. At the same time when we allow the REASON to have the final word in life, then such despair about life is inevitable. Though there are so many views on the role of reason in our lives, the following one I like very much:
If we do not seek our unity in God, we shall remain individuals, and nothing else, to the end of the chapter. Nay, we may even lose, in time, the power of godlike Reason itself and sink back into the beast. For Reason alone has never been able to control the lower passions of lust and greed. It cannot by itself hold them in subjection, night and day. They become uncontrolled and uncontrollable, until at last Reason itself is swept away. This has been the experience, not only of individuals, but of nations. The danger is ever at hand; and whole civilisations have perished when the inner spiritual impulse has been either lost or destroyed.— Daniel O’Connor, The Testimony of C F Andrews, CLS, Madras, 1974, p. 212

84 Our story
Life is a long story without having an end
It is a small story not knowing about the end
Even God who began it
Does not know how to end it!
It is a meaningless story
Which continue for several thousand years
Therefore, all the characters in it
Do not know about their role in it
Many are the history
Which came and disappeared in it
Nobody knows the end of it
Which keeps on going?
Those who reached the end of life says that
It is nothing but emptiness
But the new generation which came after them said that
The life is there only to live
But what is the truth in it
I do not know
Yet I as I cannot avoid it
I continue to live in it
Is it the will of God or
Is it his leela (divine play?)
O God, till this day
I didn’t receive the answer for it
