BT Song 1736
Again, I began to read too much. I went to the library and brought back several books. In the same way, though I try to avoid writing and prefer to spend time in quiet reflection—because my mind is always turning over many themes—I still cannot avoid writing. To justify my busyness, I told myself that even remaining inactive is a kind of activity; better to remain active as long as both body and mind allow. As I was thinking in this line, I wrote this song as my prayer to the Lord.
BT Song 1736: No Other Way
1
What is mine to speak—
I truly cannot say;
What is mine to do—
I cannot find my way.
2
A life that rises
Without word or deed
Has not yet entered
The inner space I need.
3
To remain silent
Is not hard at all—
Except when no one
Awaits my voice or call.
4
Yet staying silent
Is never easy too,
When I must live each day
Alone with only “me”
5
To live without action
Is hard—I surely know;
For even in stillness
Some hidden acts will grow.
6
When I pause and ponder
On all that drifts in me,
I fail to understand
What my life is meant to be.
7
While speech and action
Stand still, unsure, midway—
Between the two I’m caught,
Drifting day by day.
8
So I write something,
Or do a little—somehow;
For to live, I must move—
There is no other way now.

BT Song 1737
God who created us knows what to do and when to do it for us. Though this does not deny our free will or our cooperation, still, when old age comes, both body and mind fail to cooperate—even to use that free will to discern the Will of God. Tonight, thinking about my future and the time when I may have to depend completely on others even to move, I told the Lord in my conversation that unless He acts on His own and decides, there is no point expecting me to think and act first.
But as usual, after writing four stanzas, I changed my prayer—reminding Him that this does not mean He can do everything only according to His Will, and that He must still consult me before taking any decision!
I always drag God into some kind of contention, and I like it as a form of bhakti.
BT Song 1737: Think with Care
1
If you act in wisdom,
Seeing all with your own light,
The days that still remain
Will move in gentle right.
2
But if you choose by impulse,
Following only “you,”
Clarity will vanish—
Nothing will stay true.
3
Earlier, you would join me,
Thinking side by side;
You listened to my words
And walked with me as guide.
4
But now that path is closed;
No chance for shared reflection—
No space to sit and ponder,
No room for our direction.
5
So do not fall to thinking
Your will alone is best;
Do not assume your liking
Should lead you in the rest.
6
You know quite well already
How you and I once planned—
What to do, and when,
And how each task should stand.
7
You know it all so clearly;
So now, as then, you must
Walk that same wise pathway—
In faith, in steady trust.
8
If ever doubt approaches
At any time of day,
Come once to me and share—
Consult me on the way.
9
So think with care as before,
As we always used to do;
And act in that same spirit—
Let that guide you through.
10
Apart from this, whatever
You think to do alone,
Do nothing without asking—
Not one act on your own.

BT Song 1738
The line that divides fatalism and the Will of God is not only thin but often blurred. Yet, a bhakta who trusts God knows that in spite of his limitations and the pressures of life, whatever happens, happens according to the Will of God. So he continues to walk in that path—not only trusting but knowing fully that everything is under God’s control, even when life becomes challenging. It is rightly said that God never promises a safe voyage, but always assures a safe landing.
BT Song 1738: You Are the One Who Leads
1
Should I believe
You are the One who guides?
Or shall I claim
It is I who decides?
2
It is You who leads—
I know this well;
What more is left
For me to do or tell?
3
If answers do not
Come from You, my Lord,
To whom shall I turn?
Whose counsel can I afford?
4
And if they speak,
Is their word truly Yours?
Or only their voice—
How shall my heart be sure?
5
Do not leave me hanging
Like Trishanku in the sky;
Do not let me wander
Without a path to try.
6
You called, “Come behind,”
With a voice so tender;
But if You refuse to walk ahead,
Whom then shall I follow under?
7
No bird exists
Unaware of its flight;
No living being
Forgets its inner light.
8
Without both guidance
And the way to see—
I have no fear
Of what becomes of me.
9
Still I go forward—
There is no other way;
I have no alternate
Path to choose today.
10
Whichever direction
My journey goes through,
It is still Your way—
Certain, deep, and true.
11
So I walk believing
You alone will lead;
And with that trust in you,
I have no fear indeed.

BT Song 1739
This morning, as I was not feeling well due to vertigo-like dizziness—which has not gone away even after regular exercise—I began to scold the Lord for not paying attention to my needs. After some rest, when I recovered a bit, I received a call from another senior person who had faced similar health issues. My conversation with him brought some clarity and also relieved pressure regarding several other issues, though none of them were actually solved.
This evening, during my regular walk and exercise, I told the Lord in my conversation that He should pay attention—whether it is to listen to my praises again, or to continue receiving my scolding! As the inspiration came, I wrote this song.
Kannadasan wrote in one film that life is a mixture of both laughter and tears. Yet, many times one is forced into laughing while weeping and weeping while laughing. He wrote that for the particular context of the film Paava Mannippu (“Naan Azhudukkonde Sirikkiren”). But in real life, though I often rebuke and scold the Lord, I cannot do both at the same time—unless He is willing to accept my scolding as praise.
BT Song 1739 A Bitter Sweet
1
Though you scold me
Whenever you choose,
You still end up giving
Only blessings I can use.
2
Even when fully
I understand this truth,
Somehow I fail
To stop my angry youth.
3
Why must you bear
So many sharp words?
Why stand before me
To take every sword?
4
What joy you found
In bearing it all—
You must tell me
When those moments fall.
5
You never tired
Of taking my blame;
But scolding you daily
Wore me down in shame.
6
Do not take this
As playful banter;
Do not accept again
My careless anger.
7
Can sweetness and bitterness
Live side by side?
Can praise and reproach
In one heart abide?
8
How can I manage
Such opposites true?
Give me the answer—
It must come from you.
9
Bitterness and sweetness
Blend in life’s art;
None ever lived
Without tasting both parts.
10
Yet together at once—
Can both ever stay?
That answer still
Eludes me today.
11
A moment of laughter,
A moment of tears—
Thus life has spoken
Across all our years.
12
Shall we forever
Laugh while we cry?
Or weep through laughter
As ages go by?
13
Some may advise
Such mingling of sorrow;
A poet might write
A song for the morrow.
14
Stories may craft
Such wonders in ink,
But real life never
Works quite as we think.
15
So take my scolding
If that suits you best,
Or take my praise
As in days now at rest.
16
Tell me which path
Is gentler for you—
I’ll follow it gently
In all I now do.
Gurukulam, November, Evening 6:15
BT Song 1740
Day by day my health is deteriorating. Added to the regular problems of back, heel, and neck pain, along with managing pressure and sugar with the pacemaker, now vertigo has also taken hold of my body. Though some exercises help to control it, I still often feel sudden dizziness.
Though I remain careful, I cannot live with such health issues for long without someone staying with me. I cannot afford a caretaker, nor am I sure who would be willing to come and stay in such a remote place. At the same time, my condition is not severe enough to justify having one.
Considering all these health concerns and the difficulties of maintaining such a large property, I am unsure what to do. I feel stuck, unable to move forward. Unable to sleep, I got up, had my tea, and as I was sitting and praying, I wrote this as my prayer to the Lord.
BT Song 1740 Who is Responsible
1
Beyond this point,
I cannot bear the load;
To speak it out again—
My strength has overflowed.
2
So I have come,
Leaning close to you;
Tell me now,
What more should I do?
3
Apart from you
I have no bond;
Except at your feet
My heart grows fond.
4
The body’s journey
Ends with earthly breath;
But the knowing mind
Lives on in you past death.
5
Yet until that time,
My fragile life on earth
Has turned each passing day
Into a silent, aching dearth.
6
Is the cause of all this
My birth so incomplete?
Or is it your design—
The burden at your feet?
7
But that is not
My question now;
What comes next—
Show me somehow.
8
When what I seek
Refuses to unfold,
To whom shall I speak,
Where shall the complaint be told?
9
If no one else
Can help me through,
Then who but you
Can take responsibility too?
10
Beyond this point
What more to say?
When nothing is left
To act or to pray.

BT Song 1736:
1
என்பது தெரியல;
2
3
கடினமே இல்ல;
4
இருக்கவும் முடியல;
5
எளிதல்ல — அறிவேன்;
6
4
வாய்ப்புமே இல்லை;
5
6
7
நன்றாகத் தெரியும்;
8
9
10
1
2
இதுவும் தெரியும்;
3
4
5
தொங்கவிடாதே;
6
“பின்வா” என்று
7
பறவை இல்லை;
8
9
வழிவேறு இல்லை;
10
11
நீயும் கண்டாய்;
5
6
எடுத்துக் கொள்ளாதே;
7
8
9
கலந்ததே வாழ்வு;
10
11
12
13
சில பேர் சொல்லலாம்;
14
15
16
என்பதைச் சொல்லு;
BT Song 1740:
1
எனக்கு முடியாது;
2
அண்டி வந்தேன்;
3
உறவு இல்லை;
4
மாநுட வாழ்க்கை;
5
6
7
