BT Sogs 1551 to 1555

BT Song 1551

This morning, while bathing at my cousin’s house in Hosur (Swaminathan alias Pitchai), I contemplated certain things happening in our life. We should avoid dancing to everyone’s tune. When returning with his son Siva, we talked about many things, and I shared this unwritten poem with him. After returning to the ashram to celebrate my return to the Paradise Regained, I sat calmly for an hour after Ratna and Sankar left. Siva also left quickly for a meeting in Bangalore. After an hour of silence, recalling my talk with Siva, I wrote this song, changing the word ‘fear,’ and shared it with the group and others.

BT Song 1551 Don’t listen to anyone

Simple English

Why should we listen

To others

When many of them are

Already within us

If you listen to the world

There is no use in it

If you listen to the relatives

You will be paralyzed

There’s no use

In listening to God

As He provides

In a limited way

There’s no use

In listening to me

As I don’t understand

Even what I say

Finally, if the question

Ever comes in your mind:

In the end, to whom shall

I listen to?

It is better to

Remain silent

Not listening to anyone

As that’s good for all

As I often

Practice it

I share from

My experience

Therefore, if you too

Remain silent

You can understand this

Truth for sure

Then there is

No need to

Read such

Babbling like this

Gurukulam, 4-1-24, 12.15 pm

BT Song 1551 Listen Not to Any Man

Classical English

Why dost thou heed

The words of others

When among us dwell

So many already?

To hearken to the world

Is of no avail

And to thy kin

Shall render thee impotent

No benefit is found

In God’s counsel

For He doth give

With measured hand

Nor in my speech

Is wisdom to be found

For I comprehend not

Even my own words

At last, should the query

Arise within thy breast:

In the end, to whom

Shall I lend my ear?

Better to maintain

A silent vigil

Heeding no man’s voice

For such is the greater good

Thus have I oft

Practiced in my days

And from my wisdom

Do I now impart

If thou, too, shalt keep

Silent vigil

This truth shall thou

Surely grasp

And thereafter, need

For such babbling words

As these

Shall vanis

BT Song 1552

Another Rumi’s effect:

A certain person came to the Friend’s door

and knocked

                    “Who’s there?”

“It’s me.”

The Friend answered, “Go away.  There’s no place

for raw meat at this table.”

The individual went wandering for a year.

Nothing but the fire of separation

can change hypocrisy and ego.  The person returned

completely cooked,

walked up and down in front of the Friend’s house,

gently knocked.

                              “Who is it?”

“You.”

“Please come in my self,

there’s no place in this house for two.

The doubled end of the thread is not what goes through

the eye of the needle.

It’s a single-pointed, fined-down, thread end,

not a big ego-beast with baggage.’

But how can a camel be thinned to a thread?

With the shears of practices, with doing things.—Two Friends, Coleman Barks,  The Essential RUMI,  Introduction to the New Expanded Edition, New York,  HarperCollins, 2004, p. 87

1552 Become One

Simple English

When I stood knocking

At the door

“Who is that?”

Came the question

“It is ‘I’” answered I

“No place for two,

You better leave”

Was the reply

Seeking you everywhere

Wandering all around

When “I” could not find you

Anywhere at all

Returning back

And knocking again

The same question

Came once more

“It is ‘YOU’ who has come”

When this answer was given

The door immediately

Opened itself

As I entered

And saw

When “I” found ‘me’

Within ‘YOU’

As I surrendered completely

And mingled in you

We both disappeared

And became ONE

Gurukulam, 6-1-24, 11.00 p.m.

1552 Become One

Classical English

As I stood, knocking

At the door

“Who art thou?”

Came the query

“It is ‘I’” quoth I

“No place for two,

Depart hence”

Was the reply

Searching thee everywhere

Wandering all about

When “I” could not find thee

Anywhere at all

Returning once more

And knocking anew

The same query

Did again ensue

“It is ‘THEE’ who cometh”

When this was spoken

The door didst open

Of its own accord

Entering therein

Mine eyes beheld

When “I” found ‘myself’

Within ‘THEE’

As I yielded wholly

And mingled with thee

We both did vanish

And became ONE

Gurukulam, 6-1-24, 11.00 p.m.

 BT Song 1553

After writing the previous song, I continued to sit calmly and reflect on what Rumi said. Then I thought I should even give up the very concept of thinking. This is possible when I give up the thought of ‘I’ or ‘aham,’ even to give up the thought process of thinking. The result is this song.

BT Song 1553 I lost completely

Simple English

I need a heart

That doesn’t think

I should reach a stage

Where I should even lose my thought

I should even give up

The very thought of

How to remain

‘Not’ to think

When I go beyond

The very process of thinking

Without finding any

Words to communicate it

When I drown

In complete silence

As the very thinking has disappeared

There I had your darshan

Seeing the darshan

That even my eyes cannot see

Attaining a bliss

That even my heart does not experience

I sang your praise

With the language

That even we

Humans do not know

But when this ‘I’ came

In between

And separated me

From you

Knowing the secret of

Losing the very thought

When I give up

My ‘aham’

Both ‘I’ and ‘thoughts’

Once disappeared

I lost myself completely

In you

Gurukulam, 6-1-24, 11.00 p.m.

Classical English

BT Song 1553 I Lost Completely

A heart I seek

That doth not think

A state to reach

Where thoughts are lost

Even the thought

Of how to be

Without a thought

Must be abandoned

When I transcend

The realm of thought

No words are found

To speak of it

When in silence

I am submerged

As thoughts vanish

There, thy vision I beheld

A vision seen

By eyes unseen

A bliss attained

Beyond heart’s reach

In praise I sang

With language unknown

To mortal men

And human tongue

Yet when this ‘I’

Did intervene

It parted me

From thee, my Lord

The secret known

Of losing thought

When ‘aham’ was cast aside

I then beheld

Both ‘I’ and thoughts

Did disappear

In thee I lost

Myself complete

Gurukulam, 6-1-24, 11.00 p.m.

 BT Song 1554

Both ‘Bhakti’ and ‘Sannyasa’ have one common ground: dissolving oneself in the Eternal Being, not seeking any kind of self-promotion. When I see certain messages, particularly by a few Swamijis promoting themselves, it makes me laugh and irritates me. This is not out of jealousy, but out of real concern for such unwanted self-promotion. Though life is not divided into watertight compartments, and there is no separation between the ‘spiritual’ and the ‘mundane,’ each vocation has its own dharma. It is better to adhere to it as much as possible.

1554 Why this promotion

Simple English

I don’t know

Why this kind of self-promotion

Why one should do it

I cannot understand

When one cannot

Live for oneself

Why should one

Wear such a mask, you tell me

What is the use of

The world praising you

When there is no

Truth within you

Though a few might

Appreciate you

They will still

Laugh within their hearts

In order to see

How long we would act

They might even

Applaud in public

Sitting alone

When you do Tapasya

Thinking about

God within you

What is the need

To make it

An object of

Wearing saffron attire

Going to the forest

Remaining in solitude

And forgetting oneself

When God gives

Such a noble call

Why should you seek

Promotion even in that

Let it go

As long as it can

Let us see

How long this drama will continue

When one day

Your mask is removed

Your own heart

Will laugh at you

Time has not

Yet fully passed

The time to repent

Has not ended

Avoiding such

Self-promotion

Better seek

The way to be emancipated

Gurukulam, 7-1-24, 8.15 am

1554 Wherefore this Promotion

Classical English

I know not

Why this self-promotion

Why must one do it

I comprehend not

When one cannot

Live for oneself

Why don a mask

Pray, tell me

What worth is

The world’s acclaim

When within

Truth is absent

Though some may

Offer praise

Yet in their hearts

They laugh

To see how long

Our act shall endure

They may applaud

In public

When alone

You practice Tapasya

Contemplating

God within

What need is there

To make it

A matter of

Clad in saffron robes

To the forest you go

Dwelling in solitude

Forgetting thyself

When God extends

Such a noble call

Wherefore seek

Promotion even therein

Let it run

Its natural course

We shall see

How long this play lasts

When one day

Thy mask is removed

Thy own heart

Shall laugh at thee

Time hath not

Yet fully passed

Nor the season

For repentance ended

Eschew such

Self-promotion

Seek instead

The path to liberation

Gurukulam, 7-1-24, 8.15 am

 BT Song 1555

This is a continuation of the previous song (1554). Now the share market controls everything, and without advertisement, no one can survive in the stiff competition of the corporate world. What once remained as ‘seva’ is now completely commercialized. Education and health services are two prime examples. But now religion is also dragged into it, with several corporate gurus promoting themselves through advertisement in the name of sadhana.

Change is inevitable in life, but certain values or dharma cannot be changed according to the whims of everyone. Dharma, being the foundation, should remain strong. Now, many corporate gurus construct their empires without any foundation, relying solely on their promotional talent. Even several sannyasis are dragged into this. Poor God is also trapped, and now we must try to free Him from such corporate gurus and restore His original status. Since this seems almost impossible, it is better for us to run away and try to save our own mukti.

 Simple English Translation:

BT Song 1555 Corporate Gurus

Giving ‘upadesha’

Which never enters the mind

Sharing some philosophy

Which does not make sense

So many corporate gurus

Are doing business

Now very efficiently

In this world

Once everyone came

To sell something in the market

Now everything is

Commercialized

As business tycoons

Started to invest

They now compete

Even in the share market

All that remained

As Seva before

Has now become business

And competing with each other

If one has to survive

In this stiff competitive market

There is no other alternative

Other than promotion

Once Seva’s condition

Became like this

What can we say

About spirituality now?

Even sannyasis are

Seeking advertisement

In order to withstand

In their market

As religions have also

Joined in this

There is no means

For God to escape

Should we say this

As the leela of the time

Or should we lament that

This is Kaliyuga

What is the use

Of blaming anyone

How and whom shall we

Accuse and how much

Try to run

To escape

And keeping only

Mukti in mind

If possible

By saving God also

We could bestow

Mukti again to Him

Otherwise, why not

Keep away from this

Thinking why should we

Court unnecessary trouble

Gurukulam, 7-1-24, 6.10 p.m.

BT Song 1555 Corporate Gurus

Classical English

Giving ‘upadesha’

Which entereth not the mind

Sharing philosophies

Which maketh no sense

So many corporate gurus

Engage in commerce

Now very efficiently

Within this world

Once all came

To peddle their wares

Now all is

Commercialized

As business magnates

Begin to invest

They now compete

Even in the stock market

All that was

Once Seva

Has now become commerce

And competeth with each other

To survive

In this fierce market

No alternative remains

But promotion

When Seva’s state

Has thus declined

What hope remains

For spirituality?

Even sannyasis

Seek advertisement

To endure

In their market

As religions

Join this race

Even God hath

No escape

Shall we call this

The play of time

Or lament

The age of Kali

What use in

Blaming any

How and whom shall we

Accuse, and how much

Strive to flee

To escape

Keeping only

Liberation in mind

If possible

Saving even God

We might bestow

Liberation upon Him

Else, why not

Withdraw from this

Thinking, why court

Unnecessary trouble

Gurukulam, 7-1-24, 6.10 p.m.

$$$ BT Song 1551 பேச்சை கேட்காதே

நாலுபேர் பேச்சை

நாமேன் கேட்டணும்

நமக்குள் நாலுபேர்

இருந்திடும் போது         1

ஊர்பேச்சை கேட்டால்

ஒன்றுக்கும் உதவாது

உறவின் பேச்சினால்

ஒன்றும் நடக்காது        2

இறைவனைக் கேட்டுப்

பயனுமே இல்லை

ஏனென்றால் அவனும்

அளந்து கொடுப்பதால்          3

என்பேச்சைக் கேட்டும்

பயனுமே இல்லை

என்பேச்சு எனக்கே

புரியாது இருப்பதால்      4

யாரின் பேச்சைத்தான்

இறுதியில் கேட்பது

என்கிற கேள்வி

மனதிலே வந்தால்        5

எவரின் பேச்சையும்

கேளாமல் மவுனமாய்

இருப்பது ஒன்றே

அனவர்க்கும் நல்லது      6

அதையே நானும்

அடிக்கடி செய்வதால்

அனுபவம் கற்று

தந்ததால் சொல்கிறேன்         7

ஆகவே நீயும்

மவுனமாய் இருந்தால்

இந்த உண்மையை

உணர்ந்து கொள்ளலாம்         8

அதன்பின் இந்த

அவசியம் நிச்சயம்

இல்லாது போகலாம்      9

தன்போல் திறக்க         5

உள்ளே வந்து
