BT Song 1156 to 1160

BT Song 1156

We cannot do anything in life knowing all the consequences of our choices. At the same time, without having some kind of result in our mind, it is impossible for us to do anything in life. But we should know the mind of God before we do anything. Without some kind of clue about what we need to do from Him, we cannot even begin. Demanding the choice of the result is our right, which God cannot deny to a bhakta. So how to give that clue is left to Him. Unless He gives that clue, we cannot do anything in life. My plea to Him is to make a final decision about giving that clue to me so that I can begin certain things in life, rather than blaming what went wrong in the end. It is better for God to understand that we have the right to choose, but the consequences of our choices are not in our hands, as He is equally responsible for them in the life of a bhakta.

BT Song 1156: Better You Decide (Classical English Style)

1.

Until I know

Thy firm decision,

I cannot act

With full precision.

2.

The reason why

I am distressed,

Is this alone,

‘Tis manifest.

3.

If thou dost let me

Act at will,

And speak at last

When fate fulfills,

4.

I am not sole

For outcome’s plight,

This thou must see

And deem aright.

5.

‘Tis not an easy

Task we face,

Without full knowledge

Of the case.

6.

‘Tis unjust

To leave devotee,

To face the end

So dubiously.

7.

Deny not our right

To choose our fate,

For thou dost bid us

Knock and wait.

8.

No wrong in giving

Hints to guide,

That we may act

With thee beside.

9.

This sole request

I make to thee,

To give a hint

For clarity.

10.

Whate’er the end,

I’ll take as thine,

For ’tis thy will

In me divine.

11.

How thou dost give

This hint to me,

Is not my task,

But thine decree.

12.

Thou must in some way

Guide my path,

And lead me from

Thy holy hearth.

13.

Thus, for me to

Decide the course,

Thy decision

Must be the source.

14.

Better thou takest

This choice with haste,

That I may act

With prudent grace.

BT Song 1156: Better You Decide

1.

Unless I know

Your decision clear,

I can’t proceed

In life, my dear.

2.

The reason why

I feel so low,

Is only this,

Better you know.

3.

If you let me

Do as I choose,

And speak your mind

When I might lose,

4.

I am not sole

For the end result,

Better you see

This clear consult.

5.

It’s not easy

To act or start,

Without knowing

The whole result’s part.

6.

It isn’t fair

To leave a devotee,

To face the end

Uncertainly.

7.

You cannot deny

Our right to claim,

A choice of end

In your own name.

8.

Nothing wrong in

Giving a clue,

So we can act

As you’d want us to.

9.

I ask only

For that hint, true,

And I will do

As I’m guided through.

10.

In the end, I’ll

Accept, no fuss,

The outcome, as

Your will in us.

11.

How to give

That clue to me,

Is not my task,

That’s yours to see.

12.

You should somehow

Guide me right,

And lead me on

With your pure light.

13.

So for me to

Decide what’s done,

Your decision

Is the one.

14.

Better you take

That choice today,

And let me act

In your own way.

BT Song 1157

Behind anything and everything I ask, there is some kind of selfishness. Even in the so-called seva that I do (including for my mother?), I feel that there is always some kind of selfishness. Promoting oneself is inevitable in the secular world if one wants to achieve success or even survive. But when it comes to seva for the Lord, I think there should be no place for that. Anyhow, I don’t know, somehow I feel that there is some kind of selfishness in everything we do in the name of God—some fame, name, a small feather on our cap. So even in this request to the Lord to remove my selfishness, I feel again there is some selfishness. Well, keeping the welfare of everyone in mind, including Him, the Lord should remove it. Or He alone has to carry this burden of mine.

BT Song 1157: Selfishness (Classical English Style)

1.

Whate’er I ask,

Selfishness doth show,

But what thou dost,

Justice doth bestow.

2.

Thus, thou shouldst act

Ere I request,

And rid this selfishness

From my breast.

3.

Before I ponder

What to implore,

And how to frame

My plea before,

4.

Though with reasons

I come to thee,

With hidden thoughts

And self to see,

5.

Thou dost know well

My inner mind,

And what advantage

I would find.

6.

Thou dost act wisely,

Fair and bright,

Though I resist

With all my might.

7.

My stubborn heart,

So hard to yield,

Argues still,

Though fate is sealed.

8.

Knowing defeat

Shall be my end,

Still I contest,

My will to bend.

9.

What can I do?

This nature stays,

I strive to change

In many ways.

10.

Yet until this

Selfishness fades,

Success eludes

In shadowed glades.

11.

Thus I beseech

Thee to remove,

This selfishness

For others’ behoove.

12.

Not for myself

Alone I plea,

But for others,

And for thee.

13.

Unless thou dost act

Of thine accord,

This burden stays,

Without reward.

14.

For our welfare,

And for the good,

Consider thine own,

As thou should.

Mathigiri, 20-12-2019, 10.10 p.m.

BT Song 1157: Selfishness

1.

Whatever I ask,

Has selfishness within,

But what you do

Holds justice, akin.

2.

So you should act

Before my plea,

Remove this selfishness

In me.

3.

Before I ponder

What to say,

And how to ask

In a proper way,

4.

Though I come with

Thousands of reasons,

With hidden agendas

Through the seasons,

5.

Knowing well

My inner thought,

And what benefits me,

That I’ve sought.

6.

You act wisely,

Beautifully, true,

Even when I argue,

Refusing you.

7.

My stubborn nature,

Never soft,

Argues still,

Even though lost.

8.

Knowing I’ll lose

In the end,

Still I contest,

My stubborn friend.

9.

What can I do?

This nature stays,

I try to change

In many ways.

10.

But until this

Selfishness fades,

There is no

Success in my shades.

11.

So I ask you

To help me clear,

Knowing this too

Is selfish, dear.

12.

Not just for me,

But for others too,

I plead for this,

For them and you.

13.

If you act

On your own accord,

It will go,

With your reward.

14.

For our welfare,

And common good,

Think of your own

And do what’s stood.

BT Song 1158

See: Truth and Renunciation

BT Song 1158: Renounced Renunciation (Classical English Style)

1.

I know not why

I did renounce,

Nor understood

What I’d denounce.

2.

What I sought

Remains unclear,

What I gained

Is still not near.

3.

Something beyond

My mortal sight,

Drove me to

This austere plight.

4.

‘Twas not God,

I dare not claim,

Nor karma’s wheel,

I do disclaim.

5.

I searched for something

Vague and broad,

But surely not

The face of God.

6.

I shan’t deceive

The world with lies,

Claiming it was

Truth so wise.

7.

Events did push me

To this way,

Circumstance

Did have its say.

8.

Like dust borne

On a river’s flow,

Time did carry

Me to and fro.

9.

I sought to grasp

And understand,

To share with others

What was planned.

10.

But defeat met me

In the end,

And thus the truth

Did comprehend.

11.

Once renounced,

Why seek to explain?

Renunciation

Needs no gain.

12.

The secret none

Can comprehend,

Why need we share,

Or condescend?

13.

I renounced

In some strange fashion,

Renounced all,

Even my passion.

Mathigiri, 25-12-2019, 11.30 p.m.

BT Song 1158: Renounced Renunciation

1.

I don’t know

Why I let go,

Never understood

What left me so.

2.

What was I seeking?

Still unclear,

What did I gain?

Still not near.

3.

Something beyond

Pushed me away,

Into renunciation,

Led me astray.

4.

I won’t claim

It was divine,

If it’s karma,

That’s not my line.

5.

I searched for something,

But not for God,

I won’t deceive

With such a facade.

6.

The truth

Didn’t push me there,

Events and circumstances

Didn’t spare.

7.

Like dust

In water’s flow,

Time carried me,

To and fro.

8.

I tried to grasp,

Tried to convey,

But in the end,

Lost my way.

9.

Defeated in this,

I saw it clear,

Why explain

What I hold dear?

10.

Renunciation

Needs no goal,

No need to share

What none can know.

11.

I let go somehow,

Let go something,

And even renounced

The renouncing.

Mathigiri, 21-12-2019, 11.15 p.m.

BT Song 1159

The greatest tragedy in a person’s life is when their own heart becomes rebellious. But for the bhakta, the only antidote is seeking the help of God to instruct the mind in such a way that the heart will obey when asked to grow in bhakti and move through life by living one day at a time.

BT Song 1159 Rebellious Heart

I only ask my heart to change,

To leave the past behind,

I ask it to forget the pain,

And peace within to find.

I only ask it to live each day,

With bhakti in its core,

To grow in faith, to always pray,

And love the Lord more.

It never listens to my plea,

Nor acts on its own will,

I complain to you with misery,

Yet mercy’s lacking still.

I asked for not too much, you see,

Just simple, heartfelt needs,

But my heart refuses, silently,

And in suffering, it bleeds.

I didn’t ask for excess strain,

Nor blamed it in haste,

But my heart, it bears the pain,

In suffering, I’m placed.

I never asked it to think wrong,

Or forget the divine,

I only wished for it to be strong,

In God’s love to shine.

It must change to truly grow,

And leave the burdens behind,

To live each day and let it flow,

With peace within the mind.

It should grow in bhakti’s light,

To shine with every prayer,

And walk with faith, pure and bright,

In God’s loving care.

Though I speak in simple terms,

My heart resists my call,

It’s not ready, it just confirms,

It won’t listen at all.

So I turn to you, my guide,

To lead my heart’s way,

With your wisdom, love, and pride,

Teach it how to pray.

You alone can guide its path,

And show it how to live,

In your love, it finds a bath,

In your grace, please forgive.

Instruct my heart to walk your way,

With faith and love divine,

And in your light, each day,

Let my heart align.

Mathigiri, 25-12-2019, 11.30 p.m.

BT Song 1159

Rebellious Heart

I ask my heart to change its ways,

To leave the past behind,

Forget the pain, embrace the days,

And peace within to find.

I ask it to live day by day,

With bhakti deep inside,

To grow in faith, to always pray,

In God’s love to abide.

It never listens to my plea,

It doesn’t follow through,

I complain to you with misery,

Yet no mercy comes from you.

I don’t ask for too much strain,

Nor blame it in a rush,

But my heart bears all the pain,

In suffering, it’s crushed.

Did I ask it to think wrong?

Or forget the divine?

I just want it to be strong,

In God’s love to shine.

It must change to grow each day,

And leave burdens behind,

To live in peace, in bhakti’s way,

With calmness in its mind.

Though I speak in simple terms,

My heart resists my call,

It’s not ready, it confirms,

It won’t listen at all.

So I turn to you, my guide,

To lead my heart’s way,

With your wisdom, love, and pride,

Teach it how to pray.

You alone can guide its path,

And show it how to live,

In your love, it finds its bath,

In your grace, please forgive.

Instruct my heart to walk your way,

With faith and love so true,

And in your light, day by day,

Let my heart renew.

BT Song 1160

Pluralism is a reality in life. The relative nature of ethics cannot be ruled out. In such a scenario, to the questions: who is wrong and which one is wrong, no one can find a normative answer for all. But when we help others recognize their mistakes and try to correct them, we should keep our own mistakes in mind and approach others’ mistakes with humility. At the same time, if we refuse to correct others’ mistakes thinking that we are not perfect, then we cannot help others overcome their mistakes. Accepting the various limitations in approaching any mistake alone will help us maintain balance in correcting others’ mistakes. As I tried to help a young man address his question about ‘addiction,’ I wrote this song in response to him. Later, I gave him a long response, and after sending it, I retired to bed very late at night. See my article ‘Addiction’ for more on this subject.

BT Song 1160 Unanswerable Mistake

1.

To the question posed:

Who bears the blame?

No answer flows,

The end’s the same.

2.

To the query asked:

What is amiss?

No final task,

No truth in this.

3.

In pondering flaws of others,

Our own are brought to light,

Mistakes, our own druthers,

Are all too clear in sight.

4.

What wrongs are there?

No key to find,

Each error bears,

A subject mind.

5.

If we delay to mend,

And faults in view, we see,

Our own we must contend,

Or never truly free.

6.

To seek one answer clear,

For every flaw we meet,

No mistake appears,

No law can be complete.

7.

Correct we must, though flawed,

With our mistakes in view,

Context we applaud,

With kindness we renew.

8.

Measure faults by time,

And place with motive pure,

No disgrace or crime,

In judgment firm yet sure.

9.

Balance all with care,

For others’ good we strive,

Correct with humble air,

And grace to keep alive.

10.

Accept our faults with grace,

And act with gentle hand,

Help others in their place,

To better understand.

11.

Each mistake complex,

In goodness we must tread,

Approach with kind respects,

For better paths ahead.

12.

Correct with careful heart,

No error to dismiss,

Aid others to depart,

From their own dark abyss.

Mathigiri, 26-12-2019, 11.10 p.m.

BT Song 1160: Unanswerable Mistake

1.

To the question:

Who’s at fault?

No answer comes,

End result is halt.

2.

To the question:

What is wrong?

No final answer,

Not for long.

3.

Thinking of others’ flaws,

Our own appear,

Mistakes we made,

All too clear.

4.

What is wrong?

No universal key,

Every mistake,

Subjectivity.

5.

If we hesitate

To correct in view,

Thinking of our faults,

We’ll never pursue.

6.

Seeking one answer

For every flaw,

Makes none a mistake,

No clear law.

7.

We should correct

With our mistakes in mind,

Consider context,

Be gentle and kind.

8.

Measure mistakes

In time and place,

With motive clear,

No disgrace.

9.

Balance it all,

For others’ good,

Correct with humility,

As we should.

10.

Accept our faults,

Act with grace,

Help others too,

In their own space.

11.

With complications

In each mistake,

Approach them all

For goodness’ sake.

12.

Correct with care,

Without a miss,

Help others

From their abyss.

தாழ்மையுடனே

செயல்பட வேண்டும்

11. அதன்பின் பிறரின்

தவறைத் திருத்தி

அவரும் மீள

உதவ வேண்டும்

12. தவறில் இத்தனை

அளவுகள் இருக்க

தவறின்றித் தவறை

அணுகிட வேண்டும்
