BT Song 1596
Another frustration with life. Though I am not bored with my life as a recluse, mere routine without any purpose never motivates me to live further. As the famous saying goes, “we were sent without being consulted and we will be taken back without getting our consent.” This is true. A bhakta can express this frustration both as a prayer and a contention with the Lord.
BT Song 1596 – Enough
Simple English
1.
After getting the desired liberation,\
Why keep me in this unwanted world?
2.
Giving with one hand,\
Taking away with the other,\
What is this spectacle you are watching?
3.
If you say that we are\
Walking with a double mind,\
Stumbling along the way,
4.
You did this by your own action,\
You became the forerunner for us.
5.
It’s enough to create and win,\
But after rescuing, why refuse to take back?
6.
How long will you keep and torment us?\
Why make us stay in this world?
7.
After the given work is done,\
We should leave even if there is a feast.
8.
If we decide to stay where we came,\
Life will become a burden.
9.
When the body and mind say it’s enough,\
Why refuse to listen and insist on keeping us?
10.
Refusing to act,\
Insisting stubbornly,\
What is the reason?
11.
When life runs unwantedly,\
Even your heart forgets to care.
12.
Coming in distress,\
Telling this,\
There is nothing else in me.
Gurukulam, 12-4-24, 11.30 am.
BT Song 1596 – Sufficiency
Classical English
1.
Having attained the cherished liberation,\
Why then retain me in this undesirable realm?
2.
With one hand bestowing,\
With the other retracting,\
What is this spectacle you observe?
3.
Should you declare that we,\
With divided minds,\
Tread falteringly along the path,
4.
By your deeds,\
It was achieved,\
You became our precursor.
5.
It suffices to create and conquer,\
But after redemption, why decline to reclaim?
6.
To what end shall you prolong our torment?\
Why persist in our earthly existence?
7.
Once the appointed task is fulfilled,\
We must depart, even from a feast.
8.
Should we opt to linger where we arrived,\
Life shall become an encumbrance.
9.
When both body and mind proclaim sufficiency,\
Why refuse to heed and insist on retention?
10.
In defiance of action,\
Stubbornly persisting,\
What reason do you hold?
11.
As life continues undesired,\
Even your heart forgets to remember.
12.
In distress I come,\
To express this,\
For naught else remains within me.
Gurukulam, 12-4-24, 11.30 am.
BT Song 1597
The omnipresence of God, particularly in our lives, is very true. We are created to give company to Him and are saved to have eternal fellowship with Him. Some religious or sectarian theologies agree with this, but most do not. God, being independent and sovereign, never needs our presence or fellowship. However, bhakti has its own theology, which insists that both God and the bhakta need each other and cannot survive without the other. It never expects others to accept this theology, as it is their very existence and experience—including that of God.
BT Song 1597 – He United
Simple English
1.
He stays to protect,\
He watches over me,\
The poor one.
2.
For those living alone,\
He stays as a companion,\
He unites them.
3.
We are not born to live alone,\
Nor do we live alone.
4.
When seeking a solitary life,\
It is not possible to live without help.
5.
God, who does not wish to be alone,\
Created humans.
6.
When humans sought Him,\
He willingly protected them.
7.
Therefore, seeking us,\
He came and united with us.
8.
Our needs are fulfilled in Him,\
His needs are fulfilled in us.
9.
One cannot live without the other,\
Henceforth, it is not possible.
10.
Granting the state of liberation,\
He united with us in that too.
11.
In this world and the next,\
We and He are united.
12.
He is everywhere,\
Watching over,\
Always protecting me.
Gurukulam, 14-4-2024, Night, 11.30
BT Song 1597 – He United
Classical English
1.
He abides to protect,\
Watching over me,\
The destitute.
2.
For those who dwell alone,\
He remains a companion,\
Uniting them.
3.
We are not born to dwell in solitude,\
Nor do we live alone.
4.
When aspiring for a solitary life,\
One cannot exist without aid.
5.
The Divine, unwilling to be solitary,\
Created humankind.
6.
When humans sought Him,\
He protected them with willingness.
7.
Thus, seeking us,\
He came and united with us.
8.
Our needs are fulfilled in Him,\
His needs are fulfilled in us.
9.
One cannot exist without the other,\
Henceforth, it is impossible.
10.
Bestowing the state of liberation,\
He united with us therein.
11.
In this realm and the beyond,\
We and He are united.
12.
He is omnipresent,\
Watching over,\
Always protecting me.
Gurukulam, 14-4-2024, Night, 11.30
BT Song 1598
Viraha bhava gives complete freedom to express bhakti in all its forms. In normal romance, though both partners claim each other as their own and refuse to share with others, in viraha bhakti, while it recognizes the need for other bhaktas, it still won’t tolerate any indifference from the Lord. Then, claiming equal and sometimes more rights, it will demand exclusive rights over the Lord when His presence is delayed when she seeks it.
BT Song 1598 – Do Not Pretend
Simple English
1.
Why do you pretend with me?\
Why this useless effort?\
I have seen many such acts before,\
If you act again, I will not spare you.
2.
I am a master at acting,\
You know this well,\
Have I ever failed before?\
You should understand this too.
3.
Even though you know I will wait,\
You delay your arrival,\
Giving excuses and pretending,\
You astonish me with your act.
4.
This has always been your habit,\
Why waste more words with you?\
Don’t give unnecessary reasons,\
And stir up my anger in vain.
5.
Thousands may call you,\
I am not responsible for that,\
Who do I have if not you?\
Don’t you know this?
6.
Let the past go, I endured it,\
I waited for you throughout,\
But patience has its limits,\
Understand this, and there will be good.
7.
Do you still not know\
The power within devotion?\
If caught in the net of devotion,\
You will then understand its strength.
8.
Many like me have lived,\
I shared you with them,\
But if you do this,\
I will claim you entirely.
9.
So, stop pretending,\
Avoid delays,\
Run to my call,\
And live with me together.
Gurukulam, 15-4-24, 2.25 pm.
BT Song 1598 – Do Not Feign
Classical English
1.
Why dost thou feign with me?\
Why this futile endeavor?\
I have witnessed many such acts before,\
If thou dost act again, I shall not spare thee.
2.
In acting, I am a master,\
Thou knowest this well,\
Have I ever failed before?\
Thou shouldst understand this too.
3.
Even though thou knowest I shall wait,\
Thou delayest thine arrival,\
Giving excuses and pretending,\
Thou dost astonish me with thine act.
4.
This hath always been thy habit,\
Why waste more words with thee?\
Do not give unnecessary reasons,\
And stir up mine anger in vain.
5.
Thousands may call thee,\
I am not responsible for that,\
Who do I have if not thee?\
Dost thou not know this?
6.
Let the past go, I endured it,\
I waited for thee throughout,\
But patience hath its limits,\
Understand this, and there will be good.
7.
Dost thou still not know\
The power within devotion?\
If caught in the net of devotion,\
Thou wilt then understand its strength.
8.
Many like me have lived,\
I shared thee with them,\
But if thou dost this,\
I shall claim thee entirely.
9.
So, cease feigning,\
Avoid delays,\
Run to my call,\
And live with me together.
Gurukulam, 15-4-24, 2.25 pm.
BT Song 1599
Like the transcendental immanence of God, His presence and absence are also part of our experience. As our emotions play a significant role in our relationship with everything, they have an equal or greater role in our bhakti. When we are high in spirit and sadhana, we feel His presence; when we are depressed, we feel His absence. But we know, like a fish, we always live in the presence of God. Even this hide-and-seek game is played by God Himself.
BT Song 1599
Simple English
1.
Like a nail thrust
In a green tree
You made me understand\
Love and affection.\
Do I have them\
In you?\
My mind asks me\
This question…—like a nail….
2.
Do you have more\
Love for me than for others?\
You didn’t ask me this\
Because, for me,\
Without you,\
There is no one else,\
So you too… —like a nail….
3.
I don’t know\
If I knew or not,\
I don’t know\
If I understood or not,\
But still I talk to you\
Often,\
So you too come\
To me… —like a nail….
4.
I thought I forgot you,\
But even in that,\
I think only of you.\
In forgetting,\
I remember,\
You are the one\
Who does this to my mind… —like a nail….
5.
Sometimes I felt you\
Were with me,\
Many times I felt you\
Disappeared,\
You mix with my feelings,\
Then you disappear,\
That is you… —like a nail….
Gurukulam, 15-4-2024, Night, 11.00
Classical English Translation
BT Song 1599

You made me comprehend\
Love and affection.\
Do I possess these\

Do you have more\
Love for me than for others?\
You did not ask me this\
Because, for me,\
Without you,\
There is no one else,\
Thus you too… —like a nail….
3.
I do not know\
If I knew or not,\
I do not know\
If I understood or not,\

I think only of you.\
In forgetting,\
I remember,\
It is you\

BT Song 1600
God communicates His intentions in our lives only through our actions. Other means are indirect communication for everyone, but His communication through our actions is specific only to us. We need a discerning spirit to understand His subtle messages. Once we learn to know His intentions, we will see His message in every action that happens in our lives.
BT Song 1600 – What is the Reason
Simple English
1.
There must be some reason\
With you,\
I don’t know what it is,\
I am suffering too.
2.
Until you\
Tell it yourself,\
There is no way for me\
To know it.
3.
You won’t come\
And say it directly,\
You won’t write it down\
And show it to me.
4.
You show it through actions,\
And by that way\
You ask me\
To understand it.
5.
In which action\
Can I see it,\
When there are obstacles\
And puzzles around?
6.
Good and evil,\
Both are yours,\
I feel like\
Coming to this conclusion.
7.
Even in good,\
I saw the bad,\
In evil, I saw\
The good happening.
8.
To say which is\
Your action,\
Life is a mix\
Of both.
9.
Therefore, if I try\
To understand through actions,\
Until the end,\
The answer won’t be found.
10.
So, keeping one thing\
In mind,\
Setting the situation\
For that,
11.
In the end, this is\
The reason,\
Until you firmly\
Tell me.
12.
I will do what\
You ask me to,\
Whatever the reason\
May be.
13.
This one reason\
Is enough,\
Why need\
Another reason?
Gurukulam, 15-4-2024, Night, 11.50
BT Song 1600 – What is the Cause
Classical English
1.
There must be some cause\
With you,\
I know not what it is,\
I too am in distress.
2.
Until you\
Reveal it yourself,\
There is no way for me\
To discern it.
3.
You won’t come\
And state it directly,\
You won’t inscribe it\
And display it to me.
4.
You show it through actions,\
By that means\
You bid me\
To comprehend it.
5.
In which action\
Can I perceive it,\
When obstacles and enigmas\
Are present?
6.
Good and evil,\
Both are thine,\
I feel like\
Concluding thus.
7.
Even in good,\
I saw the bad,\
In evil, I saw\
The good ensuing.
8.
To declare which is\
Thy deed,\
Life is a blend\
Of both.
9.
Thus, if I strive\
To understand through actions,\
Until the end,\
The answer will elude.
10.
So, keeping one thing\
In mind,\
Arranging the circumstance\
For that,
11.
In the end, this is\
The cause,\
Until you firmly\
Declare it.
12.
I shall do what\
You bid me,\
Whatever the cause\
May be.
13.
This one cause\
Is sufficient,\
Why need\
Another cause?

BT Song 1598 – நடிக்காதே
1.

BT Song 1600 – காரணம் என்ன
1.
என்னவோ காரணம்\
இருக்கு உன்னிடம்\
எதுவெனத் தெரியாது\
தவிக்கிறேன் நானும்
2.
நீயாக அதை\
கூறிடும் வரையில்\
நானாகத் தெரிய\
வழியில்லை எனக்கும்
3.
நேராக வந்து\
கூற மாட்டாய்\
மறைகளில் எழுதி\
காட்டவும் மாட்டாய்
4.
செயலில் காட்டி\
அதன்மூலம் என்னை\
விளங்கிக் கொள்ள\
என்னிடம் சொல்வாய்
5.
எந்த செயலில்\
அதைக் காண்பது\
எதிரும் புதிருமாய்\
அவையுள்ள போது
6.
நன்மை தீமை\
இரண்டும் உனது\
என்ற முடிவுக்கு\
வரத் தோணுது
7.
நன்மையில் கூட\
தீயதைக் கண்டேன்\
தீமையில் நன்மை\
விளைவதைப் பார்த்தேன்
8.
இரண்டில் உன்செயல்\
எதுவெனச் சொல்ல\
இரண்டும் கலந்தே\
வாழ்க்கை உள்ளது
9.
ஆகவே செயலால்\
விளங்கிட முயன்றால்\
இறுதி வரையில்\
விடை கிடைக்காது
10.
ஆகவே ஒன்றை\
மனதில் வைத்து\
சூழ்நிலை தன்னை\
அதற்காய் அமைத்து
11.
இறுதியில் இதுதான்\
காரணம் என்று\
உறுதியாய் நீயே\
கூறும் வரையில்
12.
செய்யச் சொல்வதை\
செய்வேன் நானும்\
காரணம் எதுவாக\
இருந்த போதும்
13.
இந்த காரணம்\
ஒன்று போதும்\
வேறு காரணம்\
எதற்கு வேண்டும்
