BT Song 396

BT Song 396 A secret
I understood
The secret
which was hidden to the wise
and given to the unwise
I searched it
Through knowledge
Not understanding
What is ‘jnana ‘?
Reading so many scriptures
And diligently searching
And thinking deeply
I have done the research
I listened to
The debates of the wise
And like them
I too debated (about it)
In order to
Receive it through a preceptor
I searched for Him
Every day
How much I tried
With my own strength
The secret which is beyond my reach?
Finally I understood it.
Once I attained
That jnana
He came Himself
Seeking after me
Removing my ignorance
And removing my sin
He gave bhakti
Which bestows mukti?
Mathigiri, 21-3-16, 2.50 pm.
After reading today’s portion in Muktiveda, Luke 10:14-22, when I was meditating on verse 21, I began to think about it. This is one subject with which I never become tired—in thinking, talking and writing: bhakti or Jnana. Though I will not exalt one at the cost of the other or try to subordinate one to the other, yet recognizing the complementary nature of both of them—even the essential role of them, I would prefer to keep bhakti as the safe ground for me to stand and launch to other areas. Bhakti as a concept or doctrine won’t give mukti independently. As bhakti is not possible without a Personal God, as usual here bhakti stands for ‘faith’.
BT Song 397

BT Song 397 Who is your neighbor?
You go and do similarly
To those who are in need of some help—go and do….
They saw the wounded one
But went away as if not noticed it
Unlike them who went away
Without doing anything for him; having mercy—You go and do….
Like that stranger who came on that way
Having compassion on him
Applying oil to cure him
As he has done seva to him—You go and do….
In order to show how good is he
And asked the question for others to applaud him
To the one who has a mean mind?
The Lord turned to him and said—go and do….
“Who is your neighbour?
Whom you think is your neighbour
Those who are in need are your neighbours
If you help them they will become your own” —go and do….
Yet he became very sad
As he has desire over his wealth
Though he received the apt answer to his question
Went away as if he didn’t hear, without giving any response (to the Lord) —go and do….

As I read from Luke 10: 25-37, based on this story I wrote this song.
BT Song 398

BT Song 398 Paid the debt
What you were thinking when you hanged on the cross
Even amidst that suffering you carried my burden
You renounced all the goodness for my sake
And you gave yourself for me to be redeemed
Because of the love which you have from the beginning
You gave your life for that noble nature
You were wounded because of my transgression
And you suffered on your body for my sake
Even though you were panting for water
And your Father forsook you out of hate
Even in that situation, having compassion on me
You forgave my sin
You, the one who gave your life for me
By saying that ‘everything is finished’
You died for my sake
By paying my unpayable debt
In what way am I going to pay it back?
How I am going to return back that debt
As it is impossible for me to pay it back
I gave myself to serve you.
25-3-16, Mathigiri, 2.15 pm.
Though we need not agree with any calendar celebration of any festival, yet certain events remain crucial in every faith. And for me the Prayaschitta by the Lord is one among them. Of course my bhakti in the Lord never began from there and not going to end there, but it is the central teaching of Muktiveda, particularly in the Uttaraveda (NT), which is important for us to understand. So this afternoon when I began to read my regular portion in Muktiveda, my thoughts often went back to the historic event of His suffering. As I began to meditate on what all He said and done on the Cross, I wrote this song immediately.
BT Song 399

BT Song 399 knowledge which came very late
No more possible with this body
No more strength in the mind
When I live like a dead man walking
What can I do; you alone tell it to me
When I had strength in my body
Where was the time to think about you?
There was no time for you
Amidst the way my mind went wild
Always only thinking about me
And keeping only my need before me
What to say about the life which I lived
How to say about that wretchedness?
The pleasures which I sought are not few to tell
I searched for them a lot
Keeping only the need of my body before me
I lived in the ditch
But even that bad smell
Too remained pleasant one in those days
But once you uplifted me from it
I felt remorse thinking about it
Though now I reached the final stage in life
My mind is not yet under control
But you gave yourself even in this situation
To redeem me; what to say about it?
Along with my body and mind I gave me to you
And I keep you in my heart
Though this knowledge came very late
I came to you requesting to save me
Mathigiri, 25-3-16, 2.45, p.m.
After writing the previous poem (398), I continued my reading. But I felt some kind of tiredness both in my body and mind—due to lack of proper sleep in the nights—thanks to the Dog menace. Then I thought of spending time in prayer. But my spirit didn’t cooperate with that either. Then I said to the Lord as prayer, ‘neither I have strength in my body nor enthusiasm in my heart. As I have to live as if a dead man is walking, now what can I do? Then I began to write it as a poem which further reflected the reality of life. Better late than never is my plea to the Lord to receive me with my limitation.
BT Song 400

BT Song 400 Which one to tell?
Are they few to tell?
And get depressed thinking about my shortcomings?
Coming to you with much fear seeking refuge
And to get a word of comfort from you—Are they….
You bestowed so many blessing without miserliness
You comforted me when I was troubled
You overcame me because of your abundant love
And you gave yourself to redeem me—Are they….
There is no change in your promise
And there is no short coming in your meekness
There is no discrimination in showing love
And I don’t have the opportunity to deny it—Are they….
Though I get lost you came seeking after me to redeem
You came running hearing my cry
Not forsaking me thinking that I am a sinner
Taking pity on me you gave forgiveness—Are they….
Though I received so much, yet I hate you
How much you told I refuse to listen
I tried to live as per my wish
Somehow, I refused to see the truth—Are they…
Still taking much compassion on me
Having much patience and peace
When I returned back with repentance
You received me not forsaking me—Are they…
27-3-16, Mathigiri, 2.00 p.m.
In spite of my claim that I am a bhakta of the Lord, the way I continue to remain rebellious in several ways and areas, made me think more about the compassion of the Lord. This song reflects this struggle and the Lord’s compassion.
