91. After resurrection
I should receive that grace
In my inner feeling
You should bestow joyfully to me
Your strength of resurrection
I should attain that glory of
Dying in your death
I should know the secret of your accepting
Suffering for the pain of human beings
I should tell this truth to others
Which world didn’t know so far
For this I should become one with you
O God who has resurrected.
Even though I will live on this earth
After I die and rise in you
I should live everyday so that
The world will die within me
Not remaining content as if
I have already attained everything
I should run after you
As much as I matured (in you).
Mahari, Rewa (M.P.) 30-03-1997. Phil. 3:7-16.
Among all other writers in Muktiveda, I like Sevanada the most. To understand his greatness we should read books on him like ‘Paul the Leader’ by J. Oswald Sanders. Sevanand had both ‘hard head and soft heart’. He is both emotional and rational. He is both paramarthika (other worldly) and vyavaharika (practical); Orthodox and radical/controversial. He is a true acharya, who has the quality of an acharya: one who knows, practise in his personal life, able to teach others, know how to remove the doubts of his disciples, won’t sell his teaching, ability to communicate, don’t talk or share what others cannot understand, always ready to confront his opponents. But he lacks the quality of an acharya: orator. But not hiding this, he remains sincere in acknowledging his weakness. But for his seva the gospel would have remained as the Jewish captivity and early mandali (church) as a sect or new cult within Judaism.
So when I read his epistle, I find both comfort and challenge. This song I wrote when I meditated on Phil. 3:7-16. Taking the clue from his words in Phil. 3:10, I named Easter as ‘Mritunjai puja’ (Mritu+jai+puja =victory over death).

BT Song 92

92. Why Muktinath?
‘When millions of Gods are among us
Why did you go after Muktesan?’
Don’t ask this question to me
As you already know the answer!
For what purpose He came as human
He became a guru because of that in my life.
I never went after seeking Him
But I wandered around searching for God!
Not knowing clearly I wandered as I wished
But forgiving the period of my ignorance
He came in my life seeking after me.
Either to reject Him who sought after me
Or to follow Him after knowing my need?
As He left that decision of choosing with me
I went after Him after clearly understanding.
17-06-1997. Erode, Tamil Nadu
‘You name any teaching that you like or will meet your emotional, intellectual, rational etc. need, they are here in our Hindu tradition. Then why should you follow an alien God and alien religion?’ was the genuine question addressed by many in my life. Of course they never used these precise words, but in my dialogue they expressed this view. My one answer to them was that I never sought after Him. In fact I never liked Christianity and even Muktinath because of their negative view towards our deities and religion. But my search for a guru finally ended in Him. Then accepting Him or rejecting is left to me. However I gave Him a limited period chance to prove Himself that He is the kind of guru whom I was seeking. And till this day I don’t find any reason to reject Him. Once He became my guru then He also became my Bhagavan. On 18-07-2014 in his talk Sri M. V. Anantha Padmanabachariyar (on the greatness of acharyan (of Sri Vaishnava Sampradaya ‘RAMANUJA VAIBHAVAM) said that ’because He is God, He didn’t become acharya, but because He became acharya He become God’. So acharya (guru) is even greater than God. That is why Vishnu by forsaking shastras (weapons) and taking up Sastras (scriptures) took various avatars (like Hamsa, Hayagriva, Vamana, Krishna etc.)
And keeping this question ‘Why Muktinath’ as my purva paksha (former side; opponents question) I wrote this song.

BT Song 93

93. I won’t hesitate to wrestle
Others don’t know
The wrestle between us
What else can I do
Oh my Lord hereafter?
How long you will bear
With me
As I live with unstable mind
And as a cheater?
Though I call you
Challenging you to wrestle
Why don’t have
Mercy on me?
Did you hesitate?
That I will become a lame
Therefore with fear
You stand apart?
Instead of becoming
Permanently disabled
Oh Lord having mercy
You make me lame
With this request
I came to wrestle
We need not wrestle
Before others
With good intentions
I say this
But if it is your will
I won’t hesitate for that too.
17-06-1997. Erode, Tamil Nadu.
God alone knows a bhaktas shortcoming in every area of her life. There is a limit for her to share and seek others’ counsel and prayers for that. I have that experience in my life. So in this song I beg the Lord to come and wrestle with me to make me lame instead of making myself permanently a disabled person. Bhakti gives that much freedom for me to demand from my Lord. It is better for me to become lame and able to walk with the Lord than become permanently disabled by allowing others to talk about all kinds of rumours about me.

BT Song 94

94. unable
I cannot look unto you
When I think about my sins
I cannot even stand at the distance
As I continue to live in sin.
But where else can I go
I don’t have words to utter my heart pain
You need not call me ‘righteous’ one
I know that I am not qualified for that
Not knowing your RIGHTENOUSNESS
Proclaiming my own righteousness for others to applaud me
Like that Pharisee standing several times
I went astray through my own righteousness
Like that tax collector with heavy heart
I didn’t run to your temple seeking you
Unless you come and seek after me
There is no chance for me to be saved.
Delhi 10-09-1997
This story of Pharisee and the tax collector is a favourite parable for me. When I was reading that parable on 10-09-1997 at Delhi in my personal devotion, I realized that I still live like that Pharisee than the tax collector. The fact that struck me deep is that both of them went back not knowing that one is rejected and the other is accepted.

BT Song 95
This song I wrote just for fun and hummer. I deliberately changed the events as a cautious one, but still lost due to my own lethargy. Once you read you will understand this hummer.

95. What can I do?
If I know the time of your arrival
I would have remained woke up to welcome you!
But I took a short snap thinking that
Let you come as you like.
But unlike that foolish girls
As I don’t want to lament latter
Though I brought oil with lamp
I forget to pour more oil to the lamp.
When you came as you have promised
I felt very bad when I opened my eyes
As I slept the oil came down much
As I forget to trim the wig, the light also went off
When I searched for the lamp in the darkness
The oil also fall down as my hand hit it
When I managed to get back the match box
It fall on the oil by mistake
Now what is the use of having?
Match box, oil and lamp
As I lost all of them because of my mistake
None came to my help when you arrived
Not one time or two
As I have done this mistake repeatedly
I become used to the darkness
My heart also become depressed
What can I do in this situation?
Even I don’t have emergency light with me
As usual you alone come by searching for me
And show the path through your light.
15-09-1997. Lucknow. U. P.
I like this kind of imagination to stretch the story a bit and apply to my true nature. However cautious I remain in life, yet due to my own foolishness and sometime over cautiousness I faced a worst scenario. When I read that parable of Foolish virgins, I compared my life with them, but how I failed in spite of my precautions in various areas of life. Though I was careful enough to take extra oil and even match box, yet I failed because of my laziness. Mere outward preparedness in spiritual life is not enough but an inner alertness is more important.
