BT Songs 1071 to 1075

BT Song 1071

God never tempts anyone to put them on trial. Most of the trials in our life are our own creations. When we cross the Lakshman Rekha of legitimate rights, we have to face the consequences in the form of various trials. God respects every legitimate right in our life, but when we take that right as a license to indulge, trials are inevitable. As the Gita well says (7:11), God remains that legitimate kama (desire) in every life.

BT Song 1071 Not Both

Temptation is,

Not the pain,

Tempting is,

Not God’s domain.  1

We never

Seek it,

Voluntarily by

Loving it.  2

When we wish

To trespass

The bounds

Which God hath set?  3

Like nectar,

Which in excess,

Finally becomes

Poison for us.  4

All the senses

Which God bestows,

As natural needs,

Are nectar indeed.  5

When we enjoy them

Knowing our need,

Even that nectar

Shall become food for us.  6

Keeping us in this world,

In noble status,

He bids us live

By ruling it.  7

Realizing this,

When we enjoy with limits,

There is no pain in life,

He said this also.  8

When we cross

The boundary,

Only pain

Will remain.  9

When we live

With this realization,

Both pain and temptation

Shall be gone.  10

Temptation is

Not the pain

Tempting is

Not God’s work  1

We never

Seek it

Voluntarily by

Loving it  2

When we want

To trespass

The limit

Which God has set?  3

Like the nectar

Which when becomes excess

Finally it becomes

Poison for us  4

All the senses

Which God put

As the natural requirement

Is nectar indeed  5

When we enjoy it

BT Song 1072 Don’t Take Holidays

When you give, I will receive,

Till you give, I will wait.

Each day I will recall,

All that you’ve bestowed so far.  1

There has been no lack,

In what you’ve given thus far.

When you choose not to bestow,

Lamenting serves no use.  2

But if you cease,

My daily portion,

I cannot endure,

The loss thereof.  3

It is beyond me,

To miss the opportunity,

To commune with you,

Every single day.  4

What shall I say, O my Lord,

When I contemplate the void,

That would arise from it?

I cannot bear it.  5

Have you taken leave,

Thinking perhaps,

You cannot abide,

In fellowship with me for long?  6

Or have you reckoned,

As I speak in vain,

You should withhold?

Draw near to me.  7

I pledge no more,

To behave thus,

Reducing my words,

I shall heed you more.  8

If you bid me,

To speak naught,

I consent,

Here and now.  9

Therefore, refrain,

From taking leave henceforth,

Do not cause me to lament,

So frequently like this.  10

Let the past be past,

Now I comprehend well,

Do not persist,

This does not befit you.  11

BT Song 1072 Don’t Take Holidays

When you give I will receive

Till you give I will wait

I will remember each day

What you have given so far  1

There was no shortcoming

In what you gave so far

When you refuse to give

There is no use in lamenting  2

But if you stop

My daily share

I cannot tolerate

The loss in it  3

It is impossible for me

To miss the right

To have fellowship with you

Each day  4

What to say Oh my Lord

When I think about the emptiness

Which comes out of it?

I cannot tolerate  5

Did you take holidays?

Thinking that

You cannot have fellowship with me

For too long with me  6

Or did you think that

As I am talking vain things

Are you refused?

Come near to me  7

I promise not to

Behave like this anymore

Minimizing my talk

I will listen to you more  8

If you ask me

Not even talk anything

I give my consent

Now itself  9

Therefore don’t

Take holidays anymore

Don’t make me lament

Like this often  10

Ok let the past remain past

Now I understand well

Don’t remain adamant

This is not good on your part  11

BT Song 1073

As the bhakta longs for the Lord, the Lord also longs not only to have fellowship with the bhakta but also to listen to all her babblings in any form—prayer, poem, etc. As I was thinking about it, I asked the Lord if He is not satisfied with the praises of creation and angels and also becomes tired of theology and philosophy about Him. In order to get trapped in bhakti, did He seek and redeem me? Then I wrote this song to express this thought as my prayer for the day.

BT Song 1073 You Have Also Longing

Why did you come seeking me,

To receive that which redeems me?

You, who created and sustains all,

What is it that you lack, seeking after me?  1

Though nature sings your praises,

And angels join in harmony,

Though people of the world extol you,

Does your heart yearn for more?  2

Though praised in myriad tongues,

Though poets and scholars laud your name,

Did you come to redeem me,

To hear the babblings of this fool?  3

When my words sound like a child’s babble,

Overflowing with joy and gladness,

Does your heart long to receive

The love that brims within?  4

Though your grace unfolds many philosophies,

Though theology offers explanations,

To reveal the greatness of devotion to the world,

Have you chosen to redeem me?  5

To dwell in my devotion,

To remain bound within,

To revel in its bliss,

Did you come to dwell in this servant’s heart?  6

Mathigiri, 27-2-2019, 11:45 p.m.

BT Song 1073 You Have Also Longing

Why you came seeking me

To receive which you redeem me

The one who created and protects everything

Missing which thing that you came seeking after me  1

However the nature praises you

Though the angels also join it

However the people of the world praise you

Did your heart long to hear more?  2

Though you were praised in many languages

Though poets and learned people sing your praises

Did you come and redeem me to

Listen to the babblings of this fool  3

When my talk remains as the babbling of the child

Overcome by joy as I rejoice

Did your heart long to receive the

Love which overflows in it  4

Though your grace proclaims many philosophies

Though theology gave many explanations

In order to show the greatness of bhakti to the world

Have you decided to redeem me  5

Along with in order to dwell in my bhakti

To remain bound within it

In order to enjoy the bliss in it

Did you come to dwell in the heart of this slave?  6

BT Song 1074

Celebrating art is part of my life. Since my boyhood, I have been doing some kind of artwork. But music has become an integral part of my life. Rarely do I spend a day without listening to some music, particularly classical (Carnatic) music. When I write any poem, I can do it only by composing some musical form for it. Particularly when I write any bhakti song, my heart will naturally sing it while I write it. Dr. Hoefer rightly says, “Music, not words, is the language of mysticism.” (5-3-2019 personal communication).

BT Song 1074 Sweet Music

When I sing,

I feel joy,

My heart seeks

Your blessed feet.  1

When I sing of you,

Sweet music arises,

My mind becomes

Absorbed in praising you.  2

As zeal

Overflows within me,

As my heart yearns,

Longing only for you.  3

Desiring to live

In this manner alone,

I come with longing,

Tears in my eyes.  4

Somehow you bestowed

This life upon me,

You reside in my heart,

Making it your abode.  5

Oh my Lord,

You granted this boon,

To worship you

Thus every day.  6

As my heart

Melts in contemplation,

And you too rejoice

In my love.  7

Having received this grace

To live solely for you,

I took this birth

To extol you.  8

Therefore, singing

Your praises,

Crafting new

Songs each day.  9

Musing on your grace

Within my heart,

Thus I shall live,

Singing sweet music.  10

Mathigiri, 5-3-2019, 10:50 p.m.

 BT Song 1074 Sweet Music

When I sing

I feel bliss

My heart will

Seek your feet  1

When I sing about you

Sweet music will be born

My thought will

Immerse in praising you  2

As enthusiasm

Overflows within me

As my heart longs

Seeking only you  3

As I want to live

Only like this

I come with longing

With tears in my eyes  4

Somehow you gave

This birth to me

You dwell in my heart

Making it your temple  5

Oh my Lord

You gave this boon

To worship you

Every day like this  6

As my heart

Melts thinking of this

As you too rejoice

In my love  7

As you gave this grace

To live only for you

I took this birth

To praise you  8

Therefore singing

Your praise

Writing new

Songs each day  9

Thinking of your grace

In my heart

I will live like this

By singing sweet music  10

Though BT Song 1075

Due to much work and severe back pain, I have not been able to do most of my regular work for the past week. So, I missed my meditation time. Then I felt that the Lord had also deserted me and gone away. As I could not go for my regular night walk, I came and sat down on the chair in my room with much back pain. The two days of travel without much rest also took a toll on me. Then I told the Lord the first line of this song as a complaint. Then I wrote this song in the Viraha bhakti genre.

BT Song 1075  Mingle Without Separation

I know not the cause of this,

Nor understand why it came to pass,

Yet I fail to fathom the reason,

For your departure from me.  1

We shared fellowship willingly,

Together we dwelt thus far,

Though many trials beset us,

We lived without knowing separation.  2

Despite our many engagements,

Wherever we wandered hence,

In due time we reunited,

And lived in harmony.  3

Even when wearied,

Through countless trials faced,

United we stood,

Conquering the world.  4

Did envy cast its gaze upon us?

Did words of kin wound us?

Longing and waiting alone,

Anticipating your return.  5

You departed without a word,

Leaving me to sorrow in thought,

As always, I implore,

Return to me, let us mingle unparted.  6

Mathigiri, 12-3-2019, 10:10 p.m.

BT Song 1075 Mingle Without Separation

I don’t know the reason for this

I cannot understand why this happened

Still, I cannot comprehend the reason

As you went away from me  1

We had fellowship with each other with mutual consent

We lived together so far

many issues came between us

We lived without knowing separation  2

Though we had so many other works

Wherever we wandered because of that

In time we reunited again

And lived with much peace  3

However we become tired

How many trials came?

Joining together

We overcame the world  4

Did evil eyes fall upon us?

Did our relatives’ words hurt us?

As I am longing, remaining alone

And as I am waiting for your arrival  5

You went away without saying anything to me

You made me lament thinking of you

As usual, you please come back

Mingle with me without knowing separation  6

BT Song 1071 இரண்டுமில்லை

சோதனை என்பது

வேதனை இல்லை

சோதிக்கும் வேலை

இறைவனுக்கில்லை  1

நாடி நாமும்

தேடி சென்று

விரும்பி அதனை

பெறுவதும் இல்லை  2

இறைவன் தந்த

நன்மை அதனின்

எல்லையை மீற

விரும்பும் போது  3

அளவுக்கு மிஞ்சிய

அமிர்தம் போல

அதுவே நஞ்சாய்

நமக்கு மாறும்  4

இயற்கை நியதியாய்

இறைவன் வைத்த

எல்லா உணர்வும்

அமிர்தமே ஆகும்  5

தேவையை அறிந்து

அளவுடன் துய்க்க

அமிர்தமும் நமக்கு

உணவாய் மாறும்  6

பூரண உலகில்

பொலிவுடன் வைத்து

அதனை ஆண்டு

வாழச் சொன்னான்  7

அதனை உணர்ந்து

அளவுடன் துய்க்க

சோதனை கிடமே

இல்லை என்றான்  8

எல்லை மீறிச்

சென்றிடும் போது

வேதனை ஒன்றே

எஞ்சி நிற்கும்  9

இதனை உணர்ந்து

வாழும் போது

சோதனை வேதனை

இரண்டுமே நீங்கும்  10

BT Song 1072 விடுமுறை எடுக்காதே

தரும்போது பெறுவேனே

தரும்வரை பொறுப்பேனே

இதுவரை தந்ததை

அனுதினம் நினைப்பேனே  1

கொடுத்ததில் இதுவரை

குறையேதும் இருக்கலை

கொடுக்க மறுக்கையில்

புலம்பி பயனில்லை  2

ஆயினும் அன்றாடம்

அளப்பதை நிறுத்தினால்

அதனாலே உண்டாகும்

இழப்புதான் பொறுக்கலை  3

அனுதினம் உன்னோடு

உறவாடும் உரிமையை

ஒருநாள் இழப்பது

எனக்கு இயலாது  4

அதனாலே உண்டாகும்

வெறுமையை நினைக்கையில்

ஐயனே என்னசொல்ல

எனக்கது தாங்காது  5

வெகுநேரம் என்னோடு

உறவாட முடியாது

என்று எண்ணித்தான்

விடுமுறை எடுத்தாயோ  6

வேண்டாத பலபேச்சு

வீணாகப் பேசுறேன்

என்பதால் என்னிடம்

வந்திட மறுத்தாயோ  7

இனிமேலே அதுபோல

நடக்காமல் இருக்கிறேன்

என்பேச்சை குறைத்து

உன்பேச்சை கேட்கிறேன்  8

ஒன்றுமே பேசாமல்

இருக்க நீசொன்னால்

அதற்கு சம்மதம்

இப்போதே தருகிறேன்  9

எனவே விடுமுறை

இனிமேலே எடுக்காதே

இதுபோல் புலம்பிட

இனியும்நீ வைக்காதே  10

போனது போகட்டும்

புத்தியும் வந்தது

பிடிவாதம் பிடிக்காதே

உனக்கிது தகாது  11

மத்திக்கிரி, 23-2-2019, 11.50

BT Song 1073
