BT Songs 1181 to 1185

BT Song 1181

The problem with the Lord is that He puts the moral responsibility on us to make the decision about following Him. If He gives mere philosophies, then we can ignore them by saying that they are beyond our reach. Or if He prescribes some (religious) ritual, we can easily do that. But He expects us to imitate Him as He already lived that kind of life in His body and expects the same from us. However, as a bhakta, I know one easy means to overcome it—that is to remind Him how to help me carry His burden. When He asks us to bear His burden, then I can request Him to take the heavy side on His shoulder, slightly tilting the light side to mine, and also to carry me along with it. As He is ready to do that, I have no issue carrying His burden.

BT Song 1181: Very Easy

It isn’t easy,

This I have known,

Following thee

Is not mine own.

But I’m ensnared,

No other way in sight,

Here I stand,

With words to recite.

Philosophies high,

They aid me not,

Set them aside,

As they are forgot.

Hadst thou bestowed

Simple rites to keep,

I might have done them,

Ere I sleep.

But thou lived thy life,

Bade me follow true,

Though I strive,

I feel hollow too.

Countless reasons

Seem to fall,

I now discern,

I’m bound in this call.

Thou saidst,

“My yoke is light,”

Yet it appears

Heavy in sight.

If thou didst watch

From afar each day,

What could I do,

What should I say?

Keeping the weighty

Burden on thee,

Tilting the light

One unto me.

If thou didst bear

It alongside me,

Light it would be,

This I can see.

With means so simple,

Why should I fear?

To carry thy load,

When thou art near.

Give me the burden,

I’ll bear it all,

Thy faithful boy,

Ready to haul.

Mathigiri, 17-3-2020, 10.30 p.m.

BT Song 1181: Very Easy

It isn’t easy,

This I understood,

Following you

Is not something I could.

But I’m trapped

With no other way,

So here I am,

With something to say.

High philosophy

Wouldn’t help me at all,

I could set it aside,

Say it’s too tall.

If you gave me

Simple rituals to do,

I might have done them

Naturally too.

But you lived your life

And asked me to follow,

Though I try,

I feel so hollow.

Thousands of reasons,

All seem to fail,

I realize now,

I’m caught in this tale.

You said,

“My yoke is light,”

But it seems

Heavy in sight.

If you just watched

From far away,

What could I do,

What would I say?

Keeping the heavy

Side on you,

And tilting the light

Side to me too.

If you carried it

Along with me,

It would be light,

That I can see.

With such simple means,

Why should I fear?

To carry your burden,

When you are near.

Give me the weight,

I’ll carry it all,

I’m your smart boy,

Ready to haul.

BT Song 1182

I went for my evening walk on the open terrance and that time as I was seeking some clear guidance from God I thought that, the will of God is the final veto that He has. But He cannot exercise it all the time. Sometimes He has to give some concession considering the present context, which needs a different approach. Of course, He is not going to reveal His entire plan for us in one sitting. However, as I was fighting with the Lord about one issue, I became very upset and, after having a big fight with Him, I said I am not demanding any new concession but only want some guidance about it. After calming down, I wrote this song, finally agreeing with Him that I don’t want to further argue on this issue.

BT Song 1182: Don’t Want to Argue

I know for sure

That thou dost hold

An answer clear

To my query bold.

But when shall I

This answer gain?

Not knowing now

Doth cause me pain.

Though I’m confused,

‘Tis the answer

I wish to use,

In my heart’s chamber.

Whatever it be,

Thy reply true

To my plea,

I must pursue.

Though I desire

Our wills to align,

If it’s not to transpire,

I must resign.

Reflecting on

All that’s come to pass,

‘Tis best for me

To stay silent, alas.

But knowing well

What I do need,

And the present spell,

I ponder indeed.

If thou couldst descend

From thy high estate,

One step, my friend,

‘Twould alleviate.

This is not

Too much to ask,

As I know, without doubt,

Thou hast the task.

No new request

Do I raise,

Nor wish for unrest

In our ways.

Mathigiri, 19-3-2020, 10:45 p.m.

BT Song 1182: Don’t Want to Argue

I know for sure

That you have

An answer

For my question.

But when will I

Get to know it?

Not knowing now

Makes me frustrated.

Though I’m confused,

It should be

The kind of answer

I want to see.

Whatever it is,

Your reply

To my question,

I must accept.

Though I think

It would be good

If my wish and

Your will matched.

Thinking of all

That has happened,

It’s better for me

To stay quiet.

But knowing

What I need

And considering

The present state,

If you could come

One step down

From your stance,

It would be good for me.

That is not

Impossible for you,

As I know

This well.

I am not

Asking for any new favor,

And I don’t want

To argue further about it.

BT Song 1183: Content

Not knowing clearly,

I am bewildered,

I came to thee

Seeking understanding.

By making it clear,

Thou shouldst dispel my doubt,

Then shall I

Live as thou dost tout.

Though many questions

Arise within,

What is

True contentment?

The truth remains,

None hath yet given

A clear reply

Unto our quest.

When my heart doth ask,

What is true peace?

I find myself

Without an answer.

Living each day,

The life thou dost impart,

Seeing thy

Grace therein.

Knowing thou dost grant

Strength and steadfastness,

Through every

Trial and distress.

Placing myself

Wholly in thy care,

Knowing thou wilt lead

Tomorrow as today.

Ending each day,

Reflecting deeply,

Is true contentment,

This I now perceive.

Then I asked myself,

When thou hast provided

Such clarity,

Why should I be perplexed?

Mathigiri, 31-3-2020, 11:00 p.m.

BT Song 1183: Content

Not knowing clearly,

I am confused,

I came to you

Just to understand.

By explaining clearly,

You should clear my confusion,

Then I can

Live accordingly.

Though many

Questions arise,

What is

A happy life?

The truth is,

No one has given

A clear answer

So far.

When my heart asks,

What is happiness?

I don’t have

An answer for that.

Living each day,

The life you give,

Seeing your

Grace in it.

Knowing that

You give strength,

Though any

Trials and troubles may come.

Giving myself

Completely into your hands,

Knowing you will lead

Tomorrow as today.

Ending each day,

Reflecting deeply,

Is true happiness,

This I have learned.

Then I asked myself,

When you have given

Such a clear answer,

Why should I be confused?

BT Song 1184: Advising Others

Thousands have passed

In philosophic discourse,

Many have triumphed

Through debates.

Yet none

Truly lived

According to

The doctrines they preached.

Millions have passed

Dispensing counsel,

To set aright

The world’s course.

More than these

Are those who,

Heeding their advice,

Extolled their wisdom.

But the truth remains,

When one lives for oneself,

They forget these teachings,

Cast them aside.

True greatness lies

In admitting our flaws,

Resolving to amend,

To live justly.

But refusing

To accept defeat,

Endeavoring repeatedly,

That is strength.

When finally

We conquer and live right,

‘Tis best to remain silent,

Such is the true wisdom.

Mathigiri, 1-4-2020, 11:15 p.m.

BT Song 1184: Advising Others

Thousands have gone

Speaking philosophy,

Many have triumphed

Through debates.

But none

Truly lived

According to

The teachings they imparted.

Millions have gone

Giving advice,

To set right

The world’s course.

Yet more numerous

Are those

Who heard their counsel

And praised them.

But the truth

Is that

When one lives for oneself,

They forget these teachings.

True greatness lies

In acknowledging our flaws

And resolving to amend,

To live rightly.

But refusing

To accept defeat,

Persisting again and again,

That is strength.

When at last

We triumph and live rightly,

It’s best to remain silent,

This is the truth.

BT Song 1185

Again, my mother fell down when she got up from her cot to go to the bathroom (on 4-4-2020) and hurt her hip. Fortunately, no bone was broken, but the next two days were an ordeal for both of us. I had to lift her every time from the cot when she wanted to go to the restroom, and again I had to lift her from the toilet seat. Particularly after I had done this during the daytime, on the 4th night from 11:30 to morning 5:30 with a gap of an hour, I had to take her to the bathroom. There was no proper rest in the daytime and there was completely no sleep in the night. On the 5th, my condition became worse as I had to do it again but with less frequency. Finally, I pleaded with my mother to use a diaper as there was swelling on my right wrist from lifting her several times. As I had to do other work with much pain, I showed my swelling to my mother, pleading with her to use the diaper, and finally, she agreed to use it on the 6th night. But it was no use; around 1:00 am (midnight) she called me to remove it. I rebuked her and kept quiet, but it was no use. Again around 3:30, she began to shout and cry. So, without any other option, I removed the diaper. In this process, there was again no sleep in the night as I couldn’t easily catch my sleep.

So today, I began to think with a ‘what if scenario’ of any such accidents in the future and how to manage them. I even thought of moving to the Old Age home at Kumbakonam, where my brother already has a room for my mother—though I never liked the Old Age homes. And when I took Muktiveda to read, fortunately today’s portion in the Uttaraveda was from John 14:1-7. When I read this portion, immediately I laughed and began to recall all my future plans—including the Old Age home. But as 14:1 came as the assurance from the Lord, with much relief in my spirit, I wrote this song as a prayer for this day.

BT Song 1185: You Will Lead

As thou hast

Already ordained

All things for me,

I come,

Trusting thee,

Without worry.

I can do all things,

And need not fear excessively.

But if thou dost foretell

Beforehand,

Since I may not

Fully comprehend,

Thou wilt guide me

To act,

And then

Help me understand.

Though circumstances

Do not align with my desires,

Even when thou chastenest me

For my stubbornness,

Thou accomplisheth

Accordingly,

With all in mind,

Keeping their interests in thy care.

Though all

Thou hast achieved thus far

Has deeply etched

Upon my heart,

Observing small occurrences

Repeat,

I am somewhat apprehensive.

The faith

I hold in thee

Shall lead me

To heed thy voice.

Thy grace

Upholds me,

Bringing comfort,

Dispelling my fear.

Mathigiri, 6-4-2020, 10:10 p.m.

BT Song 1185: You Will Lead

As you have

Already arranged

Everything for me,

I came,

Trusting you,

Without any worry.

I can do anything,

And I need not worry too much.

But if you tell

Me beforehand,

As I cannot

Understand it well,

You will guide

Me to act,

And then

Help me realize it.

Though things

Don’t go as I wish,

Even if you correct me

When I am stubborn,

You will achieve

Things as needed,

Keeping everyone’s interest

In your mind.

Though all that

You have done so far

Has deeply impressed

Me,

Seeing the small events

Recurring,

I feel a bit apprehensive.

The trust

I have in you

Will guide me

To heed your words.

Your grace

Sustains me,

It will bring solace,

Removing my fear.

BT Song 1181
