BT Song 1201
After writing the previous song, I began to meditate upon the Lord. I then realized that whatever happens in my life, the Lord always keeps my best interests at heart—even when things don’t go as per my choice. However, several times due to my foolishness or arrogance in bhakti, I thought I could bend and twist the will of God through the influence of my devotion. Even during those times, with much patience, the Lord taught me the true purpose of bhakti. It is given not to bend God’s will according to my desires, but to understand what His will truly is. As inspiration came, I wrote this meditation as another song—while the rain continues to cool the atmosphere after several hot days.
BT Song 1201: The Strength of Bhakti
Simple English Version
1
When I think about your gentle nature
That always seeks to do good to me,
No matter what happens in life,
My heart melts indeed.
2
How many troubles have I sought myself,
Though I tried to escape,
Even more came on their own,
Adding to my burden.
3
Thinking of how I’ll find deliverance,
Which I seek with longing,
Though I pondered many ways,
I failed in them all.
4
What foolishness it was,
Trying to make you oblige
Through my devotion,
Ignoring your will for me.
5
Forgetting my foolishness,
Taking pity and coming to me,
The way you taught the purpose of devotion
Truly shows your greatness.
6
Forgetting not to know
The end result of devotion,
Amidst all life’s events,
Shows humility in my devotion.
7
Therefore, whatever happens in life,
Keeping only the good things for me,
Remembering that you accomplish every act
Is the true strength of my devotion!
Mathigiri, 17-5-2020. 11.45 p.m.
BT Song 1201 The Strength of Bhakti
Classical English Version
1
When I reflect upon thy tender nature,
That seeks to do me naught but good,
In spite of all that may befall,
My heart doth melt, indeed.
2
How many are the woes I brought upon myself,
Though I did strive to flee,
Still more did come unbidden,
Adding to my plight.
3
Thinking how deliverance I might attain,
Which with great longing I do seek,
Though many ways I pondered,
In all was I defeated.
4
What folly it was,
To think to bind thee to my will
Through devotion,
Ignoring thy divine intent for me.
5
Forgetting all my folly,
Taking pity, thou comest to me,
Thy teaching of the purpose of devotion,
Truly doth reveal thy greatness.
6
Forgetting not the end
Of devotion’s noble path,
Amidst all life’s vicissitudes,
Doth show humility in my faith.
7
Therefore, whate’er may come to pass,
Holding only good for me,
Remembering thou accomplishest all,
Is the true strength of my devotion!

BT Song 1202
As I had slept excessively for the past three days and took good rest today, I couldn’t fall asleep when I went to bed around 11:30 PM. Since I had decided to give complete rest to myself, I didn’t read anything, including my regular reading of Muktiveda. Without sleep, I remained awake for a long time. As I began to meditate upon the Lord, I felt inspired to write another song, but I resisted the urge. When it started raining again, I went to my mother’s room to close the windows and then returned to my bed. I then started drafting another article in my mind. My mind tempted me to get up and write the article before I forgot it, but my body warned me not to listen and threatened to extend the lockdown for another week if I didn’t comply. “Nobody is dying to read your babblings,” my body warned. Not wanting to become sick again, I obeyed my body.
However, as I still couldn’t fall asleep, I became upset with the Lord and began to argue with Him. I sat up in bed and said, “Don’t take the risk. If you don’t give me proper sleep, I will use it as an opportunity to talk with you.” Before I could finish the sentence, the first word of a song came to me as inspiration. My mind urged me to get up, take the old cheque book leaves from my table, and write the song with a pencil. (I use only scrap paper, advertisements that come with the newspaper, and refillable pencils to avoid wasting resources. When I closed two bank accounts recently, I requested the bank manager to let me take the cheque books to write on the back of the cheques, and she agreed. Similarly, I use only refillable pencils, not ink pens, to write poems and note points.)
I was inside the mosquito net, and my body warned me again not to listen to my mind. I assured my body that I would only write the first line to avoid forgetting it and complete the poem tomorrow. I got up, took the cheque leaves and pencil, and went back inside the mosquito net. Turning on the light, I wrote the first line, but as the inspiration continued, I ended up writing the entire poem. Otherwise, my mind wouldn’t allow me to sleep. With a sarcastic smile, my mind told my body, “Don’t think you are the boss. I have the final authority. You may become physically tired, but I never get tired and never need rest.” Observing their fight, I warned the Lord to give me sleep; otherwise, I would pester Him by writing another song. I told Him it was His choice.
BT Song 1202: An Opportunity
Simple English Version
1
Thinking that
This is another opportunity,
Always seeking
Only your grace,
I will come without fail
To worship you.
There is no hope for you to escape,
This I say clearly.
2
The night came
Long before,
Everyone
Went to bed.
When I am troubled,
Unable to sleep,
To whom shall I seek
Company without sleep?
3
How do you know
The importance of sleep?
Better sleep for some time,
Then you will realize its importance.
But that is not possible
For you,
Being a God,
That is impossible for you.
4
One way,
That is also good for me.
When no one
Approaches you,
I will come running,
Seeking your fellowship.
Even if I lost sleep,
I will be benefited by it.
5
Therefore this slave
Won’t lament that
I couldn’t
Sleep much.
When I get
Similar opportunities,
Definitely I won’t
Miss them.
6
But you have to
Pay a heavy price
For that,
Oh my Lord.
As I have to write
A poem about it,
You have to listen to it
Without any means to escape.
7
If you want to
Escape from my poem,
There is an easy
Means for you.
If you sing a lullaby,
I will go to sleep.
If you delay further,
Definitely I will write only a poem.
8
Therefore the
Choice is left with you.
Otherwise, there will come
Another song.
Remembering this,
Better you start
To sing the lullaby.
Mathigiri, 17(18)-05-2020, 1.30 am.
BT Song 1202 An Opportunity
Classical English Version
1
Thinking thus:
This is another chance,
Always seeking
Thy grace alone,
I shall come without fail
To worship thee.
There is no hope for thy escape,
This I declare plainly.
2
The night descended
Long before,
All have gone
To their beds.
When I am troubled,
Unable to sleep,
To whom shall I turn
For company in sleeplessness?
3
How canst thou know
The worth of sleep?
Better thou dost rest awhile,
Then shalt thou know its worth.
But that is not possible
For thee,
Being divine,
Such is beyond thy realm.
4
Yet in one way,
‘Tis good for me.
When none other
Doth approach thee,
I shall come running,
Seeking thy fellowship.
Even if I lose my rest,
I shall gain by it.
5
Therefore, this humble servant
Shall not lament
That I could not
Sleep much.
When such chances arise,
Surely I shall not
Let them slip away.
6
But thou must
Pay a dear price
For this,
O my Lord.
For I shall compose
A verse about it,
And thou must listen
Without any means of escape.
7
If thou wouldst escape
My verse,
There is a simple
Means for thee.
If thou dost sing a lullaby,
I shall fall asleep.
But if thou dost delay,
Surely a poem will be born.
8
Therefore, the choice
Lies with thee.
Else, another song
Shall come to be.
Remember this well,
Better thou dost start
To sing the lullaby.
Mathigiri, 17(18)-05-2020, 1.30 am.
BT Song 1203
Yesterday evening, I decided to give my body, particularly my eyes, another 24 hours of complete rest. After reading my Muktiveda, though I sat for a few minutes, I went to bed very early, around 9:30 PM. To my surprise, I fell asleep around 10:00 PM and woke up around 3:00 AM. Fearing that I wouldn’t be able to sleep for the rest of the night, I lay wide awake in bed. Though my mind tempted me to get up and attend to pending work on the computer, I managed to resist. I realized that the only way to overcome my restless mind was to engage in conversation with the Lord. So, I turned my attention to the Lord and began to talk about many things—whether they made sense or not. I argued, fought, pleaded, requested, and tried to reconcile. Then, I lay down calmly. Silently, the first two lines of a song came to me as inspiration. Expecting such a scenario, I had placed an old cheque book and pencil on the chair next to my bed before going to sleep. I took them and wrote this song in the genre of Viraha-bhakti. To my surprise, I managed to fall asleep again and slept until 6:00 AM. What a miracle! Now, I know the secret to falling asleep: give complete rest for 24 hours once a week and engage with the Lord when sleep eludes me. Of course when students take lesson book they fall asleep and most of the people feel sleepy while praying. But for me it is another way to catch my missing sleep.
BT Song 1203: Bhakti without Knowing Separation
Simple English Version
1
As tears welled up in my eyes,
From love in separation,
I became a display for the world,
An unnecessary thing to you,
I felt lost and forlorn,
An object of mockery.
2
Losing sleep, I fell into trouble,
As my body grew weary,
I became exhausted,
Searching for you,
My legs ached with pain,
Adding to my distress.
3
I wait to speak of my love,
Recalling the days
When I fell into your arms,
As my body burned with longing,
I sighed deeply,
Yearning for your touch.
4
Thinking I was infatuated,
They told me
To send a message to you,
Some even offered
To be the messenger,
Misunderstanding my devotion.
5
They didn’t know
The bliss of bhakti,
They spoke from
Their own understanding,
With many words
They tormented me.
6
No other relationship
Understands like bhakti,
Which cannot endure
Even a second’s separation.
Others cannot grasp this,
Having never lived as devotees.
7
Come quickly,
Wipe away my tears,
Promise never to leave me,
Give me double the measure
Of what I have lost,
Restoring my heart.
8
Give a bond
The world cannot understand,
Hug me without fail,
For I always remember you,
All the time,
With unwavering devotion.
Mathigiri, 24(25)-05-2020, 3.30 am.
BT Song 1203 Bhakti without Knowing Separation
Classical English Version
1
As tears did fill mine eyes,
From love in separation,
I became a spectacle to the world,
An unnecessary being to thee,
I felt lost and forsaken,
An object of derision.
2
Losing sleep, I fell into distress,
As my body grew weary,
I became worn out,
Seeking thee,
My legs pained with effort,
Adding to my sorrow.
3
I wait to speak of my love,
Recalling days
When I fell into thy arms,
As my body burned with longing,
I sighed deeply,
Yearning for thy embrace.
4
Thinking I was infatuated,
They told me
To send word to thee,
Some even offered
To be the messenger,
Misunderstanding my devotion.
5
They knew not
The bliss of bhakti,
They spoke from
Their own minds,
With many words
They did torment me.
6
No other bond
Understands as bhakti does,
Which cannot endure
Even a moment’s separation.
Others cannot grasp this,
For they have not lived as devotees.
7
Come swiftly,
Wipe away my tears,
Promise never to leave me,
Give me double the measure
Of what I have lost,
Restoring my heart.
8
Give a bond
The world cannot fathom,
Hug me without fail,
For I always remember thee,
All the time,
With unwavering devotion.

BT Song 1204
As good summer rain came again tonight, I decided to enjoy the rain and coolness (unfortunately, I couldn’t go outside) by retiring to bed early, around 10:30 PM. As usual, I couldn’t fall asleep and was rolling in bed for a long time. After my regular talk, argument, discussion, and fight with the Lord, I became mentally exhausted and uttered the first line of this song in Tamil. There was no response from the Lord this time. So, I got up, took my pencil and old cheque book leaves, and wrote this song. Initially, I wrote only up to six stanzas and closed the poem. But to challenge His silence, I thought about how to make the Lord break His silence and wrote the next four stanzas (7 to 10). After a trip to the restroom, I returned and decided to close the song with some humor, wrote the final stanza, and went to bed with a smile on my lips for a long time.
BT Song 1204: I Completely Forgot
Simple English Version
1
I seek only one thing from you,
I came to contend with you,
It is not good for you to change it,
How far is it correct
For you to remain silent?
2
If your will is very important to you,
And if everything should go
According to it,
Why did you give me a heart unnecessarily?
And ask me to
Ask as per my wish?
3
I won’t ask unnecessary things,
I won’t do what you don’t like,
Did I ever live
Against your dharma?
Shall I give you
Any trouble?
4
Can you forget so quickly
That I am a child
Raised by you?
Do I need to tell you
That I never
Disobeyed your words?
5
After living all these years with me,
Do you know only this much about me?
Am I wrong to ask this?
Is it correct for you
To become upset for this?
6
Unless I receive an answer,
I won’t tell you
What my expectation is.
Unless you ask me voluntarily,
I have decided
Not to share it with you.
7
It is natural for you
To remain in silence,
But you know better
That I know
How to break it.
8
Is there any baby on this earth
That does not know
How to change the wrath of its mother?
By whining slightly,
The mother will hug it
And speak to it.
9
Don’t think I have crossed the age
For whining.
I have a stronger weapon,
Better you don’t forget that.
10
If I say I will write another song,
You will immediately laugh,
Saying, “It is enough.”
And no more will you listen
To my request.
11
As you forced me
To write such a long poem,
Now I completely forgot
What my expectation from you was.
Mathigiri, 28(29)-5-2020, 1.30 am
BT Song 1204: I Completely Forgot
Classical English Version
1
I seek of thee but one request,
I came to contend with thee,
‘Tis not right for thee to alter it,
How far is it just
For thee to remain silent?
2
If thy will is of utmost import,
And all should follow its course,
Why gavest thou me a heart
Needlessly,
And bid me ask
As per my wish?
3
I ask not for trivial things,
Nor do I act against thy will.
Have I ever lived
Against thy dharma?
Would I cause thee
Any trouble?
4
Canst thou forget so quickly
That I am a child
Reared by thee?
Must I remind thee
That I never
Disobeyed thy words?
5
After all these years with me,
Dost thou know so little of me?
Is it wrong to question thus?
Is it right for thee
To be upset for this?
6
Until I receive an answer,
I shall not reveal
My expectation.
Unless thou askest voluntarily,
I have resolved
Not to share it with thee.
7
‘Tis thy nature
To remain silent,
But thou knowest well
That I know
How to break it.
8
Is there any child on this earth
That knows not
How to turn away its mother’s wrath?
With a slight whine,
The mother will embrace it
And speak to it.
9
Think not I have outgrown
The age for whining.
I possess a mightier weapon,
Thou shouldst not forget that.
10
If I declare I shall pen another song,
Thou wilt immediately laugh,
Saying, “It is enough.”
And no more wilt thou listen
To my plea.
11
As thou didst compel me
To write such a lengthy verse,
I now completely forget
What my expectation from thee was.
Mathigiri, 28(29)-5-2020, 1.30 am
BT Song 1205
After retiring to bed following my regular reading, a kind of dryness engulfed my mind and spirit. Though I tried to meditate or pray, nothing worked. So, giving up, I lay down. Unable to sleep, I began to talk to the Lord about this ‘dark night of the soul.’ I told Him that unless He comes and seeks me again and again and redeems me often, this kind of darkness won’t go away in normal life. It is impossible for me (or anyone) to experience divine bliss all the time. Considering the challenges in normal life, remaining cheerful even for a few seconds is a great achievement—especially in old age and for those who live alone, it becomes a Himalayan task. As inspiration came, I wrote this song while lying on my bed (as I always keep my pencil and paper ready for this) and went to sleep with some peace of mind.
BT Song 1205: Permanent Slave
Simple English Version
1
When I never sought you,
You came seeking me.
You came searching
For the lost one.
You came when
I never longed for you.
You always kept
Only my welfare in your mind.
2
I lost
The early enthusiasm.
I gave up
That first love I had.
As the days passed,
I slowly forgot you.
I always lived
Only thinking about myself.
3
Thinking that
I am practicing bhakti,
Wearing the mask
Of a devoted devotee.
I deceived myself,
As a trickster,
Refusing to listen
To anyone’s advice.
4
Even the body
Remained like a corpse.
The heart, senseless,
Became like a stone.
As I lost my love for you,
My eyes also dried up.
With your protection gone,
Troubles surrounded me.
5
Even after reading your Vedas,
The intellect remains ignorant.
Even after living with you,
The heart remains hardened.
Even after receiving your Spirit,
The soul never realized it.
Yet you have decided
To redeem me once more.
6
Taking pity on me,
Seeing my
Ignorant state,
To protect me,
You took
Direct action.
7
To revive
The crippled heart,
Coming to me
In silence,
Pouring your love
Into my spirit,
You relit
The extinguished lamp.
8
In that love,
I saw you again.
Completely losing myself
In that immense love,
I came running
Again to seek your feet.
I surrendered myself
As your permanent slave.
Mathigiri, 30-05-2020, 11.40
BT Song 1205: Permanent Slave
Classical English Version
1
Though I sought thee not,
Thou came seeking me.
Thou sought
The lost one.
Thou came when
I longed not for thee.
Ever thou held
Only my welfare in thy mind.
2
I lost
The early fervor.
I relinquished
That first love I held.
As days passed,
I slowly forgot thee.
I lived always
Thinking of myself alone.
3
Thinking that
I practiced bhakti,
Wearing the guise
Of a devout devotee.
I deceived myself,
As a trickster,
Ignoring
All counsel.
4
The body, too,
Remained as if dead.
The heart, senseless,
Became stone-like.
As my love for thee waned,
My eyes grew dry.
With thy protection withdrawn,
Troubles surrounded me.
5
Even after reading thy Vedas,
The intellect remains ignorant.
Even after dwelling with thee,
The heart remains hardened.
Even after receiving thy Spirit,
The soul remained unenlightened.
Yet thou hast chosen
To redeem me once more.
6
Taking pity upon me,
Beholding
My ignorant state,
To safeguard me,
Thou took
Direct action.
7
To revive
The ailing heart,
Coming to me
In silence,
Pouring thy love
Into my spirit,
Thou reignited
The extinguished flame.
8
In that love,
I beheld thee anew.
Entirely losing myself
In that profound love,
I hastened
Once more to seek thy feet.
I offered myself
As thy permanent slave.

BT Song 1201:

BT Song 1205:
மீளாத அடிமை
தேடாத போதும்
தேடியே வந்தாய்
தொலைந்து போனதை
தேடியே மீட்டாய்
நாடாத போதும்
நாடியே வந்தாய்
என்நன்மையை மட்டுமே
மனதிலே கொண்டாய் 1
ஆரம்ப நாட்களின்
ஆர்வத்தை இழந்தேன்
அப்போது கொண்ட
அன்பையும் துறந்தேன்
நாள்செல்லச் செல்ல
நானுன்னை மறந்தேன்
நான்என்னை மட்டும்
எண்ணியே வாழ்ந்தேன் 2
பக்தி செய்வதாய்
எண்ணியும் கொண்டு
பக்தன்போல் நல்ல
வேடமும் பூண்டு
எத்தனாய் என்னை
ஏய்துமே கொண்டேன்
எவர்சொன்ன போதும்
கேட்டிட மறுத்தேன் 3
உயிர்போன உடலும்
சவம்போல இருந்தது
உணர்வற்ற இதயம்
கல்போல ஆனது
காதலை இழந்ததால்
கண்ணீரும் வறண்டது
உன்காவலும் நீங்கிட
கலக்கமும் சூழ்ந்தது 4
உன்வேதம் படித்தும்
உணராத மதியை
உன்னோடு வாழ்ந்தும்
இளகாத மனதை
உன்னாவி தந்தும்
புரியாத உயிரை
உய்த்திட மீண்டும்
எண்ணமும் கொண்டாய் 5
ஆயினும் என்மீது
இரக்கமும் கொண்டு
அறியாமல் இருக்கும்
நிலமையைக் கண்டு
நீமீட்ட ஒன்றை
காத்திட வென்று
நேரடியாகவே
செயலில் இரங்கினாய் 6
முடங்கிய மனதை
உயிர்ப்பிக்க வேண்டி
மீண்டும் என்னிடம்
மவுனமாய் வந்து
ஆவியில் உனது
அன்பினை ஊற்றி
அணைந்த விளக்கை
மீண்டும் ஏற்றினாய் 7
அந்த ஒளியிலே
உன்னையும் கண்டேன்
அளவற்ற அன்பிலே
என்னையும் இழந்தேன்
மீண்டும் அடிதேடி
ஓடியே வந்தேன்
மீளாத அடிமையாய்
என்னையும் தந்தேன் 8
