BT Song 1241
The problem with God is that, as He does not have a physical body, He never understands our plight. The issue with the Lord is that, having given up His body when He was young, He never experienced old age. Therefore, knowing the limitations of old age, He should assign certain responsibilities, particularly those involving physical work, with an understanding of the constraints of an aged body. As I must handle all the work without anyone to help regularly, I wrote this song in frustration, rebuking Him.
I had to stop the lady who came to help with sweeping and washing dishes. If I began to recount everything that forced me to do this, I would end up writing a separate book. One problem with helpers in the unorganized sector is that they take advantage of our limitations and dependency on them. However, we maintain patience and try to adjust due to our physical limitations. When they start taking advantage, we are forced to stop them and manage things ourselves rather than confront them frequently. Finding another helper is not that much easy in unorganized sector as all of them have their limitations. When my physical strain increased, the only one I could blame was the Lord, so I directed my frustration at Him. Additionally, the lack of sleep and severe back pain worsened my ordeal. Thankfully, as He never takes advantage of our limitations and dependency on Him, I need not be patient with Him and can confront Him as much as I like. But His only request is that I express my grievances through prayer rather than poems. However, I prefer to write poems, so He must either be patient with me or consider these poems as my prayers. Indeed, He faces more challenges with me than with others.
BT Song 1241: Don’t Ask Me for What I Don’t Have
Simple English Version:
Stanza 1:
Don’t ask me
For what I don’t have.
Don’t ask me to do
What’s not possible for me.
Give me work
That I can do,
And guide me,
Knowing my limits.
Stanza 2:
Even though you’re with me,
Not everything is possible for me.
Your strength supports me,
But I can’t carry
Every kind of burden.
Stanza 3:
Your yoke is light,
I know that,
Because you’re carrying it on the other side.
If you put the whole burden on me,
Just watch the mess
That might happen.
Stanza 4:
Did you forget
That my body is just dust?
Don’t you know
Its weaknesses?
Even though I have
A strong resolve in my heart,
My body will easily be defeated.
Don’t you know this?
Stanza 5:
You gave up your body
In prime youth.
Didn’t you realize
My condition?
Come back
One more time,
And tell me after
Living a hundred years.
Stanza 6:
Realizing that
It’s not possible for you,
Knowing my weaknesses,
Don’t ask me
For what I don’t have,
And don’t ask me to do
What’s not possible for me.

BT Song 1241: Ask Not of Me What I Possess Not
Classical English Version:
Stanza 1:
Ask not of me
What I possess not.
Entreat me not to do
That which lies beyond my scope.
Assign to me the tasks
That are within my power,
And guide me,
Mindful of my limitations.
Stanza 2:
Though thou art with me,
Not all is within my reach.
Thy strength sustains me,
Yet I am unable
To bear all burdens alike.
Stanza 3:
Thy yoke is light,
This I know well,
For thou dost share its weight.
Shouldst thou place the entire
Load upon me,
Observe then the calamity
That may ensue.
Stanza 4:
Hast thou forgotten
That my frame is but dust?
Art thou unaware
Of its frailty?
Though my heart
Be resolute,
My body shall easily falter.
Knowest thou not this truth?
Stanza 5:
Thou didst relinquish thy form
In youthful prime.
Didst thou not perceive
My plight?
Return once more,
And tell me
After a hundred years
Of earthly existence.
Stanza 6:
Understanding
Thine own limitations,
And acknowledging
My weaknesses,
Ask not of me
What I possess not,
Nor urge me to perform
That which I cannot accomplish.

BT Song 1242
Though I strongly believe that unless God gives me the proper words, I cannot communicate my thoughts, particularly through poems. However, even when He provides inspiration and words, my limitations prevent me from fully expressing all my thoughts. When I write a poem, I often feel that it is incomplete and that I need to express my thoughts more precisely. Similarly, I rewrite the same thoughts in different ways in my mind before finally managing to put them into words. As a result, some vagueness remains in my expression. I wish God would help me overcome the compulsion that drives me to write. Until He does, I must live with this dilemma or tension in communicating my thoughts—particularly through poems.
BT Song 1242: I Don’t Have
Simple English Version:
Stanza 1:
When I couldn’t
Communicate through words,
I stored
All my thoughts.
Stanza 2:
When you gave me
The right words,
I tried to
Communicate through them.
Stanza 3:
However, when the words
Were in front of me,
I couldn’t communicate
My thoughts.
Stanza 4:
I don’t have
The words to express
All the thoughts
That I have.
Stanza 5:
You never
Asked me to write to communicate
Since you already knew my thoughts
Before I tried to express them.
Stanza 6:
I don’t have
The means to realize
All the thoughts
That come to my mind.
Stanza 7:
Many thoughts
Come and try to
Confuse my
Mind in various ways.
Stanza 8:
I never gained
The maturity
To overcome my thoughts
And get clarity.
Stanza 9:
Unless you take pity
On me
And give me
The stage of
Stanza 10:
Letting go of my thoughts
And forgetting writing,
I won’t find
Any end to this.
Mathigiri, 10-10-2020, 11.00, p.m.
BT Song 1242: Possess I Not
Classical English Version:
Stanza 1:
When I could not
Communicate through speech,
I gathered
All my thoughts within.
Stanza 2:
When thou gavest me
Proper words,
I endeavored to
Convey through them.
Stanza 3:
Yet when the words
Were before me,
I could not
Express my thoughts.
Stanza 4:
Possess I not
The words to convey
All the thoughts
That dwell within me.
Stanza 5:
Never didst thou
Ask me to write to communicate,
For thou knewest my thoughts
Ere I sought to convey them.
Stanza 6:
I lack the means
To realize
All the thoughts
That enter my mind.
Stanza 7:
Countless thoughts
Assail and seek to
Confound my
Mind in myriad ways.
Stanza 8:
Maturity I attained not
To surpass my thoughts
And grasp
Clarity.
Stanza 9:
In thy compassion,
Unless thou grantest
Me the state
Of
Stanza 10:
Relinquishing my thoughts
And forsaking writing,
I shall find
No end to this.

BT Song 1243
Another tussle between God and me. He insists on His sovereign will, and I insist on my right as a bhakta. In the end, knowing my nature, unless He gives some concession, there won’t be any resolution to this tussle. The word ‘Vittukkodu’ in Tamil means giving up one’s right to maintain peace. Though I translated it as ‘adjust,’ I am not sure if this translation conveys the original meaning in Tamil. In general, the strong or correct person, knowing the nature of the weaker person, gives up their right with magnanimity to maintain peace and a cordial relationship—this is one major meaning of the Tamil word. This is a Tamil proverb depicting someone trying to escape from their responsibility.
BT Song 1243: Adjust
Simple English Version:
Stanza 1:
How long will this tussle
Between you and me
Continue
To persist?
Stanza 2:
Since neither of us
Is ready to adjust,
When will there be
A solution to this?
Stanza 3:
To the questions:
‘Who began it,
And why does it
Still continue?’
Stanza 4:
We both
Refuse to give
Any answers
So far.
Stanza 5:
But who is
More affected by it?
Answer just
This question.
Stanza 6:
Then the answers
To other questions
Will automatically
Come.
Stanza 7:
I don’t even know
How many questions
I have asked
So far.
Stanza 8:
But I can count
On my fingers
The answers
You gave.
Stanza 9:
Like a fish
Trying to escape while washing,
Why do you refuse
To give answers?
Stanza 10:
But you should
Change the thought
That there’s no obligation
For you to do that.
Stanza 11:
What need is there
For me to say this?
As the creator,
You have the responsibility.
Stanza 12:
Think of the reason
That I’ve come
To remind you
Often of this.
Stanza 13:
You know well
That adjusting
Is not
In my nature.
Stanza 14:
Adjusting
One more time,
Find a way
To end this tussle.
Mathigiri, 11-10-2020, 10.45 p.m.
BT Song 1243: Adjust
Classical English Version:
Stanza 1:
How long shall this strife
Betwixt thee and me
Endure
And persist?
Stanza 2:
Since neither of us
Doth bend to adjust,
When shall there be
A resolution to this?
Stanza 3:
To the queries:
‘Who began,
And why doth it
Still endure?’
Stanza 4:
We both
Deny to provide
Answers
Thus far.
Stanza 5:
But who is
Most afflicted by it?
Answer only
This query.
Stanza 6:
Then answers
To other queries
Shall automatically
Emerge.
Stanza 7:
I know not even
How many queries
I have posed
Thus far.
Stanza 8:
But I can count
Upon my fingers
The responses
Thou hast given.
Stanza 9:
Like a fish
Escaping in the wash,
Why dost thou refuse
To give answers?
Stanza 10:
Yet change thy thought
That thou art under
No obligation
To respond.
Stanza 11:
What need have I
To say this?
As the creator,
Thou hast responsibility.
Stanza 12:
Consider why
I come
To remind thee
Oft of this.
Stanza 13:
Thou knowest well
That adjusting
Is not
In my nature.
Stanza 14:
Adjusting
One last time,
Find the means
To end this strife.
Mathigiri, 11-10-2020, 10.45 p.m.
BT Song 1244
When I try to worship the Lord through praises, all my shortcomings suddenly come before me, preventing me from singing His praises. I don’t want to blame this on the devil’s tricks. Though I allow my mind to wander wherever it wants, sometimes I try to calm it down and return to meditating upon the Lord. But in this process, I waste much time and sometimes give up, going to bed instead. Then I lament and complain to the Lord about why He allows me to waste my time and often lament about how I have wasted my time. After wasting some time again tonight, I wrote this song to express my frustration to the Lord.
BT Song 1244: Which One You Need?
Simple English Version:
Stanza 1:
When I’m going
To live this life,
While living
In sin like this,
Stanza 2:
Oh my King,
Though I come seeking you,
No change has come
Within me so far.
Stanza 3:
There’s no way
To speak of all my evil nature,
There’s no need for that
Between you and me.
Stanza 4:
Now I have come,
Not to share that,
And you’re not
Unaware of it.
Stanza 5:
When I come seeking you,
Even for just a few seconds,
My mind wavers
Like roaring waves.
Stanza 6:
Somehow, after
Managing it,
When I come to you finally,
Time runs out.
Stanza 7:
Did you give devotion,
Only to struggle like this?
Did you give a heart,
Only to lament like this?
Stanza 8:
Why do you let me
Waste my time,
Not singing your praises
And worshipping you with my whole heart?
Stanza 9:
Who will like it
If one laments like this?
If I complain like this,
Even my own heart becomes tired.
Stanza 10:
There’s no way for me
To change this situation,
You have no
Mercy upon me.
Stanza 11:
How should I
Come to you?
Why do you allow me to
Lament like this?
Stanza 12:
Do you prefer songs of praise,
Or is mere lamentation enough?
You alone must finally
Decide about it.
Mathigiri, 12-10-2020, 11.00 p.m.
BT Song 1244: Which One Dost Thou Need?
Classical English Version:
Stanza 1:
When I am about
To live this life,
Whilst dwelling
In sin thus,
Stanza 2:
O my King,
Though I come seeking thee,
No change hath come
Within me thus far.
Stanza 3:
There is no means
To recount all my wicked nature,
Nor is there need for such
Betwixt thee and me.
Stanza 4:
Now I have come,
Not to reveal that,
And thou art not
Unaware of it.
Stanza 5:
When I come seeking thee,
Even for mere moments,
My mind doth waver
Like the roaring sea.
Stanza 6:
Somehow, after
Managing it,
When I finally approach thee,
Time slips away.
Stanza 7:
Didst thou bestow devotion,
Only to struggle thus?
Didst thou give a heart,
Only to lament thus?
Stanza 8:
Why allowest thou me
To waste my time,
Not singing thy praises
And worshipping thee with all my heart?
Stanza 9:
Who would favor
Such lamentation?
If I complain thus,
Even my own heart tires.
Stanza 10:
There is no means for me
To alter this plight,
And thou showest
No mercy upon me.
Stanza 11:
How should I
Approach thee?
Why dost thou permit me
To lament thus?
Stanza 12:
Dost thou desire songs of praise,
Or is mere lamentation sufficient?
Thou alone must finally
Determine this.

BT Song 1245
Silent meditation, though a blessing, has its own problems. Sometimes it is better to pray specifically for someone or some issues than to sit silently in the name of meditation. Though it has its own bliss, several times it also raises many issues and questions about life for which I don’t have convincing answers. As I sat silently tonight, the first thought that came to my mind was whether I am living properly, even though I came into the world to live. As I began to contemplate this, inspiration came, and I wrote this song as part of my meditation.
On one side, there is satisfaction, and on the other side remain lots of questions. All the answers theology gives are not convincing to the rational mind. At the same time, the grace of God gives inner peace, and I live with the assurance that I am saved by Him and in Him.
BT Song 1245: Unknown Secret
Simple English Version:
Stanza 1:
I came to this world
Only to live.
I received a heart
To become mean-minded.
I learned sin
To know how to fall.
I received your grace
To find my redemption.
Stanza 2:
Though I speak
In simple words,
The secret behind this
Is truly great.
Many people
Tried to understand it,
But only a few
Have found victory.
Stanza 3:
I learned the purpose
Of life in this world.
I discovered through my heart
About my mean-mindedness.
Because of my fall,
I understood the nature of sin.
After redemption,
I received you.
Stanza 4:
But the aim
Is still unclear.
I alone
Am not the reason for this.
The goal of life
Is not very clear,
So I find
It hard to live properly.
Stanza 5:
If I became mean-minded
Because of my heart,
Then which one can I call
My true heart?
Is there any way
For the heart
To be
Revived again?
Stanza 6:
If I fell
Because of sin,
Who placed this sin
Inside me?
If I am not
Responsible for it,
How did I fall?
Please tell me
The answer to this.
Stanza 7:
Though I’ve asked
These questions many times,
No answer
Is clear to me.
The secret
Behind this
Is not
Revealed to me.
Stanza 8:
So, depending
On your grace,
Knowing you
In the peace you give,
Realizing that
I am saved; I am saved,
I came to your feet,
Taking refuge in you.
Mathigiri, 13-10-2020, 11.30 p.m.
BT Song 1245: Unknown Secret
Classical English Version:
Stanza 1:
I entered this world
Only to dwell.
I received a heart
To become mean-spirited.
I learned of sin
To know how to fall.
I received thy grace
To seek my redemption.
Stanza 2:
Though I utter
In simplistic terms,
The secret behind this
Is indeed profound.
Many souls
Have sought to fathom it,
Yet only a few
Have attained victory.
Stanza 3:
I learned the purpose
Of life in this realm.
I discovered through my heart
The depths of my meanness.
By reason of my fall,
I grasped the nature of sin.
After redemption,
I received thee.
Stanza 4:
Yet the aim
Is still unclear.
I alone
Am not the cause of this.
The goal of life
Is not well-defined,
Thus I find
It hard to live aright.
Stanza 5:
If I have become mean-spirited
Due to my heart,
Then which can I name
As my true heart?
Is there any means
For the heart
To be
Revived once more?
Stanza 6:
If I fell
Through sin,
Who planted this sin
Within me?
If I bear no
Responsibility for it,
How then did I fall?
Please enlighten me
With the answer.
Stanza 7:
Though such inquiries
Have been made oft,
No answer
Is clear unto me.
The secret
Behind this
Is not
Disclosed unto me.
Stanza 8:
Therefore, relying
Upon thy grace,
Knowing thee
In the peace thou grantest,
Realizing that
I am saved; I am saved,
I came to thy feet,
Taking refuge in thee.
