BT Song 1296
After writing the previous song, I read it one more time, closed the paper, and sat silently. Suddenly, the first line of this song echoed in my mind. As inspiration continued to flow, I couldn’t resist taking up the paper and pencil, and I wrote this song within five minutes, without needing to hunt for words as they poured into my mind. Although we don’t have a private God, as we develop a personal relationship with Him, that relationship becomes very unique for each devotee. It is a bond that cannot be named, as it is distinct for every devotee.
BT Song 1296 This is True
Simple English Version:
I have seen
One thing
Which no one has seen
Anywhere else
I understood
The special relationship
Which you gave
Only to me
Though others might
Mock me by saying:
‘What is new
In this relationship?’
I won’t give
Any answer to them
And I won’t try
To help them understand it
However they say that
God is common to everyone
And even try to
Prove it to me
There is no way
For me to tell them
What you have done
Only for me
There are many acts
Which are common to all
There are common words
To explain them
But I have a
Special name
For the relationship
You have for me
But there is no
Language to tell about it
There is no name
For that experience
One cannot understand it
Unless it is
Felt deeply
And experienced in life
Therefore I have seen
What no one has ever seen
And this alone
Is true indeed

BT Song 1296 This is True
Classical English Version:
I have beheld
A singular thing
Which none hath seen
Anywhere else
I comprehended
The special bond
Which thou didst bestow
Exclusively upon me
Though others may
Mockingly declare:
‘What novelty lies
In this bond?’
I shall not provide
Any answer to them
Nor shall I endeavor
To help them grasp it
However much they proclaim
That God is common to all
And strive to
Prove it to me
There is no means
For me to convey to them
What thou hast done
Exclusively for me
There are many acts
Common to all
And common words
To describe them
Yet I possess
A special name
For the bond
Thou hast with me
But there is no
Tongue to speak of it
No name
For that experience
One cannot comprehend it
Unless it is
Felt deeply
And lived in the heart
Therefore I have seen
What no one hath ever seen
And this alone
Is true indeed

BT Song 1297
Recently, an elderly person with whom I exchange emails wrote, “My nature is my culture.” I liked that statement. However, we try to live within a particular culture, but our personal nature often rebels against certain aspects of that culture. This rebellion helps us to form our own culture to suit our needs. Reflecting on this, I realized that no matter how we shape our culture or are shaped by it, the new nature we are supposed to inherit from the Lord should bring some change in us. Considering my nature, I don’t see any such change. I then pondered over aspects of my nature that have become impediments to my transformation, so that I won’t conform to the image of this world. This discouraged me a bit. Pouring my heart out, I wrote this song as a prayer for the day.
BT Song 1297 My Nature Won’t Change
Simple English Version:
Once this becomes
My nature
What is the use of
Blaming me?
My nature
Becomes habitual to me
And I learn to
Live with it
You redeemed me
Knowing my nature
You took the responsibility
To change it
You tried
So many ways
But you were
Disappointed till this day
I tried to
Cooperate with you
I joined you
Like a grafted branch
No new branch
Ever came from it
Still the grafted branch
Has not yet dried
Taking pity
On the tree that does not give fruit
Digging properly around it
And putting manure
Pouring water properly
And keeping a watchman
You kept patience
Thinking it will give fruit
But I don’t have
The patience you have
And I don’t have
Faith in myself anymore
But I didn’t give up
My faith in you
Therefore my expectations
Didn’t reduce
This change
Has come within me
Only that hope alone
Protected me
Whatever might be
The result
Finally, your image
Will come within me
Till that time
We both have to cooperate
And accept this situation
Let us live each day

BT Song 1297 My Nature Won’t Change
Classical English Version:
Once this becomes
My nature,
What profit is there
In blaming me?
My nature
Hath become my habit,
And with it
I have learned to live.
Thou didst redeem me
Knowing my nature,
Thou didst take the burden
Of changing it.
Thou hast tried
In myriad ways,
Yet disappointment
Hath marked thy days.
I endeavored to
Cooperate with thee,
I joined thee
As a grafted branch.
No new shoot
Hath sprung from it,
Yet the grafted branch
Hath not dried up.
Taking pity
On the unfruitful tree,
Thou didst dig around it
And apply manure.
Thou didst pour water
And set a watchman,
With patience didst thou wait
For it to bear fruit.
Yet I lack
The patience thou hast,
And I no longer
Have faith in myself.
Yet my faith
In thee I have not forsaken,
Thus my expectations
Have not waned.
This change
Hath arisen within me,
Only that hope
Hath sustained me.
Whatever may be
The result,
Thy likeness
Shall come within me.
Until that time
We must cooperate,
And accept this condition
And live each day.

BT Song 1298
After my regular work, I was about to read Muktiveda when the first line of this song came to mind as a conversation with the Lord. I thought, “No more of these ‘question and answer’ songs. Even I am tired of such songs.” But my mind refused to listen. I then resolved that this should not be the same old rhetoric of the question and answer songs. As inspiration continued to flow, I wrote this song and left the decision to the Lord. However, I am not comfortable with the last line, so I added another line within brackets, giving Him the option either to keep quiet, not giving any answer, or to give me a ‘yes’ or ‘no’ answer. The saying “Irandil ondru” (between the two) is a common saying in Tamil when someone demands a final response in the form of ‘yes’ or ‘no’, which most people try to evade, preferring to give a roundabout answer.
BT Song 1298 Say ‘Yes’ or ‘No’
Simple English Version:
I have a
Question for you.
You have
The answer for it.
But I stood
Silently before you,
Hesitating to
Ask that question.
So many times
In the past,
I received answers
By asking questions.
However I changed
My questions,
I know well that
Your answer remains the same.
Therefore this time
I didn’t ask
The question,
Expecting some answer.
But the anger
In my heart
Won’t go
Unless I question you.
What kind of
Thoughts you have
About me
In your heart?
What is the use
Of being created, redeemed,
Protected, and led by you
So far?
Though I
Sing and praise you,
Writing poems
And calling myself your devotee,
The change I longed for
Never came within me.
You also didn’t want
To bring it.
Who is to be
Blamed for that?
You better tell
Only that to me.
When you have
The thought that
You know
Everything,
What is the use
Of this drama
Of asking the question
And receiving the answer?
But I don’t want
The regular answer
Which you
Used to give.
Better you tell me
Clearly ‘yes’ or ‘no’.
If you refuse to give,
Then keep quiet.

BT Song 1298 Say ‘Yes’ or ‘No’
Classical English Version:
I have a
Question for thee,
Thou hast
The answer for it.
Yet silently
I stood before thee,
Hesitating to
Voice that question.
Oftentimes in
The past,
Have I received answers
By posing queries.
However I altered
My questions,
I know well that
Thy answer remains the same.
Thus this time
I refrained from
Asking the question,
Expecting a response.
Yet the anger
In my heart
Will not abate
Unless I question thee.
What manner of
Thoughts dost thou
Hold of me
In thy heart?
What profit is there
In being created, redeemed,
Protected, and led by thee
Thus far?
Though I
Sing and praise thee,
Writing verses
And calling myself thy devotee,
The change I yearned for
Never came within me.
Nor didst thou
Desire to bring it.
Who is to be
Blamed for that?
Tell me
Just that.
When thou
Dost think
Thou knowest
Everything,
What avails this
Drama of
Questioning and
Answering?
But I do not seek
The usual answer
Thou dost
Give.
Better thou tell me
Clearly ‘yes’ or ‘no’.
If thou refuse to give,
Then remain silent.

BT Song 1299
For me, seeking peace of mind is not about running away from responsibilities and conflicts but facing them with the grace of God. As I find the peace the Lord bestows despite my circumstances, I always celebrate it, in spite of the struggles I face each day in life.
BT Song 1299 The Peace That I Search
Simple English Version:
When I cannot find peace in you,
What is the use of searching in the world?
When I cannot enjoy my relationship with you,
What is the use of having fellowship with the world?
You bestowed the peace I was seeking,
You enjoyed fellowship with me each day.
I am living because of my relationship with you,
I am finding the peace you give to me.
However trials might come,
Though sufferings surround me,
When you are there to guard me,
Why should I be troubled?
Though many might give
Various definitions of peace,
I have my own explanation,
And you know it well.
I know well that
Keeping silence is not peace.
I also proclaim that
Emptying my mind is not peace.
I know that living without trials and sufferings
Is not a sign of peace.
I know well that emptying my mind
By controlling it is also not peace.
Understanding the situation and realizing the need,
Knowing the purpose of life,
And accepting the responsibility you gave,
I will find peace when I accomplish it well.
You also promised
To give that kind of peace.
Accepting it and living with you each day,
I will find peace in the life I live each day.

BT Song 1300
Facing numerous problems over the past few days, and reflecting on the grace of God that sustains me, I wrote this song to express that there is no safety and protection outside the will of God for a devotee.
BT Song 1300 I Need Patience
Simple English Version:
I have
Many expectations,
Because I need
Many things.
But if you delay
Answering me,
I don’t have
Patience for that.
You have
Great patience,
There is a reason
For everything you do.
But oh my Lord,
I don’t have
That much patience,
You know that well.
This is not
A time to wait,
It is not proper
To delay in giving.
Your grace
Should always
Overflow the cup,
Remaining constant.
Where do I have
The strength to face
So many pressures
Cornering me?
My condition now
Is like a creeper
Waving without
Any support.
You should be
That support,
And I should be
The creeper on it.
Until it gives
Fruit in time,
You should protect it
By giving it nutrients.
There is no separate
Life for the creeper,
If it is removed
It cannot survive.
When it starts to
Sprout and spread,
If there is no care,
It won’t bear fruit.
I am the branch
That spreads on you,
There is no protection
Other than you.

BT Song 1296

BT Song 1297
