BT Songs 1311 to 1315

BT Song 1311

As I was reading again about the complicated topic of atman—relating to essence, mind, etc., I realized one thing. No matter how scholarly the authors might be and how much they try to help us understand this complex subject, the true nature of the inner being still evades everyone’s comprehension. As Sir Francis Younghusband, K.C.I.E., K.C.S.I., C.I.E., says in his foreword to the book A Search in Secret India by Dr. Paul Brunton (p. 7, B.I. Publications Pvt Ltd, New Delhi, 1934; Reprint, 1989), “The sure instinct of the human soul is to keep them withdrawn in the inmost recesses, accessible to few—perhaps to none.”—p. 7

BT Song1311 Inner Heart – Simple English Version

1.

No matter how philosophy

Clearly tells us the truth,

And no matter how much

Science gives explanations,

2.

Understanding the

Nature of the inner heart

Won’t be that easy

For everyone.

3.

When intelligence says one thing,

The mind will reject it,

Seeing this struggle,

The heart will be troubled.

4.

In between,

The soul for its part,

Will add to the confusion

By sharing many philosophies.

5.

Who knows which one is the heart?

And which one is the mind?

However explained,

Who can understand it?

6.

However hard we try

With various illustrations,

In the end,

The heart will remain confused.

7.

Transcending both

Philosophy and Science,

Seeking a state

Where ignorance can’t reach,

8.

Like a child

Without any confusion,

Giving up all

Kinds of philosophies,

9.

Once we reach the state

Of being like a baby,

The inner heart will become

Very clear for everyone.

Gurukulam, 3-12-2021, 11.45 p.m.

BT Song1311 Inner Heart – Classical English Version

1.

Though philosophy may clearly tell,

And science explanations impart,

Understanding the inner heart well,

Is not an easy art.

2.

To grasp the heart’s nature,

Is a challenge profound,

Not easily achieved

By all men around.

3.

When wisdom speaks truth,

And mind casts it away,

The heart, troubled in youth,

Finds itself in dismay.

4.

Between them, the soul,

With its own voice of lore,

Adds further confusion,

With philosophies more.

5.

Who truly discerns

The heart from the mind?

Though explanations abound,

Who comprehension can find?

6.

Though we try to explain,

With diverse illustration,

The heart, in the end,

Finds only confusion.

7.

Beyond science and thought,

We seek a state pure,

Where ignorance reaches not,

And wisdom is sure.

8.

Like a child unconfused,

Abandoning all strife,

Casting aside all doctrines,

Embracing simple life.

9.

When this state is attained,

To remain like the youth,

The inner heart’s clarity,

Shall reveal the pure truth.

 BT Song 1312

As an infant does not know anything else in this world other than its mother, there is no need for it to know how to ask its mother for its needs. Of course, when the need arises, it will cry, which the mother will recognize. But once it is completely immersed in the world of its mother, it lives in that bliss without knowing anything else. The same is the case with a bhakta. As a fish lives naturally in the water, she lives in the care of her Bhagavan. So once she becomes like an infant, she will only enjoy the bliss of bhakti in her life, not even knowing how to ask for the grace of God to continue that bliss in her life.

BT Song1312 Forgot to Ask – Simple English Version

1.

I have nothing more

To say further,

There is no need

For me to say anything.

2.

When you lead me,

Knowing all my needs,

I don’t need to ask

For anything specifically.

3.

I become like an infant

That doesn’t know its needs,

With you, my mother, there,

I am unaware of it.

4.

When I find joy

In living like this,

I don’t know how to

Think separately.

5.

To the infant

That knows only its mother,

There exists

No separate world.

6.

It never finds

Separate joy,

As it has a relationship

Full of affection with its mother.

7.

Once I attained

That kind of experience,

What else should I seek?

I cannot understand.

8.

But I need

Your grace

To not miss that experience,

That’s all I know.

9.

You should bestow

That abundantly,

I came to you

Only to ask for that.

10.

When you are there

To give before I ask,

I even forgot

To ask for it.

Gurukulam, 13-12-2021, 10.15 p.m.

BT Song1312 Forgot to Ask – Classical English Version

1.

I have no more

Words to convey,

There is no need

For me to say.

2.

When you lead me,

Knowing my every need,

I need not ask

For anything indeed.

3.

Like an infant

Unaware of its plight,

With you, my mother,

All is right.

4.

When joy I find

In this simple living,

I do not know

To think with misgiving.

5.

To the infant

Knowing only its mother,

There exists

No world another.

6.

Separate joy

It never perceives,

For with its mother

Affection achieves.

7.

When such an experience

I attain,

What else to seek

I cannot explain.

8.

Yet I need

Your grace to stay,

To not lose this joy,

In any way.

9.

Grant this grace

In abundant measure,

I came to you

For this treasure.

10.

When you bestow

Before I implore,

I even forgot

To ask for more.

Gurukulam, 13-12-2021, 10.15 p.m.

BT Song 1313

In the End, Only Experience

BT Song1313 Questions Without Answer – Simple English Version

1.

In this world

Where we search for answers,

You made me live

Without needing any answer.

2.

You changed all

The answers I received

Back into

Questions for me.

3.

In this game,

Which seems like a riddle,

I never found

A final answer.

4.

Once you came

As the answer in my life,

The questions

Never became less.

5.

I don’t have

Proper answers

For all the

Questions you ask.

6.

Though I found

Answers to my questions,

The confusion

Has not yet left my heart.

7.

But this is indeed

True in life,

I clearly

Understood this.

8.

Whether I am confused or

Get a clear answer,

As long as you remain,

I will live accepting you as my answer.

Gurukulam, 15-12-2021, 11.15 p.m.

BT Song1313 Questions Without Answer – Classical English Version

1.

In this world

Where answers are sought,

You have made me live

Without the need for thought.

2.

You transformed

The answers I did receive

Back into questions,

Hard to conceive.

3.

In this riddle,

This puzzling game,

A final answer

I never did claim.

4.

When you appeared

As the answer to my strife,

The questions remained,

No end to this life.

5.

Proper answers

I do not possess

For all the questions

You seem to address.

6.

Though answers I found

To my own queries,

Confusion persists,

The heart still wearies.

7.

Yet this is the truth,

The reality of life,

I have come to understand

Despite all the strife.

8.

Whether clarity I gain

Or confusion I endure,

As long as you stay,

I accept you as the answer, sure.

Gurukulam, 15-12-2021, 11.15 p.m.

 BT Song 1314

I had a long talk with my nephew, Krupa, about shifting my mother to Chennai, close to his house, so that my sister and he can take care of her. I gave him various options. He agreed that she needs to be shifted to Chennai, either to live with them or near them. He also ruled out the option of sending her to any old age home. I asked him to discuss this with his parents and wife.

That night, as I was thinking about it, I realized that, as my sister and many others have said, I tend to rush things and never have patience. This is true. But when my patience is running out due to tiredness in both body and mind, I sometimes rush and make quick decisions. In the past, I have done several such things. But before and after making the decision, I pray to the Lord to do only His will, even though I remain impatient in my decision. As I was contemplating my impatience and the present scenario of taking care of my mother alone with my back pain, I felt I had no other option but to do this. But as usual, I can complain about it to the Lord, and I have done it again through this song. If He has His own plan, there is no use in lamenting further. But because of this, I cannot let Him go that easily and will continue to pester Him by continuously lamenting.

BT Song1314 Become Tired – Simple English Version

1.

Tell me that

Which is your will,

Set aside all

My other noises.

2.

Please listen

With much patience

To all that this poor

Fool laments.

3.

Whatever might be

My efforts,

The end result

Should be yours.

4.

Whichever my

Heart seeks,

I need your

Consent in that.

5.

Though I have

Written this much easily,

That is not possible for me,

That I know very well.

6.

As you know

My nature well,

If you do accordingly,

I will find peace.

7.

But there is also

A time for that,

And that time

Is with you.

8.

Though you have

Uttered this many times,

Now I plead with you

To bestow it quickly.

9.

I don’t have

The patience that you have,

I don’t need to give

A reason for that.

10.

Even I don’t have

The energy to tell that,

I have become

Very tired.

11.

There is no use

In telling further

If you don’t have

Mercy upon me.

12.

But if this becomes

Your will for me,

There is no use

In lamenting further.

13.

But can I let you go

That easily because of that?

I will continue to do the same,

As there is no other option left for me.

Gurukulam, 17-12-2021, 11.30 p.m.

BT Song1314 Become Tired – Classical English Version

1.

Tell me that

Which is your will,

Set aside all

My clamorous thrill.

2.

With patience, please listen

To this poor fool’s plight,

Lamentations that echo

In the quiet of night.

3.

Whatever the efforts

My hands might deploy,

The end should be yours,

The source of my joy.

4.

Whatever my heart

Desires to obtain,

Your consent in all

I must surely gain.

5.

Though these words

I write with such ease,

To achieve them myself,

I know is a tease.

6.

Knowing my nature

As well as you do,

If you act in accord,

Peace will ensue.

7.

But timing for this

Is within your command,

And that time lies solely

Within your hand.

8.

Though you’ve spoken this truth

Many times in the past,

I plead you to grant

My wish at last.

9.

I lack the patience

You so calmly possess,

A reason for this

I need not express.

10.

I am so weary,

I cannot explain,

Tiredness grips me,

It is my refrain.

11.

There’s no use in speaking

If your mercy is withheld,

My pleas would be empty,

My heart would be felled.

12.

If this is your will,

My lament is in vain,

I’ll cease my complaints,

Though they cause me such pain.

13.

Yet can I let go

And easily depart?

No, I’ll persist,

For it’s my only art.

Gurukulam, 17-12-2021, 11.30 p.m.

 BT Song 1315

Again, I faced some kind of wrestle with my mind about several issues. Even though I try to rationalize my thoughts and actions, I still realize that I don’t have control over my mind, which goes its own way. So, I have to go and wrestle with the Lord, as He alone created me with this nature.

BT Song 1315 Many-Sided Struggle – Simple English Version

1.

I laughed

Within me,

Thinking about

The nature of my mind.

2.

But as this

Became habitual,

I also

Accepted it as normal.

3.

I let

It go

In its

Own way.

4.

I thought that

It would come to rest

Once it became tired

After wandering too much.

5.

But it seems that

It is not going

To stop wandering

On its own.

6.

Therefore, taking

Pity on it,

I decided to give

Some rest to it.

7.

I talked to it

With much affection

And tried to control it

By rebuking it.

8.

However I tried,

I could not tame it.

I don’t think that

It will rest on its own.

9.

Therefore I came

As usual unto you,

As you were the

Reason even for this.

10.

Creating me

With this nature,

What benefit

Do you receive?

11.

If you give

Deliverance from this,

What are you going to lose?

Better tell me that.

12.

I struggle each day

With my mind,

And I argue with you

For the same.

13.

Thinking that

What kind of life this is,

I found only

This alone as the result.

14.

As I am used to

Many-sided struggle,

I have even accepted

This calmly.

Gurukulam, 18-12-2021, 10.15 p.m.

BT Song 1315 Many-Sided Struggle – Classical English Version

1.

I laughed within

As thoughts did twine,

Pondering deep

This mind of mine.

2.

Yet as it became

A habitual plight,

I embraced its nature

As normal, quite.

3.

I let it wander

In its own way,

Hoping it might

Find rest one day.

4.

I thought it would rest

When tired at last,

After its wandering

Had fully passed.

5.

But it appears

Its roaming won’t cease,

It won’t find

Its own release.

6.

Therefore, pitying

Its endless quest,

I sought to grant it

Some needed rest.

7.

I spoke to it

With tender care,

Attempting to tame it

With loving flair.

8.

Yet all my efforts

Were in vain,

I saw that rest

It would not gain.

9.

Thus, I turned to you

As I always do,

For even this turmoil

Is caused by you.

10.

Creating me

With such a mind,

What gain in this

Do you find?

11.

If deliverance from this

You grant to me,

What loss, then,

Would there be?

12.

Each day I wrestle

With my thought,

And with you,

My pleas are fraught.

13.

Pondering life’s

Puzzling art,

I find this struggle

Is my part.

14.

Accustomed now

To struggle’s face,

I accept it calmly,

In your grace.

Gurukulam, 18-12-2021, 10.15 p.m.

 BT Song 1311 –
