BT Songs 1326 to 1330

BT Song 1326

When I moved from Gurukulam to Mathigiri, I often longed to return to enjoy the calm and quietness there, which helped me enjoy my solitude. However, after moving back with my mother in September 2021, I found myself too tired both in body and mind to fully enjoy the solitude. One night, after helping my mother at 2:30 AM, I made a cup of tea and sat quietly to enjoy the calm and cool night. I began to question the Lord, wondering why He allows me to suffer beyond my capacity, even though He knows how much I long for peace. Though trials are part of bhakti, I felt that the Lord should also share in my pain. Not wanting to cause Him further pain, I asked Him to stop the trials. Inspired by these thoughts, I wrote this song in the viraha bhakti genre (love in separation).

BT Song 1326 Don’t Continue

Simple English Version

1.

How many days

I have longed

I am here alone

Longing for you

2.

Thinking about you

I became very thin

Where have you gone

Leaving me alone

3.

Remembering your words

That you won’t

Leave me

Even for a second

4.

I become frustrated

Thinking about you

As even a second

Feels like a yuga

5.

Separation is

Not new to me

Better you

Think that in your heart

6.

But you forget that

As I am used to this

I will continue

To tolerate this

7.

How much devotion

I might have

However you

Tested my devotion

8.

Can you bear any more

If you see my pain

Of separation

Better you tell me

9.

Don’t think that

This trial is only for me

And never forget

Your share in this

10.

As pain becomes

Common for both of us

Don’t continue

To test me further

11.

For what purpose

Did you redeem me; think that

Also understanding that

You died for me

12.

Removing this longing

And removing this separation

You come and

Stay with me permanently

Gurukulam, 17-1-2022, 3.00 a.m.

BT Song 1326 Cease Thy Trials

Classical English Version

1.

How many days, alas, have I longed,

Here, I dwell alone,

With yearning deep for thee,

My heart, a captive, ever forlorn.

2.

Reflecting upon thee,

I withered, became frail,

Where hast thou ventured,

Leaving me in this solitary vale?

3.

Recalling thy promise,

That thou wouldst never part,

Even for a fleeting second,

From my yearning heart.

4.

Frustration envelops me,

As I dwell on thoughts of thee,

For even a mere second,

Stretches into eternity.

5.

Separation is not novel,

For me, it bears no surprise,

Ponder this within thy heart,

Let wisdom in thee arise.

6.

Yet thou forgettest,

That I am accustomed to this pain,

I shall endure,

In sorrow and in strain.

7.

No matter my devotion’s depth,

However much I possess,

Thy trials and tests,

Have left me in distress.

8.

Can thy heart bear,

The sight of my suffering so keen?

Better to reveal to me,

Thy thoughts serene.

9.

Do not presume,

These trials are solely mine,

Recall always,

Thy share in this design.

10.

As our pain becomes shared,

Between thee and me,

Do not prolong these tests,

I implore, set me free.

11.

Reflect upon thy purpose,

For redeeming my soul,

Remember thy sacrifice,

To make me whole.

12.

Dispelling this longing,

And banishing separation’s woe,

Come, dwell with me eternally,

And let our love eternally flow.

Gurukulam, 17-1-2022, 3.00 a.m.

BT Song 1327

I recently watched a good debate in Tamil (Pattimandram Sankara TV, January 15, 2022), where three speakers discussed which is more important: simplicity, intellect, or wealth. The judge concluded that simplicity is the greatest because it lacks the pride associated with intellect and wealth. However, I believe that even simplicity can bring subtle pride. Sometimes, maintaining simplicity can be costly, as Sarojini Naidu famously said about Gandhi: to keep Gandhiji simple, Congress had to spend a lot. For me, humility is the greatest virtue, as it acknowledges that even simplicity in life, thought, and behavior is a gift from God.

BT Song 1327 The Greatness of Humility

Simple English Version

1.

Humility and simplicity

Are enough in life

The world will

Become our own

2.

Though we might have

Thousands of talents

How much comfort

Might come in life

3.

Humility will bestow

More patience

Simplicity will

Give more strength

4.

When wealth accumulates

Pride will come automatically

More intellect will

Help it to grow further

5.

As pride

Blinds our sight

One day they

Will defeat us

6.

The accumulated

Wealth might leave us

Similarly, our intellect

Also might fail us

7.

But both simplicity

And humility will give

A life

Without knowing defeat

8.

Considering oneself

Humble to others

Once we serve others

With simplicity

9.

Where is there

Any place for pride in it?

Opportunity won’t come

For us to fall

10.

At the same time

These simple virtues

Won’t come to us

On their own

11.

Without the grace of God

And long patience

They won’t

Be within our reach

Gurukulam, 17-1-2022, 4.30 a.m.

BT Song 1327 The Greatness of Humility

Classical English Version

1.

Humility and simplicity,

Suffice in life alone,

The world shall be,

Our very own.

2.

Though we may possess,

A thousand talents fair,

And comforts in abundance,

May come from everywhere.

3.

Humility bestows,

A patience deep and vast,

Simplicity grants,

A strength that will last.

4.

When wealth accumulates,

Pride follows close behind,

Greater intellect then,

Will enhance both in kind.

5.

For pride will blind,

Our sight and reason,

One day they will,

Bring us down in due season.

6.

The wealth amassed,

May leave our side,

And intellect too,

May no longer abide.

7.

Yet simplicity and humility,

Bestow a life so sweet,

One that knows no,

Defeat or retreat.

8.

By seeing oneself,

As humble among peers,

And serving others simply,

We conquer our fears.

9.

In such service,

Where is pride’s domain?

No chance shall arise,

For us to fall again.

10.

Yet these simple virtues,

Will not come unbidden,

On their own

11.

Without God’s grace,

And patience enduring long,

These virtues will not,

To us belong.

Gurukulam, 17-1-2022, 4.30 a.m.

BT Song 1328

On another calm and peaceful night, after reading my regular portion of Muktiveda, I sat quietly. I decided to drown within myself to find my true nature. I realized that, as a bhakta of the Lord, my true nature is my identity as His devotee. Thus, for me, the answer to the Indian philosophical question “Who am I?” is that I am a bhakta of the Lord. Inspired by this meditation, I wrote this song.

BT Song 1328 I Found Me

Simple English Version

1.

Though I searched within,

Diving deep inside,

Until the end,

I couldn’t find myself.

2.

Though I came to you,

Seeking your presence,

Until now,

I couldn’t see you.

3.

If I search for something

That I never lost,

No matter where,

I won’t find it again.

4.

There’s no use living

Like a fool searching

For the towel

Already on his shoulder.

5.

I understood myself

Only within you,

And I found you

Within me too.

6.

Once we mingled,

There’s no need

To search for each other

Separately anymore.

7.

Let others search

Where they lost things,

Let them continue

Until they find them.

8.

But for me, there’s no need

To search for myself,

Who is completely

Lost in you.

9.

Even the thought

That I am lost

Never came

To my mind.

10.

Therefore, there’s no use

In searching within me,

Trying to find myself

By diving deep inside.

11.

Once I seek you

Within me,

I will find both of us,

Unchanged.

Gurukulam, 22-1-20222, 10.45 p.m.

BT Song 1328 I Found Myself

Classical English Version

1.

Though I delved within,

In depths profound,

Until the end,

Myself I could not find.

2.

Though unto you I came,

Your presence sought,

Till now,

Your visage eludes me.

3.

If I seek that

Which was never lost,

Nowhere on earth,

Shall it be found anew.

4.

No use in living

As a fool does,

Searching for the towel

Resting on his shoulder.

5.

Within you alone,

Myself I understood,

And within my depths,

You I did find.

6.

Once we are merged,

Separate searches cease,

No longer need

To seek each other.

7.

Let others search

Where their losses lie,

Let them persist

Till they recover them.

8.

But I need not search

For myself, now lost,

In you entirely,

My essence found.

9.

The thought

Of being lost,

Never did

Enter my mind.

10.

Thus, no purpose

In delving within,

Attempting to find

Myself once more.

11.

When I seek you,

Within my soul,

There we both reside,

Unchanged, eternal.

Gurukulam, 22-1-20222, 10.45 p.m.

BT Song 1329

After reading my regular portion of Muktiveda, I was not in the mood to read anything further. I sat quietly, contemplating whether to meditate on a subject, but decided against it. Instead, I chose to immerse myself in the peace and presence of the Lord, without seeking any special experience. Passing time has never been a problem for me, as I have a constant inner communication with the Lord. Sitting quietly and calmly, abiding in Him beyond reason, feeling, emotion, or experience, has become part of my sadhana, especially when living a solitary life. Inspired by this inner communication, I wrote this song.

BT Song 1329 You Became Everything

Simple English Version

1.

Whether I come with feelings

Or stand before you without any,

I never forget you,

Who lives within me.

2.

As you remain like hidden fire

Within my thoughts,

I even give up

The thought of thinking of you.

3.

Unable to contemplate,

Unwilling to act,

I followed you

As my mind led me.

4.

Once you became

Everything in my life,

I no longer knew

What to do for you separately.

5.

Whether I sit, stand,

Or lie down,

All these acts

Are only for you.

6.

Whether time passes

Or stands still,

It always

Feels the same to me.

7.

In this life

That is always changing,

I received you,

Who never changes.

8.

Then whatever happens

Is nothing

But your own act,

Nothing else.

9.

Therefore, not experiencing you

Only through feelings,

I bowed at your feet

Even without any feelings.

Gurukulam, 24-1-2022, 11.00 p.m.

BT Song 1329 You Became Everything

Classical English Version

1.

Whether I come with feeling

Or stand before you void,

I never forget thee,

Who dwells within me.

2.

As thou art a hidden fire

Within my thoughts,

I even forsake

The thought of thee.

3.

Unable to contemplate,

Unwilling to act,

I followed thee

As my mind led me.

4.

Once thou becamest

All in my life,

No longer knew I

What to do for thee alone.

5.

Whether I sit, stand,

Or lie down,

All acts

Are for thee alone.

6.

Whether time doth pass

Or stand still,

It ever remains

The same for me.

7.

In this life

That ever changes,

I received thee,

Who changest not.

8.

Then whatever occurs

Is naught but

Thy own act,

Nothing else.

9.

Thus, not experiencing thee

Only through my feelings,

I bowed at thy feet

Even devoid of feeling.

Gurukulam, 24-1-2022, 11.00 p.m.

BT Song 1330

One morning, I woke up very early around 4:00 AM (not disturbed by my mother). Unable to sleep, I lay calmly on my bed, not wanting to get up. Around 5:30 AM, the first line of this song echoed in my mind. After having a cup of tea, I sat quietly and, inspired by the thought, wrote this song about living each day with the Lord together.

BT Song 1330 Let Us Live Together

 Simple English Version

1.

Today, which

Is given to me to live,

Once I live it

And complete it in you,

Thinking of your duty,

Which you have specifically,

You should bestow

Your grace on me.

2.

Whatever the struggle

In the world might be,

However heavy

The responsibilities become,

To overcome them

Easily,

You should come as my companion;

What else is there for me to say?

3.

Though I longed

To live alone,

Though I donned the saffron robe,

Calling myself a sannyasi,

I don’t want solitude

Without you;

I don’t want saffron

Without responsibility.

4.

No one can understand

Our privacy;

There is no place

For others in it.

Whoever might be

Living around us,

No hurdle will come

To the sweetness of our privacy.

5.

When we both are

Together alone,

Even the sense of

Separation between us won’t come.

Once we both

Live together,

Nothing can

Separate us.

6.

Therefore, in this day

Assigned to us,

Let us live

Together in it,

Immersed in its

Sweetness.

Let us live like this

Forever and ever.

Gurukulam, 25-1-2022, 5.45 a.m.

The sweetness of our privacy.

5.

When we are

Let us live thus

BT Song 1326
