BT Song 1356

Kannan and Saradha have been staying with us in the ashram for the past four weeks and will be leaving on April 2nd. They have been a tremendous help, particularly in taking care of my mother, and Kannan has been instrumental in fixing numerous small issues in the building and supervising the repair work. Although Kannan and I often disagree on many things and have frequent arguments, our friendship embodies the golden principle of “agree to disagree” without being disagreeable. Kannan is one of those rare friends who live by this principle. Reflecting on our friendship and his care and concern for me, I wrote this song, comparing it to how the Lord also disagrees with me on several issues but never remains disagreeable.

BT Song 1356 This My Life

 Simple English Version

You went ahead of me,

Arranged everything beforehand,

Completed my tasks simply,

Made my life an easy one.

I never carried burdens,

Lacked the strength to bear them,

No one to load or unload,

And I had no patience.

I told you clearly,

If others carried and brought,

Unloaded and served me,

I could live with them.

I lacked maturity,

To adjust with others,

Respect their feelings,

This thought never came to me.

Knowing my nature,

You came to me voluntarily,

Fulfilled all my needs,

Did my bidding.

Once I said,

Only we could adjust,

You sent angels,

Who could do the same.

Used to this life,

I refused alternatives,

You had no other choice,

But to stay with me.

Getting up before me,

Doing all the work,

All day long,

Never resting, taking care of me.

As I wished this life to continue,

Even after death,

You assured me,

This life will go on forever.

Though I shared this life,

With others,

They refused to believe,

I never worried.

BT Song 1356 This My Life

 Classical English Version

Ahead of me, thou went,

Arranging all things well before,

Completing my works simply,

Thou madest my life an easy one.

Ne’er had I the habit of bearing burdens,

Nor the strength to carry them,

None to load and unload them,

Nor had I patience.

I spake to thee clearly,

If others bore the burden,

Brought it to the proper place,

Unloaded and served me,

Then alone could I live.

Maturity I lacked,

To adjust with others,

Respect their feelings,

This thought ne’er came to me.

Knowing my nature,

Thou camest to me voluntarily,

Fulfilling all my needs,

Thou didst my bidding.

Once I said,

Only we two could adjust,

Thou sent angels,

Who could do the same with me.

Accustomed to this life,

I refused alternatives,

Thou hadst no other choice,

But to remain with me.

Rising before me,

Doing all the day’s works,

Taking no rest,

Guarding me sleeplessly.

As I wished this life to endure,

Even after death,

Thou gavest assurance,

This life shall continue forever.

Though I shared this life,

With others,

They refused to believe,

Yet I worried not.

BT Song 1357

BT Song 1357 Are You Happy with the Rest

 Simple English Version

You send your response to me,

I stay very depressed, you see,

Think about all the messages,

That have come to you so far.

“She is alone and longing for you,

She lives like a dead person,

She thinks only of you,

Tired, without food and sleep.”

To convey this message,

I sent many emissaries,

None have returned,

No messages have come back.

What happened to those who came?

That is now a big question,

Did they stay with you permanently,

Like me, loving you?

If we love humans,

That love may change,

But if we love you,

That love becomes devotion.

As you have taken over them,

Will you refuse my devotion?

Would a shepherd be content,

With the rest of the sheep, if one is lost?

Leaving the rest behind,

Won’t he seek the lost one?

You told this story yourself,

Think of it again.

If you can live without me,

Then you have them,

If that is impossible,

Come and join me with them.

Gurukulam, 1-04-2022, 11.45 p.m.

BT Song 1357 Art Thou Happy with the Rest

 Classical English Version

Thou sendest thy response to me,

I remain very depressed, thou see’st,

Think upon all the messages,

That have come to thee thus far.

“She remains alone, longing for thee,

She lives as one dead,

Thinking only of thee,

Weary, without food and sleep.”

To convey this message,

Many emissaries I sent,

None returned,

No messages received.

What befell those who came?

That is now a grave question,

Did they stay with thee permanently,

Loving thee as I do?

If we love humans,

That love may change,

But if we love thee,

That love becomes devotion.

As thou hast taken them,

Wilt thou refuse my devotion?

Would a shepherd be content,

With the rest, if one sheep is lost?

Leaving all behind,

Would he not seek the lost one?

Thou alone told this tale,

Ponder it once more.

If thou canst live without me,

Then thou hast them,

If that be impossible,

Come and join me with them.

BT Song 1358

Real freedom is when a bhakta totally surrenders herself, giving up her free will. While slavery is an evil institution that arrests the body, mind, and soul of a person, in bhakti, the opposite happens. It grants true freedom to live a blissful life in the Lord when a bhakta gives up the right to choose. Recently, I was disturbed by several issues. Contemplating the real freedom in the Lord when I give myself completely to Him as His bonded slave, I wrote this song.

BT Song 1358 I Should Become a Bonded Slave

 Simple English Version

I will do your bidding,

If you teach me,

I will listen to you,

If you tell me.

I will follow you,

As you show the way,

I will give myself completely,

For you to lord over me.

As I know myself,

Very well,

It is better to live,

Completely depending on you.

Though you gave me,

My personal freedom,

As I knew the,

Danger in it.

I realized after,

Going my own way,

I understood my,

True nature.

How selfish I am,

I have the worst nature,

Added to that I have ego,

And an uncontrollable devilish heart.

After this bitter experience,

Unable to carry my own burden,

I returned to you,

And begged you to redeem me.

‘Why did you give,

This freedom to me?’

By asking this,

I wrestled with you.

If I become,

A complete slave to you,

Total freedom will come,

Within me.

When I think that,

I should have a little bit of freedom,

Then I will end up,

Even losing it.

If I remain,

As your bonded slave,

I can live,

With inner freedom.

If I think about,

My own rights,

Again I can fall,

Living as before.

Not to become like a dog,

That licks its own vomit,

Protecting me,

You should accept me as your slave.

Then this slave should,

Listen to what my Lord says,

And should live,

With complete obedience.

Gurukulam, 3-4-2022, 11.00 p.m.

BT Song 1359

As usual, I got up very early in the morning to help my mother. After giving her coffee and having my tea, I was about to start cooking as my sister was coming to stay with us for a few days. Suddenly, the first line of this song kept echoing in my mind. I wasn’t praying or meditating; in fact, I was busy with my regular work. But inspiration often comes unbidden and disturbs me. Unable to resist, I took this as an opportunity to have my regular tussle with the Lord and quickly wrote this song before continuing my work.

BT Song 1359 I Need Justice

 Simple English Version

I cannot do,

Anything on my own,

You should not do,

Anything on your own.

When we join together,

And do anything,

Then think of the,

Benefit in it.

Don’t ask me,

Again and again,

‘What is the benefit,

That is there for me in it?’

‘Whatever one does,

For the simple one,

Will go to God,

Automatically.’

Who said this?

You better tell me,

Then you come,

And ask the question to me.

When your justice,

Remains common to all,

Did you keep one,

Separately for me?

However, you have,

Done more for me,

Why are you reducing it now?

Is this correct?

Why should I,

Give up my rights,

That I have,

With you?

How can you,

Deny that by saying,

‘What I have done so far,

Is already too much’?

Did I ever ask you,

To do any favor,

That you haven’t done,

For others?

If you do more,

Favors for others,

Have I ever denied,

Or objected to it?

Though you have,

The right to decide,

What to do and when,

And to whom and how.

When the time has,

Come for my need,

Why should you,

Reject it now?

Give me the answer,

To this now,

Then come and,

Contend with me.

And whose side,

Is right,

And give your verdict,

Accordingly.

Gurukulam, 7-4-2022, 5.30 a.m.

BT Song 1360

One thing I’ve observed in my mother’s life is her dissatisfaction with what she has. Compared to other women of her age, she enjoys relatively good health and lives a peaceful life. Yet, she often laments, imagining troubles that may never come, failing to enjoy the present. It may be wrong for me to compare her life with others or even my own. However, bhakti has taught me one thing: to remain thankful to the Lord for the life He has given, despite its challenges and frustrations. Compared to others with similar vocations as a sannyasi or a single person, I struggle in many areas, especially in my responsibilities towards various people. Despite lamenting these challenges and frustrations, I thank God for the inner peace He has given me.

BT Song 1360 Live Peacefully

 Simple English Version

When many people,

Lament thinking,

What kind of,

Life is this,

Thinking of this,

My life,

I gave millions of thanks,

To you each day,

Thousands of,

Reasons are there,

To get frustrated,

And become tired of this life,

But I have,

Only one reason,

To give,

Thanks to you,

How many,

Are the blessings,

That you have given me,

Choosing one by one individually,

When I don’t have,

Time to count,

And tell,

Them to you,

Why should,

I lament thinking,

About the unnecessary worries,

And troubles which might not even come,

There is no life,

Without struggle,

And those who do not know to struggle,

Cannot even live,

When you are,

There to fight for me,

There is no place for defeat,

But only for victory,

Therefore I,

Gave my life to you,

Then I live,

Celebrating it,

Therefore I live,

Without frustration,

With much peace,

In you,

BT Song 1356

BT Song 1357
