BT Songs 1371 to 1375

 BT Song 1371

I never feel settled in life. Despite traveling extensively and staying in one place for long periods, such as in Gurukulam and Mathigiri, I constantly have the feeling of being unsettled, always anticipating another move. In the past, I had some strength to cope with this, but now, in my old age, with the added responsibility of caring for my mother, the prospect of moving again is daunting. My mother shares this sentiment, living each day with the frustration of potentially having to relocate again, considering her needs and our age. She feels settled here in the ashram, and I also like this place, but new challenges are arising that may prevent us from staying here continuously. Each day she spends in a melancholic mood, and I feel deep sorrow for her.

Her only option seems to be returning to Mathigiri. My sister insists that we come to Chennai to stay near her so she can take care of us. Torn between our needs and desires, unable to make a decision, I leave it to the Lord to decide what is best for both my mother and me. While deeply contemplating this issue, I wrote this song, pouring my heart out to Him.

After writing the song, I sat silently, accepting His will. As tears continued to flow, I found some peace and rest in Him.

BT Song 1371 Live with me

 Simple English Version

I surrendered my life

Into your hands

I asked you to

Live in it each day                   1

Other than this

What else can I do

How can I

Repay my debt to you            2

I never got the life

That I liked very much

And I didn’t like

The life I received                   3

Anyhow I am

Pushing through each day somehow

Your grace is

The reason for this                  4

There is nothing

For me to do anymore

If any changes come

They are of no use                  5

What am I going to do

Whatever might change

I don’t

Care about it                  6

There is no place

For the question

Who is going to live

You or me            7

You have lived so far [my life]

You will continue to live it

And you will

Complete my race                  8

As I clearly

Understand this

I have

No kind of attachment            9

Once I put my life

In your hands

I never refuse to live

Wherever you put me             10

This wide

World belongs to you

Surely there will be a

Place for me in it           11

Taking your own decision

Of which is that place

Leading me accordingly

You live with me            12

BT Song 1371 Live with me

 Classical English Version

I surrendered my life

Into thy hands

I requested thee to

Live in it each day                   1

Other than this

What else can I do?

How shall I

Repay my debt to thee?                   2

I never received the life

That I greatly desired

Nor did I like

The life that I received            3

Yet somehow, I am

Pushing through each day

Thy grace is

The reason for this                  4

There is naught

For me to do anymore

If any changes come

They are of no avail                5

What am I to do

Whatever might change

I care

Not about it          6

There is no place

For the question

Who is to live,

Thou or I?            7

Thou hast lived thus far [my life]

Thou shalt continue to live it

And thou shalt

Complete my race                  8

As I have clearly

Understood this

I have

No attachment               9

Once I placed my life

In thy hands

I never refuse to live

Wherever thou place me                  10

This vast

World belongs to thee

Surely there will be a

Place for me therein               11

Taking thy own decision

Of which place it be

Leading me accordingly

Thou livest with me                 12

 BT Song 1372

As I was busy with my regular morning work, I continued my dialogue (or argument) with the Lord. I told Him that I either listen to my own words or others’, but never truly listen to what He tries to say. I discuss, debate, and argue, trying to find a solution to my problem. When nothing works, I finally turn to Him, and He remains silent as usual. What is going on here? With this inspiration, I stopped all other work, wrote this song within a few minutes, and then continued with my tasks.

BT Song 1372 I will continue to do the same

 Simple English Version

I negotiate

With myself

And I listen to

Others’ words

But I refused

To come only to you

But I ask you

To help me too              1

Whatever might happen

Coming to you

Knowing your will

About it all

Which way

You will lead

Help me to

Walk in it, please           2

[The Lord said:]

‘Several times

You told me the same

You also wrote

Poems about it

Then forgetting

All of them

Again you

Go your own way                    3

I became more

Tired than you

I wore out

By carrying you

I am the only

One to you

But there are several

Like you to me               4

But none of them

Are like you

They never give

Trouble like you

They will listen

If I say

If I say no

They will agree              5

You became like the snake

Around the feet

Unable to kill

Or to chase away

Why do you come

Around me

Again and again

However much I tell’               6

[my response]

Why do you refuse

To listen?

I know

Well before

That you will

Talk like this

But who is

Responsible for this                7

Better you give

An answer to this

Give me the answer

Which is acceptable to me

Otherwise, I will

Do the same again

There is an answer

That is agreeable to both of us                 8

If you give that

Then I will thank you

For this solution

That works for both

Help me to find

This way that’s best

So we both

Can have our rest                   9

BT Song 1372 I will continue to do the same

 Classical English Version

I negotiate

With myself,

And hearken unto

Others’ words,

Yet I refused

To come solely to thee,

Yet I entreat thee

To aid me too.               1

Whatever may come to pass,

I come unto thee,

To know thy will

Concerning all,

Which path thou

Wouldst lead,

Aid me to

Walk therein, I pray.               2

[The Lord said:]

‘Many times,

Thou hast said the same,

Thou hast also penned

Verses of it,

Then forgetting

All thereof,

Again thou

Goest thine own way.             3

I grew more

Weary than thee,

I am worn

By bearing thee,

I am the sole

One to thee,

Yet many are there

Like thee to me.             4

Yet none of them

Are like unto thee,

They never give

Trouble as thou dost,

They will hearken

If I say,

If I refuse

They will agree.             5

Thou hast become like the serpent

About my feet,

Unable to slay

Or to chase away,

Why dost thou come

About me

Again and again,

However much I entreat?’                6

[My response:]

Why dost thou

Refuse to hearken?

I knew

Long before

That thou wouldst

Speak thus,

Yet who is

Responsible for this?              7

‘Tis better thou give

An answer to this,

Give me the answer

Acceptable to me,

Otherwise, I shall

Do the same again,

There is an answer

That pleaseth us both.            8

If thou givest that,

Then shall I thank thee,

For this solution

That befits us both,

Aid me to find

This best path,

So that we both

May find our rest.                    9

 BT Song 1373

I write my poems using a pencil on old papers, and later I type them on the computer. At that time, recalling the context, I write comments for each song. This afternoon, unable to sleep due to numerous disturbances in my mind, I got up and began to type the songs I wrote on the 15th. While typing the comments at the end, I couldn’t control my emotions and began to cry, stopping my typing. Leaning on the table with many tears, I felt completely drained both physically and mentally. I asked the Lord, “Why are you persecuting me like this? Won’t you give a clear solution to my problem? I am unable to make a clear decision. Considering the needs of my mother and me, I am not sure what to do. Unless you give a clear answer, I cannot live in peace.”

Completely breaking down, I sobbed silently. Unable to type further, I closed the computer and sat calmly, but the melancholic mood persisted. To avoid it, I got up, prepared tiffin for my mother, had my coffee, and sat in front of the TV to watch a classic music program. I noticed that my mother wasn’t feeling well either. For the past week, after my sister’s visit, she has been lamenting daily, thinking about moving to Chennai. She has repeatedly told me that I am torturing her by moving her from place to place. Despite her initial resistance, she finally accepted my decision to stay at the ashram and feels settled here. But now, with new challenges arising, she feels distressed about possibly moving again.

Unable to sit still, she went to lie down. I lost interest in watching TV and turned it off.

Several things happened afterward, which I cannot share. Eventually, I surrendered completely to God, finding some peace in the knowledge that “everything works for good for those who love the Lord.”

The following narrative was not posted initially, though I wrote it. Later, I developed heart problems and had a pacemaker installed. My brother became estranged from us again and is now in poor health, unable to care for our mother. The only viable option is to move to Chennai, where my sister can take care of her. While old age homes are an option, they either lack adequate facilities or are too expensive. Thus, I decided to follow my sister’s decision.

Umapathy visited us with his sister, brother-in-law, and nephew. His sister spoke with my mother, who poured her heart out, lamenting our situation. As I was busy preparing tea and conversing with Umapathy and the others, I missed most of their discussion. The topic of moving to Chennai came up, and Dinesh, Umapathy’s nephew, suggested arranging someone to help take care of my mother so she could stay here. We discussed various possibilities. I mentioned that my brother and his wife were coming the next day and would stay for two months, and I would make a decision afterward. Umapathy agreed and promised to help.

Before leaving, Dinesh asked if there was anything I needed from Bangalore, as he lives there. I told him I didn’t know when he would visit next, and he replied, “I will inform my uncle (Umapathy) of my visit date. I don’t want to miss any opportunity to help someone like you, who cares for his mother so devotedly.” Umapathy mentioned that when he talks about me, he always highlights how well I care for my mother. A neighbor also commented that when people in the village talk about me, they only mention my care and seva for my mother. Umapathy asked if there was anything he could bring from Thally, like books from the library. I requested a few things.

My stay at the ashram is meaningful only if my mother continues to stay here with me. If she moves, this place and my life may lose their meaning.

After they left, I went for a walk. Suddenly, a clarity came over me. God had sent these angels at the right time to answer my cries. A significant burden was lifted. If I stay here, God will provide help through known and unknown people at the right time, allowing me to not just survive but enjoy my time here. Another resident, Kishore Singh from Rajasthan, often visits and offers his assistance. So, why should I seek artificial solutions for future problems that might not arise?

I decided to stay here as long as possible and not move to Chennai or elsewhere. If I can’t manage alone, I will move to an old age home with my mother and then decide my future according to God’s guidance. There are many such homes in Tamil Nadu where I don’t need a large investment for accommodation. They charge monthly and allow flexibility. Though they might be a bit expensive, shifting to a care home is easier than renting a house, and I trust God will provide the necessary funds in time.

This decision brought me immense peace. After dinner, I shared it with my mother, who was also happy and agreed to stay as long as possible without moving to Chennai. However, she still has Mathigiri in mind. I requested my mother not to discuss this with my brother or sister and let things develop after my brother’s visit tomorrow.

After dinner, I sat silently, and as inspiration came, I wrote this song, accepting His will for my life and His decision to guide me accordingly.

BT Song 1373: You Gave a Clear Verdict

Simple English Version

1. You gave a clear verdict

And showed the way to redeem me.

This is the life for me, you decided,

And you gave peace within me.

2. There is no place for answerless questions with you.

You never refused to give an answer.

Unless I have the maturity to accept it,

There is no answer with you.

3. This remains your permanent answer.

   I clearly understood it.

   But you also know well

   The desire within me.

4. I thought only of what was good for me,

But you thought of what was good for all.

You protected me from my desires

That would oppose your divine will.

5. As I live only to worship you,

I have no right to go against your will.

As long as you are there, whatever may come,

I never lived opposing your will.

6. If I come seeking a solution,

You will give a clear solution.

When I accept and live accordingly,

You will pour down your grace more and more.

7. I get drenched again in that rain.

Oh my Lord, again I rise in spirit.

   I overcame the world,

   As you rose to victory.

BT Song 1373: You Gave a Clear Verdict

Classical English Version

1. Thou gavest a clear verdict

And showest the way to redeem me.

This is the life for me, thou didst decree,

And thou gavest peace within me.

2. There is no place for answerless questions with thee.

Thou never refusest to provide an answer.

Unless I have the maturity to accept it,

There is no answer with thee.

3. This remains thy permanent answer.

   I understood it clearly.

   But thou also knowest well

   The desire within me.

4. I pondered solely what was good for me,

But thou considered what was good for all.

Thou protected me from my desires

That would contravene thy divine will.

5. As I live solely to worship thee,

I have no right to go against thy will.

As long as thou art present, whatever may come,

I have never lived opposing thy will.

6. If I seek a solution,

Thou shalt provide a clear resolution.

When I accept and live accordingly,

Thou wilt pour down thy grace more abundantly.

7. I am drenched anew in that rain.

Oh my Lord, again I rise in spirit.

   I overcame the world,

As thou didst rise to victory.

 BT Song 1374

When I sat silently for prayer and meditation after my regular reading in the Muktiveda, I was not in the mood to meditate on anything. I sat quietly, reflecting on the events of the morning and afternoon. As usual, my rational mind refused to accept it. This being my reality, others wouldn’t understand what happened to me this morning. To many, it might seem like just another psychological problem or emotional imagination. However, my heart found tremendous peace. I experienced the real comfort of the Lord through His actions, by sending strangers. Though they were not the solution and could not provide one, God gave His direction and guidance through them. Despite similar experiences in the past, each occurrence feels completely new and fresh. Unable to pray, I sat silently and, as inspiration came, I wrote this song.

BT Song 1374  I Received More

Simple English Version:

1.

You gave me comfort

And encouragement too,

Guarding me always,

With protection from you.

2.

You became my refuge,

My safe place to be,

And you made me born again,

A new life set free.

3.

You never come directly,

To help in my need,

You never act

As per my wish or deed.

4.

But you send angels,

To accomplish your plan,

Fulfilling my needs,

With your divine hand.

5.

Unless one has experienced,

Who else could understand,

All these divine plays,

That you command?

6.

To others, it seems

Like fiction, a mere tale,

Even if they see

With their eyes, they fail.

7.

Unless one experiences,

They can’t comprehend,

The divine to our mind,

Cannot fully extend.

8.

No language to tell,

The peace that comes after,

This deep understanding,

Brings joy and laughter.

9.

Though it happened many times,

In the past and before,

Each time it feels

Like something new to explore.

10.

Once we understand,

And walk in his way,

His grace will be

More and more each day.

11.

I received that grace,

With understanding clear,

Experiencing his love,

That always draws near.

12.

I will thank God,

For blessings received,

Nurturing them always,

In life, I’ll believe.

Gurukulam, 17-4-2022, 11.30 p.m.

BT Song 1374  I Received More

Classical English Version:

1.

Comfort and solace you bestowed,

Encouragement to me,

Guarding me with protection,

In your care, I am free.

2.

Thou became my refuge,

A sanctuary divine,

And thou madest me reborn,

A new life intertwine.

3.

Never dost thou come directly,

To aid in my distress,

Nor dost thou act according,

To my wish or request.

4.

Yet thou sendest angels,

To accomplish thy plan,

Fulfilling all my needs,

With thy divine hand.

5.

Who else but those who’ve experienced,

Can understand thy plays?

These divine performances,

Manifest in mysterious ways.

6.

To others, it seems mere fiction,

A tale not understood,

Even if they witness it,

With their eyes, it’s just as good.

7.

Unless one hath experienced,

They cannot comprehend,

Thy divine essence,

To the mind cannot extend.

8.

No language can express,

The peace that doth follow,

This deep understanding,

Fills with joy, not hollow.

9.

Though it hath happened oft,

In times now gone and past,

Each time it doth remain,

A new wonder, to the last.

10.

Once we understand,

And walk in thy grace,

Thy blessings are abundant,

In every step, we trace.

11.

I received thy grace,

With clarity and cheer,

Experiencing thy love,

Ever present, ever near.

12.

I shall thank thee, O Lord,

For the blessings bestowed,

Nurturing them always,

In life’s continuous road.

 BT Song 1375

Once a devotee completely surrenders her entire being to the Lord, her whole life becomes intertwined with His. This total surrender means that her life is not only controlled by the Lord but also merges with Him. In this deep connection, the distinction between who is living in whom dissolves entirely.
