BT Songs 1381 to 1385

 BT Song 1381

We reap what we sow. This is not merely karma theory but natural logic. Every action has its own equal and opposite reaction. When we act or speak hastily, we must bear the consequences. Justifying our hastiness is futile. However, a devotee, confessing their mistakes, seeks God’s grace to endure the pain of the consequences. As someone wisely said, we have the right to choose our actions, but not the consequences; they are not in our hands.

BT Song 1381: I Sought Your Mercy

 Simple English Version

Life rises and falls

As time goes on

Highs and lows

Are part of fate

Will I think this way

Or say that

It is all your play

And nothing more?

Not thinking

About the result

With much anger

And haste

Doing things quickly

And blaming others

Is not right

Or fair

I should reap

What I have sown

And accept

The results

This is

Nature’s law

I should accept

The outcomes

After building

Something for days

With much effort

If in one day

Anger blinds me

Is it right

To smash

Everything down?

I won’t blame fate

I won’t accuse

Even time itself

For my actions

I will accept

Whatever comes

As the result

Of my deeds

Then coming

To you

Feeling sorry

For what I did

Whatever punishment

You might give

I will take

Silently

Then seeking

Your mercy

To bear the pain

Of my punishment

I will ask

For the strength

That you give

One more time

Gurukulam, 28-4-2022, 2.35 p.m.

BT Song 1381: I Sought Your Mercy

 Classical English Version

Life’s rise and fall

Are marks of time’s own flight

Highs and lows

Are the work of fate’s design

Shall I ponder thus

Or declare it thus

That all is but

Thy divine play?

Reckless in thought,

And rash in anger,

Unmindful of consequences,

Is such a wayward path.

Quickly hastening

And blaming others,

Is it just

Or is it fair?

What I have sown,

That shall I reap,

And with grace,

The outcome shall I accept.

For such is nature’s law,

Immutable and true,

I shall embrace

What results from my deeds.

After days of toil,

And earnest effort,

If in a day,

Anger blinds my sight,

Is it righteous

To shatter all

That I have wrought

In blind fury’s grip?

Blame not shall I

The fate’s decree,

Nor shall I accuse

Time’s relentless march.

With acceptance,

Shall I meet

Whatever be

The fruits of my actions.

And then to thee,

In remorse I come,

Regretful of

My errant ways.

Whate’er the punishment,

Thou deign to give,

With silence and strength

Shall I receive.

Then seeking

Thy mercy,

To bear the pain

Of my due chastisement,

I shall implore

For the strength

Thou dost bestow,

Once more, O Lord.

Gurukulam, 28-4-2022, 2.35 p.m.

 BT Song 1382

This is another song in the mood of viraha-bhava (the mood of separation). There is no specific reason why I wrote this song or others like it; they simply express my devotion in various forms. In this song, as the lover suffers more than the beloved due to separation, she urges the Lord to come, considering His own well-being. In this kind of viraha-bhakti (devotional love in separation), the longing and plea of the devotee transcend rational thinking.

BT Song 1382: To Rejoice in Bhakti

 Simple English Version

There is nothing new

For me to share

Yet it’s not good

To keep it inside

Though I get tired

Telling this often

You never tire

Of hearing it again

Once we are

Bound by love

There are a million things

For us to discuss

Love will grow

As we repeat our talks

And thinking of the past

Brings us joy

Only those who

Know the greatness

Of our bond

Will understand

Who else can speak

Of this but me

Who has already

Mingled with you

Drowning in sorrow

Thinking of the days

That have passed

Brings me pain

Waiting for you

With the fever

Of love

Is all I can do

How can I explain

The heat of my heart

Which burns hotter

Than any fire

It could even

Burn down fire

How can I speak

Of my condition

If you refuse

To show me pity

After hearing all this

I will die slowly

Then worrying

About your state

After I’m gone

I tell you this now

To save our love

And to live

Come quickly

To be with me

I seek this boon

From you, to rejoice

In bhakti

By being together

Gurukulam, 30-4-2022, 11.00 p.m.

BT Song 1382: To Rejoice in Bhakti

 Classical English Version

There is naught new

For me to impart

Yet it is not well

To withhold such a part

Though I may weary

In oft telling this tale

Thou dost not tire

Of hearing it again

When bound by love’s

Tender embrace

A million themes arise

For our discourse

In the repeating

Love doth flourish

And recalling the past

Brings joyous relish

Only those who

Have felt the grandeur

Of our bond’s depths

Can truly comprehend

Who but I

Can speak of this

Who has already

Merged with thee

Drowning in sorrow

Reflecting on days

Gone by in the past

Causes me great pain

Waiting for thee

In the fever of love

Is my constant state

And nothing more

How can I describe

The fire within

Which burns hotter

Than any flame

It would consume

Even the fiercest blaze

How can I utter

My plight so dire

If thou dost not

Show me mercy

Despite all this

I shall slowly perish

Then, worrying

For thy state

After my demise

I forewarn thee now

To preserve our love

And live in joy

Hasten to me

And unite with me

This boon I seek

From thee, to rejoice

In bhakti

Through our union

Gurukulam, 30-4-2022, 11.00 p.m.

 BT Song 1383

Another song in viraha-bhakti where the devotee warns the Lord that unless He comes quickly to be with her, her sulking will continue.

BT Song 1383: Sulking Will Continue

 Simple English Version

Gone are the days

When you came looking for me

Now, even if I seek you

I am a stranger to you

You won’t give a reason

You won’t think of my love

Even if I cry bitterly

Your heart won’t melt

Though I’ve thought many times

And reflected on my actions

Your anger has no reason

And my pain never leaves

What is on your mind?

Why are you upset with me?

What reason will you give

For often being like this?

Did I ever hurt your heart?

Did I ever find fault in your love?

Did I ever delay in serving you?

Did I ever forget your holy feet?

I have thousands of questions

And you have answers for them

But there is no need for them

So, I have nothing more to say

Keeping eternal love in your heart

Come seeking me again

Hug me to soothe my passion

And give me comfort

Till then, my sulking will continue

And you know its result

End my sulking and grow our bond

You alone must protect our love

Gurukulam, 1-5-2022, 11.30 p.m.

BT Song 1383: Sulking Will Continue

 Classical English Version

Gone are the days

When thou soughtest me

Now, even if I seek thee

I am but a stranger to thee

Thou givest no reason

Nor thinkest of my love

Even if I weep bitterly

Thy heart remains unmoved

Though I ponder oft

And reflect on my deeds

Thy anger lacks reason

And my anguish endures

What thoughts dost thou hold?

Why art thou vexed with me?

What reason wilt thou offer

For such frequent ire?

Did I ever wound thy heart?

Did I ever find fault in thy love?

Did I ever delay in my service?

Did I ever forget thy sacred feet?

I have countless queries

And thou hast answers

But they are needless

So, I speak no more

With eternal love in thy heart

Seek me once again

Embrace me to quell my fervor

And grant me solace

Till then, my sulking shall persist

And thou knowest its consequence

Dispel my sulking and deepen our bond

Thou alone must safeguard our love

Gurukulam, 1-5-2022, 11.30 p.m.

 BT Song 1384

The way both lover and beloved tease each other is part of viraha-bhakti. However, I added a twist by stating that I came to Him as I already belong to Him.

BT Song 1384: I Touch Because of My Right

 Simple English Version

I saw your mischievous smile

And I fell in love with you

You came to me smiling gently

And tried to touch me

I told you to stand away

And asked, “Is it right to touch me?”

I am an innocent girl

Who knows no guile or mischief

Immediately you laughed

And said this is just a play

And asked, “Who first came

And tried to hug?”

“I came because you called me

And gave myself for you to hug

Because of that right I touched you

Then I forgot everything else

I remained innocent

And you came to dominate me

You know what happened then

Better tell me why

Since I was born just for you

You told me not to stay alone

And you touched me to make me yours

As you have that right

Still, as shyness held me back

And fear added to it

Though I asked you to stay away

I burned inside with passion

But, oh my Lord, I forgot myself

In that smile of yours

Coming on my own and giving myself to you

I became your slave

Gurukulam, 10-5-2022, 11.30 p.m.

BT Song 1384: I Touch Because of My Right

 Classical English Version

I beheld thy mischievous smile

And I fell in love with thee

Thou camest to me with gentle mirth

And sought to touch me

I bade thee stand away

And asked, “Is it right to touch me?”

An innocent maid am I

Unknowing of guile or mischief

Straightway thou laughed

And said this is but a play

And asked, “Who first did come

And sought to embrace?”

“I came at thy summons

And gave myself for thee to hold

By that right I touched thee

Then forgot all else

I remained innocent

And thou camest to lord over me

Thou knowest what followed

Better tell me the cause

Since I was born for thee alone

Thou toldest me not to be alone

And touched me to make me thine

As thou hast that right

Yet, as shyness did restrain me

And fear did join with it

Though I asked thee to stay away

Within, I burned with passion

But, oh my Lord, I forgot myself

In that smile of thine

Coming on my own and yielding

I became thy slave

Gurukulam, 10-5-2022, 11.30 p.m.

 BT Song 1385

Though our mind never remains stable and often wanders, this wandering is also part of God’s way to understand my nature. By controlling my wandering mind, I often turn to the Lord to worship Him.

 Simple English Version

BT Song 1385: I Worship Only You

Living like this

My life should end

I should always

Think about you

Let the past

Remain in the past

Let what is happening

Remain good for me

I have my own heart

And you know that well

You have a place in it

You know that too

Then many thoughts

Come in between

Why separate me

From you, tell me this

I tried to

Remember you alone by

Standing, sitting,

Walking, or lying

Whatever I do

Amidst all these

I tried to remember

You often

But as the mind

Gets frustrated

I forgot to

Remember you

Is this the nature of the mind

Or is it the shortcoming of my intellect

Or is it your own act

Or is this the way the world works

I am troubled

Not understanding this

So I came

Again unto you

Let the mind and intellect

Do as they do

Let the world have

Its own practice

It is enough for me

If it remains as your act

You will be there

In that too

As this thought

Gave comfort

Turning my thoughts

Again unto you

Making mind and intellect

Remain under your control

Oh my King

Again I worship you

Gurukulam, 15-5-2020, 5.00 a.m.

BT Song 1385: I Worship Only You

 Classical English Version

Living thus,

My life should end

Ever should I

Think upon thee

Let the past

Remain in the past

Let what transpires

Remain for my good

I have my heart,

And thou knowest well

A place therein

Thou dost occupy

Yet many thoughts

Come between us

Why dost thou part me

From thee, say why

I strove to

Remember thee alone

Standing, sitting,

Walking, or lying

Whatever I do

In all my tasks

I endeavored to

Remember thee oft

But as the mind

Grew weary and tired

I forgot to

Think upon thee

Is this the nature of the mind,

Or a fault of my reason?

Or is it thy doing,

Or the world’s way?

I am troubled,

Understanding not,

So I came

Again unto thee

Let the mind and reason

Do as they will

Let the world follow

Its own customs

It is enough for me

If all be thy doing

Thou shalt be there

Even in that

This thought alone

Brings comfort to me

Turning my thoughts

Again unto thee

Binding mind and reason

To thy will

O my Sovereign,

Again I worship thee

Gurukulam, 15-5-2020, 5.00 a.m.

 BT Song 1381 இரக்கத்தை நாடினேன்

வாழ்வும் தாழ்வும்

காலத்தின் கோலம்

வீழ்வும் உயர்வும்

விதியின் செயலாம்      1

என்று நானும்

எண்ணிடுவேனோ

அல்லது உனது

லீலை என்பேனோ       2

ஆத்திரம் அவசரம்

கொண்டு நானும்

விளைவை சற்றும்

எண்ணிப் பாராமல்       3

எடுத்தேன் கவிழ்த்தேன்

என்றே செய்து

பழியை பிறர்மேல்

போடுதல் சரியா         4

விதைத்ததைத்தானே

அறுக்க வேண்டும்

விளைவின் பயனை

ஏற்க வேண்டும்          5

இயற்கையின் நீதி

எதுவென அறிந்து

செயலில் பலனை

ஏற்க வேண்டும்          6

பலநாள் முயன்று

பாடுகள் பட்டு

செய்யும் எந்த

செயலை ஒருநாள்       7

அறிவை ஆத்திரம்

எளிதாய் மறைக்க

அடித்து நொறுக்குதல்

எளிதாம் எவர்க்கும்      8

விதியின் மீதும்

பழியும் போடேன்

காலத்தை நானும்

குறையும் சொல்லேன்          9

எனது செயலுக்கு

வந்திடும் விளைவு

எதுவானாலும்

ஏற்றுக் கொள்வேன்      10

அதன்பின் உன்னிடம்

ஐயனே வந்து

செய்த செயலுக்காய்

என்னை நொந்து         11

எவ்வித தண்டனை

நீயும் தந்தால்

அமைதியாய் அதனை

நானும் ஏற்பேன்         12

அதன்பின் உனது

இரக்கத்தை நாடி

தண்டனை தந்திடும்

வலியைத் தாங்க        13

வழக்கம் போல

நீயும் அருளும்

வலிமை அதனை

மீண்டும் கேட்பேன்       14

குருகுலம், 28-4-2022, மதியம், 2.35

 BT Song 1382 பக்தியில் திளைக்க

சொல்லப் புதிதாக

ஏதும் இல்லை

சொல்லாமல் இருப்பது

நல்லது இல்லை         1

சொல்லும் எனக்கு

அலுப்பு வந்தாலும்

கேட்கும் உனக்கு

சலிப்பு வராது           2

காதலின் வசப்பட்டு

கட்டுண்ட பின்னே

பேசிட்ட ஆயிரம்

நமக்கு உண்டு           3

சொன்னதைச் சொல்ல

காதலும் பெருகும்

சென்றதை எண்ண

மகிழ்ச்சி உண்டாகும்           4

உறவின் உன்னதம்

புரிந்தோர் மட்டும்

உணர்வின் இந்த

சங்கமம் அறிவார்        5

உன்னுடன் ஒன்றி

இரண்டறக் கலந்த

என்னை அன்றி

யாரிதைச் சொல்வார்           6

சென்ற அந்த

நாட்களை எண்ணி

சோகத்தில் மூழ்கி

நானும் கிடக்க           7

மேனியை எரிக்கும்

தாபத்தால் தவித்து

வாடி நானும்

காத்து இருக்க           8

தீயினும் வெம்மை

கொண்டு தகிக்கும்

தாபத்தை நானும்

எவ்விதம் சொல்ல       9

நெருப்பும் பொசுங்கும்

நானும் தொட்டிட

வேறெந்த விதத்தில்

என்னிலை சொல்ல      10

இத்தனை சொல்லியும்

இரங்கிட மறுத்தால்

ஏந்திழை மடிவேன்

மெல்ல மெல்ல          11

அதன்பின் உனது

நிலையை எண்ணி

கலங்கி முன்பே

இதையும் சொன்னேன்          12

காதலைக் காத்து

மீண்டும் வாழ

விரைந்து வந்து

சேர்ந்திடச் சொன்னேன்         13

பக்தியில் திளைத்து

உன்னுடன் இணைந்து

வாழ வரமேத்

தந்திடச் சொன்னேன்           14

30-4-2022, குருகுலம், 11.00

 BT Song 1383
