BT Songs 1396 to 1400

 BT Song 1396

Though we are not separated from the world, to be in the Lord, we must keep away from the world that tries to entice and trap us. But a bhakta has the presence and grace of God to safeguard them from such enticement and help them abide in Him.

BT Song 1396: I Will Live in You

 Simple English Version

One way is good,

This is your grace,

And this too,

Is your grace.  1

Slowly, the world,

Should disappear for me,

And one day,

Completely vanish.  2

It will try,

To keep us in it,

And will do,

All kinds of things.  3

It will make us stumble,

And believe,

How many good things,

Are there for us.  4

Many things that,

Appear as good,

Need not be,

Good for sure.  5

Many things we do,

Thinking they’re useful,

Won’t be,

That useful.  6

Nothing will come,

From you,

That separates,

You and me.  7

You made me,

Live in this world,

Providing everything,

For me to live.  8

But when I sought,

More and more,

Longing for desires,

You left me.  9

Separated from you,

And losing your bond,

All I get,

Becomes a snare.  10

Trapped in that net,

And unable,

To find any,

Escape.  11

When I began to cry,

Looking to you,

You came quickly,

Redeeming me.  12

Showing the true,

Nature of the world,

You bestowed grace,

For me to live in you.  13

Abiding in,

Your grace,

I will live in you,

Renouncing the world.  14

BT Song 1396: I Will Live in Thee

 Classical English Version

One way is good,

This is thy grace,

And this too,

Is thy grace.  1

Slowly, the world,

Should fade from me,

And one day,

Vanish entirely.  2

It will strive,

To hold us fast,

And will exert,

All manner of efforts.  3

It will cause us to stumble,

And to believe,

How many good things,

Are there for us.  4

Many things that seem,

To be good,

Need not be,

Good indeed.  5

Many things we do,

Thinking them useful,

Are not,

So useful.  6

Nothing shall come,

From thee,

That shall sever,

Thee and me.  7

Thou madest me,

To live in this world,

Providing all,

For my life.  8

But when I sought,

More and more,

Longing for desires,

Thou left me.  9

Separated from thee,

And losing thy bond,

All I obtain,

Becomes a snare.  10

Trapped in that net,

And unable,

To find any,

Escape.  11

When I began to cry,

Looking to thee,

Thou camest swiftly,

Redeeming me.  12

Showing the true,

Nature of the world,

Thou bestowed grace,

For me to live in thee.  13

Abiding in,

Thy grace,

I will live in thee,

Renouncing the world.  14

 BT Song 1397

Of course, God won’t take back the blessings He bestowed on us. We lose them because of our own mistakes. However, a bhakta can even demand some kind of protection from God by attributing their mistakes to Him, as if He is taking back the blessings He bestowed. I do the same in this song, projecting my anxiety onto the Lord and requesting Him not to take back the blessings He bestowed.

BT Song 1397: I Will Stop You

 Simple English Version

All that I have lost,

You should give back,

And if I refuse to lose,

You should understand.  1

You don’t have,

The right to ask back,

All that you have,

Given as a boon.  2

It is not fair,

To refuse to give,

More of your grace,

To keep blessings in my life.  3

I never asked you,

For property and wealth,

Or name and fame,

In my life.  4

I only sought,

A life to renounce the world,

And to live,

Abiding in you.  5

Along with that,

To sing more songs,

Thinking about,

Your grace.  6

I sought a life,

Made by devotion,

To worship,

At your feet.  7

Even if I,

Grow old,

I asked for,

A young heart.  8

Whatever dryness,

Might come in my life,

I asked your living water,

For my soul to flourish.  9

Above all else,

I asked for your relationship,

That won’t be,

Separated from me.  10

After giving all these,

And if you try to take back,

I will question you,

By stopping you.  11

I will refuse to,

Give back,

What already,

Belongs to me.  12

You have become,

My own,

And yet somehow,

You deny this.  13

You gave up your right,

Over me after,

Redeeming me,

By giving yourself.  14

Remembering that alone,

Forget completely,

To ask back,

All that you gave.  15

BT Song 1397: I Will Hinder Thee

 Classical English Version

All that I have lost,

Thou shouldst restore,

And if I refuse to lose,

Thou shouldst comprehend.  1

Thou hast no right,

To reclaim,

All that thou hast,

Bestowed as a boon.  2

It is not just,

To withhold,

More of thy grace,

To sustain blessings in my life.  3

I never asked thee,

For wealth and property,

Or name and fame,

In my life.  4

I only sought,

A life to renounce the world,

And to live,

Abiding in thee.  5

In addition to that,

To sing more songs,

Reflecting upon,

Thy grace.  6

I sought a life,

Fashioned by devotion,

To worship,

At thy feet.  7

Though I,

Grow old,

I asked for,

A youthful heart.  8

Whatever dryness,

Might come in my life,

I asked thy living water,

For my soul to flourish.  9

Above all,

I asked for thy bond,

That shall not be,

Separated from me.  10

After bestowing all these,

And if thou dost attempt to reclaim,

I will challenge thee,

By hindering thee.  11

I will refuse to,

Return,

What already,

Belongs to me.  12

Thou hast become,

Mine own,

And yet somehow,

Thou dost deny this.  13

Thou gavest up thy right,

Over me after,

Redeeming me,

By giving thyself.  14

Remembering this alone,

Forget utterly,

To ask back,

All that thou bestowed.  15

 BT Song 1398

The reason I write poems and other brainstorms is that unless I put my thoughts into words, they continue to occupy my mind and never allow me to be quiet or even talk with the Lord. To tame my mind, I have to write down my thoughts, whether others read them or not. As I often say, I write to meet my own needs and post on my blog without expecting others to read or respond. Once I put my thoughts in writing, my mind allows me to engage in other activities. Whether this is some kind of mental condition or a common experience for a few others, I am not sure.

Sure, I’ll provide the simple English and classical English versions for BT Song 1398 while retaining the original structure of 14 stanzas, each with 4 lines.

BT Song 1398 – Put in Writing (Simple English)

1. To whom shall

I share

And to whom shall

I ask?

2. How can I explain

My thoughts unclear to me

How can I

Tell others clearly?

3. All I shared so far

Is very little

What I never shared

Is a lot.

4. There is no shortage

Of words to say

And no limit

For me to write.

5. However, they lack

The power to make

My thoughts

Complete.

6. So, I put

A limit to my words

And keep a fence

To my writings.

7. Talking with you

In silence

I poured my thoughts

To you.

8. Then I got

Clarity

How I am going to

Express it.

9. But there’s no need

For me to share

And others have no

Time to listen.

10. But I wrote them

Just for myself

And I told you

The reason for that.

11. Once I

Shared all

My inner thoughts

With you,

12. And put them

In writing

And after

Presenting them to you,

13. As my wavering thoughts

Calm down,

Then your words will

Reach my ears.

14. As I obey them

And act accordingly

Peace will come

To me every day.

Gurukulam, 7-7-2022, 6.00, p.m.

BT Song 1398 – Put in Writing (Classical English)

1. To whom shall I share

And to whom shall I ask?

2. How can I explain

My thoughts unclear to me,

How can I

Tell others clearly?

3. All I have shared so far

Is very little,

What I never shared

Is abundant.

4. There is no shortage

Of words to speak,

And no limit

For me to write.

5. Yet they lack

The power to render

My thoughts

Complete.

6. Hence, I place

A boundary on my words,

And a fence

Around my writings.

7. Conversing with thee

In silence,

I poured forth my thoughts

To thee.

8. Then I received

Clarity,

How I am to

Utter them.

9. But there is no need

For me to share,

And others have no

Time to listen.

10. Yet I have written them

For my sake alone,

And I told thee

The reason for that.

11. Once I have

Shared all

My innermost thoughts

With thee,

12. And penned them down,

Presenting them to thee,

13. As my wavering thoughts

Grow calm,

Then thine words shall

Reach mine ears.

14. As I obey

And act accordingly,

Peace shall come

To me each day.

 BT Song 1399

Renouncing is an art. Anything discarded out of frustration will come back manifold to control us. Realizing the legitimate material needs of the body and life, and accepting their demands with a proper understanding of renunciation, brings balance to life, allowing us to lead a calm and sober existence.

BT Song 1399 – Renunciation and Needs

simple English version

Keeping so many

Needs in life

And praying each day

For them

In this life

In which I act

Which one to renounce

Better you tell that to me

As long as

There is the body

There is no lack of

Need in life

Seeking them

Though I toil very much

Still all the

Needs are not fulfilled

Like a fool

Who tries to put down fire

By pouring

More oil on it

Once I began

To search for more

The need also will

Increase many fold

Fearing that

If I take

Any decision

To renounce

The very renunciation

Itself becoming a burden

Will further increase

Suffering in life

Accepting the

Needs in life

Understanding

Renunciation properly

Trying to keep

A balance between them

If one tries to live accordingly

The life will go smoothly

Clinging to one

If we give up another

The very life

Will be doomed

Gurukulam, 7-7-2022, 8.30 p.m.

BT Song 1399 – Renunciation and Needs

classical English version

Holding fast so many needs in life,

And daily prayers for desires rife,

In this existence where I act,

Which to renounce, thy guidance I lack.

As long as this body doth remain,

No dearth of needs shall life contain,

Seeking them with toil and strife,

Yet unfulfilled are needs of life.

Like a fool who quells not fire,

By pouring oil, it doth aspire,

Once more in search for what I yearn,

Needs grow greater with each turn.

Fearing then, if I decide,

To renounce and cast aside,

Renunciation becomes a weight,

Adding to suffering, sealing fate.

Accepting needs as life doth bestow,

Understanding renunciation’s flow,

Balancing ‘twixt both, life does strive,

Thus living smoothly, one shall thrive.

Clinging to one, another denied,

Life in its fullness will be tried,

To live this way, it shall be doomed,

In such a life, despair is groomed.

Gurukulam, 7-7-2022, 8.30 p.m.

 BT Song 1400

Like every family member, particularly parents and children, always feeling that proper justice is never done to them, a bhakta feels the same way. She will always think that God is showing partiality only to her, giving His blessings to others while putting her through trials, either as part of His divine lila or in the name of testing her. I am no exception, and I feel that He is doing the same to me.

BT Song 1400: Do Proper Justice

 Simple English Version

Your justice seems

Very fair to you,

But for me alone,

It remains in dispute.

Okay, let it be,

What else can be done?

There are difficulties

In being like God.

First, you should see

The common justice for all,

Then you should do

What I am asking.

If there’s any contradiction,

Who should give in first?

Even though common justice

Is the same for everyone,

There’s no justice

That never changes.

You have given in many times,

And I have never forgotten it.

When I ask you

To do the same again,

It’s not right for you

To remain stubborn.

Is this a dispute

With someone else

That I should

Give in a little?

Is this an easy matter

To resolve for those

Who don’t understand

The legal details?

Once it is clear that

Justice is yours,

Arguments are yours,

Judgment is yours too.

What’s the use of

All my counterarguments?

The final closing argument

Also belongs to you.

The judgment that

Follows will also be yours.

It’s better for you to

Keep this in mind.

I can present

My arguments

Only outside

The court.

If we negotiate

And reach a compromise,

That will be

Favorable to me.

If you make me

Contend in court,

Your judgment will

Turn against me.

Then, even if your justice

Seems very correct,

My justice will remain

A permanent dispute.

Is this dispute

Necessary for us?

Realizing this,

Do justice for me.

Gurukulam, 8-7-2022, 5.00 p.m.

BT Song 1400: Do Proper Justice

 Classical English Version

Thy justice seems

Most fair unto thee,

Yet justice for me alone

Remaineth in dispute.

So be it, if so,

What else is to be done?

There are trials and tribulations

In the role of the Divine.

First, thou shouldst behold

The common justice for all,

Then shouldst thou fulfill

What I am imploring.

If any discord arise

From this matter,

Who should first

Yield in the contention?

Though common justice

Is ever constant for all,

There is no justice

That never doth change.

Many times hast thou

Given way,

And I have not

Forgotten thy grace.

When I beseech thee

To grant the same once more,

It is unseemly for thee

To be steadfastly unyielding.

Is there a dispute

With another so that

I must

Make some concession?

Is this dispute

Of such easy resolution

For those who comprehend not

The nuances of the law?

Once it is made plain that

Justice is thine,

Arguments are thine,

And judgment is thine as well.

What profit is there

In all my counterarguments?

The final argument

Also doth belong to thee.

The judgment that

Shall follow also is thine.

It would be wise for thee

To remember this.

I may present

My arguments

Only outside

The court.

Should we but negotiate

And reach a compromise,

It would be

Favorable to me.

If thou causest me

To contend within the court,

Thy judgment shall

Turn against me.

Thus, while thy justice

Appears most just,

Mine own justice shall remain

A perpetual litigation.

Is this contention

Necessary for us?

Recognizing this,

Render justice unto me.

BT Song 1396 உன்னில் வாழ்வேன்

இதுவும் ஒருவிதம்

நல்லது என்பேன்

இதுவும் உனது

அருள்தான் என்றேன்  1

மெல்ல மெல்ல

மறந்திட வேண்டும்

உலகம் ஒருநாள்

மறைந்திட வேண்டும்  2

தன் வசமாக்கி

நம்மையும் வைக்க

தந்திரம் பலவும்

உலகும் செய்யும்  3

நல்லவை எத்தனை

உண்டெனச் சொல்லி

நம்ப வைத்து

நமையும் கவிழ்க்கும்  4

நல்லவையாக

தோன்றிடும் பலவும்

நன்மையாக நிச்சயம்

இருப்பதும் இல்லை  5

பயனுண்டு இதிலே

என்று எண்ணி

செய்திடும் பலவற்றில்

பயனெதும் இல்லை  6

உன்னையும் என்னையும்

பிரித்திடும் எதுவும்

உன்னிடமிருந்து என்றும்

வருவதும் இல்லை  7

உடலின் தேவைக்கு

உரியன தந்து

உலகினில் வாழ

வழிவகை செய்தாய்  8

ஆயினும் மனதின்

ஆசைக்கு இணங்கி

அதிகம் நாட

என்னையும் பிரிந்தாய்  9

உன்னைப் பிரிந்து

உறவை இழந்து

அடைந்த பலவும்

இடும்பாய் மாற  10

அந்த வலையில்

சிக்கிக் கொண்டு

மீண்டு வந்திட

வழியும் இன்றி  11

உன்னை நோக்கி

கதறி அழைக்க

விரைந்து வந்து

என்னை மீட்டு  12

உலகின் உண்மை

தன்மையைக் காட்டி

உன்னில் வாழ

அருளும் தந்தாய்  13

அந்த அருளில்

நிலைத்து நின்று

உலகைத் துறந்து

உன்னில் வாழ்வேன்  14

குருகுலம், 7-7-2022, இரவு 10.45

BT Song 1397 தடுத்துக் கேட்பேன்

இழந்ததை மீண்டும்

தந்திட வேண்டும்

இழந்திட மறுத்தால்

புரிந்திட வேண்டும்  1

வரமாய் நீயே

தந்த எதையும்

திரும்பக் கேட்கும்

உரிமை இல்லை  2

தந்ததைப் போற்றி

பேணி வளர்க்க

அருள்தர மறுப்பது

நியாயமே இல்லை  3

சொத்து சுகமும்

பெயரும் புகழும்

என்றும் உன்னை

கேட்டது இல்லை  4

உலகை நீங்கி

உன்னில் மறைந்து

வாழும் வாழ்க்கை

மட்டுமே கேட்டேன்  5

அத்துடன் உனது

அருளையும் எண்ணி

அனுதினம் பாடும்

வரமும் கேட்டேன்  6

பித்தாய் பக்தி

தலைக்கு ஏறி

பாதம் பணியும்

வாழ்வும் கேட்டேன்  7

மேனி ஒடுங்கி

முதுமை வந்தும்

மாறா இளமை

மனதில் கேட்டேன்  8

வாழ்வில் எந்த

வறட்சியும் வரினும்

ஆன்மா செழிக்க

நீரும் கேட்டேன்  9

அதற்கு மேலாய்

என்னைப் பிரியா

உனது உறவை

நாளும் கேட்டேன்  10

அனைத்தும் தந்து

மீண்டும் எடுக்க

முயற்சி செய்தால்

தடுத்துக் கேட்பேன்  11

எனக்குச் சொந்தம்

ஆன எதையும்

திரும்பக் கேட்டால்

தரவும் மறுப்பேன்  12

நீயே எனக்குச்

சொந்தம் ஆனாய்

அதனை நீயும்

ஏனோ மறந்தாய்  13

என்னை ஏற்று

உன்னைத் தந்து

உனது உரிமை

நீயும் துறந்தாய்  14

அதனை மட்டும்

நீயும் உணர்ந்து

திரும்பக் கேட்பதை

முற்றிலும் மறந்திடு  15

குருகுலம், 7-7-2022, இரவு 11.10

BT Song 1398
