BT Song 1401
The way the war in Ukraine has divided families, countries, and even ideologies at the cost of humanitarianism is the greatest tragedy of this century. Who is wrong and who is right is not the question here. Who is affected and how to end such an atrocity is the big question before humanity now. In the past, wars between two countries affected a limited number of people, but now it affects all of humanity as we live in a global village. The only remedy for this is to return to the root of our lives: showing love, living harmoniously with others, and allowing everyone to live by the golden rule: LIVE AND LET LIVE.
BT Song 1401 Humanitarianism
Simple English Version
Our hearts will be full
When we live
Showing love
And kindness to others
Seeking contention
And dividing ourselves
Will make life
Empty and meaningless
God created the world
And us,
He asked us to live
Together with love
But man divides and
Destroys others
Trying to
Rule over everyone
We should understand that
When we live
Sacrificing ourselves
We receive more
If we accumulate
More and more
We will lose everything
This we should realize
Even after seeing
The harmony in nature
And how they
Live together
It is a great tragedy
When humans alone
Stand divided
And alone
Humans do
What neither
God nor nature
Ever do
They destroy themselves
And nature
What will we gain?
This is unclear
Therefore,
Not allowing
Humanitarianism
To be destroyed
Showing love
And remaining kind
We should live
Together every day

BT Song 1401 Humanitarianism
Classical English Version
Our hearts shall be full
When we do live
Showing forth love
And grace unto others
Seeking for strife
And making division
Will render life
Empty and vain
God who created
The world and us
Commanded that we
Should live in love
Yet man doth divide
And destroys his kin
Seeking to
Rule over all
We must understand
That when we live
Sacrificing ourselves
We shall receive more
If we do gather
More and more
We shall lose all
This we must perceive
Even when seeing
Nature’s harmony
And how they do
Live together
‘Tis a great tragedy
When man alone
Doth stand divided
And solitary
Man doth do
What neither God
Nor nature e’er
Shall do
They destroy themselves
And nature too
What shall we gain?
This is not clear
Therefore, let us
Not allow
Humanitarianism
To be destroyed
Showing forth love
And abiding in grace
We must live
Together each day

BT Song 1402
Another song thanking and praising God for His relationship and for giving this life to sing and worship Him.
BT Song 1402 Rejoice Praising You
Simple English Version
It is not possible
For me to be alone
You are there
To give me company
This is enough
I told you
How am I going
To give thanks?
Offering only
My tears
Increasing the love
In my heart
Each second
Remembering your glory
I gave thanks
By worshiping your feet
Though there are
Not enough words to praise you
Though the situation is
Not conducive to praise
The praising heart
Remembering you only
Will rejoice in atman
By singing your praises
Giving thanks only when
Good things happen
And blaming when
Bad things happen
Though it is
Part of our nature
My heart would
Refuse to do that
Going beyond
Good and evil
Understanding that
This very life is yours
If there is any greater
Word than thanks
I will worship you
Only saying that
There is no need
For formality
To utter
The feeling of my heart
There is no need
For any other blessings
Other than your relationship
To show my love
Though there are
Friends and relatives
Though friends and
Others stand with me
Your company
Covers every other relationship
Your relationship alone
Will remain as my companion
Once you are with me
Giving company
As my heart rejoices
By singing your praises
Having a relationship with you
And celebrating your relationship
I will sing
More and more songs like this

BT Song 1403
This is a common struggle for everyone who tries to concentrate on their sadhana. This I have experienced and have seen in others’ lives too. Surprisingly, several people have already written about this. The following song by Pattinathar will endorse it. In a film song, Kannandasan wrote, “Keeping one eye here and another there is not the proper way to worship God [in the temple, அங்கொரு கண்ணும் இங்கொரு கண்ணும் ஆலய வழிபாடில்லை]. As I was reading Pattinathar’s song yesterday afternoon, I wrote this song sharing my own experience. But as usual, I dragged the Lord into this struggle and demanded Him to cooperate with me.
Hand doing one thing; eyes seeking one thing; mind thinking of something else; tongue telling a lie; the perishable body depending on something else, and as the ears long to listen to something else, how are you going to accept my puja, the one who removed all my karmas?—free translation by me, Pattinathar, Janakkovai, Chennai, Sri Senbaka publishers, (2005) second edition, 2010, song 4, Podu, page 135.
BT Song 1403 Do Your Part
Simple English Version
Hands doing one thing
Eyes seeking another
Ears listening to something
Mind thinking differently
With this wavering mind
Which never stays still
It is impossible to think only of you
This I know very well
But even this restless mind
Helps in one way
And I have also
Realized this
It helps me
Understand the pain
Of separation
From you
Whether I think of you continuously
Or only for a few seconds
There is no break in our relationship
I know that well
Wherever I go
My connection with you
Remains always
Never disconnects
Thousands of struggles
Are there
Every day
In this human life
Remembering you
Amidst them
Is indeed a great task
I say this for you to know
If you want me
To come without fail
At your feet
And sing your praises
Remove the restlessness
And control me
Make my organs
Remain under control
Without your help
I cannot
Worship you
It is almost impossible
It is good for both of us
If you do this
If you want
Devotion from me
You will see then
That the senses
Coordinating with the mind
Will worship you alone
Till that time
I will worship you
With this restless mind
Better you understand this

BT Song 1403 Do Thy Part
Classical English Version
Hands doing one task
Eyes seeking another
Ears listening to one thing
Mind thinking another
With this wavering mind
Which never remains still
‘Tis impossible to think only of thee
This I know well
But even this restless mind
Aids in one way
And I too
Have realized this
It helps me
To understand the pain
Of separation
From thee
Whether I think of thee constantly
Or but a few moments
There is no lack in our bond
I know this well
Wherever I go
My connection with thee
Remains ever
Undisturbed
Thousands of struggles
Abound each day
In this human life
Countless they are
Remembering thee
Amidst them all
Is indeed a great feat
I tell this for thee to know
If thou desirest me
To come unfailingly
To thy feet
And sing thy praises
Remove the restlessness
And master me
Make my organs
Obey thy command
Without thy aid
I cannot
Worship thee
‘Tis almost impossible
‘Tis good for both of us
If thou dost this
If thou desirest
Devotion from me
Thou shalt see then
That the senses
Coordinating with the mind
Will worship thee alone
Till that time
I shall worship thee
With this restless mind
Best thou understand this

BT Song 1404
Another tussle with the Lord. Sometimes I enjoy dragging the Lord into this kind of tussle as this is also part of the bhakti genre.
BT Song 1404 Better You Change
Simple English Version
Why are you
Doing this unnecessary thing?
Why have you become
Upset with me?
Even though I have
Been patient so far
Now you must
Listen to me.
Where has your
Long patience gone?
You’ve forgotten your
Love for me.
My mind has also become numb
From receiving regular beatings.
Therefore, your actions now
Have become very justifiable.
Don’t think that
There is no one
To plead
For my sake.
I don’t need
That kind of help.
It’s better if you
Don’t forget this.
When I explain
My reasons
You should
Just listen.
There’s no need
For others’ interference.
No one should come
Between us.
Whether we fight or reconcile
Let it be between us.
If others find out
About it,
They might spread
Unnecessary gossip
And rumors
Could spread quickly.
This struggle
Is nothing new for us
And it’s not going
To end with this.
As usual, you have
Your regular excuses
And I also have
Answers for that.
So, do not
Delay further.
Listen calmly
To what I say.
It’s better if you change
The situation
Where I give
Advice to you.
We are like twins
Born sticking together.
There is no way
To be separate.
If we both sit and talk
Some better solutions
Might arise.
This is also true.
If you remain stubborn
And refuse to listen
There is nothing
More for me to say.
Gurukulam, 15-07-2022, 5.00 p.m.
BT Song 1404 Better Thou Change
Classical English Version
Why dost thou
Engage in this needless task?
Why hast thou
Become vexed with me?
Though I have
Shown patience until now,
Thou must
Hark unto me.
Where hath thy
Enduring patience fled?
Thou hast forgotten thy
Affection for me.
My heart hath also grown numb
From the constant chastisements.
Thus, thy actions now
Have become quite justifiable.
Think not that
There is none
To plead
For my cause.
I require not
Such assistance.
Better if thou
Forget not this.
When I relate
My reasons
Thou shouldst
Only listen.
No need
For others’ meddling.
None should come
Between us.
Whether we quarrel or reconcile
Let it remain between us.
Should others learn
Of it,
They may spread
Unnecessary rumors
And idle talk
May swiftly ensue.
This strife
Is not new to us,
And it shall not
End with this.
As per custom, thou hast
Thy usual excuses,
And I too have
Rebuttals to that.
Therefore, delay not
Further.
Listen with calm
To my words.
Better thou change
The situation
Wherein I offer
Counsel unto thee.
We are as twins
Born conjoined.
There is no means
To part.
Should we both sit and converse,
Some better resolution
May emerge.
This is also true.
Shouldst thou remain obstinate
And refuse to heed,
There is naught
Left for me to say.

BT Song 1405
After reading the following thoughts by Tagore, I wrote this poem:
That we cannot absolutely possess the infinite being is not a mere intellectual proposition. It has to be experienced, and this experience is bliss. The bird, while taking its flight in the sky, experiences at every beat of its wings that the sky is boundless, that its wings can never carry it beyond. Therein lies its joy. In the cage, the sky is limited; it may be quite enough for all the purposes of the bird’s life, only it is not more than is necessary. The bird cannot rejoice within the limits of the necessary. It must feel that what it has is immeasurably more than it ever can want or comprehend, and then only can it be glad.
Thus, our soul must soar in the infinite, and she must feel every moment that in the sense of not being able to come to the end of her attainment is her supreme joy, her final freedom. (p.152)
Man is not complete; he is yet to be. In what he is, he is small, and if we could conceive him stopping there for eternity, we should have an idea of the most awful hell that man can imagine. In his to be, he is infinite; there is his heaven, his deliverance. He is occupied every moment with what he can get and have done with; his to be is hungering for something which is more than can be got, which he never can lose because he never has possessed.—Rabindranath Tagore, Sadhana: The Realisation of Life, Macmillan And Co;, London, Indian edition, 1930, pp. 152-153
BT Song 1405 Fullness
Simple English Version
One should understand that
Becoming complete
Is nearly
Impossible for anyone.
Also, one should
Understand that
Achieving completeness
Is also an impossible task.
To live safely,
A small cage
Is enough
For the bird.
To soar high,
By spreading its wings,
It needs
A wide sky.
Thinking that
What one has achieved is enough
And trying to find
Fullness only in that
Will lead to
Becoming like
A stagnant
Pool of water.
If the river
Roars and flows,
And finally
Mingles with the sea,
Though it may
Lose its individual nature,
The river will
Find fullness there.
If it remains stagnant
Instead,
One day
It will also dry up.
We should strive
Every day
To achieve that
Fullness within us.
Not allowing
Any stagnation to come,
We should
Continue to move forward.
In this life
That God has given,
If we forget to
Do that,
And cling
To this life,
Thinking that
It is enough,
Like the bird
That has lost
The wider world
To fly,
Living like a
Bird in a cage,
We too
Will perish in a cage.
Gurukulam, 15-07-2022, 5.45 p.m.
BT Song 1405 Fullness
Classical English Version
One should comprehend that
To attain completeness
Is nigh
Impossible for a mortal.
Furthermore, one should
Perceive that
Achieving full measure
Is also an unattainable feat.
To live securely,
A small cage
Sufficeth
For the bird.
Yet to ascend high,
By spreading its wings,
It requireth
A vast expanse of sky.
If one thinketh
That what hath been achieved is sufficient
And seeketh to find
Fulfillment solely therein,
It shall become
As a
Stagnant
Pool of water.
If the river,
Roaring and flowing,
Finally
Mingles with the sea,
Though it may
Lose its distinct nature,
The river shall
Find fulfillment there.
Should it remain stagnant
Instead,
One day
It shall also dry up.
We must endeavor
Daily
To attain that
Fullness within ourselves.
By not permitting
Any stagnation to set in,
We should
Perpetually advance.
In this life
Granted by God,
If we neglect
To do this,
And cling
To this existence,
Thinking that
It sufficeth,
Like the bird
That hath lost
The boundless world
In which to fly,
Living as a
Bird in a cage,
We too
Shall perish in our confinement.

BT Song 1401 –
